      I am facing a few issues with this, when I click create, the dots appear on half for the underlying circle, also in a rectangle, it doesn't go till the end border of the rectangle, but ends a little before, that messes up the final size of the image. What am I doing wrong?

    • @IronEchoDesign
      @IronEchoDesign  Před 2 lety

      Thanks, and let's solve this. If the dots appear on half the circle or they don't fill up the whole rectangle, I'm guessing it's a scale issue. Two methods that could fix this. First, you could try making the original object that gets cloned bigger. That may change the overall look though. The better solution might be to increase the Rows x Columns numbers. This will help fill up the underlying shapes. Can you let me know if either of these (or a combination) work? Thanks again!

    I'm really looking for a tutorial like this, thank you very much, your video is very helpful. I've tried like in the video but why when I duplicate there is always a gap between groups?

    • @IronEchoDesign
      @IronEchoDesign  Před rokem +1

      Thanks! Yes the gap shows up often. Inkscape actually added a new feature that makes these patterns much easier to create. It’s under Path Effects and it’s called Tiling. You removes gaps (or make them) with easy controls. I should do a video on it if I can think of something good to show.

  • @nikkihstokes
    @nikkihstokes Před rokem +1

    This is really helpful, thank you. I'm binge-watching your tutorials at the moment, and learning so much about the potential and power of Inkscape for creating art that I never even realised existed.
    Do you know of a way to turn a watercolour effect into a halftone, but with the dots changing colour over the image to match the watercolour design?
    I'm asking because I want to create watercolour designs to print on t-shirts, and DTG (direct to garment) printing doesn't handle transparency, which is rife in digital watercolour effects. So I was thinking that if I could convert my watercolour wash designs that I'm creating using Inkscape into halftones, that would be ideal.
    I'd love to see a tutorial on this if you know of way, or even just a pointer on how to use the Create Tiled Clones to achieve this result.
    Thanks again for all of your great content!

    • @IronEchoDesign
      @IronEchoDesign  Před rokem +1

      Thank you so much! Turning watercolor to halftime for DTG printing is a great idea to solve the transparency challenge. My instinct is to try Create Tiled Clones and go to the Trace Tab. You’d have to set the original clone objects colors to Undefined ( it’s the question mark icon in the Full and Stroke menu. Then you could set the Clone Trace to underlying image. There must be an easier way however.

    • @nikkihstokes
      @nikkihstokes Před rokem +1

      @@IronEchoDesign I might have found a way, although I don't know if it's the best way. It looks like you can't trace by both opacity and colour at the same time in Inkscape. So I did one set of clones with size based on opacity, then a second set with colour based on colour (with the exact same number of rows and columns), and then used the opacity clones to mask the colour clones.
      I've only tested this on a small scale, but I think it might just work. Not sure if I have the processing power to do it on a large image though!
