Just moved back to the USA after 15 years in the Philippines. I lived on Cebu, and also Palawan. Iโ€™m thankful to be back in the USA. I agree with your choice of Camiguin. My wife and I had our honeymoon on Camiguin. Itโ€™s a slow paced, quiet place where nothing much happens, peaceful and beautiful.

Iโ€™m glad to see that you have included several Mexican cities in your list, especially Oaxaca. That is a beautiful, safe, inexpensive city with colonial and native culture in abundance. The food is some of the finest in the world, with excellent restaurants in all price ranges and several great cooking schools. This is the center of the Day of the Dead festivities, which is a sightseerโ€™s and photographerโ€™s dream. Iโ€™ve been there five times and canโ€™t wait to return.

Another good video Dan. The choices were all good from what I can see. I think for someone like myself a lot would depend on how much English is understood and spoken in any given country, but the quality of food would be a big influence too. ;How lucky did I get to be able to start planning my semi- retirement? After barbering for nearly 30 years,I hold the lease in a hot neighborhood with a storefront. Iโ€™m paying way under market value,so I can lease my space out for 4 times what Iโ€™m paying and live off of that income! Never in a million years would I have ever thought my quality of life could be so amazing. Sitting here in the U.S struggling to make ends meet, not having enough money to truly take care of myself physically and emotionally. Moving to Da nang is going to change my health, my personal growth and having the time to travel, eat well get 2 massages a week Ha! Meet people and appreciate a diverse culture. Folks, for a westerner who busted his ass working for 30-40 years, the ticket is southern Europe. Portugal, Spain, and especially Greece. I chose the latter and was the smartest decision I ever made. Cost of living somewhere between 1/2 and 1/3 of that of US, amazing climate, breathtakingly beautiful country, culture, history, cuisine. And a few very important things that you may not realize until it s too late: 1. top notch healthcare (there are insurance options). Actually, for years, my taking the family to a Greek dentist offset the cost of the entire trip. 2. Safety. All this beauty in Mexico wont do me a damn good if a gunman breaks into my home and kidnaps me and my family. thanks but no thanks 3. Infrastructure: great highways, shiplines, and 5G internet (under construction) at a fraction of the US cost. 4. Best of all: the people. Very friendly and hospitable, extremely cosmopolitan, English peaking by most, and really fun to be with. And at the end of the day, it is the people that make all the difference.

Playa de Carmen beaches are not what they used to be because of the Sargazo and the heat can be suffocating if you're not lying on the beach. Plus, you have to deal more with tourist and tourist prices.

Retirement visas are easy in bali/Indonesia. It takes about 2 months to get so you can arrive on a visa on arrival and apply while there. They cost about $600 a month, once you got it you can leave as many times as you please or never leave. The retirement visa/kitas gives you the ability to buy cars and motorcycles in your name. So are not required to put any money in a bank (like the philippines) but I believe you must show sufficient funds such as $1800-2000 a month income.

I lived in Thailand for 10 years, i just bought a house there, and will retire there when the travel ban lifts. Not sure about the retirment welcome mat no there any more....I will get a marriage visa which is a lot freindlier than the retirment visa. Immigration did not tell me about a health insurance requirement....but who knows I will find out soon. I speak Thai so I can live in a rural area, if you dont, I would like in a more poulated area then English will srever you fine. Please tell us why you think Thailand is no longer retiree freindly and how to best deal with those issues if you do retire there. Thank you for the great video.

Agreed with you on Thailand. I lived in Chiang Mai for nearly 4 years after trying Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket. To me, Chiang Mai is really the only livable place in terms of normalcy and being able to find "real Thailand". However, the govt and Thai Elites are still unfortunately quite xenophobic and just really don't want us foreigners there for any extended period. After years spent there, I think it really boils down to a westerner feeling their have the right to fairness and being able to voice their thoughts freely... whereas Thais inherently will bow to any pressure at all from someone in a higher social position. Until they change that mentality... that those in higher positions should be able to whatever they want without criticism or even the appearance of logic and fairness... then they should remain off everyone's list. Their visa system is awful and as a foreigner, Thai logic says you should just be grateful to be there at all. Not a good approach for making people feel welcome or wanted.

What kind of food do you eat, i suppouse a local food, becasuse you can forget to taste a western food, unless you pay good money for a bottle of imported wine. Once in a blue moon I will eat pork and I donโ€™t eat red meat. I only eat 2X a day and itโ€™s enough for me...late breakfast and dinner. I havenโ€™t drink wine for months plus with lockdowns grocery stores canโ€™t sell alcoholic drinks and people really canโ€™t drink. Not a problem for me. I live outside Manila. Yes, I'd agree if you're cooking your own food instead of dining out, then $500 usd a month would be fairly reasonable. It wouldn't be as luxuriuosly convenient by Western standards, but at the barest minimum it'd be still pretty decent. Nothing beats a nutritious home-cooked meal

Ok, I watched the video and then I read each and every comment, and replies to comments. Now I wish to set many of you straight on many things concerning Mexico. 1. I have lived in Mexico City since 1980. Crime, of course. But like Vagabond said, in many cases and places, the US is worse. I raised my son here, who is now a successful professional, and not once, from pre-K through University did we ever experience problems with guns in schools, massive killing of students in grade schools by other grade school students, or anything of the sort. 2. Food and people, absolutely terrific. Even the more expensive cities in Mexico are going to be cheap with anyone having USD incomes. Of course, the exceptions are going to be the beach resorts, that is why they are called resorts. So, Dan, sorry, dude, but really do not understand how you could even think of recommending Playa del Carmen if your criteria is for it to be economical for retirement. 3. Oaxaca is a terrific ccity, one of my favories, but unfortunately the uncontrolled Teacher's Union tends to take over the the city center more times than not, making it impossible to enjoy, never mind live. 4. Guanajuato is absolutely beautiful, full of culture, and the site of the yearly Cervantino festival. But yes, it is a university town, making it more suitable and bearable for young people. I am talkin in terms of retiring / living there. To visit, terrific. 4. Mรฉrida (pronounced Mรฉr-ee-dah), also known as la Ciudad Blanca. Beautiful, the food, to die for, but the heat is to die in. Not only is the heat swelterin 10 out of 12 months a year. it is the sticky, muggy sort of heat, reaching as high as 50ยบC. That makes NYC is August seem like a picnic. But it has a very low crime rate. Unfortunately, with climate change, it has been the site of tough hurricanes, but all in all, I can certainly think of worse places in the world to live. 5. Querรฉtaro (pronounced Ke-rรฉ-tah-row) is the absolute best. It is in the Mexican bajรญo region, a city with all the amentities and benefits of a modern city, but not the negative aspects of something so huge like Mexico City, or Monterrey, or even Guadalajara. Once again, you can live quite comfortably at affordable prices if you have a USD income; for instance monthly social security check. I have a house there, and intend to move in about a year, to retire. I can't wait. I hope this has been of help. And please, leave your stereotypes of Mexico back where you live. Is there crime, of course. Are there places to stay away from, of course. Every country has that.

I do know the Baht is rather high which is a deterrent. And medical insurance for older retirees is not as easy as it was years ago.
