I want to say to Glen and the team at striking distance studios that I love this game so much. I hope all of you at striking distance know how much so many of us appreciate all of the hard work and sacrifices you made in order to make this game a reality. I am on my 3rd play through, the gameplay, story, sound design, horror, visuals and combat are all absolutely exceptional. The combat is especially fun and brutal when one takes the time to learn the systems. (like pausing before hits instead of simply spamming the melee attack, as well as utilizing the GRP, dismemberment, ect.) This is easily the best game I have played in years and it is of the highest quality. I've never been more immersed in a game. I really needed this. Thank you.

So true I’ve watched so many let’s plays where people where getting angry at how many shots they was putting into enemies then getting killed cos they couldn’t dodge or cos they kept spamming melee and still got killed. I was practically screaming at them to time their attacks not their dodges, the tutorial even says that dodging is not based on timing right at the start of the game!.

As a fellow creative, passion without structure leads to well, incohessive design. When people ask why its incohessive you answer in east when they asked in west... Its funny I think they asked 2 questions again from the first video they did with Glen and both questions was answered different the second time. A sorta scatterbrain. He is a good guy and he means well, his visual language is unrivaled but he needs equal talents in cohessive game design to help him channel his visual expression through a set of mechanics that in the end becomes a system... Feels like this game is just a bunch of scenes with a bunch of mechanics that never gives off the impression that its a system when zoomed out.

@@warlorddk2070 i understand your point brother as a fellow audio engineer
But don't forget that this is a small studio just starting up & given all the graphics and mo-cap scenes u can tell that is pretty expensive, plus all the pressure from the failure of the previous dead space 3 (similar to the GOW 2018 situation)

Is it just me or is Glen not answering the question asked half the time? Like the checkpoint question, howcome i can go to the store before a fight and i die only to reset to before i hit the store having to repurchase all my upgrades? And Glen goes on rambeling about no rules and how many times people die to an encounter... The question was about a lackluster checkpoint system and a im surprised they didnt mention the pointless save button aawell it had nothing to do with deathcounts. Another interesting thing im sorta dissappointed by is how they seem to have micromanaged every little scene and encounter without any consideration for the big picture. Like, all these small things being tweaked for specific scenarios giving an expression that the game as a whole is inconsistant and has no core philosophy holding it all together. Lets imagine Glen saying this "Here "A" makes sense, well here it looks like a "C" oh and this next part feels like a "B" right?" Zooms out and you realise they wrote ACB in a ABC system. 😮‍💨

The question about the checkpoint system from Greg was almost laughable. I appreciated him asking the question in a way that didn’t sound insulting, but god damn are the checkpoints and fake manual saves such an annoyance. Having to rebuy shit, resell shit, go around collecting resources to buy upgrades only to die and have to do it all over again was beyond frustrating. Bad game design straight up. And overall I liked the game! Please please get this patched.

I'm about 8 hours into the game. Am I in love with it? No. Am I overall a bit disappointed? Kinda, yeah. However, it hasn't been a matter of quality in my eyes. This game is dripping with passion and effort from these devs. Sure, many of the decisions they made didn't vibe with me (story presentation, characters, the biophage enemies), but I LOVE walking around the levels hearing the sounds and soaking in the atmosphere. The gameplay took some getting used to, but it's grown on me. The PC launch is inexcusable, and the team is definitely paying for it, but mistakes do happen. Regardless, I love this team and their work. I have zero regrets picking this up, and I'll definitely be throwing it on Minimum Security and playing with friends who love horror when they come to visit because it's still a good time. Just not a game I'm going to fall in love with like I did Dead Space 1 and 2. I'm happy for the people this really clicked with, and I hope it's successful enough to get another one made! I would love to see more from this universe. Great spoilercast guys.

It is almost like they wanted to make two different games and added mechanics from game A without the supporting systems because they didnt gel well with mechanics from game B. Lotta bad to say about this game. The melee combat is awful and it’s confusing that a decision was made to make it the focus of the gameplay. The mini boss was annoying and being thrown at you 4 times within an hour made it worse. Final boss was poorly designed. The worst part is none of it was scary, relied too heavily on jump scares that were mostly predictable. Then there’s also the little annoyances like the bad button mapping and being slow as a snail that just pile up and make it worse. Just so many things that don’t make sense why they made it like that.

It was just intense when fighting the bosses and mini-bosses for a while as you assume you're nearly finished fighting them yet nearly out of ammo or health. The game took me 10.5 hours to beat, Dead Space is an hour or so longer. I liked the two main characters well enough, but there is not a lot to them, and the story is extremely unoriginal. The combat was fun and engaging. I don't think the game's setting is as good as Ishimura or The Sprawl, it was closer to what Dead Space 3 brought with Tau Volantis, but I liked it fine.
There is more to nitpick, and I believe if my expectations weren't tempered I'd be more disappointed, but I found it to be a solid game. Honestly, it was an early Christmas gift, but if I bought it, I think I'd be more put off by the ending. If this game had a new game plus, I would probably still be playing it right now, but since it doesn't I probably won't play it until it's available. I'm interested in what a sequel can bring and hope we see one. Although it wasn't scary, like Dead Space, it didn't have to be. I just wanted to play a cool sci-fi game and I got that for the most part.
More nitpicks. As usual in games today, I turn off QTEs altogether if I can, and since you can do that in this, it makes those sequences of those long necks that attach onto you wholly pointless as it just turns into a small cutscene several times throughout the game as you can't fail it. It's a time waster. I wish death animations were not a huge focus or touted because they're not special. They can be often hilarious, but after the first or second time seeing them, they became annoying, and there weren't that many because there weren't many variations of enemies and I never died from the environment. There are more things to nitpick, but I don't want to be too negative because I did enjoy it, but also I don't feel like ranting more.

I just wanted to say I love the game, it is of the highest quality I've played and the amount of hard work and passion are on full display. What Striking Distance managed to pull off here is just astounding. The most immersive game I've ever played, I loved every aspect of the game. It is a full and complete package with all the bells and whistles one could hope for from a next generation game. You can tell this was a passion project. I loved how difficult and challenging the game was and how you really had to take your time with every encounter. The story, combat, the finely tuned difficulty, the horror, and presentation were all off the charts, this game has it all. If anyone is on the fence i'd say pick it up, its easily the best game I've played in years. I really hope we are able to see a sequel and a continuation of this franchise. This game made me whole.

I will say that I actually enjoyed this game (in spite of its bland and ultra-linear level design) because of the combat. Everyone who’s complaining about the combat in groups of enemies is playing wrong. There are so many crowd control methods to avoid the swarming groups. Shooting enemies to stun, GRP throw enemies away or into eachother, pulling enemies to you with GRP to separate them for a melee combo. This games combat was severely misunderstood by people who are mashing R2

Callisto Protocol was a super fun game. Yeah the game should have been delayed and could have used more time with the characters, a little more enemy variety, and the combat should have been polished more. But if you love sci-fi horror and you love games like Dead Space and or Alien Isolation, this game is a must play. The story also gets super pulpy at the end and sets it up for a interesting sequel. Not every game has to be best game ever. I understand that coming off the heels of God of War that this game will seem very mediocre considering the $70 price point. But it does what it does well and it’s obvious that covid complications hit the dev team hard. I’m more than confident that if this game gets some fat DLC and or a sequel, that the team will really start hitting their stride and give the original Dead Space games a run for their money. They just need more time to dial in the combat and they need to expand on the lore of greater space and the secret society.
