    I was never interested in working in CP because it takes so much time. But being able to do soft backgrounds and the larger areas in pan pastels, and then details in CP is very attractive. And your art work is gorgeous, no matter the medium!

    The few times I have used fixative in the past, I’ve used Lascaux. It doesn’t darken the pastels but you will need to sell a couple of pints of blood or 2nd mortgage your house before you buy it! You are giving great advice by telling people use a somewhat restricted palette because doing so helps a drawing or painting be a unified whole. Also yes, people learn a lot more about color when they must use 5 or 6 colors instead of 24.

    Have you tried the pan pastel colorless blender? It enables smooth transparent effect. Just like you play between your oil and your wax based pencils whether you want smoothness and transparency versus vibrancy and opacity. The panpastel colorless blender provides that for just one pan to your existing set :)
    I hope I sold it well 😎.

      Don't know where you're from but both things can be purchased on Jackson's Art, they ship worldwide. This is obviously not inexpensive. How are you liking the miteintes touch? I picked up a pad months ago but have not gotten around to using it. It looks like it'll be very similar to Pastelmat but it's cheaper where I live. I wonder why almost nobody seems to use it.

    Thanks for the good tips, especially about the paper. But I simply can't agree with your assessment that we should forget washing the sponge tips and just treat them as easily disposable. They are not biodegradable (being made of plastic) and I think most folks would agree that our environment doesn't deserve such a blithe attitude. I have very good results with soaking and squeezing my "spongies" in warm soapy water for a bit and then rinsing and squeezing them out in rags and/or letting them dry on old newspaper. I use my sponge tips gently and have thrown very few (

    • @spiritsjoy
      @spiritsjoy Před rokem +1

      Im not sure what you mean by using the tips gently. If you use them on the proper paper, they fray and break down very quickly. Not sure what kind of work you produce, but these are definitely not worth washing much like you dont wash a Q tip.

    What's wrong with Prismacolor? Your remark, "Like I would use Prismacolor" was a bit offputting. They're good and valid, relatively inexpensive artist colours. Not everyone can afford Derwent or Polychromos.

    • @Lachri
      @Lachri  Před 2 lety +1

      About half the colors are not lightfast and have no quality control. Very hit or miss if you get a pencil with a decent wood casing. They're not saving much money when you burn through pencils that keep breaking. Yes, I know all the tricks to "fix" one, but I'm not wasting my drawing time trying to fix my art supplies that shouldn't be broken in the first place.
      If you like them great! I don't. 🤷‍♀️
