Hey Guys,
If anyone faces a Blackbox issue on icons after restart then try the below method
👉👉👉 czcams.com/video/6ydj6yFfij8/video.html
Thank you everyone 👍👍👍👍
Is there any similar method to hide text on files/folders that can be found on the desktop?
This is actually incorrect - at least in Windows 11. If you follow the instructions and put the "-50" on the end, you get a black box where the arrow used to be. Per Microsoft, if you just use "50" (without the minus sign), it will create a transparent area, not a black area, which is what we're all looking for. Hope this helps!
Works fine for me but it reset when i updated my pc today
worked for me on win 11
-50 worked fine for me
Sweet thanks for the fix. I cut my laptop off and then back on, then there was black. so I took off the minus and yup now good lol
Yup mine turned into black boxes lol, thanks for the help
I did this and it worked like a charm until I had to reboot. After reboot where there were once arrows were now black boxes that were almost as large as the icons themselves. I tried to restart Explorer but to no avail so I just went into the registry and deleted what I created. All is back to normal now and I'm happier with the arrows rather than this "fix." Sorry, but this didn't work too well for me.
I will check
You tried in laptop or pc
@@TechNtechh Laptop.
Ok I'll check
I done with desktop
Well, let try in laptop
@@TechNtechh I've had the same issue, I am on window 11, using a Lenovo Legion 5 laptop.
Will update soon, guys
What a simple and easy tutorial with the desired results great work man!
Yep, most tutorials are either confusing or don't bring the results.
To fix black boxes for windows 11:
Set value of 29 in the registry (watch the video if you havn't) to a blank value, then restart explorer from task manager
Works for Windows 10 as well!
Worked for me on Windows 11 (version 21H2), thank you!!
It doesn't allow me to set 29 to a blank value. I tried setting it to a space but it didn't work.
@@rezapanahi553 there is also an application to do this for you it is called winareo tweaker
@ThatOne How do you set it to a blank value?
ACTUAL FIX FOR WINDOWS 11 USERS: the black box is a windows 11 specific issue, but to fix it, don't follow any of the stuff others have listed cause i tried them and they didn't work. i found a fix instead where you double click the string value you made and just get rid of the value data and leave it blank. restart explorer, restart your pc, and it should actually stay blank this time. it worked for me, just thought i would share. hope it works for yall!
Thanks, I was looking for this after still getting black boxes. Works on windows 10 aswell!
Amen to the messiah
Spot on thank you for sharing
Thank you😄😄😄😄
Holy Shiz, Actually Worked Better Than The Video Itself 😮.
Thank You Homs!!! 🎉
Forget about these gymnastics with string values. JUST DELETE THE CODE YOU PUT IN 29 (i.e. %windir%\System32\shell32.dll,-50) AND RESTART.
That worked beautifully, thank you.
Great, this is the solution, magic number 29
%windir%\System32\shell32.dll,50 use this if black box

Thank you so much! Never really liked those shortcut arrows. Great tutorial!!!
Thanks Watching
Welcome 😊
It worked but when I enlarge the icons it had a square black void on my icon instead of an arrow.
Is your issue solved?
Oh yes we all have this problem
So I kind of solved it but not in the same time. There is no way to solve it permanently although u can delet thumbnails using DISK CLEANUP
and then restart file explorer from the task manager but unfortunately u have to do that every time u boot up
This problem still occurred to me even when I formatted my laptop (wasn't for that particular reason) so that unfortunately is the only solve I don't know why windows doesn't make it an option
Don’t know if this will help. But I right clicked in the middle of the screen pressed view changed it to small then back to medium and it took the black blocks away
Super simple and no sketchy third-party download websites. Thanks!
Thank you so much! I don’t trust any other CZcamsr! You always have the most simple and easy to follow instructions! I’ve been trying to get rid of that pesky icon for ages!
Thanks for you Feedback 👍👍👍
If you face any issues after sometime then try this video - czcams.com/video/6ydj6yFfij8/video.html
@@TechNtechhahh! Ok that’s why there was a huge black box after I reset my laptop! Thank you!!
Is the black box issue sorted out?
For people who got a black square, here is how to fix:
1. Download a blank, transparent .png and convert it to .ico file format
2. Save it somewhere in your pc, and copy its path
3. at 2:47 paste the path to the value data instead of what shown in the video
This should work.
Where do you get a blank transparent png? Google images doesn't have any
@@billyjim1116 I cannot post a link because youtube would automatically hide my comment, but you can go to wikipedia and add "/wiki/File:Blank.png" to the url. There you have a blank png that you can download.
sadly it gives it white page icons
now i have white page icon on it hahaha
@@JonnyLpW Are you sure that you got the path right? Double check to see if you included the name of the blank picture file at the end. I removed the file's name from the path and it too showed white pages so this must be your problem.
For example if you put "blank.ico" in a folder named "Picture" in the C drive. The path is "C:\Picture\blank.ico" and not just "C:\Picture"
If that can't solve it then I'm out of idea. It works fine for me. Maybe try increasing the size of the .ico to 128x128
work first boot, then its BLACK BOX INSTEAD... help fix plz... moving, resize, change icon, reboot explorer, dont help... thx
thanks so much man very direct and great tutorial!
thanks bro, restarting file explorer was much more convenient than restarting my pc. great to know that i can do that if the icons ever glitch again
Damn dude! Awesome Vid! Very fast and precise. Thank you so much!
Excellent concise instructions, which worked for me and I'm running W11 Pro, 22H2 Build 22621.1702 - May31st 2023. Thank you.
Thank you so much!! direct to the point and clear explanation

just those sounds that he makes after every sentence 😂😂
Yes, that because of breathing?
Thanks very clear and easy tutorial now my desktop looks more tidy.
IF YALL GOT BLACK BOXES DELETE WHAT YOU CREATED AND MAKE A NEW ONE BUT DONT PUT ANYTHING IN THE VALUE DATA thats what worked for me anyways OR you can change the size of your icons to something smaller and i think that works too
very very thanks to you
Thanks! Worked!
This worked as it should've, it made the arrows transparent, but it also made the icon behind them transparent aswell, so it looks like the icon has a random sqare piece missing. Is there any way to fix this? I have a Windows 11 Home.
Thanks! Easy, quick, working tutorial!
i have a problem
when i go to the current version file there is only one file called "Auto Rotation"
what should i do?
thank you.
before watching this, I did this with third-party software.

Thank you! I don't have to download any software now :)
Yeah this doesn't work. It does at first. But once I restart my laptop, all the icons are large black boxes. I have to go into task manager and restart the explorer every time I restart my laptop. Which is more inconvenient then having the arrows there. Pretty unfortunate. I was loving it until i reset computer.
is your problem sorted out
use this instead %windir%\System32\shell32.dll,50
Bro i also felt same problem. so here's the solution for this problem, you just open the run (hold windows button and press R) and type "cleanmgr" then press "okay" there from, C disk you just select "thumbnails" and press clean. After this restart your PC. Problem solved. You're Welcome🤗
This worked perfectly, thank you!

thanks you so much brother.
Thanks so much bro :)
After following these instructions, to make this actually work, and not show black squares, do the following:
Change "%windir%\System32\shell32.dll,-50" to nothing. Just delete that line from the key. Then restart File Explorer. This has worked for me without issue in both Windows 10 and 11.
I think this tells Windows, instead of using this specific transparent image... just don't use an image.
I've also seen some people say to just create a transparent square .ico image, and paste the filepath into that line instead. I had mostly broken results with that. But I suppose, in theory, you could customize shortcuts in this way with your own little image there if you wanted. ymmv
thank you
This one actully works. Thanks man!
@@sylleeW Glad to help!
I wanţ to note that it appears that nothing is perfect.
I have done this on my Windows 10 Laptop and Desktop, my Windows 11 Laptop and Desktop.
However I set up a desktop PC for a friend, and put Windows 11 on it, and this didn't work. It was still left with black squares.
The 4 that it worked on are still going strong, weeks later.
4/5 is not bad given that all other things just didn't work, or only worked for a minute!
So, I have found that the latest updates for Windows 10 and Windows 11 broke this (except on my main desktop Windows 10 PC, for some reason), and now entire icons are just gone. And in a way that I've never seen! It's honestly kind of interesting. Some taskbar icons do the usual "blank icon" thing, but desktop icons... the icons will simply be gone, and the names will sit at the top. For instance, the Recycle Bin which is usually at the top left of the desktop, the words "Recycle Bin" will be flush with the top edge of the monitor! So weird.
It's worth a shot still, because I'm still having some success, and maybe future updates will unbreak it.
Nevertheless I'm very disappointed that an update some how broke this nearly perfect solution. 😐😐
Of course, to return this to normal, just delete the the registry key "29" that you created.
Wouldn't use this. I can't use large icons on my desktop anymore due to the black boxes. I deleted the regedit entry, restarted, refreshed desktop & still have black boxes, even on the icons that weren't shortcuts.
