- Modern day world cup level Cross Country (XC) athletes have amazing fitness and technical riding ability, but just how fast are they really? Is it possible for a regular person to keep up on the trails? 🤔 In this video we have a beginner and a keen amateur to see how they rank in comparison to 2021 XCO world champion Evie Richards.

Please get Hannah set up on the bike, give her some tech lessons, and training a few days a week. Would LOVE to see the difference over a few weeks time on the same course.
Such a humble and down to earth champion Evie is. Fun day out on the trails!
It's all about having fun! She blasted around the trail! 🏎
It's because she's got a really nice Dad! Thanking Hannah in passing her and encouraging her at the end!
Evie was racing at Oktoberfest 2015 in Bristol. She lapped me so many times I thought she was twins!
The way Evie overtook Hannah was just savage.
she was clearly told to let her past at that corner, watch it again
Nothing like giving an amateur a confidence boost ,up against an e-bike and a world champion 🤣🤣🤣
It's Evie's Dad so he can get away with it and they all had a fun day on the bikes which is all that matters really 😂
@@gmbn Yeah absolutely, it's all about having fun 😀
She was only about 11 minutes slower than an Olympian. I would consider that a win
@@theymademepickaname1248 absolutely! A great achievement!
That would be my introduction from now on. Like “Hi, I’m paul, an amateur cyclist, that’s just a meager 11 minutes off a world champions pace on my local trails. Nice to meet you!” 😂😂😂
@@gmbn i thought it was teaching us stuff that matters ? then we have fun.
Should've taken a weekend warrior that never competed as the beginner instead of a twice-a-yearer.
Gotta love Evie, great achiever and a really nice attitude, always thrilled to see her racing and giving it all she's got. On the comparison here though....: How long have you been riding..."about five years". How often do you ride..."twice a year"... Were there no other beginner/amateur ladies that at least ride somewhat more frequently?
The woman has a whole 10 rides under her belt 😂
Not much of a beginner then if they had more ride time.
Great video. Would like to see how much Hannah could improve with a month or so training with a coach.
Unfair advantage! Those multi-color stem bolts… 😄
The coloured stem bolts looked so insane🔥
OMG! Evie was amazing. Those speeds on the trail (21-25 mph) were blazing fast. And that was on the flat sections, not downhill.
Evie is such a beast. Perhaps next year UCI over all champ?
Love her. 🙂
Hey @mick4659, Bring on next season!! Thank you for the comment 👊
Evie vs GMBN boys on the same track. Similar xc bikes no ebikes.
Let‘s add the EMBN guys on normal bikes for extra fun.
Hannah beat my PB by 10 seconds and I ride that loop a lot! 28.33 is just ridiculous. Right, time to get out there and see if I can improve.
Also remember that she mentions she went the wrong way for little bit.
@@josepablomartinez6821 that was Evie that mentioned it.
well done Hannah .... you can now claim you finished just behind the world champ...not a bad result at all....
I'm just glad Evie is in a GMBN video, such a fun person!
This has given me an idea... There should be an official GMBN course and a segment on the dirt shed show where a guest is invited to put a time down and there's a guest leaderboard. Much like the old Top Gear board. Separate out the pro's from the rest, etc.
Love it, Evie's such a powerhouse! 🔥🔥
Yea! Hard work and dedication goes a long way!
Right. Nobody can escape her beautiful and strong legs.
Very. I climb certain hill at my local trail centre in 50 minutes and I consider myself as above average, I ride/train about 1000 minutes per month. I've seen the video of a serious amateur XC/Enduro/DH racer who did it in 25 minutes. Who again was 12-15% slower than Nino Shurter on the loop of one of the XC world cup races, so I am sure the climb alone Nino would do in less than 20 minutes I think. Insane.
@Jay Bonner average of half an hour a day, but not everyone counts every bit of riding as 'training'
Next time: a kid that learned how to ride a bike yesterday in a parking lot against Nino Schurter...
I would watch that
And as third they add a toddler on a push bike with a jetpack to see if a rocket nozzle is better than a lifetime of training.
I want to ride a bicycle in a place like that. I think it's going to be thrilling. Feels like I'm on an adventure?👍👍😊😊
Love these kind of videos! :D Next time, how about letting a world champion ride an e-bike as well as an ordinary bike just to compare the difference?
Hannah is more like a "weekend warrior tourist" than a real amateur cyclist but she did a nice effort, keep it up! :)
a weekend warrior ? didn't she say she only rides twice a year?
@@rickywoods3101 this is the same. Twice a year or weekly one ride, there is not much difference.
@@rcs2003 How is there not a difference ? if you ride once a week that's 4.3 times a month that's over 50 rides a year compared to two times a year
@@rickywoods3101 okay its 50 but not enough to induce any development in fitness if you dont ride more often. Its a fact
@@rcs2003 ya not enough for fitness unless she does other things to but she would be a lot better skill wise and picking faster lines . I usually ride on the weekends and train mma every day during the week and I can tell you I'm extremely faster than I was when I got a couple times a year
Some thoughts about E-Bike, maybe not 100% relevant here but E-Bike makes me worry to bring beginners to the point where they do not have capability to ride, it's easy to uphill, climbing but how to descend then, not too fast in cornering ? E-Bike easy to run fast but dangerous to loose control
absolutely love Evie - so good to see her improving and watch her on the bigger stage now
2:05 "SKY ABOVE ME", "EARTH BELOW ME", "FIRE WITHIN ME"
Loved this!! please keep the xc content up to motivate us through the winter #GMBN
Love the XC content. I hope you get your hands on a Supercaliber. I'd like to see you, Blake, and Neil smash with that XC machine 💪
Great video ! , We need more of this and also XCO stuff for sure
Evie is the best! She deserves all the success she’s had! Can’t wait to see you in 2022!!
Just watching Evie's cadence is making me exhausted.
Epic! Would love to see something like this again.
#GMBN XC is so exciting to watch! Even more so than a cycle cross race.
Yeah guys, give us more competitions like that! Great video!
I love the mix & match skill level videos. Congrats to Hannah! It took me twice as long to do my local trail as the winner.
Hi @Vyd Keryx, We're glad you're loving the content! Hannah put in a brilliant performance against Evie!
Definitely want to see more of these vids. I love to ride enduro, but got to admit, I love xc just as much, if not more...
How sad
Great challenge! Bravo to all three! I'd like to see Hannah on the e-bike on the same course! Great personalities, all of them :) Well done to capture their individual spirits.
Love these videos. And yeah Evie is so humble for an absolute weapon
Yes Hannah should try a race, perhaps with some lead up training help? Great fun to finish one.
Such a great video..! The forest looks great, the routh, the competitors and their bikes too. Evie is so sweet 🤫 Evie, you have to put more videos in your channel 😉✌️
Fitting Add for Garmin my 1 month old Garmin 530 died yesterday on a ride after about 300 km of recording for the month. Screen just went black never to be recovered, sent it back to the bike shop hopefully for a replacement. Great content great fun.
Great seeing Evie rip, but putting the amateur on an e-bike? Seems like less fun to have the beginner lapped twice. Gareth may have completed the course faster than Hannah without the ebike. Just seems like this set-up took advantage of Hannah and wasn't in the spirit of fun and support of new riders.
Yeah. I wonder if this was about bringing in Gareth Richards but not revealing how he would actually compare to the ladies in a fair race, or just again management trying to smuggle as many e-bikes as possible into GMBN videos. It's a bit pathetic.
Took advantage of Hannah? What did Hanna lose? It's not like they vet money on it, it's just a youtube vid.
Love it! Keep them coming
I wanna see more of this style content!!!! Gmbn rocks!!
We'll definitely have more of this style of content. Thank you for your support!😃
Three great competitors and people! I was surprised at how high Evie's HR was. I guess I always thought a world class rider would run a little lower but I'm not sure why I thought that. They can obviously tolerate a higher HR without going into lactic acid so why not? It's a testimony to her fitness level that she can go that hard. It was fun to watch her ride and see her attacking style. Granted, it was only one lap so it was more of a sprint compared to a normal length of race for her but very impressive and such a humble and cheerful person. All three though!
Great video! Evie is a gem! Her HR is insane! Would love to know an Amateur’s stats on the same course with a normal XC bike 🤔
Love the XC stuff! Please do more!
These 3 were great so I’d love to see all three back again!
I still say this girls got a little screwed. To me, anything with a motor in a competition such as this is just, well, might as well jen on a Ducati. Pretty much the same odds of loosing to dad. Would love to see a fairer fight next time 👍
Awesome!!! More XC plz!!! Evie is so cool.
Yesss!!! More XC videos
I like the rainbow bolts on Evies stem.
I noticed that too, she really earned that jerseys and must be so, so proud. The bolts give it away 😉
Got to love Evie, she’s super lush and humble. Having seen her dad, it’s not surprising. Fun times
Would've been interesting to see the power (watts) which was pedaled.
Yay Evie , what a lass , she’s been smashing it this year , 👌❤️✌️
Keep em coming that was a great vid, next time put in an amateur racer in the mix as well
Great effort Han, well done. Would be interesting to see how you’d do on an E Bike.
A long time ago, Alison Dunlap, at the time the XC world champion, rolled up to the start line of a cyclocross race I was in. When the start whistle blew, she was gone like a rocket, with a desperate pack of about twenty amateur guys, including me, all just racing for second place. I think she lapped all of us at least three times! 🤯
I still remember seeing her winning the 1994 UCI World Championship at Vail, Co.
Evie has had such an awesome year and is a real inspiration to anyone doing XC
Really funny video and congratulations to everyone involved.
Brilliant. Evie is such a happy person.
Wow… Think Dad did 1 awesome job to raise a humble world jump. Great to see that.
Well done guys and awesome video
Love the bolts on Evie's stem.
All hail Evie! And her Dad- awesome attitudes.
Evie 😍.
Would be cool to see her in cyclocross again.
Hannah could consider racing in masters, its heaps fun.
That was great! I was expecting Rich or Blake as the masked crusader!
Hannah did very well but all you guys rock, thank you for very entertaining video.
I had I go of that loop on the weekend, I did it in 41m 52s . I’m a bit gutted 😔 . Can you make more of these and post them on strava please 👍👍👍
So many amazing riders on your end of the pond and this is what you geniuses came up with... It's incredible, really, the daftness of this channel sometimes. Starting to make me think it's just a GB thing in general.
Hey @ryogain USU, We are so lucky to have so much talent on our doorstep! Also, that's British humour for you!😂 Thanks for the support!
Can’t wait for the next episode
Next get someone on the bike that rides at least two times a week on a mtb
Would’ve liked to see Evie’s power numbers 💪🏻
Evie is amazing, I was so stoked when she took the championship.
That was fun. Though should have pro and beginner with similar ages... age make big difference, especially if a beginner is older as don't have experience to help offset age related fitness degradation.
Hannah should be proud of being that close to Evies time. I would.
Hannah did amazing!!
Another great one 👌 👍 👏
Amazing 👏 🙀 😯
Stunning!
Would love to see a downhill vs enuro vs trail vs xc vs emtb test
Including hardtail vs full suspension vs gravel
That was fun to watch
Evie! Evie! Evie! 🎉 Amazing spirit, fun personality, and an amazing smile. And what better motivation than to try to beat your dad who is on an e-bike.
Rainbow bolts on stem face love it!
Good spot! They are such a nice addition to the bike! 👍
Let us see more, please !
XC is near pure fitness, all the skills in the world with no fitness vs. a beginner roadie with minimal skills and excellent fitness will be a no contest race for the beginner roadie win, try it out with a dirt jumper or trials rider who doesn't ride xc vs. any GBN rider, would be cool to see, I would say try it the other way too, but health and safety might not. Real XC races are grueling. Cool to see the beginner had a great ride.
Should've gave Evie the Ebike for a lap also! interested to seeing the difference (and the time against her dad on it)
Great show
Should do these for enduro and DH too. I'm sure you could find a current EWS racer and a world cup DH racer willing to play.
Evie is just one of my favourite athletes all categories
Trail looks awesome!
More Evie please 😃
nice 1 hannah, you beat my best time around there :)
Great to see Evie on here. Her fitness level is nuts.
She certainly has some insane pedal power!🔥
Everyone who's fast in their group of friends needs to race at the least a regional level to understand how fast truly fast is, it's a great humbling and motivating agent at the same time.
Would be cool to see a 'local legend' rider on these types of vids
That was fun!
I'm just here for Evie 😍😍😍
"i can taste blood" as an overweight person using cross country to lose weight i can relate lol . ive never felt as if i was dying as much as when i started xc
Спасибо за Видео !
Thumbs up for Hannah's effort, as she had to do the hardest work.
XC Racers have THE MOST respect from me... Not only do they look fit - like they actually ride bicycles(as opposed to rolling bikes downhill) - they are most likely the fastest MTB-ers out there... What I want to see, is a proper & fair vs matchup between an XC Champion & an Enduro Champion - let's leave the (CH)E(AT)-bikes out shall we? I wanna see who the fittest & fastest off roaders are - so I myself can be certain of which style to focus on, because fitness is VERY IMPORTANT to me when it comes to cycling(& I LIKE SPEED)... >.>
I'll agree with you there, I don't understand why so many see downhill as the absolute top tier in mtb riding, yes it takes skill and good setup bike to make it down but its not exactly proper mtb riding is it
@@drewstreet4178 INDEED - AWESOME point... =]
I think I have a crush on Evie, lol. Fun video!
Gotta love Evie
Hanna was actually pretty great, she may even have taken it a bit easy if the heart rate is any indication
Just based off the heart rate numbers, Evie wasn't going full gas. I bet her thereshold heart rate is much higher.
yeap. add +10 to that which is olympian level which she is LOL
Probably a recovery ride for her.
Generally speaking your max HR is 220 minus your age, so even as a reasonably fit person Evie would max out at approx 196bpm, before taking into account her sporting prowess.
@@069ban9 yeah, generally speaking. Even I, with 19 years and 1 year of basic training one the bike, got to 210bpm in an XC race. My thereshold is at 193. I bet her thereshold is the same as me, if not higher.
@@069ban9 Jup that's just a very general rule. I'm 35 and max out at 204
