After 10 years in the U.S., I was over the racism, mass shootings, high cost of living, and debt. I moved to Kenya in August, and the peace of mind and happiness are invaluable. I have no more car payments or insurance payment, and my Airbnb is half of what I used to pay for rent. I did a lot of planning before returning to Kenya after my first visit last year. I worked my ass off and paid off my debt in the U.S. Now, I enjoy fresh, natural (weh America call organic) food, low transportation costs (Uber and Bolt), conveniences (Uber Eats, Glovo, Bolt), and developed infrastructure. I won't say Kenya doesn't have crime, but you don't have to worry about gun crime. As a Jamaican, I would have chosen to return to Jamaica, but it's just as expensive as living in the U.S.

Better is subjective. Happiness is my better regardless of where I live. However, I am grateful to be born a Jamaican who get to live in the 🇺🇸 for over 20 years & have access to material things just like that, so that I can compare life in 🇺🇸 & 🇯🇲. Nonetheless, I prefer Jamaica because my spouse lives in 🇯🇲 & I enjoy my natural culture & foods. Essentially, as I get older & much more wiser, I realize that happiness is more meaningful to me than material acquisition & life’s stressors such as loans or debts…

I've never wanted to live in America, really doesn't excite me. Cannot say I like the place. On the other hand I understand why it's appealing to many. Most outsiders' idea of America is a sanitised version seen through the eyes of Hollywood. For balance it would be a great idea Rochilin to do a comparative study between Jamaica and some of America's "third world"states and cities where time has stood still. I think it would be very educational 😂🇯🇲

The big plus of being in a first world country is the job opportunities...you can make money doing almost anything and the currency is stronger...also there are convenience in alot of things as well. But being in Jamaica is also a blessing especially when it comes to health care....which is much cheaper. You get better food in Jamaica as well and the weather is better depending on the state you're in. Also America has many issues that's mind boggling as a developed country like the high rate of homelessness and education...education in the caribbean is far more advanced. What we study in Grade 7 for example they start that in grade 9 in the States and the same thing here in the UK. Our kids could excel far more than the kids in these countries.

I fully agree and support the differences between Jamaica & North America. My experience being in North America has been alarming how in some sectors they still function like a big third world country. Example to name a few, is how the government treat teachers, medical professionals and homelessness. North America is more skilled in hiding inadequacies and and malfunctions.

As for the roadways in America, I live in So Flo and the roads are constantly been worked on. In some neighborhoods the work might take a couple years but in the end it's wonderful.
As for the many self check outs in the supetmarkets and other stores it is very common as Americans love moving fast so this is helpful to a lot of people. Jamaica do not need to follow this trend as the peolpe need the job as cashiers and for some it is viable means of employment.
I miss your vlogs of Jamaica but life goes on. Much blessing in your new home in America ❤️

I listened to your comparison between US and Jamaica regarding pot holes, know that the world over have to contend with them, and lately with every bad thing that is going on around the world, some countries have not got sufficient funds to fix potholes, I myself have to contend with them for months in far more developed country than JA. US and Europe have much more money to spend, but as you know now the money is going in the war kitty. JA try their best but we all know better needs to be done. In America we have both full service and self service gas stations. I'm in Massachusetts that has a mixture. But I'd say like 89 % self service.
We got smooth roads as well as pothole ridden roads. We don't have apps to report potholes but we can call the city or highway department

This was a good video, very informative and clear. I visited Canada and spent some weeks there and all the things you highlighted in this video I've observed in Canada.
    No potholes on the road
Driving on the right side of the road
Allowed to turn right unless it says no right turn
Self pump at the gas stations
    Self checkout at the supermarkets
Other things I noticed though were that
there was generally more reverence or respect towards the environment and nature than in Jamaica
people drove better on the roads and were more considerate of other drivers
food (groceries) was way cheaper than in Jamaica
utilities were way cheaper than in Jamaica as well
housing was generally more expensive though

I’m in Toronto and we can turn right on a red light unless there is signage not to do so which is only on very busy intersections. We can turn on red as long the pedestrian is on the other side of the median and there are no cars travelling across the green light, once it’s clear you can go.

Self service has been here in the 🇬🇧 for more than 30 years but now it more widespread. I am a tech geek older person and love self service. But theft is on the increase with the cost of living crisis. Just a few days ago security and staff had to stop a man who had stolen a lot shopping. It was embarrassing to watch but self service is the main reason. Even big supermarkets close their tills at 7pm. Then it's self service until they close at 10pm or 12am. It encourages theft. You should do a part time job in the corporate world and get more insight into American verses Jamaican life. Love this video and like how you're doing your research to create excellent content. Stay blessed

I live in Oregon, and for the most part we can turn right on red. We also have gas station attendants, though lately most gas stations are understaffed, so local legislators passed a law allowing limited self service.

Hi Roch, watched a couple of your videos before you left JA. Love that video about the trains in JA, learnt a lot. 😍
I live in UK, about the self serving check-outs, I like them because they give me that freedom to scan the item and I can easily decide not to buy it if the price is too high because the correct prices are not always displayed. 😉
Also I can easily check my total sum if I want to keep in budget.
However, when they first came, they were always breaking down, or just stuck and customers have to wait on the cashier to come and assist. I also left my £10 change in them a couple of times.😪
I’m surprised these checkouts are not yet in JA. They are usually quick to instal technical-advanced items. But I wouldn’t rush it because from
MY experience this advancement still needs much improvement.
In the UK they still give trouble, customers waste a lot of time waiting for the cashier to come and get them going again after they are stuck.
Nevertheless, Jamaica is NOT a third world country, we should eradicate that term. It is used by the Big countries to impose superiority over small nations with less money and naturally in certain areas less advancements. Just to remind you not so long ago China was called a 2nd world country but China is now financing USA debt. 🥹🌏
Many years ago When the term ‘came in’ I
heard a speech by a word leader who remind us that -
    God made one world.
There is no ‘third’ world. ❤🌍❤

It's illegal to pump your own gas in New Jersey and Oregon. Back in time, there was no such thing as a self serve station, however, it was not unusual to get shortchanged at some stations, but that's another story. I do miss the complementary windshield wash and checking of oil but used to it now.

I grew up in Massachusetts and you cannot turn on the right, but when I moved to Florida a few years ago you could turn unless they had a no-turn sign, they also used to have pump attendance years ago, but they took the jobs away from those people. Most of these self-serve machines are so that they can employ fewer persons while putting more money in their pockets, that is why so many people are unemployed in the US. In Jamaica, we don't need that because that takes food out of a family's mouth, leaving them to beg and do things that they don't need to do just to feed their children.
