Yeah when I think of an anime that truly stood out this decade, it definitely has to be Attack on Titan. I think people forget just how massive it was when it first came out and it's only gotten better each season. On a side note, be nice to Yuri on Ice.

@@ImperiumVFX The fact that Joey himself has said that Attack on Titan is one of the only anime he views has become a classic within the past decade and the absolute love that Aot gets not only from anime fans but even outside the fandom can't compare to Re:Zero. Honestly even on a creative level, Re:Zero was great but Attack on Titan is on another level. I've never seen this much love for an anime, something that Attack on Titan wholeheartedly deserves.
I’ve been immersing myself in anime for the past few years and it is a little off putting how much the community makes fun of “normies.” I personally get the gut reaction but I feel like it is very toxic and dissuades people who might otherwise like anime from even getting started.

The reason there wasn't a "Favorite Director" or "Favorite Voice Actor" category; is because most of the people who voted on this would've had no idea who any of those people even are.

I find it really hard to get into that territory and I've been watching anime since 2013. I don't know, I would love to know more about the masterminds behind the amazing pieces I watch, but it's just not something I look at or would probably even memorize... I have some obvious favorite directors like Makoto Shinkai and Satoshi Kon, but there's just too many VA's and I'm terrible at paying attention to them unless they are VERY notable (like Okabe's or Yagami Light's brilliant VAs).

“Normy” shows are what bring more people into the anime community. You can argue that more people is a bad thing, but reality is, the more people that watch anime means the more funding. Anime was created from a lack of funding, more content with less manpower. So if you like anime, you should be happy that others do too. An unfortunate, or fortunate depending how you look at it, side effect is more mainstream anime will gain more praise, regardless of subjective content quality.
Ofcourse the generic animes will get more newcomers because it is same shit for us but for the newcomers it can be just what they wanted.

In fact most normie shows are normie because they are good enough to be talked about in the community. I'm not going to say Demon Slayer has the best animation out of any show this decade, it's just my opinion from what I've seen. The Anime Man is pretty in-tune with anime but he has not seen every show, I believe everyone's opinion is as good as the next guys, no matter if they're a youtuber that has seen virtually every show or someone who watches only mainstream anime.
I don’t agree with this video and what he talked about, i did agree with the fact that more “underrated” animes should be appreciated, but this article is in fact called, “ the most popular anime in the decade” now I will say I am still in my beginning stages of watching anime. So to Joey I would be a “normie” and honestly I thought many times about leaving the anime community because it’s toxic, some people in the anime community are nice but I’ve seen more bad then good. Can we not call someone a normie for watching demon slayer for example? If Joey said that demon slayer was a good anime before it got popular then it would have been a different story, he would say something along the lines of “I really like how demon slayer turned popular because I really liked it and it was underrated before.” Something like that but if he saw it when it was popular then to Joey it being popular is a minus in his book. No one has “bad taste” I think people forget that in our world everyone has different personalities and preferences. Just don’t be elitist.
People like Joe or the anime elitist seems to forget the idea that, if something becomes popular is at least interesting/ have a good premise, or people relate to it in some level. Of course in the most of the time, fans end up hyping shows to much, like chainsaw man, JJK and KNY, which makes people have high expectations that for a lot of cases, end up causing the opposite effect. Still, just because something is popular is not equal as bad, I hate de trend to hate popular/mainstrems anime and I HATE if you say that any of these animes is good or your fav, its means you're a normie, even if you aren't ( Anime fan since 12, now 20 and I was called that for saying that JJK is the most recent shounen that I found fun since one piece, naruto, HXH, fullmetal alchemist and the others 2000 shounens )
In my opinion it is fun to have arguments in a community about your preference as long as it doesn’t go extreme.
You know it's kinda easy to make a good short anime but if an anime has more than 50 episodes and is still really good, then it should be in a different league. There should be 2 lists imo, because comparing an anime with 12 episodes to one that has over 50,200 or 500 is kinda unfair and many people don't watch longer anime because they didn't have enough time so it was left undiscovered. Of course no one can really ever say that there's a best anime, song, movie and the like because there are too many that are really good. But we can distinguish between those that are mediocre or average and those that were better than average. And demon slayer was definitely better than average.

@@sakuya9017 I don't know what you would classify as a new anime viewer but I have been watching anime for just over a year (so I may fit into that category), but SAO is my favourite anime (it was my third anime so I may have some bias). I am not saying it is anywhere near a masterpiece but I think far more people would enjoy it if elitist anime watches didn't shove their opinions down people's throats and over critique something (mainly for views) that they don't enjoy and shouldn't even be watching anyway. I think sometimes new anime watches are even more likely to hate anime like SAO as they want to fit in with the elitist anime watchers. I don't think my opinions on SAO will change and it will always be my favourite.

Demon Slayer just won because it was popular at that time just like a lot of things in the Awards. Most people always just talk about the same scene and nothing else.
Mob is another one of those cases where people refuse to admit good animation or even watching a show because of artstyle. It's the same with people who think realistic videogames are always harder to make or more impressive than stylized.

It’s interesting that you used Star Wars and lord of the rings as the examples for sci-fi fantasy, where Star Wars tends to follow more traditional fantasy tropes while having a sci-fi setting. Star Wars IMO is often seen as sort of the love child of fantasy and sci-fi coming together. I would argue Star Wars is one of the few films that would actually fall in a sci-fi/fantasy. Love the channel, anime man!

So i dont know why people get so worked up about stuff like this. It is what it is, some time bullshit like the companion category(the category not the result), but hell they did it and people voted, not all people but some, and to them happy won.

I do watch some(few) of his videos, but not really for his insight of taste, but bucause he talks about lots of anime and the people that messajes him talk about lots, so when i see it, i might find some title i havent seen and i want to check out. Sure, there are plenty of great mainstream products out there, but a truly fair and unbiased award system would objectively look at everything produced in a particular medium in a given year, and judge it accordingly. Of course, these things are run by humans, and through no one's fault, it's really difficult for someone to actually take the time to check out literally everything a medium has to offer in a year. So, of course they will start with the most well-known stuff. Also, the potential audience may be put off if what gains the most awards isn't particularly well-known, so the ultimate winner almost has to be something mainstream. So, there's just no way for industry awards to be any kind of objective measure of media. That's why I stopped caring about them a long time ago.

@Jéster I mean, what the fuck else would he talk about in a video like this lol. Just look at each winner and go "yeah, these are the favorites of people" or something? Besides, a lot of the stuff he mentions like Hyouka and Haruhi Suzumiya are popular among the anime community, just not necessarily outside of it. And a lot of the nominees/winners he was fine with, and just added stuff he would recommend in the categories too rather than just bashing the picks.
The problem with this type of system is even though its "of the decade"; its usually the more recent anime that are remembered. Especially as most people voting haven't been watching anime for a decade. (That isn't a read 😅)
It's called recency bias. One tends to remember the recent events more than earlier ones.
If you really have a favorite anime films/series, no matter how many years it has passed. You won't forget it. If you truly loved the anime you watch.

I'm a little late on this but I wholeheartedly agree, especially for mob; as someone who has actually watched quite a bit of anime, mob stands out as some of the best animation I've ever seen. He also overlooked it in the best ops tier list he did a while back; both s1 and 2 had some of my fav ops in pretty much any show, from music to animation. I feel like he kinda sleeps on mob.

One small thing, Sci-fi and fantasy, when combined, are the same genre. But for some reason it is always named scifi/fantasy. The proper name for this genre, which doesn't make it seem as bad, is speculative fiction, the genre of fiction where you make up some aspect of your world.
Yeah, it comes from the fact that true Sci-Fi has to be possible, and anything that may be improbable, even if it's just the smallest thing suddenly puts in Fantasy.
When it comes to Fantasy, anything that improves the civilization beyond that which makes it easier for them to live, makes it sci-fi, due to the "Science" of the world being changed for the better.
