- I apologize if the lighting is off in this video, I moved back into my house for winter break and I still have to readjust to the lighting of my room vs my dorm. Just pretend I got head top of headed. Also, I've been loving ARENA. Don't get me wrong it has its flaws and other streamers are perfectly justified in calling them out. But, did anyone really expect BSG to nail this first try. Come on, the past 5 years have been this exact thing. A broken mess with a heap of potential that is inevitably patched into something better. I'm not saying its good, but its the way its been. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. It doesn’t even make sense. Just add gunsmith and do the OG leveling in any game that was pre 2015. I don’t like the idea of running the same game with the same attachments, EFT’s fun is in the gunsmith

Ive heard (wouldnt be esports relavant but for everyone else it is) if you run out of money, you cant win anymore- as you have to use free kits
(so you have a limited number of losses till its game over) some people are running Toz and will never be able to get a positive win ratio anymore. as you need 3 wins to equal 1 loss for money

You do as of a day or two after this video was released. There is a slight issue with it as you are matched based on the kit you used in your previous match. It is not based on tier level but on the meta point system which is that mo in the too left of the kit. So each team will have on average the same strength kit

recolor the armor? what do you mean we could recolor stuff like we did the PACA for 2 separate events? that would be so much work to recolor stuff for each team!

At 12:55 I realized that the gas mask filter has the black rubber plug still on. That would make it impossible to breathe in with that gas mask.
They should just make gear presets a level unlock. So for example if you reach level 15, you have a tier 4 preset in every tree
Or maybe use exp as a currency and have players unlock gear that they want. Combine that with level lock and it should balance out

I've seen dozens, if not more, better ways to handle this system and BSG chose the worst "Free to play" style they could. Hell even Free to Play games realized it just pissed off players to have a game setup like this. They already have a tiered system (C, D, Etc) but didn't use it.
The tiers could be alot better if all sets gave experience for the class they are in, but lower tier kits give more exp and higher tier give less. So there would be a reason to use everything and if you find a set you like you dont have to switch once you reach the next point if you prefer to gain more experience of something

The most important fix to the balance is to just matchmake based on gear tier or gear score, or just anything that isn't "win rate" based. Before I got the scout kit with the 856a1's, I could literally not do anything against the 100 round M4 with lvl4 armor and lvl 3 helmet with face shield, since all I had was Pst 9mm's I could not consistently go legs or head.

You'll honestly feel the gear diff the most with the CQB line, as it's the line the imo punches the hardest *down* kit tiers. With scout being the opposite and more often than not punching UP due to having better pen rounds WAY earlier than the other classes. (Tier 1 scout can have AP 6.3, the same pen range as a tier 4 CQB kit)

The biggest problem for me is the rouble system and balancing. If you have a negative win rate and run expensive kits in a skill tree and get queued with atrocious teammates, you will eventually run out of roubles. Running out of roubles makes the game completely unplayable, as you either need to go TOZ only or pistol only to try and make some money. Using free kits also has a low payout making it increasingly hard to grind.

They should prioritize making the game more fun and lowering XP to get the kits OR they should quite simply have XP you get transfer to other kits by your choice, like buying something but with XP. That way when you max out one tree (say in scout) and want to do marksman or CQB without getting assblasted in ranked you can just use your maxed out kit and buy the kits in other trees
BSG doesn't make games to be fun. I'm just waiting for a letter from Nikita, or a live stream, where he says he wants Arena to be totally unfair "just like Tarkov" when he forgets there are dozens of ways to play that game and this is a hyper focused arena/lane shooter with exactly one way to play. And a way to play that dozens of games have figured out before Arena.
@@Swarm509 I know that tarkov isnt supposed to be the standard of fun, its fun in its own way, but Arena feels like it should be Tarkov stripped down to its PVP mechanics, in which case they should be prioritizing enjoyment, not realism.
Arena needs matchmaking with battle ratink/rank just like warthunder or world of warships has, that calss u unlock has speciffic battlerating and u can play against +1/-1 rank
Its "not realistic to talk to your teammates after you die" but it is perfectly realistic to get shot in the face with buckshot, turning your brain into mush and 30 seconds later be ready to fight another round. Yeah post death teamtalk needs to be a thing if they wanna be serious with being a competitive team game

Played 3 matches. This game is RPG driven unbalanced, unoptimized garbage.
It has zero potential to succeed unless they dramatically change it.

you've never played competitive CS before and it shows as you have absolutely positively 100% no clue about why the voice chat was made the way it was. Not saying that there ISNT a disparity between solo Q'ers trying to talk to others vs squads in discord, but boy are you ignorant for not even trying to understand the reasoning and inspiration behind that particular design decision.

I feel like there's a massively missed opportunity with being forced to use presets. I think they should rework how the progression works and have different armors, helmets, rigs, guns, and attachments unlock with each preset unlocked, and the ability to create a custom loadout. Of course, they would have to implement a gear point system where each piece of equipment you add increases your custom class' tier. If any of y'all are familiar with army building for the 40k tabletop game, each unit has a point cost, and each game has a max score, normally 2000 pts. So for ranked they could have a 1000, 1500, and 2000 pt kit limit, allowing people to have more freedom to fully utilize all the items and attachments from the main game while still having potential for being properly balanced.
Also, progression needs to be much easier than it is currently
Because it's level based matchmaking, if you try to upgrade multiple kits at some point, you go from being able to kill people to your kits, never being good enough until you focus 1 path for a while
I think it would be cool if they added like a pair of glasses you can pay for extra in addition to your kit where it highlights your team mates, I think if its a reasonable price and it doesnt highlight the opposing team it could be a cool (though unrealistic) feature.
One video I saw mentioned it seemed like Ranked should only have access to the ARP operators. My suggestion is to make the operators kinda like gear in CS2. During each the set of raids there's an economy system which gives players money they can use to hire operators each raid. So at the start of each raid you can chose which operator (higher ARP matches unlock the higher tier operators) they want to use. Getting kills with a lower ARP tier operator rewards you with more money. So do you splurge on a high cost operator to get better gear, but risk having to use the lowest cost operators if you are killed? Or do you go with a mid or low cost operator and aim for the knees?
Unranked games use the "MP" operators, with players chosing which operator gets used for the game before matchmaking and then matchmaking is based on MP rather than ARP.
I actually bought EOD just because it includes arena. I know it would've been cheaper if I only got arena but I also wanted gamma container since EOD edition is gone in about week. Didn't enjoy arena at all when I started playing it. I only got matched against the op vityaz PBP class and absolutely got destroyed, but now that I have gotten better weapons ect. I have actually enjoyed it.
I remember playing mw2 S&D and being in party chat and having the game force you into game chat haha. Agreed, radio chat needs to be available even after death.

They messed up even having kits.
This game has some of the best gunsmithing and loadout creators out there for shooters.
Why they didn’t just have tiers that you hit that give you a certain amount of rubles, then you use that budget to create a kit?
Ban a couple of ammo/ gun combos and you’ll have a much more fun progression path than the grind fest we currently have

I have noticed as a solo player, doing the shootout mode is where it's at, played the 2v2 tournament mode and got 4th place out of 5. Made 90kish roubles and got 5k xp

If i understood it correctly the playerstats of Arena are the same in eft so which stats are you going to have when eft wipes again? Or does Arena wipe as well?
World of Tanks has this thing called a Tier system. It prevents the Tier 1 tanks from vs'ing T4 and up tanks because they have next to no chance of damaging T4's and up. Really prevents situations like arena's. The type where your rocking pst gzh/t45/eko etc and the majority of people you play against are rocking PB, AP20, AP 6.3, BT, M855A1, etc etc

I was talking to a few people, and they all say the presets need to tiered/rated and in ranked, they need an MMR for each tier individually rather than overall
Even when people do use the radio, it is usually impossible to hear or understand what theyre saying. Also after switching team colors 17 times in a day I literally get confused on what color I am constantly

No-one's going to mention that Tarkov has an insane complicated and beautiful gun customization system and they completely destroyed the creativity they could've capitalized on with the kit presets.

My biggest gripe with arena is having had EOD since 2020 and not having access.
Also my buddies who purchased EOD in 2016,2017,2018 we all have the same gripe. Not having access.
I think what you said at the very start of the video sums up the situation. There are problems with the game, but Arena is a new game and there are many changes rolling out. Many people are jumping the gun on the negativity train, but fail to realize that this is a competitive multiplayer game, and it is going to take time for it to get better. Look at counterstrike with its games (especially CS2 right now). The most frustrating thing to me is that they are claiming it is ready for esports when it is clearly not. It is a very early beta and BSG are the ones jumping the gun on that side of things.
I gotta be really honest about the stiletto kit. I was using it for a while to get to sector and the amount of times I would get absolutely fucked by the fact that arms are in front of the chest only to get insta headshot before I can get another shot off is astounding. I was playing solo and my arp dropped down to 1150 because I simply would get shafted before I could kill anyone in most games. When that kit worked, it worked really nice though as every kit should. (Sector is just better though)
Yeah issue with AP-20 is that arm armor is best armor, and since it's a pump action you more often than not just die outright before you get another chance. And if they have a higher tier CQB kit like Zenith (Full cover level 5 aside from arms/legs) you just can't do a dame thing at all.

Im sure the battle rating based matchmaking is gonna be for unranked. Doesn’t make sense for ranked to follow the same. Ranked matches by ARP, unranked matches by gear score I would think. It’s bsg so anything can happen

you can start over 1800 and climbing to starting new tree .. down to 1300.. but now im not stuck with 1 tree woooo lol
A tier based matchmaking system that only allows everyone in your match to use kits from the same preselected tier would genuinely fix 90% of my frustrations with Arena. I really like dicking around with low level loadouts, but it doesn't really make sense when the enemy team isn't doing the same thing. It would also make leveling multiple trees a LOT more bearable.
I finally got access and played like 6 hours solo last night. I’ve been getting shit on by ppl with way better gear since 2018 so I don’t rlly mind that it’s unbalanced. I just dealt with getting shit on until I got the pp19 now I’m shredding ppl. The only thing I hated was having terrible teammates and I think they should change the kit unlock system so u can use other pathways but other than those easily fixable things I really like it. If I like it as a solo I’d imagine I’d love this playing with my friends if they ever get access.
it feels like its a side mode of tarkov made by a dev team of first timers to games , which probably what it is, considering bsg always complained about experienced devs in ruzzia

I kinda just wanted Escape From Tarkov CoD or CSGO that I could hop on after work and not think while enjoying Tarkov gunplay, which this honestly appears to do a good job of. I think the addition of friendly nametags in the unranked mode would be AMAZING. Just make unranked more casual and let the sweats fester in ranked, which most players would still play honestly. What do I know though, I still haven't gotten that email...
I saw a revolver flechette shotgun in the first tier, maybe BSG think that kit can easily kill some high tier Armor?
As a solo player, I can 100% confirm you are going to get rammed on a consistent basis. Especially if you going for Bromine and have to use the PPSH against absolute megachads.
i cant even properly scav or pmc raid in tarkov ever since wipe. Constantly stuck on matching process. (ratio is like maybe 1~2 raids every 50 trys)
Personally i think it should be based off of rubles where you have 5 tiers and you must make classes within the rubles limit. When a match starts it picks a random bracket out of the 5 every time, when you level up you unlock new avaliable guns and items to put in your loadouts.

The stiletto kit actually didn’t get buff but more of a trade off they gave it a 3x scope to use but reduced the amount of ap-20 slugs from 20 to 10
not a trade off. just a buff. having 10 less shots of one tapping ammo isnt really a nerf.

I genuinely don't get why they didn't just go for equipment unlock ranks instead of kit unlocks. I mean it'd make the game way more diverse, replayable, personal and it'd probably even make the game grind longer yet more rewarding.

Listen, I'm not trying to fit BSG in my mouth or anything but this appears to be a build of the game that mashes most of the core mechanics into the 'ranked' mode so they can do a widescale test run before 'public' beta release. I would not be surprised if we see mid-wipe (in 2-3ish+ months) arena wipes and releases out to public beta like tarkov(the reason I think is because why split the fanbase between tarkov wipe and arena full release?). I understand that the CBT was overhyped and most wanted it to be a more polished release but I personally believe that they are getting great kit balancing info from the community and probably a lot of optimization data. Yes, they have released a similar game but this is a competitive, faster paced, not an extraction shooter with loot and is strictly PvP meaning they can start somewhere with what they know from tarkov and use this CBT to build off that in the right environment for the full release.
Personally I agree with every issue he brings up with the game I just wish more creators would say or mention this is considered a CBT build/release. No hate at all, its a great video my guy and I think you did a great job of breaking things down.

My suggestion for kits is a flag.
Let the players pick a tree to work on with a flag. Then you can use anything and still make progress towards that tree.
I'm glad I bought EOD soo the 2 week vacation I had I couldn't play. Apparently wipe is tomorrow so I won't even get to try it before it dead.

i think getting rid of faceshields while they fix the busted matchups would be a good short term fix. literally geared boys are just charging mid for the lols

The problem is Arena does matchmaking based on level, while it should do it based on gear rating. If someone just rushes one gear branch, they will have significantly better gear than someone who plays one reset from one branch then decides to try out the other one, repeat. Then the person who ground out the branch to completion switches to starter kit of the other branch gets so doomed because suddenly they have shit tier stuff when facing people who are half to 100% on branch progression. Also, lack of painkillers in some presets is just inexcusable. Gear score should be the determining factor in matchmaking, not the level.
Some gun economy during game itself would be cool as well, though. Imagine getting money for kills and round wins like in CS and starting round 1 with a basic pistol preset. You would buy a preset every round instead of just being locked to one preset every game, this would allow for much more dynamic and interesting matches.

Adding some colored tape to your PMC’s fingers or wrists wouldn’t be too unrealistic and would keep you from having to look at your inventory every time you want to take a shot

its def worth it, eod gives access to all dlcs (the new maps that will be dlcs on tarkov) and also free arena and other dlcs that arena might have. Also the stash lvl 4 (costs 40M to get without eod) and the 3x3 pouch makes it so worth it and its also on sale

This game got me actually angry to the point of smashing my keyboard after playing 8 rounds in a match, and 7 of those was just crumpling to someone running the "Agent" class with the MP9. Didn't even lose the game, but I was unable to play.
Should get 10k xp per match for the gear trees
