    What I love most about Roche is that when you take Iorveth's path, Roche still pulls Geralt's ass out of the fire, or rather from Nilfgaardian hands, and even helps him reach Henselt. He's more broad-minded than Iorveth but is somewhat impatient, prompting him to do some reckless things.

  • @CommanderGene

    • @LabradorIndependent
      @LabradorIndependent Před 2 lety +25

      Iorveth's path is more fun. Vergen is a really cool place to hang out and Saskia is a great character. Not to mention, winning the siege of Vergen is a much more upbeat end to Chapter II than the massacre on Roche's path.
      That said, Roche is an outstanding character and his path feeds into Witcher 3 much better.

    What makes the Witcher games stand out to others like Mass Effect and Dragon Age is humor that mostly comes from the world and not just the main character. If you put Dragon Age's Hawke's use of sarcasm or Shepard's renegade dialogue against Vernon Roche or Iorveth, there is most likely a chance of a sharp comeback from those two. That or the jokes in the Witcher franchise are just so goddamn clever.

      Donald Anderson late to comment but i agree. It was disappointing how for a character/story driven game that was supposed to be Geralt's last adventure, they shafted so many characters like Broche, Triss, Vesemir Dandelion, and so on. Not to mention how Djikstra abruptly becomes a complete moron in his last quest. It didnt feel like a last game tbh. No closure, weak interactions. Instead you get a forced narrative, Yennefer completely shoved down your throat, and fetch quests. Even the villians felt like a lost opportunity. They focused too much on trying to make big maps with weak exploring. However, I still quite enjoyed the game. When it has its moments its so good, but damn, some flaws I couldn't overlook which become glaring once you finish the game. But of course people will only tell you instead how it's perfect without explaining shit except that they were told its perfect

    • @babasilikum7557
      @babasilikum7557 Před 6 lety +12

      I agree. It is one of the best games ever made, but they kind of failed with some choices regarding sidecharacter.
      -Dijkstra is like an old buddy of Geralt, which is not fitting in any sense
      -Roche is very different, compared to tw2 and has not enough screentime/Ves has like one dialgue with Geralt, thats it
      -Dandelion,Zoltan deserved some more quests for themselves
      -Priscilla plays no role after the attack, although you have a late storypiece in novigrad at Dandes
      - Yennefers romance option feels forced, cuz she has way more dialogue with Geralt in the whole game, while Triss as an romance option feels more natural, but I still take Yen cuz it fits better with the late game
      - some more romance options in general would have been nice, but wouldnt fit in the game. still miss soem other options there
      - not enough time with the sorceresses liek phillipa. I damn love her

    • @Bingomandingo
      @Bingomandingo Před 6 lety +2

      Literally agree with everything. The base game is overrated to me, because the one thing that is absurdly overrated in RPG's lately is the porn fetish with map SIZE (and I don't doubt CDPR's focus on this eventually affected side character/quest development). Like seriously, I wanted to choose Triss but couldn't because of how noticeably unsatisfying that choice was, so I always recommend Yennefer for a better playthrough; love her or hate her. It's bad to me when scenes needed to be added for Triss (while still lacking a true boobie scene cuz WHY U NO CHOOSE YEN). However, combine W3 with the DLC and it is definitely one of the greatest games ever. It was amazing just how much the add-ons addressed the issues I had and felt like it actually enhanced the game. The compressed storytelling felt more effective and grandiose, the bosses were for once complicated and challenging which actually forced me to think and use up nearly all my potions on Death March (fuck that frog lol), a Shani appearance but can't fully romance (team Shani screwed again), WAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY better villians filled with depth, and most importantly the fashion was improved over the ugly ass base game armor. Not to mention the small things like new gwent faction. All this IMO gave me the scary thought of how good the base game could have truly been if CDPR used this same DLC mentality- they are clearly better at it. With that, we might have actually gotten a more free flowing game where you feel the choice you take is respected if it isn't "canon", with more character quests, people not getting out of character, more rewarding armor/weapons, etc, and more of the Lodge of Sorceresses. Could care less if it makes for a smaller mapped game-- everybody remembers the character-driven Drunk "mission" more than a stupid cave storing a recipe

    • @babasilikum7557
      @babasilikum7557 Před 6 lety +2

      If you could read, you would understand what he means. Triss, for example, should be a equivalent rmoance choice to Yennefer. But she isnt. Dating Triss is not fitting in the game because you always get pushes towards Yennefer more than to Triss. Ofc this is because she and Geralt are lovers in the books. Yennefer has way more dialogue options in the late game and has an important role. Triss feels more like a minor sidecharacter, after you hit Skellige.
      And that happened to a lot characters. They have some screentime, but not enough for their importance to the game

      Ubermensch NS My guess is that spices are extremely rare in that time period in the Witcher world, the only places with spices I can think of based on what the world tells us is either Zerikania or Ofier, both of which are very remote. Why a spice merchant would visit some backwater Temerian trading post would be beyond him, that, or more likely the guard sensed suspicion.

      The guard's amazement was one thing I didn't quite get. I guess you are right about the scarcity of spices. The other thing that I didnt get was Roche's response. He really wanted to hammer it into his head that he is not only a trader but a trader in spices. This whole focus on spices of all things seemed kinda out of the blue. What I didn't get is, is it simply something completely random or is it supposed to be a joke that I obviously can't get at.

    Roche's path felt more canon for me, at least in the game universe. It just doesn't feel right siding Geralt with Ioverth although he's fighting for a noble cause. Roche is the reason why Geralt avoided execution in the first place

    What's with this fandom war about Roche and Iorveth? They're both badasses in their own right, I've played through the game several times & completed both paths, they're both amazing. I hope they both return in Witcher 3, hopefully fighting on the same side against Nilfgaard, back-to-back badasses!
