@Attack on Titan well, my cousin watched one anime, called himself a huge weeb. I told him he wasn't, as I used to watch anime and read a few mangas on a daily bases for 3 years straight, if anyone was a weeb between us it was me (the animes/mangas ranged from shounen to slice of life, etc. simply because I had nothing else to do in life). I slowly stopped watching anime and I never considered myself a weeb, nor weabu, nor otaku. A few months later my cousin so happens to watch all the latest trending anime that are pretty well known even for someone that isn't into anime. My cousin insults me for not being a huge weeb like him, and I don't like him because he basically watched anime to be that dude who gets calls himself a weeb. With that being said, in my original comment I said it like their are others like him which is true to an extent. Another example is a tik tok female does a the Chika dance from kaguya-sama love is war and it gets a lot of views, why? Because they hopped on the trending train. I dont like anime trend hoppers, but I don't hate them either, just a minor nitpick. It was my mistake but you get the idea? I hope so because I'm tired and school starts tomorrow l. If I didn't make it clear I'm sorry because I'm not a big fan of English, at school I do just enough to pass.

Season 1 on its own isn't really the masterpiece everyone hyped it up to be though. It was kind of just an action thrill ride.
A C i agree that season 1 on its own (before the release of seasons 2 and especially 3) was hyped up too much (for the wrong reasons). However in the context of the entire series i actually think season 1 is brilliant. In my opinion you catch a lot more of the brilliance of this season when rewatching it with the knowledge of the later seasons.

Just Because It's extremely Popular doesn't neccesarily mean it's overrated or bad.
That's the case with Attack on Titan.
The Plot and the Characters are so well thought out it's actually Genius.
On the first season it was the characters driving the plot,
On the second season it was the Characters being revealed.
On the Third Season it was the Plot Driving the Characters and putting them in different scenarios that revealed aspects of the characters you never saw before (The Best Example : Historia)
Season 3 Part 2 was the payoff to all of this, and also cleared the way for season 4 to happen.
The entire Genre of the Show changed,
At first it was just a simple conflict,
Humans = Good
Titans = Bad.
But as the series progresses you understand that the humans are far from being good.
And Titans are a mere victim of Humanity's Cruelty.
So Long Story Short, Attack on Titan is a well written masterpiece that you don't usually find nowdays.

It’s like the majority of the community want it to be overrated. It’s one of my absolute favourite anime’s (as well as top 10 manga) and honestly deserves all the hype it gets
Season 1 was trash, but season 2-3 were masterpieces. I’ve heard that the plot of season 4 is written masterfully, so I’m very optimistic about season 4.
for some odd reason im overly attached to Attack on Titan and im so glad that Joey took the time to explicitly praise it. This may sound sad and VERY weird but this was the abselute highlight of my day

I watched the first season of AoT years ago and was bored, action is not my thing... but everyone keep talking about it so... today I finished watching the whole thing.. OMG I was crying, screaming, begging to God for the life of these characters and that shit never happened to me before. The build up is INSANE.

Season 4 is going to be better than all of the other season combined, not even exaggerating. Attack on titan is one of the only shows that never drops in quality, it only goes up.

For instance, I say The Seven Deadly Sins is overrated because everyone I know and heard about talk about and love it and I feel like it overstayed it’s welcome. That’s how I see it, when people use that term. It’s literally an opinionated term.

No man, you are confusing objective critic with personal opinion, you may not like attack on titan but you got to admit that has pretty good narraive, characters, world building, etc.
When we say that something is overrated is because it is not as, objectively, good as the public think it is. But is good to remember that: "The audience makes the show goes on, not the critics."

i usually just watch anime when my friends tell me to watch them but Attack on Titan was the recommendation that made me explore other animes by myself. it set the bar really high though haha
Yeah. The only anime that I think comes close to surpassing it, in my eyes, is Violet Evergarden and Vinland Saga. Weirdly enough, Vinland saga is done by the same studio, and Violet and Claudia are Mikasa and Zeke respectively. Also, Grisha, his younger form, is Thorfinn.
Yeah it same goes to fullmetal alchemist if you haven't watch it.
The only anime which are as good as attack in titan are full metal Alchemist brotherhood,hunter x hunter ,steins gate
Vinland saga manga is really good, waiting to see it animated(next season's). It will give aot a great competition.
And if berserk gets a perfect anime adaptation then it will be one of the best ever,better than AOT

I started to tear up when Joey explained just how good a story attack on titan is and how the three seasons build up to the awesome climax. I couldn't help but remember being 12 and reading the manga which at the time was in season 3 territory and just how passionate I was about it and still am to this day as I read a new chapter every month. I practically grew up with the series and it just has a special place in my heart.

It’s annoying because Death Note IS overrated because of the terrible last third of the series, but the guy in the video didn’t criticise any of the right things.
I think he didnt express himself very well but i agree with him if he meant to say that by the end of the anime the planning the tatics of both sides begin to get soooo overly complicated and meticulous that it starts to get ridiculous imo, in the entirety of idk thhe last 5 episodes or so i was like bro theres no way that u could predict all that and also the mistakes that were made wich made light lose were so stupid idk it just became kinda foorced imo. With all that being said i still think its a great anime but when i started to get into anime it was said by a lot of people that death note was basically the greatest anime of all time wich isnt truue at all for me its like a 8/10

What he described about AOT was actually the same for me too. I liked s1 but didn't feel great about it. But from s2 just became a fan of this show. And after s3 it is now my all time favourite. Hajime Isamaya - I honestly can't thank u enough for gifting is with such a masterpiece.

just because light doesn't have a standard character growth arc like most other protagonists in anime (weak boi become strong boi uwu) doesn't mean he doesn't have development? he does, it's just like... negative character development. instead of growing as a person, he starts out normal and his mental state just deteriorates over the course of the show. he goes from a regular, collected high school kid, to a fucking deranged psycho and he just... crumbles. and it's glorious to watch. negative character arcs ftw
also I'm probably biased bc death note was one of the first anime I ever watched, my first real favourite, and still stands in my top 10 to this day... but I really think light is a brilliant character. both him and L are some of my favourite characters in fiction, and he's up there with araragi, eren, okabe and gon as one of my favourite protagonists ever. (oh yeah jotaro and joseph joestar are pretty good too)

I've read the AoT manga, and it's the best series I've seen. The characters, story, it's all amazing.
JoJo doesn't have much of a thought out story. Especially the whole "journey to Egypt" part where it was mainly filler up until Dio, with a few important stand episodes. Like "woah we crashed a plane, 5 more episodes added on". But JoJo is more fun, and chill. It doesn't have a goal but that's what's good about it. It's fun to see the stand fights.

@@caoilte8097 oh, I was more referring to the overall story. After part 6 of the manga, they kinda just got rid of the entire past story up until then, and it made me not start steel ball run (I know steel ball run is great from what people have said). I really liked part 4 of JoJo, but I find it difficult to enjoy knowing that these characters will likely never be relevant again. Koichi being in part 5 was honestly disappointing with his lack of involvement. I just feel like each part loosely ties in the last ones but doesn't impact me as much as I know it won't really matter in the end. I just wish the world was more continuous instead of slight references.
Still, as stand alone parts, JoJo part 4 is one of my favourite seasons in anime, and my favourite JoJo part, probably because the stand fights don't brush away characters and instead keeps them in the story making them feel like characters and not one time things.

That one comment about Steins;Gate genuinely made me laugh out loud. Like, seriously, you can like or dislike Steins;Gate as much as you want, but literally everything he/she wrote is the complete opposite of what that series is.
I think the person who said that Light has no character development doesnt know what character development means...like character development isnt always about getting a redemption arc or learning the error of your ways. A character can be very well written and well developed even if they degrade and become consumed with evil, like Light did.
I cried like a baby after watching „Your lie in april“, and yes, you kinda know where it‘s going, but it‘s still one of the most emotional anime I‘ve ever watched.

I think people who say that a series is predictable had it spoiled for them.
For my case into another world with my smartphone was so predictable. I think the reason why some people may call a show predictable because they watch many shows in the same genre then one can tell what happens next

People forget knowing someone is going to die can still be as impactful as not knowing who is going to die. Some people throw predictable as it a bad thing way to much like certian tropes that are always use. Using trope are bad it how the trope is use to progress the story is. Not every story needs to have some kind of twist to get you invested.

You're wrong. The words overrated and underated speak to the proportion of hype/buzz to quality. If something Is overrated it is to say the quality is lower than the hype would suggest. Inverse for underrated. They do speak to the quality of a show, but it is subjective. There is no objective rating of shows, that's the nature of a rating.
Also it's impossible to use them as objective terms. It is always an opinion.

Phrase "show is overrated" doesn't tell me anything about the flaws of a show, nor i can in any way relate it to my experience of it. With phrases like "it's boring/confusing/irritating/unfunny/without depth etc., tho also subjective, you can relate to it, and argue with that using arguments.
But with "overrated", you can throw this sentence in the void without a much thought, and feel like you said something meaningful, when you haven't really said shit. It's an equivalent of "too many people like it, and they are stupid for doing so"

*For me* Steins;Gate is the greatest series I have watched. I love the story. It's one of the best story ever written. Character development is so good. Series to understand they explain all of it in VN not all of it in the anime.
I honesty don’t see how people can see how attack on titan is overrated. Maybe it’s because it was my first anime but it’s honestly such a great series. The way everything connects together is amazing. Nothing feels like it was an asspull, it all feels though way in advance and like the author knows where the series is going. Plus the fights are just amazing. I feel like binging the whole series from season 1-3 really helps the series and makes you appreciate it more
Thing about these "overrated" shows is that they really aren't overrated at all. It's usually case of "I don't like this, so it has to be overrated".
On the other side I can't even start the show. I saw some fights from it, and then read the synopsis (also saw Gigguk video but that doesn't really count). First, huge wtf: if you just need to bleed to become a titan, then how the hell there is still humans on earth ? It's so easy to cut yourself, like when a guy shave his beard or someone falls, there is a risk. Then the design of the titans... horrible, like, wow. And then there is Eren not dying after being eaten... plot armor or normal thing ? Because in the first case, well it's bullshit, and in the second one, why the earth wouldn't count billions of titans ? And if it does, how some people even had the time to build a huge wall ?
There is already so many problems that I can't call that a masterpiece... but Hiroyuki Sawano's OSTs I discovered randomly are pretty good, I can admit that.

I don't think the show wanted me to like her as a person, so in that sense she fills the role she's meant to and I never saw a problem with her.
I think that was the point of her character to be unlikeable but useable as an asset and both an inconvenience to Light so that he could get discovered and have to use the utmost of his intelligence to fool L.

A comment on the Death Note fight: People only think character development works in getting BETTER, not worse. Character development can go in any direction. Death Note is a story about moral ambiguity and the corruption of power. It is a beautifully crafted story for portraying the main protagonist, who would eventually become evil, in a way that lets us grow with him. We may be morally conflicted in the beginning with what he is trying to do, but we all know when he has crossed the line and things become terrifying and we are waiting to see how he will be toppled.
I also find that people don't appreciate when characters fail to develop. Like they are close to developing or have just developed positively but then something happens that leads to them falling into old habits. Of course you can't do this too much or it pisses people off but still used properly it works well imo

Here's the thing..., Light doesn't develop much per se, Joy tries to state it as "This is the Journey of a fallen hero", which is not what Death Note was about, Light was always a sociopath from start to finish, he's no Walter White, from the get go he was sort of fucked in the head to begin with, great character, but no much development.

@@ctvuniverse4414 Not really, Light Wanted to grow up to be a police detective, never did anything wrong in his life and had a very good outlook on everything, but when he had the deathnote he began to see how easy it was to just kill someone off, after he killed someone for the first time he couldn't believe what was happening, it was like a literal miracle to him. Ryuk arrived only after a week when Light experienced what the book could do and his character was very different, his eyes looked like they hung heavier the artsyle portrays a slant on lights face giving a vibe of dread that he is a changed person. There is development just not in the traditional sense.

Alright, I have to be honest to myself, I was like this too. I thought Jojo was overrated, but I stopped and had time to think for a sec. Also, I thought I was judging it too early. I did NOT watch Jojo yet and I still judged it from a outside perspective without giving it a chance.
I might check out Jojo someday though.

im so glad attack on titan is getting the approval from the anime intellectuals after it got hate from season one, it was almost saddening reading the manga whilst waiting for the second season as everyone was just dropping the anime altogether. I agree that season one was kinda mediocre and season two part one seemed slow next to the action packed season one but if you look into it isayama is a pure genius in the way he places politics, ethics, humanity, etc in an anime about giants. I know I sound like an annoying super-fan but this anime is one I've watched again and again and found something new every time. Like Joey said, if you haven't already, give it a shot! Try not to think of the hype (especially in season one), or, like a lot of people I've spoken to, you dropped it during the wait for season two, I recommend catching up on it. :)
Season 1 was 8/10; solid, kept you intrigued, kept you wanting for more.
Season 2 was 6.5 - 7/10; pacing was much worse and slow overall, but otherwise fine.
Season 3 pt1 was 7/10; you definitely know that the whole season is meant to world build and character build which got confusing and a bit boring.
Season 3 pt2 was 9.8/10; it ties everything together perfectly and every ... cinematic aspect of it is excellent. Not perfect due to the couple of scenes/episodes that have deus ex machina tension moments that just detract from the otherwise great writing a little.

Season one was a 7 for me, season 2 was a solid 8, season 3 part 1 was a 9, and I think part 2 deserved a 9 as well, since the last season, season 4, will be a masterpiece. A lot more action, a lot more characters, a lot more mystery and drama, and a lot more philosophy.

Let’s talk about underrated anime: Violet Evergarden for me personally. It’s definitely one of the most beautiful animations I’ve ever seen, a heartfelt storyline, great character development, and a protagonist that I can’t help falling in love with. It’s pretty highly rated on MAL, but I feel like it doesn’t get talked about enough.
And banana fish omg. I think it’s been pretty highly rated but some people just put in under the Boy’s love category and that makes me angry. Why is this emotional rollercoaster of an anime, the excellent art style and music only termed as BL? Sure there may be BL inside, but it’s so much more. 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️

I think the main protagonists story in Mirai Nikki makes sense on an emotional level, it has been a long time, but the dialgoue that I always remember when hearing/talking about Mirai Nikki is :
~ "I would love anyone that lets me love him" -" You would love anyone that could love you"~ this quote is how I remember it from the last episodes of the anime.
Now does it or do their decisions make sense - as I remember most of the characters in the story are displayed mentally instable, so how does one measure the sense of an action/decision as proportional accurate to a persons character?
