The everywoman story of a girl's first time putting a tampon in.
Natalie is a 20-year-old girl who has never used a tampon. When she gets her period before a family trip to the beach, she decides it’s time to finally make it happen. She enlists help from her mom and younger sister, but to her dismay has no luck. Determined, Natalie attempts to tackle the task on her own, resorting to CZcams videos and indecipherable instructions… but she struggles with discomfort, fear, and a general lack of knowledge about her body, leaving her exasperated. Will Natalie be able to meet her goal? And why is she so set on doing it right now? Will her family be any help, or will she be forced to face herself all alone?

Girls, I am 31 and I just stopped using tampons. They are wrapped in lots of plastic, they are full of chemicals, they can cause TSS. Why should we ladies do this?? I just found a nice little store that produces handmade pads with lovely patterns. I love them. You feel clean, it keeps you healthy, it doesn't hurt, it's super soft, it's good for the environment, you can use them again and again so you first spend more money but then you save a lot.
When I was in school there was a lot of period pressure too. I remember a day when we had to go swimming with the class and I told the teacher that I cannot go into the water today because of my period. She and another student just harshly said 'Plug in a damned tampon and jump in'. Still I didn't do it because I thought it's not their business which products I use for my period. And honestly, it doesn't matter if you are 10 or 20 and never tried a tampon. Don't feel bad about it! You can use whatever you want and there are really good reasons for not using tampons at all.
yes exactly, a person who knows! Someone I know got a really bad infection and could’ve got way worse if she kept on using tampons. They are so unhealthy and pads are so more comfortable too. They honestly scare me 😂
this is so me.😭 i’m only 15 but i feel the need to know how to put on a tampon bc all my friends do, it’s just another peer pressure situation, this was funny tho❤😂

My first tampon story:
I was 13 and at Disney world(how magical) we were spending the whole next day at the water park and I really didn’t want to miss out on it! The night before I wasted 2 tampons trying and it hurt really bad and I cried!! The next morning my family was rushing me to hurry up in the bathroom so I tried to relax and I went for it. I got it in no problem and I felt accomplished! Although later when I took it out I was not expecting it to hurt!!! I don’t mind wearing tampons I just hate taking them out!! Tips: relax!!! It won’t go in unless you have no tension and are relaxed!! Try new positions try sitting on the edge of the toilet, standing, squatting, one leg up, whatever’s comfortable!! You don’t have to use tampons too that’s totally ok they’re not for everyone!!! I want to be a mom someday and if I can barely get through taking out a tampon I have no idea how I’ll get a whole baby out of me!!! Anyways hope you loved my little story!!
My sister had only had her period for two years before she got pregnant, she started at 12 and a half, and at age fourteen, she was pregnant. And now she is 25 and has five kids.

I started wearing tampons at 13 and was using cups and discs by 16 and I will never go back to pads. But…I never learned any of this from a family member I had to get all of my info from the internet. It sucks how everyone is still so scared to talk about it.
I feel so bad for Natalie and I think this is an amazing film that talks about something period-related that isn't just about getting your first period. most period short films don't talk about how people actually handle it after realizing it's their period. I'm so scared of tampons or literally anything that involves inserting so thank you so much for this video
I completely relate to Natalie. In fact I am almost 40 and I wear pads. Granted they are the ultra thin ones so, it is okay for me. But, I remember being about 14 and I got mom to buy a box of tampons for me. Mom was convinced that I wasn't going to like them but, she got them for me anyway. So, there I was 14 years old spread egal in the bathroom trying to put a tampon in. I must have tried like 8 or 10 tampons out of the box lol! By the end I was hurting, I was frstrated and I was done with the whole thing. Every time I even think about trying tampons again I think about that day and any desire to use them goes straight out the window.

I find this video really nice cause it’s a perspective I never really took into account. I used a tampon without an applicator for my very first period and I’ve always felt uncomfortable about it. Like I was gross for using a tampon during my very first. I realize now though that everybody moves at different rates.

I feel this, I’m 21 and have still never used one 😂 even after losing my virginity I’m still scared of like getting it stuck in there or something. Just know that it’s okay to take everything at your own pace and you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to or don’t feel comfortable with yet. I used to be scared of going to the gyno but now I’ve been to a couple different ones and I’m doing great cause it’s a step I needed to take eventually 🖤

Nothing wrong with that! I am 39 and I still use pads too. A lot of people choose pads over tampons. No one else needs to know what is going on down in your underpants. There is no need to feel pressured into wearing a cup or a tampon if you don't want something up inside of you. Using a pad is perfectly natural and fine.

I got my period at 11 and I really wanted to use tampons because it’s “cooler” so at 12 I tried and I succeeded but I didn’t like it. Im now 15 and still use pads 😅
this helped me a lot actually i've never been able to use a tampon and I thought small was the smallest size!
I had used tampons starting in about 8th grade, and they were sooooooo much better than the cheapie pads that mom would buy. She refused to buy the "good" pads with wings, and I had soooooo many embarrassing period incidents in school as a result. Those were a game changer for me back in the day. Now, I use period underwear as back up to my reusable menstrual disk.

Right? Lol CZcams didn't even exist yet when I had my first experience with a tampon @ 15yo. I had to ask my friends mom how to put one in 😂😂😂 As a mom now myself I made sure my daughter was fully prepared and made sure she knew she could always come to me for help and advice. Open and honest judgement free communication is the key.

As someone who never had trouble with tampons, It’s interesting to see ppl struggle.
When I first tried it was like my 3rd period and it was awful, I love them now and use them all the time just keep trying, it took me like 2 periods to get used to it.
I feel like it’s normal for people, not wanting to use the tampon. But even before I got my first period, I did not want to use pets at all. I had a lot of sensory issues and hated wearing clothes and underwear. But then the idea of having something else touching me, push me over the edge. So when I got my period I was going paddle boarding for the entire day and my mom gave me the option. Do you wanna use a tampon or do you want to not go and I was like give me the tampon. But I had read all the books and everything so I already knew how to put it in so she didn’t need to help me. And I’ve had my period for three years and I’m 14 and now using cups, which helped me because my flow is very heavy.

Hay girls! Here’s a tip I figured out. When I put my first tampon in I had to lay down in bed. It’s easier for your first time I think. Just go eagle speed knees bent deep breath’s clean hands. Then put it in towards your back. And you can’t put it in the wrong hole. Remember it’s normal and it’s fine to talk with somebody about it.

use a tampon isn't that hard it super easy i done it before just make sure the tampon isn't in deep or it will get stuck never lose track of the string but for beginners use a pad until you feel your ready for a tampon i didn't use a tampon until i was 18th

I live in a place where periods are a open thing, but my house growing up wasn't my mum never told me and I thought I was dying when it happened, she supplied me with tampons and pads told me last a few days and repeated every month thats it. I had to learn to use tampons stright away as had swimming sport the next day learn from the box (didn't have internet). As my mum never talked about it before I didn't talk about it to any one, I was the first among my friends. Thank God for good education about 2 months after my primary school did weekly classes on it had a specialist. It was for everyone boy, girl, puberty everything I was so lucky. She took the girl aside had explained tampons pad everything.
I'm now able to easily talk to friends. My partner has many women friends and was offen in the middle of there periods conversation, made him completely comfortable and open about it.
I may have had a hard start but its easy and open now.

Besides producing huge amounts of waste...why do they do this? It must be so much harder to insert it the right way, getting the angle correct and everything with this long plastic stick. If you use your finger you can feel und coordinate so much better what you are doing...
The only reason I can think of ist, because poeple are so disgusted with their own bodys and having this taboo about menstruation blood, like you're cursed if you touch ist...?
I mean, you wouldn't consider it a good idea to applicate pads with big tweezers only, wouldn't you?
(Nice movie though. The only thing that really bothers me ist that these video specialist tells this old fairytale of the hymen that might get injured... Today it's known that there is no such thing as a hymen.)
