    @Robby Layton, I think you're going to like the Bosch stuff especially if they threw in a few 4A and 8A core 18v packs and fast chargers in there. I have a lot of them and feel that they are underrated in the tool world; good, reasonably powerful, reliable tools that get the job done time after time deserve their place on our workbenches. The ergonomics and balance of their tools are great, I really like the precise trigger speed control and gyro/accelerometer feature of their drills. (If your bit grabs, the power cuts out and brake kicks in before the drill can swing and do any damage at all, much less throw you off your balance if you're working at height.) But my favorite of all is their one handed reciprocating saw; a mighty beast in a small, easy to maneuver format that fits in tight places.

    Hi guys, awesome video , as usual> Many years ago so memory is vague but I worked for a steel company and we used to use a lot of bender machines and there is a relatively easy formula for getting any bend in the right place to the millimetre, I can't recall the numbers now but I am sure with a bit of searching the net and you'll find it. We used to to twist and bend Rebar and though it might not look it Rebar had to be accurate to the millimetre! Also of course pipework for all kinds of applications domestic and commercial so as clever guys like your selves it should be no problem.

    Hey Robbie little tip/trick of the trade - when using a bender such as the jd2 or jd32. You never use center of the bend to measure always find the tangent line...you can find that by finding where the bend starts on each die, use some grease on the die and bend a couple peices of tube… you will notice where the bend starts, mark that on each die. each die will always have a start of the bend…-
    Mark it and then measure. Once you figure that out it’s easy. Also always start from the middle and go out. But using your tangent lines as markers for bends. Typically each tube and die size i always pre made a pre bent 90 and a prebent a 45. With my tangent lines marked it was super easy to measure out tubes, bend starts and so forth. Once you see on the die where the bend starts I typically would put a grind mark on the die. It wont move. So you can always line your marks up as such. If that makes sense.

    • @bsagreg

      @fixxuscs-marshall8202 Před rokem

      @@bsagreg well do you use a bender? And do you know what the tangent line is? If you bend a tube on these benders… the die will show where the bend starts.. using that mark/tangent line/start of bend its pretty easy to start marking bends out… but you also always bend from the middle out if your doing a 3-4 bend loop.. Robbies a smart guy… just wanted to give him a simple tip that will make his life much easier. No biggy…

    • @bsagreg
      @bsagreg Před rokem

      Many can do , Some can show how , Very few can explain how as well as to why its its done. I like the part of having pre bent of multiple sizes so even if not a 45 or 90 they will get you a close starting point Thanks for taking the time.

    • @fixxuscs-marshall8202
      @fixxuscs-marshall8202 Před rokem +1

      @@bsagreg oh for sure.. the pre brents always work well to have. But what i was tryen to explain is the tangent lines and how to read them on the tube. The start of the bend and the end of the bend aren’t the same on these benders… and if you use the tangent line of the start of the bend, which you can mark on each die by using some grease and seeing where the bend starts at… and then using that tangent line to use all starting measurements from, you will always be able to get precise measurements when bending… i was just tryin to be helpful i guess.. but oh well.

    I've got a full kit of Bosch Blue and I love it. You have to be careful with the impact drivers because even the small one will break screws. In fact, I use my Bosch Green 18V impact gun for wood screws because it is powerful enough without being too powerful. My favourite is a big corded router which never stalls and has micro adjustment. I'd like to get a smaller skill saw if I can work out which one works with the Bosch guide rail. I have a big 18V skill saw, but it's a touch heavy for some jobs.

    In piping/tubing, you call the outside ends of the bends "straight flanges". A great rule of thumb is to make the straight flange the same length as the nominal dimension as the pipe. So a 2" 45° bend would have 2"SF. If you get into the habit of cutting the straight flanges of your templates the same lengths all the time, you will have a nice sharpie mark where the transition between the bend and the straight sections occurs. That will make measuring the straight sections between the roll cage bends super easy to reproduce, and you won't ever need to calculate the arc lengths.
    Another tip is to use cardinal angles for your bends (except for the ones that have to be specific). So start with 30°, 45°, 60°, and 90°... And when you want more, add 15°, 22.5°, and/or 10°. Those are generally the bend angles that are used to make things when a design layout is done on CAD. That's when you need to figure out when the bend length represents the centerline, ID, or OD. Arc length = 2π(bend radius)(bend angle/360). Easiest way to fab is cut segments with one bend, and start long, so you can cut them to length just before welding.
    BTW, tubing is used more than pipe for roll cages because easier bending/less expensive because thinner wall, and because the nominal OD is the nominal size of the tube, unlike pipe. That makes figuring out the bend radius a lot easier.

    Guessing that you will like the Bosch tools, the quality of their manufacturing and assembly is great - really tight tolerances. The only thing to be aware of is that Bosch doesn't make copy cat tools. Quite often their controls will be a little bit, sometimes a lot of bits different than other tools made for similar tasks. Often times there is an improvement made that will allow you to do something quicker, better more efficiently, but sometimes it will just be Bosch being different just because they're Bosch - sort of like what Mercedes and BMW do with their car builds - especially engines. Playing with new tools is usually awesome, have fun! 😃

    Robby I was watching the latest Broncstar build video and I saw your battery powered mobile bender it's Cool! but for the Battery you should be using a Lithium Ion car type battery 100 Ah the reason is that lead acid type batteries only can put out about 50% of their available power whereas the Lithium type go closer to 95 percent they have an incredible run time. Lot's of them available on Ebay. They are more expensive but well worth it also they make higher current small chargers for either type. The faster the recharge the more work can be done.

    Since this hood is shot, you can spray some paint on a Milestar and roll it across the hood. Use tire tracks as a replacement for the stripe.

    Need to use a cheese grater to cut down on the sanding of the Bondo. Might want to invest or ask a sponsor for a portable vacuum system that would significantly reduce the amount of dust from sanding the Bondo. You guys completed a lot of work that wore out this arm chair critic. Good job.
