Incredibly important. Period poverty is present all over the world, in both developed and developing countries. I'm working on compiling research to do a study in my city in the U.S. on the level of unmet need present with regards to obtaining menstrual products. At least within the States, there seems to be very little research on menstrual poverty and initiatives developed to address the issue.

When I was in my puberty my mom gave me pieces of white cotton clothes to use and reuse it after washing with soap, though we are not a very poor family but the concept of pads were not so clear and even not available at that time.

I feel bad for her because she is trying to make me feel like someone special as I get my period. She went through a tough time when she was younger and got her period. She never got to get pads from her mom so she had to get some for herself, and she would leak a lot without her mom getting her pads. It was so sad to hear that from my mom and I asked her in Target one day if she was going to get some pads and stuff for her cylce cause she had gotten me liners. She disagreed and said "I just have to work with what I have." I was so sad inside and i wish I had the money to get her some (in which I have 70 dollars etc with coins). I may get her some, when I get my period, bring my wallet so she can buy mine and I get give her money for hers! I'd do anything for my mom to see her happy.

Packets of sanitary towels are as little as 30 and good quality ones are as little as 50p. How come the girl in the video has a phone (which probably is on a contract, nice jewellery) and a very nicely decorated bedroom, but, apparently cannot afford under a pound a month for sanitary wear?
The issue is poor budgeting of the adults, but, we aren't allowed to talk about that are we. Why am I so cynical? Being brought up in a single parent family on benefits with a mother, sister and myself all having periods and yet, I cannot ever recall going without STs, they were considered more essential than jewellery, make up and most other things that we wanted, those things came when we got ourselves a Saturday job, but, didn't need and there were lots of working class families who paid for the necessities first and anything that may have been left over went on nice, but, not vital things. Ask any woman over 40 if she ever went without sanitary towels or tampons growing up and the answer will be 'no' and the irony is that they are cheaper now in real terms than when I was growing up.
Period poverty is a myth, it's people not wanting to pay for the boring stuff and conning good hearted people into paying for it instead.

Not sure about you, but over here in America pads can be around $4 to $8. The heavier your period, the more pads you'll have to buy and the bigger the pads need to be.

What shocked me was the use of reusable underwears. Instead, you can use any old cotton cloth at home, with your normal underwear and use it during periods. Wash it and reuse it. As simple as that. Why would this cause period poverty. The solution is v simple.!

She has money for jewelry but not basic needs ? Gold earrings, gold necklace but no tampons , that's not a poverty problem that's a money management problem.
