One note about flight time:
I was flying the 5200mah Li-Ion pack down to about 3v per cell and was seeing about 23:30 flights. With upgrade energy Li-Ions you can safely fly down to 2.7v per cell. This pushes flight time past the 25 minute mark!
Very excited to share this build with you guys. I don't fly much long range but now that I built this beast I can already tell long range is going to be one of my new favorite FPV pastimes.

little tip for the buzzer: instead of always taking a pair of tweezers with you, just plug in the battery after unpluging it, wait a few seconds (i just wait until the esc started up) and disconnect the battery and the buzzer stops beeping.
Just gave this a shot and had no idea that was a way to turn the buzzer off. Thanks for sharing!
Pinning this 🙌🙌
@@TRONCATFPV That's one of its main selling points, replugging the battery for 2s to stop the beeper is just so convenient
Yeah, that is such a convenient feature. Got one on my main freestyle quad squished between the cam and the ESC. There's no way to get to the button there so that is the only way to turn it off.
I built the same drone with the same buzzer and you can pretty much stick your finger to press the button for 2-3 seconds to turn it off.
bet tip ever!
It costs about $704
Cheers mate doing gods work
You rock. Thank you
Thanks bro
1000 dollars in a year
Hey bro , and how can I get the controller and the goggles pls ?
Great video, and I would like to build one on the same frame. Please don't take this the wrong way, constructive criticisms only! :) I've completed soldering classes that only AF avionics and NASA techs go to, so I may know a thing or two about soldering. 1- Don't use so much solder. Solder is not glue, and less is better, especially on something that vibrates. Too much solder leads to cold solder joints and adds to the joint mass, causing it to rip the pad off the board due to vibration eventually; and not to mention that fat messy joints can lead to a short. Flux your pad, then your wire. Tin your wire (lightly where you can still see the individual strands, but they are tinned silver), then place the tip of the tinned wire onto the pad, letting the surface contact and heat from the iron melt the solder out of the wire, and onto the pad. An ideal joint will look like a tinned wire stuck to a tinned pad with a tiny fillet on either side of the wire. Any solder joint that has a convex surface is generally considered too much. 2- Set your temperature right. Too hot can cause damage to your controller, so if you aren't using a heatsink, you can damage it and/or fry the pad off the board. Too cold, and you will cause cold solder joints that will pop off eventually. Choose a temp that readily melts the solder, but isn't burning, around 275f - 320f, this will depend on the diameter and composition of your solder, and your ambient air temp. 3- Don't be scared to use more flux. Get yourself some flux paste and a small acid brush. Flux the crap out of all surfaces to be soldered on. Flux cleans the surface and promotes adhesion. After you are done soldering, get an old toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol and scrub off the dried flux. I know pro drone folks have been doing this for years and they've had no problems, blah, blah, blah... however, I prefer to eliminate all possibilities that my soldering isn't going to be a reason for any failure.
Great info 👍
Lots of knowledge being dropped. That’s why I love this community everyone is just here to help. Thank you 🙏
Really good info, and respectfull! Noice.
Very informative, thank you.
Bro managed to yap interestingly and very fact full
I really appreciated this format of drone build. Zero distractions from the build itself and it came together in a super concise way. The entire watch was extremely relaxing, too.
Glad you enjoyed it! I try and keep these build videos easy for everyone to understand, showing every step required to get the quad in the air 🙌
I am just blown away with the quality of your work in EVERY respect; the video, the craftsmanship in building this drone and your presentation itself. I want to use your videos as an aid to interest my grandson in drones and all aspects of the engineering that goes into them. Thank you for this and ALL of your most excellent videos.
Awesome! You did everything including footage in less than an hour. Thumbs up for the patience of making those videos and sharing your knowledge with us!
Glad you dig the video! I think this is the longest video on my channel haha. Very happy with how the quad came out 🙌
Your the reason i built my first dron... was excited to see a new video from you pop up in my feed. Keep it up my guys! Clean and clear right to the point
I’m pretty sure it’s one guy… lol
I just love how quads today are almost plug and play. Remember those days of individual escs and pdbs?! Great video.
Best and most detailed build series on youtube!! Thank you !! Subscribed!
14:57 You say "Flux Capacitor" brought me back....... back to the FUTURE!!! Great vid dude!
That little trick you did with the GPS wires is making the wires a "grounded shield" and its very effective at protecting wires from EMF. Good work 👍
Yes, but only the UART lines to the GPS module are shielded. This wont help the modules itself to get satellites faster...
@@johnnymartini1072 exactly, and any wire connected to earth at one place is technically an antenna, so if the length was unfortunate it could resonate and induce noise on the wires, though the twist should counter any common mode signal.
@@garethsmith7628 What I did not knew at this point was, that the noise induced to the power lines seems to be the problem. Therefore I would agree to the theory of shielding the cable. Because noise on the communication lines would lead to communication errors.
Beautiful build. Thanks for the video. I'm building a 7 inch. And I really needed this. Appreciate it!
I like your setup bro!
Honestly, the best guide video that I've seen!
I use my mini to scout for fishing and ice climbs. A drone like this is a game changer
Only real builders can truly explain how valuable blutac is to this hobby,...😉
A legendary fpv person... 👍👍👍👑...all perfect setting and neat clean...
This is so awesome! I wish I could learn to fly something like this. What an awesome hobby.
You have a Gift of electronics, sharing and instruction. Thank you! Subscribed.
As a 2nd Gen GS owner, I approve of the intro video haha. Awesome videos man, super helpful for a newbie like myself. Always very detailed explanations.
WOW super awesome, super informative well thought out build video, definitely will use this to build my next 7" LR FR7, thanks for sharing!
What a great and detailed build-video. Awesome!
Thank you for putting together this build video. You list all the parts and go through all the steps, which goes to show it's approachable with some careful attention and patience. You've got me convinced to build rather than buy my first FPV quad!
the design of the parts is excellent.
Dude, I consider myself very experienced in drones and electronics, but I learned many useful things from your video. Thanks!
Can you tell me a couple things I missed. If you don't know or just don't wanna answer its all good
1st. How did he connect the drone to the computer
2nd do you know if the software he was using is free?
3rd can I buy any remote control and headset to pair up to this drone?
@@thatguy0424 1st USB-A To USB-C Cable. 2nd Betaflight is an open source project that 90+% of FPV Pilots use. Yes its free, although I'm sure they would greatly appreciate your donation. 3rd That would be ideal since otherwise you would have a very expensive paperweight.
Holy Jesus... Do you ever have a great way of presenting your build. Well done. Very informative and easy to follow along. Keep up the great work.
thank you 🙌
Very clean build! Im working on one myself now….. thanks you gave me ideas
Absolutely awesome and you explain very good in details. Thank you so much.
where you been bro!!!
ive been flying the heck out of my 2022 budget build !!
thanks for getting me into fpv
Love the build also ! just now ordered some parts to build my own!!
Excellent job mate .. thanks for uploading 👍
That looks like so much fun to fly
Great job! Gets me ready to build one.
I love building and build videos 👍🏻
can't wait to check out that long range flight to that island.
Im gonna try this for my first build thank you brother
Absolutely great. I am so happy I stumbled upon your video. I can do this without breaking the bank. Appreciate the effort in putting the video together.
Do you know what the modification would be for eLRS instead?
AMAZING and AWESOME video, very very good information 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 good job dude! 🤙🏼🤘🏻
Thank you so much for sharing with us, all your videos help me a lot 🙏👍
Glad this helped ya! 🙌
I have not built a drone yet, ready made so far. After watching your video, I am absolutely going to build one. Already downloaded Betaflight! Thanks for making a video that actually shows "How to do it"!!
Glad my video helped!
Thanks for the video bro! Keep up the good work! God bless you
Thanks for this detailed video❤
Brilliant project Congratulations
Mad props for the links!!! Thanks man!
I like that blue tack trick for holding the capacitor.
Awesome stuff man really, I’m miles behind with the software familiarization but I’m definitely using this as my blueprint so thanks for taking the time. I got a dji air2s not too long ago and I’m hooked
Air 2s is my go-to drone for photography 🙌
that ball of sticky-tack is friggin' brilliant!
Thanks for the video. Very good job. 🤘
sick long range fpv build, bruh. I was thinking of saving up and getting a prebuilt iFlight Chimera 7 or the GEPRC Croc75 but now I don't know, I enjoy building and putting together drones as well, lots of fun.
i learned something new from your video , thank you and keep going.
I was one of the first to fly allot of long range fpv . I miss it and racing. Nice quad
This is crazy awesome!
Love it, thanks for sharing man, making it a lot easier for us noobs to understand!!
Thats the goal! 🙌🙌
Thx a lot! Just building a foxeer aura 7 DCLR. Good info for me!
Great video and build. Never insulated the gps cables but very neat.
Awesome vid - now on my to-do list!
Curious: have you ever considered using copper loom for shielding, instead of rolling your own? And would shielding the motor wires help with RF leakage?
I flew to Bakers few years back with my mavic, it's fun.. Started at Beverly beach , over misery isl . winds are usually south west so keep that mind in planning safe route back.. maybe landing at Manchester Harbor as backup plan
bro thank you so much. i have bin hesitant about building
Awesome Build! I love the GPS trick. It must act as a shielding for the GPS's wires out to the GPS Antenna Rcvr itself. I wonder if you could do this same thing with the other antennas going over the FC or something noisy, like the RX, Digital AU/VTX or Analog VTX Antenna Leads, etc.. maybe get some better Range as well.
One thing i noticed with my older TBS M8 GPS FPV size module is that I used to get 10-12 satellites in a matter of 10-15 secs and then it would reach as high as 21, but at least 15-20 Sats normally and never lose them.
Now with the O3 Air Unit finally in because of camera fitment and waiting on parts, i have the Digital in and I have to wait that full 1min or so to get enough Sats for GPS Rescue and all that.
It also wont just gain antennas as it goes, it will just all of a sudden go from 0 to 5-6 in the initial wait and then another few seconds and its at about 12 Sats is my normal now, maybe 15max once, but i havent seen it again. 11-13 normally now.
Everything still works fine with the GPS and the Drone will remember the Home Spot and all that if you lose GPS a few times during flight, and lose all the gps features like DTH and the H arrow, but its able to recover and still do a GPS Landing, which is good for a far away Failsafe where you probably wont find it or be able to even get it.. Its a chance it will make it back at least closer and maybe get video or signal back. So far its actually worked great for me, its lands super smooth at the end and its pretty damn accurate for small gps only
I like that frame as well, and the parts list was probably more high quality for the preset checkbox lol.
What kind of range increase do you get with the longer O3 Air Unit Antenna's? And im guessing the diversity TBS T antennas are mounted at the two different orientation's for picking up a signal from all directions better or did it just work out like that? Ive only ever used the XF Nano RX. But ive been planning on building a Long Range out of the 7" drone frame and setup i have already that i got on a combo sale, the brand is raggio i believe. Its nice im just not sure if thats a popular brand or not. I looked on the HGLRC wesbite and i really like that Rekon5 F5 HD frame kit.. I have an analog iflight nazgul5 xl5 v2 6s. Its not a bad drone really, especially for the price i got it for on sale with a CRSF Nano RX already installed as well. $120..
Anyway, i wanted to just add my O3 Air Unit to this one but the frame is kind of too narrow in the center for the 20mm camera for the O3 and it has no front camera protection for a camera that style. So i figured id put the electronics into a nicer frame, add the O3, add the gps. And then use spare parts to build up the iflight again and just use it with analog..
I actually assumed that for a long range build you basically needed to use Analog to really get that range out there.. What is your best range for the video connection? Also if you lose video, can you just hit the failsafe and the gps will start flying it back closer until you regain video and can continue flying..!
Bro. Thank you very much. I will build my first fpv
That is very impressive ...i was looking for a retirement winter project..
Don't know why i'm watch this but i like it alot :)
Nice build. I started building exclusively 7" quads - love the way they fly. Have to give you one tiny nudge - long-range builds always get a vertical antenna - horizonal (diversity or not) is for flying around your house ;)
What’s the best way to mount a vertical antenna, in your opinion?
@@garrettadams2851 I mount them to the camera mount. I go in tinkercad, add 2 hollow 5mm rings about 30mm apaert and stick them to the side of the flight cam mount (if you are using a proprietary flight cam mount and not a printed one, you can just make a standoff mount) and stick the antenna in there (I fly crossfire or dragonlink - this method is for the crossfire immortal T). That way, my contol link is in the least ideal position when flying away from myself, but the most ideal position when flying towaerds myself - this allows you to fly to your control limit (which should theoretically never happen) and not failsafe when turning and beginning the return trip. If you do get near your limit, you can improve control link by turning home.
Do you have any good resources for guys looking to build a good POV, long range drone, have design/fabrication means, but not so good with the coding/auto-pilot stuff?
Waiting for the parts to come in besides the camera since it’s above the price point for me xD As a beginner i’m very excited so I look forward to using this video as my bible!
I don't even fly a drone but I watched this whole video. Def interested
Nice build, would like to see one of those little plastic plates above the fc to stop the buzzr/cam/GPS wiring rattling against it
by the by GREAT Informative video.
Awesome video - makes me feel confident about doing my own build 😀
What changes would you recommend for someone wanting to mount a GoPro (or similar) on a gimbal for higher video quality?
Super, das Teil Bau ich demnächst nach 👍
THANK YOU!
Grat video, you deserve more views
great vid. thx a lot.
Awesome video - makes me feel confident about doing my own build. What changes would you recommend for someone wanting to mount a GoPro for higher video quality?
Thank you so much for your easy to follow videos . I feel more confident and knowledgeable about building my own fpv uav . Great work bud 👍
great tutorials👍
You earned a smirk 😏
Great teaching, I will def. going to build that 7" A little fast on the mouse but overall Great teaching Thanks
I almost missed Work becous it so nice to Watch you bulid
god damn thats huge
This is v good love it
You don’t need dshot beacon enabled as you have a real buzzer. Great build 👍🏻
I needed this video last week!!! Great build. I need to switch my cap mounting to the way you used it. Mine kept shorting out on the frame
That hole at the front of the frame is perfect for the capacitor, especially with how tight this frame is
You can use Sony VTC6 18650 Lithium-Ions..It is 3000 mAh and 15 A a piece. Weighs 640 grams in total at 6S2P config.
Thank you sir
Good job bro 🤘🏻
Thank ya! ✌️
bro use heat shrink on both ends of the wire mesh on the motor wires so it looks cleaner and doesn't move around 👍
White mountains would be dope
Very good Video :)
Great video, I’ll probably follow this for my 7” build. Question about O3 unit and osd. What goggles are you using and did you have to root them? I’m still trying to set up osd.
That is hell of a great video! Well done and thank you for the hard work.
In case I'd like to go with ELRS instead of crossfire, what would you recomand to use?
Thanks!
amazing
The timing of this video couldn’t have been more perfect I was looking for a long range build, also what kind of top speed can you get out of this
cruising I was seeing about 50-60mph
Awesome video, I am now inspired and want to build this. Just out of curiosity did you ever send the drone out to the island? If you are willing to share I would also like to know what flight controller / fpv googles you are using with this setup that would be good for that kind of range?
I must have missed it what transmitter are you using? This was the best build I've seen and the footage was stunning. Thank you for doing this.
Thank you for this vid! I want to use a regular analog video system on this. What size camera should I get to mount in the provided 03 camera mount? Also, do you think HGLRC has made TPU mounts for this frame that work with an analog camera?
its cool. i like it
I just built the same frame. I used the Mamba F722s and the F50 pro. But I had a question on the kHz, why did you choose that?
Thank you for making this video! I've got one question, what video receivers there are for connecting the DJI O3 camera transmitter with and is it only compatible with the dji video transmitters?
Thank you in advance!
New vid hype
Do I have to use the DJI O3 air unit? Or could I do a Caddx Vista to help save on costs?
Is the frequency switching from 2.4 to 5.8 on the o3 unit an issue with 5.8 antennas ? Seems like all prebuilt quads with o3 are not using the multi band single antenna that comes with the o3 unit.
