When I was in high school art classes my favorite medium was pastels. I haven’t picked them up again since, but now I’m thinking I should give them a go again!
Yes!
Oh, this is so beautiful! I hope you have had a wonderful Mother's day!
Hullo Lindsay, I am just amazed at your flexibility with so many different mediums! I have always been a person who keep all of their mediums separated, or maybe segregated is the term these days? i have done limited mixing of mediums and it appears that is all anyone does on CZcams! The Artist Jamie Jo or Bananajamana is just phenomenal, but she starts her paintings in acrylic then hops into oils! She treats her acrylics as a base. Like it is a gesso sealer, but with her base colors and larger areas filled in! Quite a unique way of working! Well you created another wonderful painting! Thanks again for showing everyone how it can be done!
I think watching your pastel art is even more satisfying than the painting. Maybe because it involves so much more work with the hands? Whatever the reason, I always enjoy watching, even though I don't own pastels! These magnolias turned out wonderful!
Thanks!
Beautiful painting Lindsay. Saw your photos on IG. Looks like you had a lovely Mother's day.
Thank you and Happy Mother’s Day !
That turned out beautiful!! Happy Mothers Day
❤Happy Mothers Day, Lindsay, This is gorgeous 🌸
This is lovely, Lindsay! I thoroughly enjoyed watched these magnolias come to life! I haven’t played with my pan pastels in a long time but always love seeing them in action. Thanks for sharing your creativity and inspiration! Have a great day! 🙂
But also, I have used spectrafix alot on my velour paper, it really brightens the colors back up to like pre-blending(smashing in my work hah) brightness and just makes it even easier to layer up without colors blending into each other making mud or losing super fine details. If you saturate it heavily it will slightly bubble/raise up/curl but if it's taped down and left to dry, just like watercolor paper, it goes back down and just keeps on taking those layers. :) love it
I've wondered about that. It's in a pump bottle, right?
Hi Lindsay,
Thank you for always giving us great videos. You are such an inspiration. Watching you draw or paint, etc... is so calming. I did want to mention that those mushroom daubers that you are using look just like the ones I have purchased for a lot less. I bought some on TEMU and just wanted to let you know since you help us (your viewers) with comparing items. TEMU has a lot of great products. Anyway, have a great day.
Cool, let me know how they work.
This painting is so beautiful! Thank you.
Thanks!
Hi Lindsay, I love how it came out.
Love the bokeh effect! Happy Mama’s Day! ❤❤❤
Beautiful…you had me at Magnolia ❤
Hope you had a great Mother’s Day! Really liking pan pastels and am saving up for the tint set! Thanks for the video.
Lovely painting
You are so gifted using all different mediums! I am anxious to try this! Thank you so very much Lindsay.🤗
Wow! That is stunning 😍
It's such a pretty painting. Thank you for this video. I can't wait to try painting this.
Happy Mother's Day!!!💜💜💜
So pretty!
Beautiful! That's all I've got. 😊
This was great! Thank you. I've not used the Pan Pastels on velour paper, but I've used them on velour, velvet, and suede mat board. I always have to remind myself when moving between them and the sanded papers I prefer. I've had the full set minus the pearlescent pretty much since they came out, but finally broke down and got the five color stack of the blender and the course and fine versions of the pearlescent black and white. I've not used them yet, but this has reminded me that I want to try them on the board with some of those denser oval powder brushes. I've just not gotten around to it yet. I think they'll either work incredibly well or absolutely horrible. 😂. No in between. Considering how well they pick up the pan pastel, it gives me hope. I like your use for the boka effect. I know someone who's going to be hunting down various sized circle sponges now or going outside with a hot tool and various dense materials. Just another thing added to the neverending list of creative crazy.
I know they don't pop as much as on papers and boards you can really see the different layers on due to how the fibers hold the pastels, but I think you did a good job at bringing the flowers forward and capturing the different texture between petals and greenery. The last editions of the soft pastels really popped them forward. Thank you for sharing both your process and the tool tip. 🦋
Pretty. Thanks.
I wanted to let you know Meeden emailed me regarding the watercolor paper I ordered over a wk. Ago. Said it was supposed to be shipped from an Amazon warehouse. But there are issues. So they are shipping it from their own warehouse in China.
Be here in 2 wks.
Just FYI if anyone asks you about that paper. Thanks for what you do. I just love your tutorials.
They might have sold out and had to restock. It's a popular product!
Beautiful!
Beautiful 💖
Happy Mothers Day🌻🪻🌷
Instead of velour paper, have you ever tried archival suede matboard? I find it a happy medium between velour paper and pastelmat. It is awesome for colored pencils as well and spraying fixative at the end really makes the colors pop
I haven't tried it
Love this, I totally use my oxide ink blending tools for my pastels. Whatever works right? Haha. Especially because sofft tools get destroyed sooo quickly with my heavy-handed-ness. Lol and I have zero patience for blending large areas with a tiny little sponge. :😝. Another gorgeous piece of art too by the way! Love it ❤️
Beautiful pastel painting! Happy Mother’s Day 💐🍫🎉
Thank you for your video.
I really want a set of pan pastels. I just ordered a nice set of water mixable oil paint. And I haven't even got them in the mail. Hard to justify buying another expensive supply already. Ugh....soon I shall have them.
The painting is fabulous. I love botanicals. Enjoyed the video as always. Happy Mother’s Day 😊
Hope you had a lovely mothersday! And... Such a fabulous painting, wow, you are such an amázing artist, lóve your work!
that looks very pretty :)
few days ago i´ve get some oil pastells also just for fun ... this is a very other media then the watercolors, watercolor pencils, or watercolor ink that I like ... I´m thinking about if I can use a combination of all that together in one multimediaprojekt... layer by layer ... watercolor first in the background and so on.
Oh joy a piece I can actually make on my pastelmat. Without it feeling as waste lol
I did magnolias in colored pencil on pastelmat a few years ago too!
@@thefrugalcrafter i will look that back up :)
Hi Lindsay! I only have Pan Pastels, and now I know not to waste money on velour paper - thank you! How do you like your new Carbothello pencils? Which one is less dusty between the Carbothello and Nupastels? I'm thinking of getting another set of pastels for detail work with the pans, and I'm not sure which to pick. Happy Mother's Day!
I have not used them enough to say. To be clear I love velour paper but with pastel sticks, not pans.
@thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich I understand. I only have the Pan Pastels and don't want to go down the rabbit hole of getting all the different types/firmness. Maybe I'll just stick with Pan Pastels and colored pencils for details. Thanks for the reply!
Happy Mother's Day Lindsay. Hope your kids spoiled you.
They did!
Is the velour paper kind of like suede mat board? I use pencil crayons on suede mat board - I should try pastels on them....who knows...
Yes!
Lovely painting! I've never tried velour paper. It sounds interesting. I usually use pastelmat but feel like trying something different. Have you tried panpastels on the canson sand grain paper? I'll give this one a go in critique club, thanks Lindsay!
P.S. I just finished inking the carnation from the michaels class and really enjoyed the process. Any chance of some more ink and wash tutorials?
I have not tried that. I plan on more ink and wash tutorials.
Hi ma'am have you seen my Collab email?
I haven't
❤Happy Mothers Day, Lindsay, This is gorgeous 🌸
Beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
