    I hope this message finds you well. Thank you for your recent update.
    I would like to express my concerns regarding the recent changes in the policies. Whether we are engaged in coursework, research, or pursuing a PhD, these new rules should not apply to students who are already enrolled.
    At the time of our admission, the universities required a Statement of Purpose (SOP) from us, in which we clearly stated that we will take benefit of two years post study workright. It is unreasonable to introduce significant changes in the midst of our education. What are we supposed to do now-either spend our time to read syllabus book or these news to stay updated on these disheartening developments?
    Sad, 💔

    What was marketed to students when they entered Australia:
    • Complete your study
    • Get 485 (Post Study Work Permit) to gain experience
    What the Government of Australia is expecting from those students now:
    • Complete your study
    • Go back if you are above 35 because the Government of Australia is repositioning the visa as a product for early career professionals who can contribute to the Australian economy over a longer period.
    The Government of Australia is conflicting with the rules they made and advertised: They expected students upto the age of 50 to come, study, gain experience with VISA 485, and leave Australia. They also said If a student wants to stay longer then they can apply for the permanent pathway.
    Now they are expecting the same students to contribute to the Australian economy over a longer period ??? and if they can't then they should leave now???
    This is a clear act of cheating. The governments of all countries should get involved in this as their citizens are cheated and are on the verge of mental and financial harassment.

      While I agree Australian government flip-flops without due care, and such act is a disgrace to all people involved, not sure how other countries would influence this much. Are you suggesting other primary source nations advertise Australia as a terrible location to study and live, which arguably isn’t really true?
      However, what we can and should do is to inflict reputation damage to Australian government and their fast changing unstable (student) visa system, letting them know in the strongest voice possible that students aren’t scapegoats of Australia, willing to be squeezed and discarded.

    • @Meet-vishal
      @Meet-vishal Před 2 měsíci

      @@estellebright2579 We are not expecting anyone to advertise Australia as a terrible location to study and live. Or reputation damage to Australian government. What we are expecting is a very fair ask - If a person/student entered the country on 1st Sept 2022 or so, all policies that were in fource at that time, should remain applicable for that person/student. Australia shuoldn't play with students life like this. Many students, specially who are near their 35 make very tough decision if they decide to entry a callege life again as most of those are married, have kids and dependents, they leave their jobs and enter Australia for a new beginning with a plan considering the policies that were in force when they entered.

    Hi Karl! Thank you so much for the update.
    I failed to understand the reasoning behind this statement:
    "The purpose of the age limitation reform is to reposition the Temporary Graduate visa as a product for early career professionals who can contribute to the Australian economy over a LONGER PERIOD."
    Since the 485 is temporary, how could someone contribute over a longer period under this visa?🤦‍♂
    Obviously, they are considering that people who have been granted the 485 are potential PR skilled visa applicants. However, don't skilled visa categories have their own points test system that includes age criteria?

    • @akashvhegde1
      @akashvhegde1 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Not true entirely what govt is saying in other words
      Let me give an example a person lets say 30 year old person applies for a 485 which is valid for 2 yrs right and if the person somehow works in AUS for next 35 years(assuming person is retiring at the age of 65) considering he went onto become a citizen and contributing to economy
      Whereas if you give a person of 35 year old a graduate visa considering he retires in 65 years which means he can work for 30 years i.e so practically loss of 5 years which is a big deal
      So people who are 1988 plus born are indeed alright but before that are thoritically screwed :)

    • @GuilhermeCrepa
      @GuilhermeCrepa Před 2 měsíci +3

      @@akashvhegde1 The difference in contribution time is clear to me. However, my point addresses purely the technicality of DOHA's statement. They talk about long-term contribution, something technically impossible for someone with a temporary visa like the 485 visa. They assume that all 485 holders will eventually become PRs, which may not be the case. For example, I intend to apply for the 485, but at the moment I am not convinced that I will stay permanently in Australia.
      In summary, DOHA uses PR logic to justify decisions made regarding a temporary visa. But, as you said, there may be a valid intention behind this. Although the statement is not clear.

    Hi Karl,
    We appreciate your support. Please can you focus your help now on the students aged 35 and over who are enrolled in coursework master's, since the master's by research and PhD students will not be affected by the new changes? Please, we need your voice in this matter; we have been mentally struggling here since the announcement of these changes, and there is no light in my life, I was enrolled for a master's in 2022 based on promises that I would have a graduate visa, so it was a great opportunity to gain work experience from Australia. Please, we need your help. I am broken, hopeless and devastated, and hundreds are like me, who enrolled in masters (coursework) before the announcements of these changes, which we respect, but we need an exemption as well. Master's courses have contributed to Australia's economy as much as the research graduate did as we have practical skills relevant to Australia's job markets.
    Best wishes,
    Sarah

      I personally think the coursework one is going to be very hard. Up until this day I keep seeing people asking on the facebook group "Can I transfer to the master of social work for easy PR?", or "What master course should I take that has an easier pathway and job opportunities?", etc. These are basically the reason why the government thinks that people do not take coursework master seriously and without any pure intention to study.
      So, people who purely took a masters degree for study (and of course with possible work opportunities) need to work very hard convincing the government because of those people.

    • @Sarahderma
      @Sarahderma Před 2 měsíci

      @@rl2388 The type of degree does not define people's intentions. Theoretically international students would be attracted to do research master's than coursework master's because in coursework, there is a tight schedule, 80% mandatory attendance to on-campus classes, and most importantly, there is a cap on fortnight work hours, the research master's do not put these limitations on students. But people choose what they are passionate about. Coursework offers hands-on training and on-campus learning experiences, and it is as important as the research programs; they complement each other. So please, let's move away from stereotyping people and spreading "opinions" as they are credible facts and statistics. If you witness some coursework students the way you described this, it doesn't mean others are not serious about their studies. I don't deny what you said, but I believe they are not a significant percentage because, as stated, 80% of international students return to their home countries, so 80% are serious; this number may include all Master's (research and coursework), PhD, Bachelor's, and Diploma students.

I'm not sure how these processing times correspond to the actual information on the Home Affairs IMMI website, where it's indicated that for the 190 visa - 50% of applications are processed in 12 months and 90% in 15 months; while for the 491 visa - 50% are processed in 12 months, and for 90% now takes even 24 months! O’Neil is clearly following Michaelia Cash and I wouldn't be surprised if her final act as a minister to ensure the re-election is to cancel thousands of offshore visa applications to the 189 visa and other subclasses like the “24 months processing 491 visa” from those massive rounds of 22-23. With a new points visa system coming and, a new list to be launched, it is so convenient to come up with a cap and cease of non-priority occupations. I share the same feeling about Home Affairs, Australia had everything to use migration for the best interest of society and the department became lame and inefficient. I wish I could have noticed it before.

      If Australia wants to broadcast the world they are no longer welcoming migrants, they can do that, and suffer consequences. They did once before cancelling 175/176 permanent visa applications. All in the name of easing the housing crisis, despite slowly declining natural birth rate, ageing population, shrinking working population, and the desire of becoming a manufacturing powerhouse. Maybe, Australia thinks their tourist industry can be so big that welcoming talented migrants is not really necessary.

    Australian studies aren't worth the cost and time, people use the student visa to seek PR status in Australia (at least a majority of them). This word export the Immigration department is using, is a senseless term, the current perception of prospective students should be ROI, and I can guarantee you the ROI for studies in Australia is very low unless people get work experience and life experience in this country.
    Clare O'Neil who is a publicly known PR feminist machine is going for wins at the cost of peoples futures, but going down the track she will be the one who was known to damage the integrity of the migration system.

I just don’t understand why 186TRT needs employer sponsorship again, but as you can see the government doesn’t want to implement that simple fix, instead spend time on building a brand new visa.

Back in 2015, accountant was one of a handful of popular occupations to have a pro rata system limiting how many could be invited in an invitation round. And based on what I know, many accountants are not competent enough to actually do accounting job. It has been a huge mess lasting a very long time, for about two decades, mainly caused by unscrupulous agents tricking students to study or students wanting an easier degree to finish to get PR.

    Will 189 visa be abolished in the upcoming years?

    • @ailsaustralia
      @ailsaustralia  Před 2 měsíci

      Most likely, yes but a new version will pop up much like this new Skills in Demand visa replacing the 482 visa. Or they may decide just to leave it called the 189

    This rule is a disaster only for current students aged above 35, who was promised 485 visa after they complete there studies. For the future students............ Go to Canada, America, UK etc .......
    But current students can't afford this rule emotionally and financially.

    Your explanation on how PhD graduates apply for further visas using the 485 is an obvious thing to us, but which seems to have gone over the heads of people holding power. I also understand why exceptions and special treatment are given for HK migrants because of their political situation, but I wonder if it is justified for the 485 since they have many other special treatments…

    • @ailsaustralia
      @ailsaustralia  Před 2 měsíci

      yes it makes you wonder why they are having special treatment at all. The same rules should apply to everyone
