I remember someone complaining all Ultraman looks too same and hoped they get more diverse with the design, like how Belial did. I'm just hoping that guy is happy Geed's created now.

Since joneus is an anime exclusive ultra, trying to adapt it into live action is gonna be hard. Also gaia has a cool design, it's simple, and slick especially when he gets his V2 form

Nexus's head is actually based on Samurai's helmet. So while you don't exactly get the same comparison, Star Wars is a pretty close call because lots of design in it is kinda derived from Samurai (Darth Vader, Stormtrooper etc) lol
The original Ultraman and Seven were designed by Tohl Narita, who also designed many of the series' most famous kaiju, like Alien Baltan, Zetton, Gomora and Eleking.
Ultraman was always meant to look like he's smiling, since Narita took inspiration from statues of gods, which had serene smiles to emphasize their power and mystery; he referred to this term as an “archaic smile”. Narita had the tall, lean proportions of suit actor Bin Furuya in mind when designing Ultraman, and was disappointed when Furuya wasn't picked for the suit actor of Seven.
Seven's chainmail-like armor and the lines on his legs were attempts by Narita to offset the proportions of the suit actor, who he felt was too stocky and squat. The silver lines elongate his legs, whilst the dense detailing on the armor draws attention to his upper body, which overall visually stretches the proportions.
The reason why Ace has earlobes is because he's based off Buddhist statues, specifically Guanyin. The design was meant to be that of an alien that transcended the concept of gender, so Ace has both masculine and feminine aspects in his design; his head looks a bit like a gladiator's helmet, and the red markings on his thighs also look a bit like a garterbelt.

Extra little tidbit relating to that last one: Buddhist statues also influenced Yullian, who also has earlobes.
Both forms of Ultraman The Next are my favorite forms. It feels very Alien or out of this world from the design to the gritty look weathering he has.
A good rule of thumb is that generally the main Ultraman are the Ultraman that are shown in the main series title...For example (Ultraman Taiga's the main ultra despite having 2 more ultras in the show).

I can feel the hate comment towards your oppinion on leo, leo suit is ment to represent a martial artist but since there were no yellow collored ultraman, tsuburaya chose to follow the original colour scheme. Im refering to bruce lee btw😂 ya'know the iconic yellow suit
I like Tiga's design.
Multi type is has nice colors and his slender form is my personal preference.
I always thought Orb base form wasn't the origin form, but the Specium Zepperion one because he always tend to use that form first before transforming to other form.
Origin form whilst it was his original basic form, because in the series he need secondary device which in case were the origin sword to transform into, that was his final form. And the trinity form was just a special final form because it's movie exclusive and never mentioned through out tv show..

I feel sorry for Taiga
In terms of Showa, my top 3 have to Seven, Joeneus, and Taro. I love the classic non yellow eyes but the yellow eyed Ultraman hit different.
Leo is my personal favourite of the Ultra Brothers, but that's less for his design and more because he's a bare-knuckle badass. That said, I think his difference in design compared to the other UBs works since he and his brother are supposed to be from an entirely different galaxy than them

Leo is my favourite Showa Ultra.
Tell you what. Because I want to see your part 2 before saying my favorite ultra base form, I’m just going to comment on my views on the Ultramen that are in this part.
Yes, this is your opinion, and I’m not saying that you are wrong for being different, because the surprise of seeing people thinking differently is always a thrilling thing. But what’s stopping me from saying what I feel, right?
-Leo: Personally, I really like Leo’s appearance. Because of the certain elements like the rough protector, cross horns, and the eyes, it gives off this tough and brutish feel. And hey, I don’t know why, but the sign on his torso was cool. I would put him way higher.
-Joneus: I won’t deny that the head sculpture looks awkward. However, the overall suit stands out like a great warrior, probably because of the primary coloring of red. And because he’s an ultra from a different planet, I think these differences help out with differentiating Joneus from the usual ultras. I would put him higher.
-80: One of my least favorites, but just because I say that doesn’t mean his appearance is awful. The coloration of red and silver is unique and the head design has this weird, yet nice feeling. At the same time, there are just other designs that look better than his. I don’t dislike it, but he does feel somewhat abnormal why compared to the other shows ultras. Your placement is about the same place as mine.
-Taiga: Another one of my least favorite, yet nice-looking designs. Other aspects of Taiga such as his head and heck, the protector (minus the blue coloring), and even the silver looks nice. But I will say that he could have used more red and the protector could have looked different, plus I’m not a fan of the gloves and boot detailing on Taiga. I will put Taiga a little higher, but not to the midway point.
-Titas: A muscular looking Ultraman, heck yes! The black of Titans looks great (I also love how relevant that black coloring is to his backstory), and hey, the width of Titas doesn’t bother me as much. I think I may put Titas a little higher as well.
-Ace: Honestly, Ace’s design is mixed for me. Some elements like his crest (especially the ultra hole and ultra star detail) looks good and heck, the sculpting around the color timer looks unique too. But at the same time, I never really saw Ace’s design as something that I love. It’s just a good Ultraman suit, but nothing more. Ace probably is around the same spot you put him in.
-Powered: I’m not really that big of a fan of Powered’s look. The only thing that really stands out are the blue eyes (which I think look good). Other than that, I’m not a fan of lining nor the rim of his color timer. I would put him lower on my list.
Jack: When I was younger, Jack’s suit was always a stand out for me. I don’t know why the lining and the sliver color looked pretty great. While I still like Jack’s suit, my view on him has admittedly decreased. I would put him over Ultraman, but not any higher.
-Ultraman: The first ever suit. For the time, it looks great, and to this day, it’s still such an iconic figure. However, other Ultraman suits following show off better designs. A simple yet great design, but also nothing else worth saying. I would place him in the same placement as yours
-Zoffy: The only real change that Zoffy has are the Star Marks, yet just those tiny details make him stand out more from the other suits. Especially when you pair him with the brothers mantle, Zoffy looks grand. But like Ultraman and Jack, there’s nothing else worth noting, but it’s due to this simplicity that those three ultras looks great. I would say Zoffy should be only slightly higher.
-Great: I’m going to be honest. Like Powered, I’m not a fan of Great. The henshin device as the color timer is a neat detail, and the usage of white and not silver is cool, but I don’t know. When I see Great, he doesn’t look great as the other ultras. I would put Great lower.
-Neos: I can see what you are going with Neos. While the strange symmetry of the red and silver add to the design, I still prefer a suit such as Zoffy or Jack who have a more uniform design. Neos has a good suit though. I would put him lower than Zoffy and Jack, but higher than Ultraman.
-And sure, I guess I will mention the honorable Ultraman Ribut. Very similar thoughts to how I feel with Ribut to Neos. However, I think the line symmetry on Ribut flows much better than Neos. Plus, the additional g-crystals also enhance his appearance. Put him around the ranks of Zoffy and Jack.
-Dyna: First of all, how dare you compare Dyna to the toothpaste I use on a daily basis. Second (jokes aside), Dyna’s design is certainly a unique one. I don’t know why, but the blue and silver really makes Dyna look very cool and dynamic, and the yellowish protector also helps out with his appearance. At the same, while I’m not really phased by it, the connection between the red and blue do feel somewhat awkward, and the head sculpting is not one of my favorites. I’d say his placement he is where I would place him.
-Nexus: He’s certainly a different looking ultra, but it’s that difference that makes him look so cool. The primary coloration of silver and gray just mix so well, and the shape of his energy core looks great as well. Even the head, while it could be better, still enhances the different nature of this ultra. I would definitely put him higher.
-Cosmos: Something about Cosmos’s design just feels sleek. The usage of blue as the main color looks amazing the how the silver lines flow on the body enhance this suit quite well. I will probably keep Cosmos in the same placement as you, but this is a great suit for sure.
-Tiga: Another iconic suit. I do agree that Tiga’s usage of mixing purple and red looks better than how Dyna was doing it and the protector has this powerful feel. Nothing else to say other than Tiga is such an iconic design, and for the most part, rightfully so. I would put him around the same area too.
-Zero: Quite a controversial character among the fans. Personally, I love Zero’s design. He feels like a combination of a red tribe and blue tribe ultra, and the way the colors mix, as well as how the silver lines connect those colors looks cool. Not just that, but the nods to his father that are present in the suit (protector, beam lamp, and especially the Zero Sluggers), make him look so unique compared to the other ultras while at the same time, connecting him to his father’s appearance. I would put Zero much higher on my list, and for those that are going to hate me, I will even say that Zero looks better than Ultraseven.
Seven: Just because I said I prefer Zero’s suit over Seven doesn’t mean I don’t like his appearance, because it’s most certainly the opposite. I love how different Seven looks from the original Ultraman. He has so much more going on like the protector, the beam lamp, and Eye Slugger, and at the same time, he’s also a simple design, and that combination between complexity and simplicity makes Seven one of the best looking ultras. So far your placement is the same as mine, but it may change.
So that is what I think of those ultras. When your part 2 is out, that’s when I will say who my favorite ultra design is.

Took a bit of thinking and looking at all the Ultramen but I’m gonna half to say Ultraman Ginga is my favorite it’s a simple design yet stands out compared to the others plus it has a good amount of blue which is my favorite color
I love Ultraman Nexus, Ginga, Orb and Geed's design. I just really love their design expecially Orb and Nexus

My favourite is Taiga. It's like Taro but more modern and the armor looks cool too. (If not counting base forms or main Ultra's then Titas and Photon Earth are also badass.)

Also, give Joneus some credit. It was a suit based on the FIRST animated Ultraman.
I think Ribut is the 1st based on animation Ultraman (3d animation to be precise). But yeah based on 2d Joneus is the 1st

I know it's your ranking but I think you under ranked Nexus a bit lower cause seemingly he has one of the best suit designs in the franchise and he should be in at least under top 10 or 15.
Btw ultraman joneus has an animated version on tv before ( just so you know), and i kinda prefer the animated one because the live action one kinda looks like he has a big fore head

Ultraman Leo and Astra (they are brothers) are technically not an official Ultra since they came from a different planet. but they have been inducted into the Ultraman ranks by King of Ultra.
That doesn't make them unofficial in terms of the Ultraman franchise

It would’ve been too easy to place 80 at the very bottom
The problem is tradition, they just usually reproduce the crested "gray alien"-like look of the original Ultraman with different stripes. Not much space for redesign there, but they do try. So I like designs that add a bit more to the character, or sometimes try to really depart from the original.
Best ones I like in overall design are Z and X, with some technological looks. Geed is my favorite series, and his primitive design is the best-looking among those that just continue the original Ultraman. Mebius also in this department.
When it comes to departures, I like Leo's head. Yes, the head, because I agree that the suit is dull, but I like Leo's head crown, unusual and complex. If I would invent my own Ultraman, I'll use Leo's head as a basis.
Aside from that, I like Nexus' head too, German stahlhelm-like look, while Ultraseven and Ace have that Greco-Roman helmet appeal. Also on departures, Xenon and R/B.
Adding: The new Decker form is pretty nice too, with some Kamen Rider Kuuga (head diadem) and Agito (double sword)-like stuff

Leo should not be last, as some Ultraman's designs are not as good looking as Leo's, he looks like a lonely samurai protecting the only thing he had left after the tragedy of his home planet and his brother missing. The planet that accepted him as who he was, Earth.
