- Our 1969 King Midget microcar is powered by a cast iron Kohler engine, and in today's video, we're swapping the engine out for a brand new Predator 670cc v twin 22HP OHV engine for more horsepower and lighter weight! The Predator 670cc V twin weighs about 60lbs less than the original engine, makes double the power, and most likely triple the torque! We're shooting for a cruising speed of 55MPH, let's see if the 670 can get us there!

Keep that Kohler.. Those cast iron K301's are damn near bulletproof. It'll definitely outlast any new stuff.. I have these in my old IH Cub Cadets from the 60's & 70's and they're still running strong.
I was gonna say, that could easily be hooked up to something on a homestead and you would never need to worry about it seizing.
I have a bunch of old garden tractors with Kohlers the only way I was able to blow one up, was removing the governor running it at wide-open and having no oil in it, and anyway like that, it took around four hours to overheat and blow up. Those are the best engines ever.
That engine was used in vintage snowmobiles too. Just a rugged motor meant to run for years. Great engine.
Damn right. Those old Kohlers are tough
I got 3 case tractors (one of them is my profile pic, I have vids on my channel) each one are tough as hell my favorite one (profile pic) is a 1967 case 155 with the k241 never done any thing to the internals runs strong like new... only thing I did was change the carb cuz it got warn out
The oil float thing could be repurposed or an oil level light on the dash, just wire it up so that it's acting as a swtich between a bulb and power, crude but effective safety thing for reducing the chance of blowing the engine... :)
Get a oil pressure sensor from a John Deere mower that turns on when oil pressure is low
@@joshmanis9860that's what I've wouldve said too, I have a John Deere 3 wheel with a gas and oil light. I planned on buying one for my yerf dog
The 670 has an oil pump and I’m 95% sure you could just use any old oil pressure gauge
@@venialgaming4295 yea as long as there is a port to tap into or they could add a t after the oil cooler and add a temp sensors to
good thinking there sir
This is the automotive revolution we need! Not oversized overpriced EVs, but something simple and cheap for people that just need a basic car.
I say we create a dual wheeled vehicle, almost like a bike? And just slap a motor on it and thicken up the frame. Never invented before might even get a Nobel prize. Not to mention the poeer to weight ratio possible . Can't believe no ones has figured this out yet. It's so obvious.
You didn't have to be disrespectful about it. We can agree to disagree.
The fuck is there to disagree about its litterally a motorcycle
No my idea is different it has TWO wheels not 4
Bo shut up now you are being mean
You should totally use this as a "pit car" when running around at the drag events you bring your rails to, would get a lot of attention too i' sure.
Very rare when engine swaps cooperate that well , but this 1 did.
That’s what I said when I put a 7hp Diesel into my 82 John Deere 212 with an awkward engine Mount configuration, & barely fitting with the air cleaner box 1/2 way chewed off by a paper thin margin.
Lost close to 60-65lbs just by putting a smaller motor into it, getting rid of a battery, & having 2x the power the Kohler had with modern efficiency.
I will say that I miss the electric start, but the simplicity is.👌
It’s just temporary I’m planning on rebuilding the Kohler, just wanted a Dsl in it for now.
I think it needs a cars and camera decal
Ficou ótimo teu projeto ❤
Cool.
I remember seeing a small handful of these, way back in the day. Very cool.
🚗🙂
@@jeffking4176Nice indeed :)
Is the midge ready for a road trip?
Yes
👍👍
Ye
YES IM SO EXCITED TO BE EARLY
Yes it is!!!! 😂 love it amazing job
A tip on un-boxing: With box on its side cut tape on the BOTTOM of the box, fold back flaps and then tip the opened bottom of the box onto the floor. Then, lift the box off of the product.
Wanted to say exactly this.
My mother bought a new ‘57 from a classified ad in Popular Mechanics. That was the first year electric start was standard, but the plywood doors were still optional. A single manual windshield wiper kept your hand busy in the rain. Two speed automatic transmission was achieved by two centrifugal clutches on the engine shaft, one with tighter springs than the other, driving different sized pulleys on a concentric shaft with a ratchet between them. I drove it often after getting my license in ‘62. It was especially good for delivering newspapers. Sadly, she traded it for a used ‘60 Corvair 700 4-door.
I like most of the projects. It’s great to see C&C working on an actual car. The King Midget is such a cool thing.
I'd love to see a video of that Opel in the background!!!! But the King Midget is pretty cool....
“Actual car” lol
@@jeremiahblakley5440 they shuould 350 small block swap it lol
The rear tires are on backwards. You may want to swap sides :) Sounds killer now!
Yeah, the tire shop put ‘em on backwards. We figured it’ll be fine
@@CarsandCameras cant you just swap them side to side?
@@bashr52 thats a lot of work. they'll have to after all the one wheel peelin tho
Just unbolt them and swap them around. Aren't they just basic 4 bolt rims?
@@bashr52 right side has a sprocket mounted on it.
People are gonna think there's a Harley coming, turn around, and see THIS thing! 😂 Remember, loud pipes save lives!
Great job on the dual exhaust Charles; Sounds pretty cool even if it's loud!
It needs an custom exhaust build for sure
"Oh we can speed now"... priceless my friends. The King Midget King
If I remember correctly the stock charging system on those predators won’t produce enough amps to run your headlights and turn signals so it may not be a bad idea to buy one of those alternator kits they sell for 670s
Do that and swap all lighting for LEDs. Then there's power for plenty of accessories.
Yeah it puts out maybe 3 amps on a good day. That Alternator kit from Performance 670 might be the way to go for sure.
@@Ratkill9000 they are sponsored by gopowersports they cant use performance670 in a video
@@hulksmashnoobsgotit2387 they have in the past, the rails engine was built with parts from them, and if memory serves they even sent the heads to them to get ported and polished and such.
@@venialgaming4295 yeah they did send the heads off to them along with the carb and intake
I think the electronic device on the bottom of the carb is a fuel shut-off valve. It's there to prevent fuel from being drawn into the engine after it's shutdown. While the engine spinning down those last few RMP's it will pull fuel from the carb, this will cause occasional backfires. So engine manufactures added the fuel shut-off valve to block the main jet.
The valve on the bottom of the carb is an anti-backfire valve. Closes off fuel to the main when you shut the key off to prevent the exhaust from loading up with fuel during a full speed shut down and igniting it. Turns round mufflers into ovals pretty efficiently when it pops :D
It's also supposed to prevent oil dilution in transport, as far as I remember
It also keeps the engine from flooding if the float has an issue on the carb
I've been waiting for this one! So the 670 was a great choice. Can't wait to see the road trip video. I've always wanted a King Midget, even more so now!
My favorite build yet, this thing is awesome. Custom suspension would be really cool.
definitely air ride
And a custom exhaust exhaust built would be so good
Seeing these guys go from house garage to a nice big shop is awesome. These guys are hilarious. True pioneers of the harbor freight swaps.
19:06 the most chill “ok” 😂
OMG I was so hoping for some more vids on this little King! Ya'll made my vicarious day guys, thank you for the laughs and knowledge eh :)
Just wait till next week- 300 miles, good chance of rain. Should be interesting!
@@CarsandCameras Hm, there are some models with convertible tops, I was just sitting here thinking how an old run-about canvas top thingy boat top might fit in thar for ya'll, just a late evening thot or three, cheers from PNW Canada! ;)
@Ogsonofgroo yep you gave it away when you said eh.
That thing is sick 😂😂😂
Would be cool if somebody build one brand new with a front engine 670 in a hot road style, like a mini hot road model a 😂
Man I was so excited when I got the notification that y’all made this video, and that y’all have been making these videos for so long. I was 12 years old 8 years ago when me and my buddies discovered your rat rod wagon build while trying to find ways to attach weed eater engines to our bicycles. We watched every single video the day it was uploaded for YEARS up until about 4 years ago. So far y’all have given me some of the funnest memories of my childhood from all the ideas me and my buds got watching your vids. Y’all created me and my friends, even if we’ve fallen out of contact recently. Thank you for everything you have done.
Cam, live axle, suspension..perfect
We don’t need no stinking brakes.
And it needs a full custom exhaust system
An old school Supertrapp muffler would be perfect for that.
Another great engine swap, guys !! Next stop for the mighty Midget ? I vote the drag strip !
What about power tour next year? Haha
Not everything is meant for the drag strip, be lucky to get it faster than 25 sec.... boring! thats what the rail is for
It's a good little cruiser for a beach bum
I had that Kohler engine in a 1970 something Ford lawn garden tractor. It wasn't very power, but it ran for decades before its first rebuild. I did a few small things on the rebuild to get just a little more output and a few years later i sold it to a guy that would take those and rebuild them to look like they just left the dealership. Last i heard, it was still running strong.
I love this thing! Would love to see this as a restoration project and really done up. Silencer on the exhaust etc. Such a cool starting point for things to come!
Anti back fire OR fuel cut solenoid is what the solenoid at the bottom of the carb is. When power is removed from the solenoid a plunger blocks off a port to the main jet thus blocking fuel to the engine.
Knowledge is key in these situations.
This is great. There's another guy doing similar things over at ROBOT CANTINA. He's a legit engineer though, so it's a bit less janky. If you enjoyed this video, you'll probably love his content.
Love the sound of that hefty V-Twin 👍👍❤
Cool stuff guys. That thing is like a Smart Car with an LS swap! True short story…. The first street legal car that I ever drove, at 8yo in 1970, was a King Midget lol. My much older brother bought a used one, so he let me (briefly) drive it around the neighborhood. A big deal to an 8yo!
Cam that 670 Up like the dragster it just sounds so good.
👍. Needs a muffler. Probably should go through all electrical stuff. Might want to make some sort of heat shielding.
You guys just doubled the value of every remaining King Midget in existence! Now there's gonna be a run on these things!
Now it needs a live axle so Ike can really smoke out the old shop 😂
It needs a diff. Period.
These cars were so cheap they were literally one wheel drive, hence why it got squirrely under throttle
Damn what a cool mean small sized car so cool the sound sure sounds like a Chevy block from the 50s 😂
This is the swap I wanted to see the moment I watched the first video on the king! You need to get some sweet wheels
Awesome swap guys ! Love how y’all make it all work ! Good group of guys! Love the channel!
Y’all inspired every build I’ve put into and I’ve made friends along the way thx guys🙏🏻
I am loving these new longer videos it does such waiting longer for the videos but they are a lot more informative now.
I'm loving this King Midget build it's about time cars and cameras has a real car project on the channel. I'd like to see you pull that old 240 off the lift and do something with it or one of those other beautiful machines I always see in the background.
It's a shame you guys aren't in Texas I'd love to turn some wrenches and slam some wobble pops with u guys I bet it's a blast.
That’s a Kohler k301 you’ve got there, it’s a great running motor but they are quite Heavy 😂 I say y’all should try to fit it on some project
That moment before “Sounds like a video game” needs to be made into a meme
That has got to be one of the coolest things I have saw on here. I hope you do more with it on the channel. A project is never done lol. 👍
looks sweet, drives sweet, sounds sweet!!!
It be awesome for you guys to take Most of your projects and take them around the grandpre track
My FAVORITE episode to date!!! That thing sounds ROWDY!!!Y’all are having way too much fun!!!
Been waiting for this. Very impressed. Love what you do!
This is a great video I was at lunch today and met ike he is just like he is in the videos a very cool dude
Thanks bud
I'm curious as to how fast it'll go and the gas mileage. PLEASE post that after your trip next weekend!
Nice guys, that sound makes the Midget the king! Great job guys.
The Comet 102-C is the clutch you seek! Completely tunable, rebuildable and bulletproof! That tapered shaft type drive clutch is what snowmobiles use.
Back tires are on backwards. Need to flip them side to side. And put front tires on it to match for best chance to survive wet weather conditions. Also, CLEAN THE WINDSHIELD and bring an extra battery and an extra gallon or two of oil when you get ready to make the trip. Plus, that would look really cool and help with visibility if you swapped it to LED lighting. Would be easier on the charging system.
Sure runs out a heckuva lot better with that v-twin. Loads more power and I would imagine dependability too. Maybe you can convert those front brake drums to disc in another video later on. The braking would be so much better. Cool upgrade! Hope to see more in the near future.
Well it gained like twice the power and lost around a third of the weight just from the engine... Plus just 50ish years of better engine design.
Disk brakes would be safer. The fastest these things could go was about 50. I'd say this thing could get to 70 with the current setup.
@@twistedyogert I think the front end controls in general need some redesigning. (It's got so much slop and designed like a kid's toy) The disk brakes will help with stopping a bit but unless you work in a ABS system in somewhere it's not going to be anything drastic for emergency hard braking.
Been watching you crazy fools for years, by far my favorite video!
Towing a minibike on the back of the Little Person Car would be throwing people off everywhere but would look so kool. Nice job guys
Have you guys ever tried modifying the governors? Maybe drill holes in the flyweights?
They like to blow up when you do that
Can you reverse the oil dip stick?
Great job...that's exactly what that little midget car needed...awesome...one of your best deals right there...keep the content coming guys...
Seeing that old shop yall used to work in all the time brings back good memories.. keep up the good work
they make a supercharger for that engine, it would be dope if you put it on that with that car
The drivetrain wouldn't survive 😂
@@braziliansheetbox2497 i know it wouldnt lol imagine they do it and put a hellcat badge on it tho or smth
Pretty cool!!! The back tires are backwards. Also looks like the camber is off on the left rear. Any chance you guys will do a suspension on this car?
Love it. Please, more videos on this.
I could watch this mini car for hours
It looked so small beside that truck in the parking lot.... I love it. 😂😂
Edit: Please put a rack or trailer hitch so you can carry a pitbike... That would make this thing legit as a road trip vehicle. 😁👍🖤
Your rear tires are on wrong. Check rotation.
Tire shop put it on wrong. We drew rotation on the rim and the still got it wrong

Nice work as usual boys. Sounds Amazing
Love this! Best build in a long time from C&C!
You guys are so freaking cool with your projects I love it keep it coming
this is my fav so far, LOVE IT
Dude that thing is awesome!! I can't wait to see what yall do with it!
This is an awesome build. Love it
One of my favorite videos. Good stuff.
I literally went to a car show just this weekend and saw two of these ! As I stood there looking at them, I literally thought to myself, I wonder what a Predator 670 would do in one and how hard it is to put one in. Now I know, Thanks for the awesome video!!!
Good job Charles and Isaac well done guys!!
Love y'all work
Next I would put a performance muffler on it, get everything done, work out any bugs, then add more horsepower. The king midget looks like a fun project. I know I enjoy the content. One thing I forget "Get the King Midget road legal!" Again awesome content to all three of you!!!
Great job!! Keep up the great job 👍
I remember when y’all first started in your dad’s garage. Y’all have come a long way!
The part on the the bottom of the carb is called a fuel solenoid. It stops fuel from going through the main jet in the carb when you shut it down. It is designed to help with the load pop should after the engine is hot. Love the videos. I hope this helps.
Very cool to see something built in my hometown!
Great job guys! Wish I was closer.
I love this. As a long time lover of King Miget its great. Ive re-watched over again to see what ive missed.
Sooo when you building a mini teardrop or motorcycle camper to tow. Even a jetski powered boat. Seems like the next step.
That is a very cool little car and the engine swap is PERFECT! Great job guys! Looking forward to the Road Trip
Attention John: I just got a big single phase 2hp motor in that could work well on your lathe. Best part is it would be almost free. I have pictures of the motor and data tags on my ol' lady's phone if you want to check it out. Free if you pay the shipping but we need to confirm it will work first.
Its very heavy.
I have a torsion bar go kart design challenge for you guys but a lathe is required. Not to mention some math and metallurgy homework. :)
Amazing job guys......impressive!!!
Great video. Really liked this swap
Growing up in the 60s and 70s, I always wanted a King Midget.
It is fun to watch you guys! Thanks for the great content. The Will Farrell looking dude had some cool socks.
I wondered for a long time why you haven't used any new G.P.S. 670cc engines ( not including the drag rail ) , it is very nice to see a new swap project. Keep up the good work. From Serbia , with love! 🤍
I love what yall do its amazing and fun. I lost my CZcams channel so I had to make a new one but it took me forever to find your channel and im grateful it popped up
Absolutely awesome guys.
That is so awesome now time for a nice paint job
Awesome project and results. One of the best videos ever👍😄
