Apparently the RPD is also immune to jamming at least from durability. I'm not sure if this extends to ammo feeding but either way its something to keep in mind.

IKR?! You don't have to shill out half a mil on a weapon just to stay competitive, I can just brute force with any shitty weapon and it's so much more fun. Some guns need tweaking, but I'd rather keep all the weapons good, and then slowly nerf some of them rather than the other way around
Cant wait to play with the RPD more. Also the SA-58 and the AVT are absolute monsters after the recoil changes. my favorite gun is the AVT on auto, burst firing it just disintegrates people, and rarely does a person survive a mag dump.

So when you get a comparable weapon such as an AKM which is time authentic to it, you are more likely to pick it up because of versatility, while the RPD becomes a largely situational weapon (such as covering fire and high volume fire support) but not something you’ll take into CQB instead

You can use the RPD like a MG42 crew, have your friends push the enemies to your position while you wait and then just lay waste with the RPD.
That's how my group have used it. Took it to Woods and ended up killing people over at sawmill. Just keep pressing your enemy until they panic and run into a fire zone.

Me and the boys have continued to hear the alien 'Thunk thunk thunk' of the RPD in raids. Every time we have asked ourselves "What the hell is that?", I would answer it's an RPD... our blood would run cold, and we would avoid the thunk thunk thunks by any means necessary.
Found the rpd short barrel off a scav on woods. With that 100 drum I took out 2 pmc, a guard, and the almighty shturman. People hear the gun and they run.
I love how we are so used to tarkov having such a horrible recoil with every gun that this wipe pretty much everything feels overpowered with how controllable the guns are even on stock configurations.
Now imagine when we get actual bipods.

Sorry to correct you here, but assuming that an LMG is bad at range is just wrong. LMGs are built for medium range engagements and area denial ^^ So it just makes sense that it shreds over distance. However, it shouldn't be viable in close quarters since these things are pretty heavy and thus, weight and ergo should cripple your arm stamina if you're not laying down (as you would with an LMG after all).
Another thing that should happen is that the more you shoot, the less accurate it becomes, especially since this weapon does not have a quick change barrel mechanism (and also being a counterpoint to this tactic of constantly firing with it)

@@robertojustus8567 This is so true that the overwhelming majority of machine guns are open bolt, while assault/battle rifles are closed bolt, as the open bolt has advantages regarding fire suppression (and cause suppression through a cone of fire), while the closed bolt is recommended for more accurate shots.

@@robertojustus8567 Depends entirely on the weapon. Accuracy through volume is a thing. But The British L86 was pushed into a marksmans rifle role. And the HK M27 IAR is used for a similar role, sustained (more than an M4 at least) accurate automatic fire. That being said belt feds are certainly less accurate but dont have a problem reaching out and touching someone at medium ranges. Considering tarkov ranges are all pretty much short range to point bank there shouldnt be an issue with accuracy at all.
I started playing in 12.9, and all i remember is recoil being changed over and over again, from laser beams to any gun being practically unusable. This wipe however has been a blast, i loved sa-58 in 12.9 because of it being the most terrifying weapon to fight against, and it has returned. Still waiting for the return of M1A though
I was running the rpd just as a fun weapon while questing on customs the other day. I got cought off guard by a duo in dorms and the rpd is acctually the perfect weapon for soloing dorms. That 100 round drum just kept feeing rounds into the chamer when I was panik spraying, and later when they had me cornered, they were so afraid to push me that I pushed them and one of them them run away in fear 🤣(tospite his mate being right next to him). I ended up dying but I can't blame that on the gun at all. Didn't reload during the whole fight. unironicley 8/10 budget-ish dorms or factory weapon for pvp and boss farming.
also a correction: machine guns, as in squad automatic weapons/rifles, ARE desinged for long range, mid and long range suppressive fire (not pin point accurate fire), but this is done with a bipod which we don't have funtional versions of yet in game

i just wanted to mention that the failure to feed chance is irrelevant if you keep your guns over 91% durability. back when the jamming mechanic came tom tarkov, people were complaining that basically brand new guns were jamming on them. BSGs "fix" for this was setting a minimum threshold of durabilty burn before jamming happens, that also prevents all jamming related to parts attached to the gun.

Im really happy to see them do lmg's justice. I love those things in every game but most of the time they get it wrong. Glad to see they have low recoil because the thing is BUILT to be heavy so inertia stops recoil and reliable so it can handle mag dumps.

I've been using AK12/RPK-16 with a 95 round drum, and for some reason, I've been mowing down teams like fuckin crazy. This and Zsh with a face shield, has been my go-to setup for when Im torturing myself playing Customs. I have a very good team to support, so having a dedicated LMG person, makes the team absolutely unkillable. This covering fire and shitload of grenades usually solve any issue regarding teams. Today, I just sprayed down goons without giving a F

This has been a bug in the game for a while. I thought they fixed it but maybe they broke it again this wipe? Or maybe they never fixed it at all and I'm crazy?
I thought I remember that you either couldn't Right-Click anything in your menus during a med animation saying "Your hands are busy", or that it would cancel your med animation if you try to do any other action. But I can't recall for certain.
I think that you not being able to do it in the past might be attributed to the "hands are busy" bug that was a big problem for a while. I think that "hands are busy" would be a good way of preventing this exploit though. @@Beefyrulz

The RPD is one of muh go-to guns in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Anomaly. It's especially handy during the endgame. Btw, do you watch Administrative Results?
Historical fun fact: Navy SEALs used captured RPDs with shortened barrels during the Vietnam War. In that configuration, they were used less like machine guns and more like super-assault rifles. They also wore jeans into combat because jeans back then were more durable than BDU pants. Rhodesian soldiers also used short-barrel RPDs in basically the same way, but they put foregrips on theirs for better front-end ergonomics.

In IRL you can't really shoulder RPD in standing positions. The only way to shoot RPD in standing positions is use gun sling to hip fire

True, it's kinda like they copied this gun based on IRL stats, while the older ones were always "watered down" a little, to better suit Tarkov's unrealistically short videogame-style engagement distances.
but this occurs because it has a "cone of fire", unlike an assault/battle rifle which needs more accurate shots (obviously not at the level of a marksman rifle) as part of the characteristics that encompass them.
My Brother in christ the effective range of 7.62x39 is about 600m.

Anything that is high capacity, high accuracy and high rate of fire, and in medium caliber (545, 762x39, 556, 5.8, etcetera) is a SAW/LSW - a squad automatic weapon, squad automatic rifle, light support weapon, whatever you call it. Anything that is called RP in the Russian Army translates to "Ruchniy Pulemet" AKA "handheld machime gun" or translated to NATO language - a SAW.

You can also drag your rpd into second weapon slot, this will make you unarmed so you can reload through context menu skipping the animation.

Today I found a RPD short as a scav on customs and near the end of the raid with 3 minutes remaining I found a PMC that had really good loot. He died after I shot half the magazine into his direction.
Is it functionally equivilant to or better than just using big mags on 7.62 guns?
I remember 2 days in wipe I was doing stirrup and there was some huge fat virgin running factory with a helmet with visor and tier 5-6 armor running around factory, great experience
Regarding the non-jamming. Like many other said it is an open bolt system. It can't jam. Another thing to note is the absolute insane ability to mag dump, reload and mag dump again without overheating. That is two hundred rounds without overheating.
My favorite LMG. I really want to buy one of the DSA semi autos irl too
I think you should re-do the assault-rifle steretypes video now with the new recoil system. Because I think things have changed quite a bit and those videos are outdated.

Hey how do you get better and seeing and hearing people because I’m having a hard time doing both even though I have great real hearing and sight
me and two of my friends loaded into an interchange raid with rpd's and heavy armour. we were only able to crawl, but there wasnt a single living creature in that mall
So here's something about the drum mags that you didn't seem to notice. But in my personal experience and opinion. The RPD's high cap mags are among the strongest in the game, not for the low failure to feed chance but because of something that a lot of people don't pay attention to. That big fat negative to load and unload modifier. That stat is not how much longer it takes to fill the mag. It is the modifer on the time it takes to add or remove a single round.
A friend of mine and I decided to play around with this. And I brought a bag with extra ammo, he brought 3 drum mags for his rpd. Whenever he ran out of ammo he dumped the empty one on the ground and I picked up his mag then ran into cover and filled them up. By the time he ran out of one mag I had filled an empty to half and could hand him that. We refined the timing and got it to be mostly full as he ran out of the mag. Still diminishing returns but in a pinch, context menu reloading + the no negative stat to load up these mags mean some nasty surprises for whoever you fight. Any of the 60 rounders willhave between 65 to 85% increase in the time. As a good example. I used four 20-round mags for the 5.56 and a friend had one 60 rounder of 5.56. I could load all my mags before they finished theirs. We started from empty mags btw and we both have under level 5 mag drills.

A strategy me and 2 friends use is that one of us runs the rpd with top tier armour while they run almost no armour and just loot then we divide it between us before extracting

About the AKM vs RPD. Well obliviously a belt-fed machinegun is going to be more reliable than an AR which you jam in a magazine 3 times bigger than what it was designed to cycle through in one trigger pull. This actually makes a lot of sense. I think it's actually quite great.
I’m just waiting until they add the MG variant of the G36; all it’ll need is that goofy 100-round dual drum as a new magazine and I’ll rock it every map.
all you need is a 357 chiappa, a RSH, a usp45/1911, or a Pl-15 and that short range issue becomes more or less a non issue unless you plan on running in the open on shorline/lighthouse

Yeah I’m gonna call BS too on the RPD having a better MOA than an SR-25.
It’s an open bolt belt fed machine gun. Meaning pulling the trigger essentially just gets it out of the way of the bolt to ride forward. Between trigger pull and detonation of the chambered round there is so much movement that’ll move your point of aim.
Open bolt belt fed machine guns are “accuracy by volume” for a reason.
I'd argue it's correct, and for a few reasons. The SR-25 is a long-range rifle. You're likely not going to use it until at least 700m away, and as such, accuracy is compensated for the fact that it's on semi-auto and you're going to be lining up more precise shots. Of course, it shouldn't be too inaccurate to a point where bullets should feel random, but you wouldn't typically use a DMR at distances where you need to fire lots of bullets at once.
The RPD is a light machine gun. It's going to be used at every range, and as such, it needs to function at every range. If it's only viable at medium-close range, then what's the point of designating two soldiers to a gun when it's going to be outclassed at only 500-600m? Most standard issue rifles can reliably hit at that distance, granted, it'd have to be on tap firing instead of full auto, but it'd still be able to land with pretty high accuracy. If an LMG isn't effective at accurate, suppressive fire, then it's not doing its job right and is a complete detriment to the squad the gunner is attached to.
@@lordpumpkinhead265 This isn't an opinion based thing, the SR-25 is a modern, semi-automatic precision weapon which is guaranteed by KAC to be capable of shooting 1 MOA or below. The RPD on the other hand hasn't been produced since 1960 and fires from an open bolt, the RPD in reality would probably be capable of about 3 MOA at a push.

Super sonic cracks are loud and you will know real quick that an MG is shooting at you. If you hit something that's great and all but in a unit there's gonna be several riflemen with more accurate rifles and these days they'll have optics.
Like this isn't even a debate, your logic is actually nonsense. If you're firing less bullets you need to be more precise, not the other way around. The RPD and literally every other LMG, GPMG, and HMG that's been fielded understands that more lead = better. Accuracy is a footnote at best.

the PKM and RPD are actually really accurate. Especially the yugo PKM. Those are cold hammer forged barrels that get like 0.77 MOA. Slap a sniper scope on it and go ham
Sawed off RPD was so OP that SEALs and MACV SOG operators in Vietnam would ditch their M60s when they found one. Even after the USM issued out the Stoner, the RPD sawed off was still preferred.

Going custom, see a gigachad with full armor on the hill behind the 3 floor dorm, I lying down far away from him as 100m and take out my RPD with 100 SP bullet and little iron sight, I feel like I don't like his legs and his legs was gone after 2 second. I love it with hollow bullet

I think a good balancing factor for the RPD would be if repacking the mag was either impossible, or horrifically slow.
Even with a non-disintegrating belt, it's still a matter of gathering the exposed belt going down the line and inserting one round at a time, then laying the whole belt back into the drum itself.
Definitely shouldn't repack the same as a normal magazine.
So I think the simplest solution is either making mags impossible to repack in-raid, or take so long that isn't not worth it unless you have 5+ minutes to kill.
Or even adding pre-loaded belts that you could use to refill the drums. Still making the repack time longer overall, but at least still possible.
Then they don't even have to tweak any of the guns stats or availability if they did something like that.
Plus if they went with a system of making it impossible to hand-load at all, you could also limit its ability to use higher tier ammo's, forcing players to get pre-packed mags from traders loaded with PS or T45M or some mixture of the two. Not to mention having a barter trade allowing people to trade in their empty drums and something else to get fresh mags.
And before anyone says, yes I know it's _possible_ to repack a machinegun belt and not severely difficult. But like I said it definitely should not function the same, mechanically, as normal magazines do.

Just started playing again. Got the game in Alpha... played for a bit stopped. Its fun but man I wish I started at the beginning of a wipe.
I use a preset cycling 1 PS and 2 US, works well and it's quite stable
