@@brandonflorida1092 Your chronology is incorrect. Buddy Holly was a C&W singer. He witnessed Elvis and that changed him musically. Little Richard had a dozen songs out before Elvis recorded "That's All Right" in July of 1954. But none of Little Richard's early releases were R n R. Elvis was doing Rockabilly --a closer approach to R n R than Little Richard's early material.
R & B was sort of early R n R. Fats was playing that as far back as the late 1940s. Elvis always gave credit to Fats and others who were doing it long before him.
The end of 1955 is when Berry and Mr. Penniman finally recorded R n R.
The movie "Back To The Future" is not an authorized source of historical facts. LOL!!

A recording of Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode" was sent into interstellar space in 1977 on two separate Voyager spacecraft. The record includes pieces by such musical greats as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and many indigenous musical works. It also contains natural sounds of the earth and photos too. The record is pure gold and will last millions of years. If an extra-terrestrial being finds the craft and the record, it will see and hear life as it existed on our planet in the 20th century.

Kinda fun checking out and reacting to a live version of any song by any artist, but when you do that, you run the risk of missing the opportunity of hearing for the first time the original recording that was the reason the song became a hit in the first place. In this case, you missed hearing one of the most impactful, influential recordings of all time. More people have picked up a guitar for the first time after hearing the opening riff in that recording than probably any other song in history. That, and hearing the rolling bass lines of Willie Dixon, and the Johnny Johnston inspired piano lines played by Lafayette Leake (not just some house band that changed night after night, city after city, gig after gig, as is seen plucking away in this video). I would highly recommend checking out the actual studio recording of this song (and probably a good practice in the future to do that before checking out live performances of most songs).
    Peace

This guy was a deity. Some quotes:
John Lennon: “If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it ‘Chuck Berry.'”
Stevie Wonder: “There’s only one true king of rock ‘n’ roll. His name is Chuck Berry.”
Jerry Lee Lewis: “[My mama] said, ‘You and Elvis are pretty good, but you’re no Chuck Berry.'”
Bruce Springsteen: "Chuck Berry was rock's greatest practitioner, guitarist, and the greatest pure rock & roll writer who ever lived."
Keith Richards: "I've stolen every lick he ever played."

In 1977, NASA launched two spacecraft - Voyager 1 and 2 - to explore Jupiter, Saturn and FAR, FAR BEYOND. Each carried a 12-inch gold plated record that contained music, sounds and images picked to represent the great diversity of life on Earth. The idea was maybe one day extraterrestrial life far away would stumble on the records and learn something from us. Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode'" was embedded with the likes of: Beethoven's, Fifth Symphony; Stravinsky's' Rite of Spring; and Bach's, Brandenburg Concerto No. 2. No other rocker made the cut (not the Beatles, not Elvis, not the Stones, not Hendrix, Joplin, or Morrison). This song is literally "far out" among the stars. Now that's immortality. Who knows, maybe a billion years from now some alien being will be tapping their tentacle to Johnny B. Goode.

I've heard stories about Chuck Berry and how he didn't trust anyone with his money. When Chuck showed up for a gig, he wanted payment, in cash, before he hit a note. He also would just pick up local backing musicians that the club or local promoter would get for him, and he wouldn't pay them much. They played because it was a chance to play with a living legend. I also heard that Chuck would do a quick run through of his tunes an hour or so beforehand with the pickup musicians playing in basic R&R keys....... then when they were on stage, the song they rehearsed in E, he would say at the last second, "B flat fellows" and if they weren't ready, he would verbally abuse them. He also tried that with Keith Richards at the concert for "Hail, Hail Rock and Roll". When the concert was over, Chuck would throw his guitar, amp, and money bag in the trunk of his Cadillac and peel out for the next gig.

A friend of mine was in a band that backed him up on a gig in New Hampshire. He didn't even do a quick run through of the songs, no rehearsal at all. A few minutes before the the show started one of them asked him what songs the were going to do. All he said was "Chuck Berry songs". He would just yell out the key to them as they were about to start the song. Sometimes he'd also say the name of the song and sometimes he'd go right into the intro without naming the song and they just had to follow him.

Does he have any teeth? Where did that come from? Chuck was performing before Elvis..but Elvis was first commercially successful (regionally only) with his July 1954 release of ‘That’s Alright Mama’ …Elvis was a huge fan of Berry and would record a good many of Chuck’s songs…Chuck who is considered the architect of Rock’n Roll would have his first big hit a year later July 1955 with his song ‘Mabellene’ and his music and guitar playing would influence many future musicians.

One ofthe fathers of Rock ' roll, even if quite a few of his songs sound the same (compare this one to 'Let it Roll,'). I like 'Maybelline,' and especially 'C'est la Vie' (AKA 'Teenage Wedding' or 'You Never Can Tell.')

Now all you have to do is react to The Jimi Hendrix version. Then you’ll know everything you need to know about guitar before Chuck and guitar before Jimi. Just do a search for “Hendrix Johnny B Goode.” You’re welcome.

Elvis Presley, the King of Rock n' Roll or Michael Jackson? What a freaking joke. Even when Elvis went to a concert with Tom Jones, he himself told Tom Jones that Chuck Berry is, was and will always be the for real "King of Rock n' Roll". It's true youngsters. It's very, very true. Get it together will you? Get it together. PS: This is how it's done. Period. Welcome to the real world of reality. Chuck Berry is Numero Uno.
