  • Broelo, an artificial stone veneer, was founded by Chidera and his partner. Coming into The Den for a N20 million investment in exchange for a 7.5% stake in their business, it soon becomes clear that they need some more building to do.

    I hope any future entrepreneur realizes that it's okay to take salary.

    • @bob-manuel
      @bob-manuel Před 2 lety +5

      Yes it's okay to take a salary but if you've ever looked into the world of finance either because you study a course relating to it or just because you love it, you'll quickly learn that it's advisable to put as much money as you can back into the business. It's basically the same reason investors don't liquidate their investments unless there is a real need to do so (either because it's doing poorly or they really need the cash) to cut the long story short you put everything back into the business to ensure it grows rapidly and becomes sustainable before you pay yourself. Taking a salary at the early stages is still okay but it's very easy to be tempted to take an amount of money that can either slow the growth of the business or even kill it.
      edit: There's also the added benefit of investors seeing you as someone who's working very hard to ensure the success of the business when you pay yourself little to no salary from the business (although I personally don't think it even matters that much to investors but I pointed it out cause it seems to matter to the Lions here)

    I run similar business and I got some interesting investors that we did the job for but insisted they should wait since the business is still at an early stage. There's a lot to learn when your business is at an early stage putting back every profit into the business is safer than any thing. I wish them well.

    Even if you didn't start your business, it doesn't mean invester can't invest in your project or it doesn't mean you can't make Billion later! Judges are judgemental!

    Each time they say too early, does that mean it is not investable? If you see a potential in something, investable in it except you have your reservations. Anyway, it's not my money.

    The should bootstrap the business and grow it by themselves. They don't need the dragons. The Dragons are looking for ready made businesses instead of trying to help these young guys grow.
