    Thanks for doing that - really useful to see. I guess the optimum is 10m spacing for full growth/maximum production in an area. Will take some serious patience to see this through :)

    • @RealismusModding
      @RealismusModding Před 5 lety +4

      No don't think optimum is 10 m. When planting at 10 m you don't need to worry about limited growth. But assuming you don't have unlimited area it might give better profit to plant them closer. For instance planting at 5 m will give you an opportunity to harvest before they are fully grown giving a better profit for a given area. Means naturally more work.

    Great video! So, I wondered exactly where the limit goes and what optimal planting is and I looked into the mod code and found this at the start:
    SeasonsTrees.MIN_DISTANCE = 9.5
    And then further in:
    ---Limit the growth of any tree depending on the closest neighbouring tree
    function SeasonsTrees.inj_treePlantManager_updateTrees(treePlantManager, superFunc, dt, dtGame)
    local treesData = treePlantManager.treesData
    if treesData.updateDtGame + dtGame > 1000 * 60 * 10 then -- the game does not update more often
    for _, tree in ipairs(treesData.growingTrees) do
    -- Capping growthState if the distance is too small for the tree to grow
    -- Distances are somwehat larger than what should be expected in RL
    if tree.nearestDistance ~= nil then
    if tree.nearestDistance < 4.5 and tree.growthState > 0.45 then
    tree.growthState = 0.45
    elseif tree.nearestDistance < 6.5 and tree.growthState > 0.65 then
    tree.growthState = 0.65
    elseif tree.nearestDistance < SeasonsTrees.MIN_DISTANCE and tree.growthState > 0.85 then
    tree.growthState = 0.85
    end
    end
    end
    end
    return superFunc(treePlantManager, dt, dtGame)
    end
    Which, if I understood it correctly, means that for growth limits starts after the first growth stage 4.5m, then next is 6.5m, and then 9.5m.
    Or to further explain, for it to be limited to the first stage that the ones planted at 2 meter distance grows to in the video, its anything at 4.5 meter or less. So, they will grow to that stage no matter how close you plant them. Between 4.5m and 6.5m distance, you will see the next stage of growth, those planted at 5 meters in the video. Next stage is 6.5 to 9.5 for the ones at 8 meter in the video and finally anything planted with 9.5m distance will grow to the full height.

      @@billgkoutz1048 No worries! I was frustrated myself at trying to find this info on the web, in the end I dived into the modfiles, figured I would post it here where Farmer Klein already did some great research to save people from having to do the same.
      Also, a side node is that while hired drivers will obey the distance rule in the direction they are driving they do not do so while turning aparently, so there will be 10m distance in one direction if you select that, it will still be 2 meters distant in the perpendicular direction.
      With that in mind, I would recommend after 2 years, cut everything between the 1st and 5th row so there is 10m distance in the perpendicular direction. For the driving direction, well, that would require some calculation to find the optimal distance to profit, but sufficient to say, planting every 5 meters would allow you to cut every second tree after 3 years to create 10m distance so I would go for that.

    • @hostergaard
      @hostergaard Před 3 lety +1

      I looked into the modfiles and found that the exact measurements for growth limits starts after the first growth stage (the one it ends up as with 2m distance in the video) at 4.5m, then next is 6.5m, and then 9.5m if I understood the code correctly.
      See my other comment under the video for more details.

    In vanilla Farm Sim, I can harvest each field once every other day so in the 10 days that a tree takes to grow, I can harvest a regular field five times. In Seasons, you can only harvest a field once per year so making the trees take 5 years to fully grow keeps the same ratio of regular field harvests to tree harvests.
    Also, what happens to trees if you add Seasons to an old save? Do they revert to saplings or stay as they are?

    • @FarmerKlein
      @FarmerKlein  Před 3 lety +1

      If you add seasons to an existing save the tree growth will remain where it is but it will take the appropriate seasons timeframe to move to the next level.

    • @FarmerKlein
      @FarmerKlein  Před 5 lety +2

      All growth is covered by the GEO. some GEOs might grow grass faster than others. usually you can get a good cut in early summer and early to mid autumn for 2 cuts a year but you might get 3 if you do late spring and then something in mid to late summer and maybe late autumn or early winter depending on your geo.

    I think this would work if you planted in that waisted space between fields. As long as you have enough space to get equipment in and out of fields.
    Then it just looks like a natural wind break of trees.
    My question is does the amount of days on seasons have anything to do with growth.
    Like you did 3 day. I play 9 day. So would it take me even longer?

    • @FarmerKlein
      @FarmerKlein  Před 5 lety +2

      All growth is normalized for season length so it would take about the same amount of time in season change be it 3 days 9bdays or 24 days. Will take nearly a year for each growth. And ya you can plant them where ever. I just picked the field for ease of seeing them.

      There is no definitive way other than visually looking. As they grace the grass will be cut. When it's all cut there will be none a available until the next growth event. At that point supplementing the grass with hay or move them to another pen so the grass can regrow

    Really helpful video! I have a question, I have a field with grass and I want to plant trees but for some reason when I hire a worker it stops saying it has finished, it’s because of the grass? How can I do to not plant all of them by myself.

    • @FarmerKlein
      @FarmerKlein  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes its because hired helpers only work on defined fields. I suspect your field of grass is not truly a defined field (ie you cant add fertilizer to it) or its because the field has grass in it the hired helper does not think it can plant in a field with something else already in it.

      depends if you wish to emulate the weather from a specific area or not and also if the map is multifruit. seasons has a built in geo for somewhere in the UK so if you do not use an addon geo then your will have weather for that area of the UK. If the seasons mask is not in the map (ie its not seasons ready) then seasons will work just fine except hay and straw wont rot if left outside and you might see snow inside in winter. aside from that everything else will work as expected.

    I have a question about seasons. You had the time at 2000x faster then real life time, does that not throw seasons out of sync ? I remember in fs17 you could not skip faster then 240 or snow would not melt and other weird stuff would happen. So has fs19 seasons improved on the time skiping part or not ?

    • @FarmerKlein
      @FarmerKlein  Před 5 lety +1

      It may not be apparent from the video after editing but I stopped every 12 hours to allow seasons to sync up. I believe 2000x is the max RealismusModding recommends. When you sleep at night the game bumps to 5000x but there is likely some mechanism in the sleep function to advance things that normal 5000x does not.
