i love that when he does the test drive if you close your eyes it sounds like someone's just mowing their lawn
I loved how when filling the gas tank a lawn mower could be heard in the back ground. I guess when fired up 'the mighty Predator' the lawn mower was scared off.
Oh no, I remember waking up on Sunday mornings with a hangover to the tinny crappy sound of a lawnmower. Not the rumble ofa healthy V8 but the prattling of a loud Briggs & Stratton. No more please.
Dad, when I think about how hard you worked to make my childhood comfortable and safe, I get tears in my eyes. Thank you, and happy Father's Day.
"Weird is the new normal...", not only in building great projects, that's for sure.
👍💪✌
that engine looks like a really good fit in a 40 year old Renault
Different manufacturers used lots of different and strange engines at the time. Flat two, flat 4, V4, 2 strokes etc... Now it is very much standardized and slightly sad the world over.
@@426baronmore competition back then because the banks still hasn't owned the world yet at the time ..
If Harbor Freight could just come out with an 80 HP 1000cc V4 with fuel injection and a 6 speed manual trans for $1000 all in, that would be great.
Lmao, yeah, it sure would. People would stop buying cars and just build little hotrod go carts
It would probably be about 2,000 dollars considering the price of the 670
Harbor freight doesn’t make it. But some motorcycle manufacturers do !
Would be easy enough to swap in the engine from a basket case bike lol
@@mikhailjairnisbett441 and for that you could rebuild the renault or put in a Geo metro 3 cyl. with 55 hp.
45 HP for a car this size is plenty. Compact 80' cars in Europe were about that. 0-60 took 40 seconds with passengers, but handled mountains, participated in folk rallies. topped around 75 mph.
I'd like to share that watching your videos has become a new tradition with my 6 year old daughter when they come out. Nothing better to do on father's day than to watch "the weird engine swap guy" 😂
She's guessing 179mph. Soooo yeah, good luck getting to that! 🤣🤣
@@robotcantina8957 she's a go big or go home kind of lady. She's rooting for you!!! 🤷😂
This thing is sweet! These little motors can take a beating too. I bet you'll hit your 55mph... downhill😂
wow! I had no idea y'all watched this channel too. The 670 dragster is amazing, loved seeing it run the drag strip in the last update.
I bet if they were to hone the cylinders and change over the Rings and valves put bigger pistons in it and change out the cam, and run e86 they could get a top speed flatland 42 miles an hour. Maybe 54 miles an hour. But if they add a little booster to it maybe a turbo you might hit 65
We love your videos Jim. This will be echoed. It HAS to. How can any motorhead resist your content? It's impossible.
A Renault with a decent engine, wonders will never cease lol
Actually the engines in the square ones (R8 and R10) had been redesigned from the Dauphine engine and so long as you kept the coolant and oil levels up could easily reach 150,000 miles. The body would be gone long before the engine in most cases. We had two of them in our family and they just kept going, longer than the air cooled VWs we had.
Ah! Just fit a two-pot Solex carb instead of the existing one??? Or, perhaps, an IDF-40 Weber?
@@ShamblerDK I put a 22r Celica engine in my VW sandrail. Probably has 300k miles by now and still runs great.
Looked like a pretty clean install. That fuel cell alone is going to make this project much more enjoyable for you.
My new favorite channel! I’m gonna guess you’ll only get 48-50 mph out of it in stock form, can’t wait to see the upgrades 👍
Always a great morning when you wake up and instantly see a robot cantina notification on YT 🥰
Ooh, you can get turbos for those engines! You could make it a lot faster than stock! 65 HP is within the realm of possibility for that engine
4:35 DO NOT REMOVE THE FOAM.
In tank foam is a safety item to help reduce the chance of a fuel fire and helps reduce sloshing and aeration
Your's and garage 54 are the only two channels that give us the content we need 😁
I like garage 54 but remember, part of their money is going to Russian taxes.. and that fuels the war in Ukraine, which I will NOT do.
Having watched this channel from day one, knowing you that little car will be doing 85 mph down the interstate. With an engine that will last forever. Have a great week.
Surprisingly, I would believe you could get that vehicle to around 60. This will be fun! I wonder what's up with the linkage for reverse now. I can't wait to see the next one!
The shift problem is likely the same problem the VW Beatles and Buses had with age. The shift rod bushings and couplers wear out so the pattern is sloppy and not enough throw to go into gear.
Thanks team of experts 😊
Hi Jimbo, we missed you last weekend already.😉 Nice that there is a new video for the RENAULT Predator !!👍 Stay healthy and greetings to all from beautiful Berlin Germany, the Roadie✌
Episode 24: Mower deck is fitted. ;)
Ah Jimbo, this content's so fun to watch. A Renault 10 buzzing around a 2 acre lot, running on a 670 BIGGER BIG BLOCK V-Twin Predator engine. Who'd have thought...
It definitely looks like it'll be faster then the Saturn
Agreed! The Renault is definitely a lot more lighter than the Saturn and so it should be a major difference.
@@jumpinjojo I think you might've read wrong. You must've just woken up lol. I misread things when I wake up haha.
@@mackamo4017 What did I misread? The OP made a comparison between this car and the Saturn vehicle. When making a comparison, you use than, not then.
I can imagine that Renault chugging along quite happily with that engine.
it cracks me up to see that gold SW2 parked there- it's like I'm visiting!
The way you think out the geography of the existing topography is impressive, to say the least. Don't drill that hole, reuse this hole and soon we will release the beast! 🍒❤
As always, looking forward to twin charging this bad boy!
👍👍❤ It sounded surprisingly quiet in the cab.
That little engine moved the car pretty well! Congrats on building the most reliable Renault ever! Looking forward to the next one. In all seriousness, you might get that Predator to make the same amount of power as the stock engine
With that ignition system she’s ready for the race track 😊👍🏾👍🏾 I’m watching this with the biggest grin on my face 😊😊
There is a story that the boffins at Renault calculated a top speed for the 10 which the actual car exceeded after extensive testing it turned out the engine cooling intake grill at the base of the rear window and fan had a positive effect on the aerodynamics of the shape. Aro is important. Jimbo keep up the fun. Wobbels the mad Aussie.
You guys are legends, appreciate the hard work that goes into a 15 minute video
When we asked for more questionable content you didn't fail to deliver, I look forward to seeing what you always come up with each weekend.
I'm wishing I could see the 'roadworthy' inspection. Make sure you don't pick a suicidal mechanical inspector!
I think it would be really cool to make an actual clutch. You would of course have to add an extra shaft that can deal with thrust loads and mount everything clutch related to that. Then just chain drive the clutch shaft.
Push down on the gearstick before you select reverse, love this
If this build pans out, I would love to see the choke pull on the dash. It would be so cool.
What a cool project! I love those old Renaults. That's how I found this video I searched for videos on old Renaults and this was one of the first that came up. would be really cool to get that car in Daily Driver condition and use it as an actual car with that little lawn mower engine.
Great video. 👍 Since I missed you the last couple of weeks, I made up for it by watching the video several times. 😊
Jimbo, you need to replace the current torque converter with a snowmobile one for better power transmission & less longetivity
I had a Renault 10, no! I had three! I loved those cars. They were outstanding. Off road they were spectacular. They're narrower than Jeeps. I was way the hell up some donkey trail in Death Valley camping, when a couple of Jeeps showed up. They dismounted mouths agape and asked, "How did you get here?!" I always laughed at them. "I just drove here, why?"
Volkswagen beetles were always excellent off-road because they have full independent suspension and the engine weight over the drive wheels. Thee Renaults were the same except their engine is cast iron with aluminum heads, water cooled. They also have big 4-wheel disk brakes! However, I gotta say I had to definitely work with the blistering power pumped out by the most excellent engine. All 47 horsepower. LOL I painted one of them Cadillac Metallic Red. BTW; that engine was so straightforward and compact that I often saw it in midsize garden tractors. Thanks for the blast from MY past!
lol I saw your face! I can tell you have been trying to hide it so I won't push any farther. I love your content and am excited for every upload. Have a great Sunday all!
*cowboy voice*: this tank ain't big enough for the two of those cylinders 🤠
Looks great so far, love the flippy switches, gonna be a great bit of fun
I like how you used a clip of the SPVM in your video Jimbo! As for the speed, I'd guess 41 mph, and that's if you have some tailwind!
Good morning Sir Robot Cantina
You probably know it by now, but if my memory is not failing me, To get the reverse gear, you ither pull up or push down on the shifter and then you go in the gear. It worth a try
Keep up, as much it's intertaning, it's interesting, also in learning from tryal and errors. Tank you

Seeing this car drive to the end of your lot helps with the perspective and shows just how much room you actually have. 2 acres is quite spacious.
I can imagine fitting a 670cc Predator engine into a 1969 Renault 10 is no easy feat, but you guys pulled it off. The custom throttle cable and choke system are really clever solutions. I can't wait to see what you do next with this project.
I want to see if you can get this 670 to exceed OEM performance! My guess is 48mph. Thanks as always Jimbo and RC crew!
It looks like the love-child between a Moskvitch 412 and a Skoda S100 🥰
Hah! Had a good laugh when you mentioned sourcing parts for a Renault. I had a classmate in grad school who had a Renault. She carried a broken piece of the choke assembly in her purse, and would show it to each new person she met, wondering if they knew how she could find a replacement. PS some guy named Redbeard has a CZcams program, he is building an off-road cart with one of these motors, put a supercharger on it, has it up to an estimated 70 horsepower. That would get you up to 70 mph, I figure, but the upgraded internals for the motor are probably pretty expensive. Good luck with that lawn!
Memories. My dad bought one of these brand new when they came out! Same color too.
It's like a continuous cliff hanger lol. But a very good one. Gotta be back to see progress as it happens!!!
Wonderful as always! For being "good enough for now", the workmanship is still excellent. I look forward to the next one!
This is gonna be a fun build!
Seeing that generic parts counter choke cable took me back. I put one of those on the throttle arm of my old 22R powered RN38 pickup as a poor man's cruise control. Young, dumb, broke, and dangerous.
Maybe all these Robot Cantina videos will encourage an upswing in sales for predator engines?
I would say it will run 95-96 kmh. If they dont lie about the 22HP
Im excited. So keep it up.
What a fun project! Thanks for taking us along!
I was just getting a little Robot Cantina deprived! Always a wonderful thing to see when you post! Great Content!! Thank you!
You have a fantastic narration style and a great voice for it. I really enjoy your repowering projects
The start of another great project, looking forward to lots more videos
Just put my feet up, cup of coffee at hand, watchin" Jimbo of ROBOT CANTINA!
Your engineering is top notch, IMHO.
Placement of the ignition switch box sure gives off some Citroën SM vibes (it had it's radio there)
you just knew modifications were on the way; can't wait!
Just stumbled across your channel and I'm in heaven. This is 100% my jam. You add humor and minimize your efforts but brother I am very impressed with your fabrication and engineering. I know what its like to stare at something for an hour and not say a word while you're trying to figure out how to adapt the old and the new. Much harder to do than you make it look. Cheers my friend. You have a new fan!!!!!😊😊
my buddy put one of these v-twin predators on a go kart. crazy to see it moving a whole car!
This is an awesome concept. Hello from a fellow Kansan! 🤘🏻
I'm thinking sub- 50's ( around 40 mph ) depending on flat roads and wind direction ( Thats right KANSAS ) never mind ! LOL . My grandpa use to say you can move a semi with a 5hp motor depending on gearing ! So with a bigger Drive clutch ( snowmobile ) and a bigger driven clutch ( snowmobile ) i'd say 80 mph ! New subscriber here !
Nice! I really appreciate that you don't ruin the original body with hacking and sawing..
Yes, we really want to keep this car unmodified as possible. I am guilty of drilling a few holes, but nothing a welder couldn't fix.
This Renault R10 come from Bourg en Bresse Province.
Thanks for your interesting video

My Renault Megane sport-tourer 2008 got 56.5 mpg with 5 people don’t believe you will get much better results. The diesel get down to 3 1/2 l. 100 km.still awesome video
1/8th of the way there, Jimbo!! ❤🙏🙂 And Beyond🚗‼
I've owned a '62 SAAB 96 with the 36 hp 850 cc 2 stroke, it was tapped out at about 60~65 mph in top gear (3rd) ratio for third gear, counting the slight overdrive, it comes out to about 5.10 overall from the engine to the driving front wheels. Also accounting for the 15X165 tires (like a Volkswagen Beetle). The 3 cylinder 2 cycle could be economized by using the freewheel and coasting in slight tailwinds and downgrades. The SAAB has to be about the same weight as the Renault, about 1600# but it's much more aerodynamic. Mine got on average about 28 to 33 MPG. The engine is a long stroke, old school European design based on the old DKW Auto Union's Schnerle piston ported inducted design, but SAAB actually had an ignition distributor with mechanical and vacuum advance control, so their engines were very flexible. You could cruise at about 27 mph in 3rd and then floor it and accelerate slowly to 60. They make fun noises and at night the big spark plug's glass insulators conducts light from the combustion and you could tell which cylinder had a fouled spark plug by which one wasn't sparkling. That's all I have to share, I kind of wish I kept both the wagon and the sedan as they both would have been ripe for reengine-ing with the Predator 620. I predict you won't be able to reach 55, probably best at about 45 to 50 if it's anything like my SAAB, it's happy cruise speed was 47.
well...considering the factory engine wasn't my6ch more powerful (if at all) from the factory you very well might make it to 65 on a flat spot while using fourth. it's also highly likely that your swap will be more reliable than the original engine.
We used to have what I believe was a Renault 6. Did well in the orange groves of Florida because it was rear engined.
Another fun episode. I had just figured out what you meant by the "Jungle" site after about 8 weeks or so ha ha. You make my Sundays with your videos, keep it up and ignore the haters.
This is precisely the content we have come to love from this channel. So glad you have finally got clear of the Kubota.
When you do pass the car along, I'm sure Aging Wheels will thank you for your sacrifice
Strange enough, this lawn mower engine doesn't sound much worse than the original Cléon engine. I grew up near the Renault factory of Billancourt and the streets were packed with Renault 4, 8 and sometimes 10. They were all ugly and not very reliable. Did I mention compostable, too? They could rust at the speed of light! Yours is in very good condition for its age: almost new!!! These cars could barely go over a 100 km/h when well tuned (30 minutes after a complete tune-up) and the front wheels would often leave the ground when accelerating, making it a very dangerous vehicle. Adding 50kg of sand (in 2 separate bags) under the front hood (right behind the lights) saved many lives 😨
Love it man, you are one of the only CZcams creators doing automotive stuff that’s stranger than me lol
I’ve got a lifted Subaru with a supercharger and a HUGE turbo, compound baby!
I think your channel is gonna take off, much like project farm, car wizard, and a few others. Honest entertainment
It's crazy how much this channel has blown up. I'm proud of your growth!
Habits have been linked to lowering stress and anxiety, increasing happiness, improving mental and physical health and meaningful life.
best part is these predator engines can be made ridiculously fast, so if we are going after top speed this series will be a lot of fun
I love that it sounds, and looks, like a gigantic lawn mower. For laughs, you need to make a "spoiler" that looks like the handle of a push mower.
I am looking forward to seeing the next video on this project.
Excellent work for the end times!
Remember how this channel used to be about robots or something? Yea me neither, I came for the weird engine swaps.
Such a great channel. I am thinking 50 mph till you do your magic. Cheer from Canada 🍻
The exhaust note seems just right for the car.
I left the following comment on your last video:
"I looked at the Automobile Catalog and found some data for a 1969 Renault 10. When fitted with the stock 1100 cc engine and a 3 speed semi-automatic gearbox, the car was claimed to go at 83 mph with 46 hp.
Hmmm... if we assume that P = C(V*V*V) where P is power, V is velocity and C is a constant then plugging in 83 mph and 46 hp into the equation gets a constant of .00008 hp/mph^3.
Using 22 hp and .00008 hp/mph^3, we get 65 mph.
Hypothetically we should see 65 mph with the stock Predator. This seems wildly optimistic to me. I'll be impressed if we see 50 mph before we modify the engine."
But that is assuming that the engine is actually putting out 22 SAE gross hp in the Renault, that the power loss through the CVT clutch is no worse than through a standard pressure plate clutch, and that the 83 mph top speed from Automobile Catalog is actually valid. That said, 55 mph (the former American national speed limit) is far more reasonable than my numbers.
@Robot Cantina the bar that you attach the start button is the handbrake in almost sure!
Press the top of the bar , it’s usually a button , and try to move the bar down (disengage) or up to engage the handbrake.
All fine solutions to your own uniquely chosen problems. Can't wait for the high speed run. Bon voyage!
Sweet.....from my youth, I still remember how the foot pedals felt like they were mounted about 4 inches too far towards the center of the car.
You can still find some spare parts for the model in Romania. Romanian manufacturer build basically the same model branded as Dacia 1100. So if you still need parts, you can look after that model. Good luck!
Awesome. Fiat 126p had an air cooled 670cc twin with 27hp. 0-60 was glacial. I hope this one will do better, but it's a way bigger and heavier so I guess some tricks will be needed 😊
You just keep delivering banger after banger. Love your vids man, keep up the good work!
My Oma had a red one. I can still smell that interior. And it’s how I learned to drive a manual. Oh yeah, we lived in Los Angeles.
This car does indeed have an aroma to it. Old car smell?... Anyway I sort of like it.
Wonderful Stuff. I followed you guys with the Saturn. And now the "Frog" car is going to be the "Bee's Knees". I'M Looking Forward to all of the future episodes!!! 😁
i love how these outrageous swaps are now feeling natural
Agreed... I look forward to every Sunday when these episodes come out.
its just the logical solution
Right? Why wouldn't a Predator work in my old French car🤣😂
You sir would be an absolute legend around any bonfire🤙
Now I want to see the Ferrari swapped cement mixer.
