The Auschwitz concentration camp complex was the biggest of all the concentration and extermination camps during World War II. It is situated in southern Poland which was occupied by Nazi Germany at the time. It is estimated that 1.1 of the 1.3 million Jews, Poles, gypsies and war prisoners who went through Auschwitz's gates were murdered.
