Bowsers design in this movie is absolutely incredible. It’s like a blend of N64 Bowser and Modern Bowser combined. This gotta be illuminations best looking movie by far.

Ever since Harvey Atkin voiced Bowesr in the classic Mario cartoons in the late 1980s to the early 1990s. Now Jack Black is voicing Bowser in this movie. I would say that both Harvey Atkin and Jack Black have the best Bowser voice ever.

Jack black can literally never disappoint on whoever he is playing. It’s like he brings new life to the character and so far I can tell his interpretation of bowser is gonna be a lot of fun.
@Ronald Nygma jack does different roles all the time. He just as a comedic twist. Bowser has been written to have a silly side as well many many times. Especially since bowser Jr.
his voice was almost unrecognizable until the Star Scene. Glad bowser is actually going to be menacing and not just a goofball.
But Chris Pratt did and I really like him. He's just not Mario and they should have left it to Charles Martinet

This looks LEGENDARY. The animation looks both realistic and cartoonish at the same time. It’s usually never done this perfectly, especially considering it’s from illumination.

2:40 That pause. You can practically see the gears turning in his head as Chris Pratt tries to remember what the enemies in the movie were called. This is a pre-recorded statement, the fact that he didn't retake it, edit it out or even take the time to think about what he was going to say ahead of time says a lot about how much respect Chris Pratt has for this project. Compare and contrast his segment with Jack Black's. I don't know if Jack is a gamer or a fan of the Mario franchise but even in a simple promo bit that he probably isn't being paid much for he brought his A game.
In the trailer Jack Black is doing a voice, he sounds like Bowser. Kevin Michael Richardson and Keegan-Michael Key as Kamek and Toad also sound like they are getting into the characters. Chris Pratt as Mario just sounds bored.

This might be controversial for me to say, but you're reading TOO much into two lines of dialogue and a pre-recorded video segment in which he's trying to be colorful and engaging, and failing.
Perhaps Martinet should've been mario and I agree that career voice actors should be casted over A-list stars. However, I think there's a fair chance that 90 minutes of Martinet speaking full sentences in that very exaggerated cartoon accent may prove unbearable for general audiences. Like with the cut "Starway to Heaven" scene from Almost Famous, what audiences claim they want doesn't always match with what they will actually like. There's a reason why since SM64, Martinet's lines are always very short utterances.
I think Chris Pratt is kinda a boring choice, but he did well in the Lego Movie, and I don't see why he wouldn't do well in this. Also, people are deaf if they don't hear a slight Brooklyn accent in the two short lines of dialogue we got here.
People on the internet want to complain for the sake of complaining.

I don't care what anyone says about the voice. The line "Mushroom Kingdom, here we come!" while he was hopping across the mushrooms to the Mushroom Kingdom is what set this trailer over the top for me and made squeal with pure, unadulterated euphoria! And the movie is my favorite film of all time now.
This is actually insane. Illumination has not done a movie this good looking before, and it shows that it's worth it for them to do so.

I love how Bowser is up on the front lines with his troops, it gives him the opportunity to really show how dominating and imposing he is. He is perfectly willing to get up in your face and show you who's boss. If nothing else, it makes his kingdom more believable -- he is a warrior king who fights side by side with his soldiers, and for that they respect him.

Bowser is one of those leaders whose minions actually respect him (but also fear him) and allows minions to leave if they so choose (i.e., Goomba Village).
Also I do hope that this movie is successful…because if so I would like to see some of the other Mario characters such as Daisy, Rosalina, Birdo, Yoshi, Toadette, The Koopalings, Wario, Waluigi, King Boo, Bowser Jr., I could go on and on!

With Miyamoto being involved in the production I’m not surprised it looks this good. The guy is a perfectionist. His experience in video game animation definitely translates well into the big screen. There’s no way he would let the smallest mustache wiggle go wrong in the movie about his biggest creation.
Some people in the comments saying that Mario's face is basically looks closer to Mr. EAD from F-ZERO and believe that this movie will turn completely awful because of that design.

I love how intimidating and badass bowser's entrance is, and him breathing fire to melt down the castle was so cool! It makes Bowser really seem like a threat and not just a joke character. I'm really hoping Nintendo will give us a new 2d Mario game to coincide with the film!

Jim Carrey did an excellent job playing Dr. Eggman in the first two Sonic films and I hope he'll return for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in 2024. Jack Black did incredibly will with Bowser's voice (this voice sounds better than in Super Mario Sunshine).

I still can't believe they made a Mario Movie. Even after it has happened and after I have seen it, I still can't believe it! This movie was beautiful, and everything was perfect, with the only flaw being that it needed a bit more of a story and character development but overall it was SUPER!

im seeing a lot of hidden details and it makes me super happy. i hope this movie not only has a good storyline, but also has some cool easter eggs, references and funny moments. when i heard illumination was picking it up, i got worried, but seeing how good the cinematics are thus far, as well as the choice of some of these actors, im excited to see it eventually come out! and even if it isn't a masterpiece, i'm still going to cherish it for the rest of my life.

Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan Michael Key as Toad, and even Richardson as Kamek did perfect IMMEDIATELY, going to take some time to get used to Chris Pratt's Mario, but it sounded good, and we even saw a glimpse of Luigi, and THE PENGUINS FROM 64 ARE IN A WAR AGAINST BOWSER?? This movie is looking amazing, can't wait to see it.

I’m curious if we could get Charles Manlet to do the voice for Mario if we got him the script, Cheers to Pratt for making the effort, they’ve made Mario somewhat easier to understand for the most part, plus younger fans might find Pratt to be easier to understand as well. Jack black was a perfect fit for bowser, can’t stop Jabinsky or our boy Jables

Remember that Nintendo defeated SEGA in the console industry and if this film fails then it would be the same but the opposite.

The animation looks incredible and Jack Black somehow does the PERFECT Bowser.
The moment I heard him speak I was like "yup. this is Bowser." I genuinely thought he wasn't gonna do that well, or just do his usual Jack Black "metal guy" Schtick, and while he still very much could, this has me excited.
Kamek was pretty good too, even if it was only one line. Still not too sure on Mario though…

The Bowser’s Castle part of the movie and Bowser’s design are like the best part of the trailer. Also, this movie looks way better than any of the other Illumination films.

Today I am speechless. Just returned from taking my 5 year old twins to see this; some 40+ years in the making. They loved it. Me, as an original Mario gamer (and Donkey Kong, at 7 years old)? I just had the wind knocked out of me, totally blown away! What the youngsters wont (& dont need to) realise is, we had to wait a very long time for this movie to be possible. Today the timing is perfect; Illumination not only bringing the worlds of Mario & Luigi, Boswer & Mushroom kingdom to life like a truely godly creation, but delivering a landmark animation that surpasses all before it. The plot is great, easter eggs & references keeping you hooked all the way, the detail is almost impossibly executed & the score / audio is 1st class. The animation itself flows perfectly, the pace holds your attention all the way through its 1:32 minutes run time. Some scenes in particular have left me trying to pick my jaw up off the floor, good example being the Princesses demo to Mario, of what he must master in order to save Luigi & the Mushroom kingdom. You really felt the height as she jumped from block to block with the sea far below; the sense of vertigo kicking I have only felt with VR, a real cinematic acheivement & no doubt a labour of love for all cast & crew. Jack Black's Bowser is ridiculously good! Sinister & hillarious is equal measure. All the cast lent great things to the characters, including Chris Pratt who I know many are critical over due to Mario's accent; for me it was no deal breaker, Mario came good. This is the greatest, most flawless & exciting game adaptation you will witness today, hopefully setting the bar for a new generation of stories waiting to be told that have not yet successfully been brought to life on the big screen. Miss at your peril. 10/10 & then some... ♥🍄🐲

It's not about the "game world" clashing with the "real world", this is already better than 90% of video game movies.
Taking what the cartoon did right and modernizing it, I like that approach.
From the looks of it, this may take from the mario show plot where he and his brother from Brooklyn went down a pipe and landed in the kingdom.

I literally groaned as soon as Mario appeared. It's not even bare minimum, there was no effort put into Mario's voice. I'm sure the move will still be great, but to make such an iconic voice so bland is a shame.

1:55 It is super fantastic that the great Koji Kondo participates in the soundtrack of the movie! But since both Donkey Kong and Cranky Kong will be showing up, It would be amazing to see a collaboration with David Wise (being the composer of the Donkey Kong Country games), being part of DK's identity!

If nothing else, the animation is above and beyond anything I would have expected coming out of an illumination film, but even far past expectations of other studios. Genuinely impressive and already regardless of plot and pacing the film's visuals are immaculate

It's super easy to tell it's jack black. But if you are comparing it to the phoned in joke of a job the allowed for mario, bowser is emmy award winning quality. lol. Aka, about as low of a bar as possible.

We can say all we want about the art direction, but the animation and lighting? That's some quality stuff right there.
Edit: Not saying that I personally dislike the art direction, but I have seen many people talking about how Mario (and Peach in that one poster leak) look off. I'm excited to see what's to come in the full thing since trailers can often be misleading, whether for better or worse.

First of all, this movie was so good! I love the fact that Princess Peach got upgraded and wasn't a helpless damsel in distress. So please make a sequel! Secondly, the fact that Peach actually fights also makes me want a sequel to Super Princess Peach. Those 2 things I really want Nintendo to work on
The fact they somehow tied mario kart into this movie is just great.
Stoked out of my mind to hear the influence Koji Kondo is gonna have in the cinematic score. The sound design/ foley in general sounded incredible on this already ❤️

To be honest, I had my doubts about this movie. After watching this, I was blown away. The animation, the cinematics, the character designs, the voices were insane. I am really excited to see this in theaters soon

Only thing disappointing was Chris Pratt's take on Mario.

as much as it's weird to hear chris pratt's voice coming out of mario, after seeing it, i think i can get used to it.
@@ThePlotaGuy7 My guess is that they decided that there was no way to portray Mario’s normal voice in a movie without making it too silly (Mario doesn’t normally talk in his games besides short phrases). I guess they decided that using a really subtle Brooklyn accent was less jarring and made the character more believable and relatable.

The visuals look stunning! It seems Illumination is giving their all, showing they could also make Pixar-like visuals if they tried. The voice acting is also very good, considering a lot of people are a little skeptical of celebrities voicing iconic characters.
I hope this film succeeds and is actually written good, just from this trailer it has so much potential.

Wow! Now all we need is Super Mario World over here in the US like they have in Japan. 31 years later a dream I had as a kid came true...
Looks like they have a solid direction for the action and comedy.
Bowser is a serious threat, and the Mushroom Kingdom inhabitants are also what you would expect, but also not goofy or "made for kids", the world building feels natural and real. Pure hype.

I love the idea that Bowsee kidnaps the stars and that each of them are owned by each of the different worlds / kingdoms that we know from Mario games, I love that the penguins and probably the other creatures are a kingdom individual. The textures and effects are really incredible, and seeing where the plot is possibly going, well there Miyamoto, Nintendo

I loved everything about it! From Bowser to Kamek to the N64 penguins to Luigi, and yes, even Mario. Everybody's design and voices are perfect! And the production quality was through the roof!! This movie is gonna SLAP!!!

This whole thing warmed my heart and the animation is so beautiful! Mario and Luigi look so alive and expressive! Definitely going to theaters to see it.
