I wanted to go to Nigeria but I hear alot about bribes. Thats scary for tourists because we come to spend money not getting robbed.

I'm telling you, and it's so embedded in the fabric of the system to the point that one can not get ahead without bribing. Sometimes, one even does it without thinking because it's such a normal thing. You try to be upfront and loyal. People begin to hate you and think you're up to something. If you tell people you tried doing ABC, they say, "Why don't you just pay something small?" Bribing in Africa is almost like a part of the culture. It makes me want to cry

I am glad Wode refused to pay the bribe. The only way Africa is going to move forward is when WE all do our small bits. The immigration officers at the borders will stop asking when WE all refuse to give bribes no matter how inconvenient this may be for travels.

I wonder how much of this we would still face if people were paid on time and rewarded for good, honest, hard work. I do everything I can to pay my laborers on time and what we agreed and it is reflected in their output and consistency. I'm from Benue State and I think this could scale up to larger more populated places in the country.

I love your channel. Im Mexican, with US citizenship. I’m going to Abuja, Nigeria then onto Lagos. My own country depending on where u go, can be dangerous. Things have come a long way since the 70’s before so much foreign investment came to my country and few ppl saw it as a tourist destination. But just to travel to Nigeria, my travel visa cost almost $1000. This is extremely expensive and will discourage future travel to go again. When I was younger, we paid bribes to Mexican police and it was just an accepted hurdle we all knew we would have to tolerate. But $1000 makes me sad for ppl who live in Nigeria and cannot afford to travel outside. Passports are not cheap, let alone flights and the many hurdles they must face. I never knew how many hurdles there were for African ppl to travel to other continents due to their passports restricting travel. It made me angry and sad. 🙏🏽much love and respect to u❤️

Sam Friedman of FXT scammed people of $10 billion under the guise of cryptocurrency deals. In both instances, the American security and justice systems neither nipped them in their bud nor punished the conmen adequately. The two Americans scammers wreaked havoc equivalent to the GDP of Ghana 🇬🇭 and no one went to town with the vuvuzelaa of 'beware of scammers in the USA'.
You gleefully rubbished 54 countries because of reckless Americans who failed to conduct due diligence. There are hundreds of Americans who own properties in various countries in Africa and they never had scam issues. Scam is scam irrespective of geography.

When I visited countries on the continent. I saw whose running your grocery stores, pharmacies and other major businesses that are foreigners and more are being encouraged to go...not for no safari's. You need to ask yourselves, why.

It is Extortion. I have been stopped a few times while in my uber at check points and we had to basically give them money not to be hassled. It happened at the airport too... luggage or customs ...

I traveled from Nigeria last month, through the Land border to Cote D'Ivoire, Liberia and Freetown Sierra Leone for tourism.I cross all the Land borders.
Frankly, I have some bitter experiences than Wodemaya.Particulary the Liberian borders are not safe at all.(Except for the Bo water side)
Liberia immigration official are extrotional.

I am following this debate from Mauritius and my first feeling is disappointment. I am disappointed because this issue of asking for bribes in Africa is affecting badly the narrative about the countries on the continent and also affecting their economies. Sadly the authority responsible for this service is not doing their job well. You CZcamsrs should all have a conversation with the SG of the AfCFTA which is in Accra to have the matter raised at the highest level to get things done. How do we move forward if we do not implement what the AfCFTA has been set for, free movement of people and goods.

Sassy, do you think you can send the video from Wode Maya's experience at the border to the minister of tourism in Togo. Also, one person complained about being stopped 52 times before they left Nigeria going to Benin, something that needs to be looked into, especially if they want people to visit their country.
Body camera for yourself, security cameras in airports, etc., employment dismissal and prosecution for extortion!

Being of African descent, I would rather go to South America, South East Asia and Eastern Europe as oppose to Africa because my own people are my worst enemy! Border patrol, police, customs all want BRIBES! The locals also want to over charge and exploit blacks from the DIASPORA!! NOTHING GETS DONE ABOUT IT! It seems like the Motherland will cater to the Chinese and the Europeans before they embrace us from the Diaspora. SMH! Do not get me wrong. I admire Wode Maya and what he's trying to do, but the rest countries don't care! No other African CZcamsr is speaking out on these things!!
Wow I had no idea border crossing in West Africa can be this sloppy. I did cross the Togo-Ghana border some years back by road (was told this was the next best plan to catch my reschedule flight to the U.S. after missing my afternoon flight the day before) to board a flight to the U.S. from Gnassingebe Nyadema airport. I had no problem doing so other than the soldier at the border did not stamp my passport as he was supposed to. This bullying at the borders there in West Africa though is a very strange phenomenon, I say, because crossing borders in the East Africa and Southern Africa Development Community is seamless. What I am trying to say here is we as black people should not be panalized at any African boarders or airports if we provide all the correct documents that the country asked for and we did not commit any crimes.

A lot of times nationalists are condemned by the reputation of the whole. Some years back while in Kenya, a Kikuyu woman told me that West Africans like stealing ids and peddling fake documents. And that West Africans have bad reputations. Remind you this woman has never traveled to any West African nation. But I am sure she was capable of doing so since she was a manager there at the mall, and once owned a flower shop. (Kenya is internationally known for producing some of the world's most beautifulest and robust roses). While in Mzansi last year, a Pedi [same tribe as Julius Malema] woman whom I had befriended told me that Nigerians were responsible for the importation of drugs into her country {a Congolese taxi driver told me this as well while in Mzansi}. And this is why South Africans are committing all those crimes in the country. I personally had never encountered a Nigerian that was trafficking in illegal substances during my length long stay in Pretoria and Johannesburg. As a matter of fact, the one Nigerian male I did meet gave me a taxi ride to the mall free of charge. (To this day I still do not know why he did not charge me) We had a substantive conversation during the ride. Nearly ten years ago when I first arrived in Kenya, I shared a three-bedroom apartment with a Ghanaian who was in his late twenties and Muslim. [We did not know one another; this apartment was treated like a guesthouse]. In the course of my stay with him a local Kenyan woman had become angry with him for some reason and decided she would tell me that he was trafficking women. She shared this with me while he was standing in the living room with us. But he said nothing in response. A week later he checked out of the apartment. I was compelled to believe her when one early morning {about 06:00 hours }{By the way, sharing a place is something I never did again because of the unscrupulous individuals that oftentimes stay in shared spaces like shared dwelling units and hostels. I merely was excited about meeting new Black people on the continent of Africa, because it was my first time on the continent of Africa. But little did I know at the time, that these were not the type of continental Black people I was interested in meeting. So from that experience on I ceased staying in shared dwellings. Unless she's my friend in Tanzania who runs a hospitality business.}
My point here is it is quite alright to give our leaders their credit when that credit is deserving. It is not healthy for both the leaders and the constituents they serve when we as the constituents are in constant bashing mode of our leaders. I take it that you have never crossed the Zambia-Botswana border. Well doing so is almost in the category of 'things you want to do list'. This border bridge-crossing is absolutely stunning and well maintained with orderliness. Although not as visually captivating, the Tanzania-Rwanda and Botswana-South Africa border crossings are very orderly as well. I can go on and on. Remember our leaders are serving at the highest level of diplomacy and are in the face of famous and infamous leaders from around the world, attempting to maneuver through the deceptions while trying to secure the bag, as best their skills set will allow. The best advice I would give to you regarding improving upon the border chaos that has beset West African nations, is to muster yourselves together in large numbers and "study to show yourselves approved." From what I know now and have encountered, Black people on the continent of Africa can oftentimes prefer intellectual laziness and heavy dependency on the goodwill of their leaders. But I say, with a little unified effort to study within the political, health and academic cares that brings about the greatest of complaints. Is the perfect first step on the road to changing things in West African nations for the better. What Africa needs is for the masses to form a parallel government. By the way, you mentioned something about Uganda. When I spoke at a Ugandan youth meeting some years back, I said the exact same thing to them (forming a parallel government). Word of this got back to the Ugandan government and the Ugandan immigration officials decided not to extend my visa. Will I go back to Uganda of course. I love Ugandan people for their sheer Ugandan pride and no nonsense stances. But I will go back armed with the knowledge that Ugandan officials do not accept such talk about their governmental performance from non Ugandans. And guess what, I do not feel a certain kind of way toward the Ugandan government, and nor do I feel the Ugandan immigration official was wrong for denying my request for a visa extension. Some times as the constituents we must understand that nations are sovereign in their own right and not leap to the conclusion that every nation has patterned their governmental policies, likened unto that of say some western nation. There are subtle distinctions.
Addendum: 'I was compelled to believe her when one early morning {about 06:00 hours } I rose to make some coffee and went into the living room and saw this same Ghanaian guy taking a picture of a different Kenyan woman who he had stretched out on the sofa. After he took the photo she left the apartment.
Another very important question are their immigration officers resulting to bribe cause they not paid well by the governments
Every African youtubers inafrica must unite and move with one heart to break the borders in each African countries, let people move freely and build up one currency, one military, one Swahili language.

How about inside Ghana, did you see the way Ghanaian police are extorting Nigerians taking bribe from them on the highway. They see Nigerians over there as money making machine for them to extort. Talk to them about it, they need to change that attitude towards Nigeria and also stop closing Nigeria stores and stealing their goods. Just start that preaching at home first then it will spread like wide fire to other Africans.

I have been through several airports around the world. When it comes to police and immigration, few countries top Nigeria. There are several Nigerian bloggers in Ghana. If it is that bad, they would have brought it up. Some of the reasons the Nigerians cite about living in Ghana are safety and official harassment. The Corruption Perception lndex has just been published. Only 5 African countries rank below Nigeria (150th). Let's call a spade a spade. Nigeria may be better than Ghana in many indices but police and immigration corruption are not one of them!
@@frankbediako1372 Kenneth Nwache, a Nigerian was in Ghana brought up so many bad things police are doing to Nigerians and landlord and how some Ghanaians broke into his home to steal his laptops and handsets and threaten to kill him if he makes noise. When he did videos of it, fellow Ghanaians called police on him and say he’s tarnishing the image of Ghana and start telling him to go back to Nigeria because they hate truth. Oh comes those evil comments in the comments sections of any Nigerian that dear say their trust of what some evil Ghanaians are doing to Nigerians. You always want to protect stupid images and damage someone. The guy left Ghana because of evils over there. So you guys should try and treat the corruption in your country and discrimination before coming outside. Many Nigerians lady who does CZcams any time they say their truth you all rush in their to harass them, so they have no option than to praise you guys even if they are dying inside. And you are aware of these very well you might even be among them put keep pretending as always.

I have never seen this in my cou try and I am in Africa. You just cross the border as long your papers are in order. I am in Southern Africa by the way.
Bribery issues aside to some extend as a pass by you are not save.Terrible immigration officials.Please let's be careful traving through land borders
Appreciate you sis for sharing this video, What I believe Africa lacks is correct leadership I never been to the continent myself but I am definitely coming to see how I can contribute thoughts and ideas for a better way of living. check points and borders need to be removed, black diasporans need to fully detox from all negative ways and habits before coming and study the language to better communicate. If you guys can take the time out to learn english (which is actually a broken language smh🤦🏾♂) why cant we take and use the time that we waste to master your languages. Unity needs to happen who knows what we can accomplish if Black diasporans and Local Africans work together and collaborate, Africa also needs to shut down its resources from the US and other colonizing countries, keep it and use it for a better way of sustainability and organic homes and architecture. The things we have to endure here in the states are ridiculous which is why I'm considering a repatriation without a doubt, and I'm sure there is things Africans have to endure all the same which can be changed but this all falls down with how we can work with one another.

Are these countries doing that well economically that they can afford to play these stupid games?
I think in Africa you get criticize for doing the right thing. Ironically those doing the wrong thing are seen to be doing the right thing. What a continent. We have a long way to go. When I was in Ghana last year I chose never to pay any bribe and I don't think I will ever do that. I will rather pay tip than to pay bribe.
