Matty should do his own podcast where he just talks about the world. I could listen to this man talk for hours
he did a series of interview/podcasts for the face magazine i believe they were great
His interview with Stevie Nicks is fantastic
Exactly my thoughts. He's so magnetic!!
@@silczz ew
That did not age well given the absolute horrible podcast he was a guest on.
Matty is one of the only artists who is able to articulate how it feels to be a fan. He is spot on, fans support artists by buying merch, tickets, buying and streaming music, etc. which is what gives the artist the platform they have. If an artist wants to do a meet and greet, the artist should want to meet the fans that changed their life for free. Matty is a treasure and this interview was amazing. Zane doesn't disappoint.
exactly.
They did a paid meet and greet a few days after this! Interesting
Very well said, totally agree.
@@alexpattle96 it was an in person album signing lmao something completely different but go off

zane laughing at matty but matty looks so serious and confused is making me laugh
Matty always looks like that I love him 🤣
Zane simply downed one beer, that's it :) One beer is just enough to transcend your mood for good :)

matty calling Ross "my boy" and getting emotional talking about the friendship within the band made me melt 🥺 i love them so much

1:07:37 the immediate switch up from Matty being passionate about paid meet-and-greet's, to Zane asking a complete non sequitur question, and then both of them just leaving in the weirdest silence ever; so confusing but I love it
Yeah what was that 😅
It makes perfect sense imperfectly.
@@RachelEveH They have that conversation a lot and I think they both usually refuse to answer because it's so hard. Kind of like a running joke between the two!

Taylor got me here. I am staying. Came across the band and Healy just a fortnight ago. I am hooked. Love the music and what they stand for.
My favorite band. They are amazing ❤
happy for you! one of the coolest bands in the world!
"I drew the short straw at the nepotism baby nursery."
Seriously.....Matty is hilarious.
I love how quick and aware and candid he is. I can't think of many people who are on his level.

@@_FrancyL I see what ur saying but only half agree. I'm very liberal, very progressive, very left. And yet, I don't think people merely saying challenging or upsetting things is...a problem. It's just one part of a huge conversation that's lasted since humanity existed. I find the things people say upsetting sometimes. And if I can, I try to talk more with them. Often context is key and changes everything. But even if we flat out disagree, as long as we both respect our shared human rights and autonomy, I'm fine with someone believing some maddening thing. It only crosses the line when someone is advocating to negate other's autonomy and rights. But even then, you can still push back with words.
But specifically with Matty, I have zero problem with him. I agree with him 90% of the time. And the 10% I don't, well...so what.
In today's world, with real authoritarians and sociopaths in positions of power, THAT is where my concern lies. Matty is a good guy and if HE should be "cancelled" then we ALL should be cancelled. We've got bigger fish to fry...ya know? Same goes for Grimes. First, people SO often miss her very dry humor. But I appreciate her chaotic thinking. It's refreshing, even and especially when I totally disagree with it. We live in a world where Trump may well be POTUS again; THAT is where my concern lies.
This bloke sure talks too much and taking himself too seriously at times. But he's like a volume shooter when it comes to saying brilliant things.
7 years and I still don't think I'll ever admire any other artist more than Matthew f*cking Healy
I'm 100% with you!
These are honestly the best music interviews...
YESYESYES
These interviews NEVER FAIL to make you feel so connected to the artist. I like how open and vulnerable they can get. Zane, you’re a legend
You just can’t beat interviews where the interviewer can speak as a peer with such a complete understanding and empathy for the interviewee. That’s why this is league above any conversation a journalist can have with an artist.
Matty getting emotional while talking about friendship with the guys is the most I’ve ever related to him I think. I’ve had the same best friend since I was 8 and I will never take that for granted!
My word. The way he describes being a music fan FIRST, along with the love of the culture of said music first, is beyond perfection.
I believe that he is an extremely brilliant, intelligent and charismatic man, unfortunately he is also very often misunderstood. Of course no one denies that in the past he made too many jokes or said something controversial but like "Taylor Swift's new boyfriend" people started scrutinizing his past in a morbid way and 80% of the things that have been written about him on TikTok, Twitter and Buzzfeed are falsehoods, phrases taken out of context and even often invented.
Doesn't help how 3/4 of the swifties are attacking him for something that doesn't concern them, and i'm saying this as a fan of both artists!
this! he isnt some monster that ppl think he is😭
Cringe 😂
matty is such a poet. not in the cheesy-poetry-ish way, it’s just who he is. his words flow. his art is him himself, it’s what he praises the most. zane is such an insane interviewer to be able to make musicians (specifically them, whom are already so used and comfortably sat with the idea of poetry and beautiful words coming out of their mouths every second) feel human in the biggest poetic way. this is so beautiful, guys. matty is an artist given for us to love, may we keep doing it for a long time
A tortured poet?! 🫣🤣
Wow I love the way his brain works it’s so interesting, he’s so calm and well spoken. Love seeing him like this talking about his passion and music
50:00 🥺
He loves the guys in his band so much. Matty has a heart of gold and no one is going to change my mind.
God he and Taylor really looked good together i hope they start over again
bro hasn't listened to the smallest man who ever lived
36:31 Lost Boys in Peter Pan. ❤
45:52 mentions Taylor and Lana
50:10 gets emotional about not having close relationships like his band mates
Matty may joke around a lot and play through a character at all times but in real life he is really eloquent. This mans mind is really deep, that is why I like him.
I can listen to these two speak forever
The way that Matty feels about the band is so incredibly special, what a beautiful relationship. I think the “lost boys” comparison doesn’t do it justice. There is nothing juvenile or immature about having true, soulmate-level friendships. We place so much value in our culture on traditional domestic partnerships/nuclear family units. His love for the band and their willingness to die for each other puts into perspective what Matty went through last year and his choice to stay out of the limelight. It is clear there is probably nothing he wouldn’t give up to maintain the purity of his band and their friendship.
hearing matty talk about how being affected by art transcends a person and im crying. sir you have done that for so many
I can hear Matty talking about stuff all day without getting bored
wow, I’ve never seen matty get emotional, ever. It was beautiful to see that, especially with the context of what he’s talking about. absolutely amazing interview, thank you zane and matty
His voice is just something else. This man could read the phone book to me, and I’d be happy
I feel that on a personal level. I love this man, man crush 1975%
One of the best interviews I’ve ever seen. The honesty and earnestness of Matty is so refreshing. Too many people take him the wrong way but his vision and outlook on life is very unique and that shows through the bands music.
Also, this interview is absolute gold. It's so evident just how much Matty loves George, Adam and Ross, the emotion and deep dive into how they became what we know and love is just so eyeopening
Okay, Taylor, now I get it
My exact thoughts
Apparently not
Maybe he’s smart but he isn’t nice on the eyes.
@@BreakerOfChains219r u mad? hes gorgeous! big kind eyes

Matty is calculated. He makes it sound more artistic because we like to saY intentional. I love his vision because it‘s backed by love, true deep friendship and insane talent.
He’s great. He’s like how artists were in 1975 - real, raw, authentic.
So trueee! Hes was an old soul
People don’t like him but he’s easily one of the best musical minds in this day and age. Every album has an aesthetic and a feel and I just love that about a band. The eras are all personal.
Easily one of my top 5 favourite bands now. The new album is fantastic.
I wish all the Swifties hating on Matty just by a Buzzfeed article will look at this interview and understand that yes we as humans are flawless, but also we can grow up and learn to be better. And shut up with the crazy awful hate on both.
Zane's interviews are always incredible. So glad they did this. I couldn't be more excited for this album.
Saw them supporting Little Comets at Manchester Academy 3, i told my friend they were going to be huge and forced her to come back stage after the show to see them. Over a decade later I still have the postcard Matty signed for me. Wild seeing the band you loved as a teen really REALLY make it in the way you thought they would.
How did you get backstage? 😱🤩🙌🏻
That is so cool! The same thing happened to me with Yungblud the first time he came to the US. Dom only had *maybe* 100,000 followers total at the time across all platforms and I just thought that he had something special about him. I got to meet him after the show and I've loved watching him get bigger and bigger. I've now seen him 4 times and have been lucky enough to have a M&G each time. I can't wait to see him again in August for the 5th time! It's amazing when you have a memory as you have. It makes it really special! ❤ Thanks for sharing!
Just saw this interview and feel just blown away on how deep Matty Healy is. I’ve been a fan of Taylor Swift and and that’s how I heard about this band. Love 💕
SO,So happy a whole new fan base is emerging for this great cultural phenom!
Quite upsetting bc Taylor Swift’s music comes no where close to the quality The 1975 has produced for over a decade. Welcome to the good side of music
This comment is so sad in hindsight 😢
This is the first time in months I've been able to sit down and watch something fully, without pausing. This just had such a wonderful feeling to it. Thank you for this.
Same, I never looked at my phone once. I was so wrapped up in listening 😊
Matty knew what he was doin
Matty has become my comfort person. Going and listening to their first EPS and album after an interview like this hits me with an immense feeling of nostalgia and pride of growing up with them. ❤️
Matty gets me thinking how precious my friends are. It's so difficult to realize untill you lose them, but thanks to him, now I just really appriciate the relationship I have with them.
I stopped my entire day to sit down and watch. This is exactly what I wanted. The way the interview was set up was interesting and done so well. Authenticity all around. Love you both ❤
Zane Lowe is the Rick Rubin of interviewers when it comes to interviewing artists. He seems to pull out this level of comfort in artists that allows them to really be themselves and express whatever it is they're really thinking about whatever it is they're having a conversation about. I always look forward to the Zane Lowe interviews with artists.
I love Matty, I saw them in concert back in 2019 and I felt so euphoric, it was raining and they still played. I love this.
incredible convo and honestly a blessing and a relief to hear Matty so sincerely talk about the joy of maturing. Being alive and earnestly engaging with life is where it's at. With sobering gratitude ❤
I love Matty Healy, what interesting intellectual human being.
I was born and have lived in Manchester all of my life, watching them walk around the places I used to go to gigs and hang out on the weekends gave me goosebumps. I still walk around the city centre pretty much every week, but seeing Matty speak about these places and the shared experience we have just kinda hits you differently and fills me with pride for what The 1975 have achieved.
Brilliant interview!
On his own he still managed to represent the band and not just talk about himself, not many can do that
loved every minute of it! every time I listen to Matty, I kinda feel like I'm getting smarter and I want to write a new song right away. thanks for this amazing video including also these beautiful and historic Manchester sceneries. loved it, loved it!
Fact that Zane interviews are so kinda personal-ish but guys please applause to these camera guys who filmed this that cinematically. I know it’s super hard from my experience but look at these wes anderson’s angles. Zane i think we all can agree, we need more of these.
Oh, thank you so much! I've been waiting for this interview for so long! What a pleasure!
I could listen to Matty for hours, days, years. His way of seeing life is so interesting, i love him, i love his brain, i love his music, i love his existence in general.
He is attractive. On the inside and the outside....50:28 ...so emotional. Want to hug him.
being so close to Manchester my whole life and discovering the 1975 just months before the debut album and months before I moved there (and where I am now, my work, my best friends, my art all exists in and around Manny) is so... special. genuinely brings me to tears when Matty (and the band as a whole) are given space to speak so sincerely and openly about the journey, the ideas, the feelings-big and small. they really mean the most to me in so many ways- as a band, as thinkers, as shakers. to me as a young person in the North, as a community artist, as a writer. really really loving this conversation and I'm only 20 mins in yet, but thank you Zane and the team for another cracking discussion and deep dive. this time with my faves. Bless The 1975
That's so sweet ❤
@@victorialuizza 🙏🏽🥲
His observation on nepotism is something I thought of myself when the whole "nepo baby" thing first became a concept to drag artists over. I agree with him on that one.
what an incredible and indulgent discussion which doesn't shy away from any topic. as a fan of the 1975 since their self titled era, it feels so much more special to get to know the origin of the boys from their beginning in Manchester, and Zane Lowe's insight is so helpful in finding out more from a different perspective! an hour well spent :)
I love how matty just makes words up so eloquently and it makes sense
thanks to Matty for being incledibly helpful in getting my C1 in english, after a bachelor, a master and having watched most of his interviews I still don't know half the words he's spittin
They took an old sound and made it sound fresh and cool. They also have this weird ambient sound to them that is also amazing and therapeutic to listen to.
See this guy gets a lot of hate, but the media doesn’t show his hood side. Good man and good musician. All love from me, Matty.
This was excellent. Love these two, what a great conversation! Found parts of this relatable as someone from Manchester. Love how he hasn't forgot his roots.
WOW When he talked about feeling the transformative power of music that hit HARD. I cant explain it but I've never been the same since the first time i heard The 1975's first album... and that's a great thing.
Terse. The man used the word terse in casual conversation. Who the hell uses words like that anymore? Genuinely impressed by his diverse vocabulary and ability to articulate thoughts, feelings, and ideas. If the rumors are true, then well done Taylor.
What is it the rumor ,just i don't 😢
First, Zane’s one of the best interviewers currently. Truly, I can only think of two others who match his level of great questions while making the artists comfortable. Also, Matty talking about the guys made me tear up! I love this band so much and can’t wait to hear the new album 💙
this is probably one of if not my favourite interview ever. I love listening to matty talk.
I love these interviews by Zane! The 1975 is one of my favorite bands and I never clicked faster to open a Zane Lowe interview.
what an amazing human being. im so proud of him ❤ thank you for this interview
i got teary-eyed when matty got emotional. really felt that one.
I love that he just zones out when ppl are talking but he’s obviously paying attention but zane is just chatting and Matty is like 😶🫠
Finally someone commented on this aspect!
Thought it was just me, very hilarious cos I get annoyed for him
Probably the most fascinating, interesting, in-sighting interview I have had the pleasure of watching and listening to
AMAZING!!! I have been having such issues trying to decipher what is causing so much of my disenfranchised feelings towards present culture and in turn articulating myself, Matt does not claim to know but instead presents himself as joining us in our disillusioned emotions but within that presents the reasons why we feel that way. So so inspiring, thank you so much for this.
That word salad says more about you. You speak yet you say NOTHING!
@@MinshullFamilyArchive I don't know why you feel the need to show such negativity towards someone who's simply expressing excitement towards a fantastic interview. I suppose people like you are the down side to the internet. Disappointing... I hope you find happiness in life :)
zane, you are amazing and this was such an interesting conversation. i love matty so much and learnt so much about him through this video. he’s such a unique, transparent, and fascinating person. he’s truly a genius
I love his mind frame, the way he thinks, he is well educated in the business and surroundings, I love his music and I could literally talk with him all day.

loved this interview. so well done and a joy to watch.
I love Matty's way of thinking, he is a really interesting and intelligent person, you can learn a lot from him and his way of thinking. His way of thinking is realistic and objective, it is what many people do not dare to say
Matty Healy is so earnest. Hearing him talk about his relationship with the guys could thaw any heart.
There is only one word for Matty-authentic❤️
Thank you for the interview i never even thought to stop watching even if it was an hour long. As always at the top of the game Zane❤️
One of Matty's best interview so far, so engaging. It never fails to impress me how highly eloquent the man is
I’m a relatively new fan of the 1975 but i think this is the most engaging interview I’ve ever seen. I never would normally sit through an hour long interview but I think I’ve related to this. I’m 25 now and I feel like I’m listening to someone who’s older than I am who’s been where I have and I’m just sitting here listening so intently and hoping that I am going in the same direction in life. Essentially I’m seeing matty in this interview as someone I’d really like to just sit and talk with because he’s the kind of person you can talk to and the conversation is gonna be productive and will never get boring.
I love how matty's dressed like a proper english gentleman, in a coat and with an umbrella, and zane's just in a hoody like a teenager

Authentic and upfront, It's refreshing to see in this world of dismissal and digression.
He hasn't changed but for a confidence that is actually a beautiful thing.
Anyone who's ever met Matty will know how much of a genuinely lovely guy he is. He has always had the time to stop and chat for those who hv invested time and money into loving the band and seeing their shows. They used to always come out to meet fans for ages after the shows. Obv once they got bigger it was harder to manage. Their body of work over the last ten yrs gathers even more fans at every turn. Still my favourite band in the last ten years. Loved hearing him chat about how great Manchester is for live music. Takes me bk seeing the Night and Day cafe ❤️
