- In the sea of Sub250 O3 tinywhoops that I've tested in the last year, there hasn't been one that is capable of carrying a naked GoPro that remains under 250g.
AND if you're using sub250g drones under a part 107 you'll also "need" RID...
So, in this video I'll show you how to build one yourself.

Easily one of the best front to back tutorial builds on CZcams. This dude just showcased how much knowledge he has on the matter. Hope to fly w you when I’m in Mass.
I've just finished my first ever build with the advice given throughout this video, which I must have watched at least 50 times.
I had to take another 2-inch cinewhoop frame because the QAV-Pro Nano was no longer available, otherwise I used the same components except for the Remote ID and the switch, which I don't need. I'll do a test this afternoon and get back to you. Anyway, thanks Troncat for these videos full of tips and advice, I learn 3x faster with you.
hey, I would love to hear how it went!
watching something that i will never do but interesting to watch :)
I watched tons of building videos because I thought they are cool and I knew I will never build my own drone. 3 years later, I'm building my own drones.... :D :D
I like the step by step tutorials and this guy makes it look super easy I feel confident I can do this after watching this guy and I’ve only owned a cheap $40 dollar quad from Walmart 😂😂😅😅
Same ;)
Crazy tutorial just what i've been searching, next week I'll try to make it with ELRs thanks!
Thanks for finally making a long video, really detailed and very creative.
have not watched a second yet, but i already know its gonna be the holy grail of cinewhooping
This video is helpful for beginners like me, Thanks ❤❤
this thing is insane. bro i am really love your build videos. i will surely build your long range fpv
I will be doing the same with my Pavo20. Thank you for showing this off.
Awesome build, thanks for all the details and for sharing it!
love your videos man!!
waiting for your 2024 5" freestyle drone budget build video🙏
You keep coming out with drone builds for drones I didn’t know I needed! 😅😂
Exactly what i needed thank you !!
I have the same aio board I used to replace a stock junk one on my rekon 4fr and love it! Great aio for the price.
truly a goat for this!
This sold me on the qav micro, I went with the 2.5”
Well done video
QAV micro is an awesome frame 👌
I’ve been setting up USER1 switches for my drones with O3 Air Units so when I’m setting up betaflight or tuning with a battery my O3 unit doesn’t over heat. It’s very helpful especially with drones with GPS on a cold start to acquire the satellites.
Bro I just got my first 3 hours in the simulator and you already makes me want to build this drone lol
I need one of these
Great video
Super build! What's the flight time with that 720mAh battery?
really like it😍
Thanks for shareing the videos been really helpful with my build, I cant seem to get you CLI dump link to open anyone else had this issue
Awesome video as ever. Please can o ask which electric tool driver you use?
Ive had bad luck with 2 of those HakRC AIO's .... I hope you have better luck 🤞🏻 switched to the reaper aio's and they've been great... Great upload
Out of curiosity what issues did you experience with it? Good to know on the reaper AIO, it’s been on my radar!
@@TRONCATFPV 2 different ones the USB stopped working and on one it stopped displaying the BF OSD... I'm actually about to start building this next week. Do you have a stl file for the naked flywoo case? I have the reaper AIO in my cinebot. Has always worked flawlessly.
Just finished this build, amazing video. I was wondering if there’s a way to power the Dronetag bs with microusb instead of the LiPo when it’s behind the vtx switch like that. Takes a while to get satellite lock and would be cool if there was a way to get that done on a battery pack and then plug in the lipo, just can’t figure it out. Thanks!
thank you!!!
The rcvr is also a transmitter. Telemetry lost message is when your data drops from the drone to you
I am new to FPV buying gear now. What googles do you use with this build. Great work by the way and thanks for sharing
I’d love to hear your GoPro settings for variable lighting such as starting outdoors and going indoors. I’d imagine you use 4k60 8:7 and ISO 100 to 400 or 800. Do you lock shutter or have it on auto or with a minimum set at 180°
Appreciate your time!
Roughly how long does a build like this take you? I would assume a novice builder (like me) would need more than double or triple the time but I'd like to have a ballpark idea of the time commitment if you don't mind. Great video btw and exactly the thing I want to have one day (sub250 with O3 and GoPro).
Thanks for the review. Cool. Be sure to insert a balancer for the naked gopro, you can directly solder the wire to the board? 4s
you could do that if you wanted. I just power the Naked GoPro off the balance lead.
Hey Tron, I appreciate your videos. I wanted to ask since I'm pretty new to this; I'm looking to build/buy a cinewhoop or bigger drone and currently have a BETAFPV Cetus. Its too light and has sh*tty range, and I want better footage than analog DVR. I bought a pair of Fatshark Echos and I also have a DJI FPV 2 controller. Is there a certain setup I could use that is compatible with both the analog goggles I have and the DJI Controller?
About to build this myself. Does the capacitor ship with the flight controller? I don’t see it in the parts list.
You said you’re props out but motor tab shows props in? Is this because the motors are upside down?
Rid question.
I assume the rid acts as a normal gps and can be used for lost signal recovery/gps rescue ?
And why bother putting on a switch? Why not just leave on all the time, I get indoor outdoor sense but is there a con or problem with just leaving on ? I’d imagine if your powering on indoor gps lock will delay and over head quad? Reason for off switch ? And how many sats need to lock for takeoff and how quick does it get there? Say 7 sats.
Thanks asking for my qav nano and redkyte build. . Always look forward to your vids 👍🏼
You gotta try an O3 discus
clean
can I swap out the DJI O3 Air Unit with CADDX Polar Starlight and still be under 250g? thx looks sweet!
Do you prefer the qav 2" or 2.5" with a naked gopro? i already have a 3" but want something smaller for indoor/real estate type work, cant decide if I should go 2" or 2.5"
Great video, i have a question about what cinewhoop to get. After fliing FPV for a year now after 6 years of mavics (watch my channel), i ended up with 5 drones and one of them is a cinelifter. I want to get started with Real Estate videos and after searching for a cinewhoop i found these two options under 250g: First is the more expensive version by "red kyte zwei" witch has a gopro in the frame but has probably the best fly performance and can be used also for some sport shots (2in1). And the second option this drone in your video witch has the advantage that i would decase my existing gopro witch i use still across all of my drones. So i wouldnt have to buy a gopro just for that 2in1 drone. I am now in a dilemma, I dont know if the second option still flies good when used in sports. If you can recomend something it would be great. (*It has to be dji o3 and elrs)
Thank you for the tutorial @troncatfpv ! I bought the frame right away!
at 2:28 you mention that expressLRS receiver is compatible, but now I am ordering the parts and I see at specifications only:
Receiver: CRSF / Frsky/ Futaba/ Flysky/
TBS Crossfire/ DSMX: DSM2 receiver
no mention of ExpressLrs in the specifications :(
you can use an ELRS receiver with this build. What is saying those specifications?
Friend, I have the same settings, would you mind making the tuning used available?
Holy shit I had no idea those vtx switches existed. That would have saved me about $200 worth of TBS unify's if I had know about them a year ago. The area I fly in is very easy to locate lost drones but very difficult to actually get to them. I've burned up 4 or 5 vtx modules now while my drone was stuck somewhere I couldn't get to it to turn it off
Beautiful build! How’s the flight characteristics compared to the 2.5? I think you definitely found a nice balance of light, probably quieter and safer drone to fly around people. Curious how it does on gentle dive / split s with the naked GP
This little guy performs surprisingly well outdoors even in mild wind. In that exterior shot of Supercharged the sun was setting and we needed to quickly get outside to film. This drone was the only one I had on hand at the moment and I was like, screw it, lets send it and see what it can do.
Performed way better than I anticipated tbh. Didn't do much freestyle flight but performed great in dives with the GP11.
Nice! Appreciate the detailed reply.
Hello there. I was searching for your patreon but can t find it. Would be happy to support !
I was wondering, would recommand the nano frame or the 2.5 " frame ? ANd is there a big difference from your experience with others cinewoops frames ?
Whats the benefit of being under 250g while flying under part 107 if you still need to be remote I'd compliant? Is it just so that it is category 1 for OOP or are there more benefits?
Thank you again for sharing! Another cool video. shame in Australia the frames are around 150plus post.ill keep n eye out for when they drop. cheers!
What if i want to use analog? What would you reccomend for this build?
@troncat fpv where’d you get that mini screwdriver
where is the balance lead from?
is a naked o3 important to making this fly well? or is it just if i want to keep it sub250g?
We should FLOOD the country with remote ID every weekend!!!
what flight time was you averaging with this drone?
Please review the avata 2, I want to know if it could potentially replace my entire indoor real estate setup. (I also use the same frame and gopro as you, love it, but would like some sensors and emergency hover on the avata 2)
Mine is getting delivered Monday! Got some projects we're taking it out on and I'll report back 👍
@@TRONCATFPV Awesome! I’ll be the first to watch it. Really looking forward to what the avata will do for the fpv industry. Also hoping the 04 (when it comes out) will finally be a gopro replacement
@@TRONCATFPV Still no video of avata 2?
Does it fly similar to velocidrone fpv simulator?
I got the switch and RID working perfectly except one thing. My OSD from betaflight is gone in my goggles. I can not figure out what I did wrong. Under my ports tag UART 1 appears to be my camera. It is an o3 plugged in. Nothing was wired to UART1 on my board so this is where I put the switch. Is it possible this is my problem?
Hey super nice video!!! I have built similar set up just with QAV Micro Frame and flying with Flywoo naked GoPro 11 + Tattu 450mah 4s battery. Unfortunately after approximately 40-50s of flight goPro stops recording. Do you have similar experience?
If you're using a slower memory card you'll run into shorter record times. You'll also run into shorter record times if you're using a naked case that doesn't offer sufficient cooling, this will cause the gopro to overheat and shut down.
Also, QAV micro frame slaps just as hard as this nano frame.
Honestly the whole QAV line is pretty tight lol
I’ve now watched this 2 times and one time stoned.
Tip: use an expresslrs ep2 reciever to save weight it will still outdo your video link
Why not use the 03 transmission system am i missing something by buying my drones PNP? Presumably without RID and ELRS it will be 6-8g lighter?
This drone does use the O3 transmission, just not for radio link.
I prefer to use crossfire on all my professional equipment and don't want to be limited to DJI's controller.
Why don't you choose a BLHeli_32 AIO instead of BLHeli_S?
Why 24 pwm. With o3 it should be 48 or not?
my drone tag's gps isn't working, only the remote ID. Also in Betaflight the gps doesn't light up... Any help?
How loud is it? Tone?
is it possible to switch the o3 out with an analogue thingy?
Yes. You could add a foxeer or caddx or any analog camera and a diatone 1.6watt vtx or higher watt vtx. Analog isn't preferred as it does not have as good of penetration as digital systems such as djis o3 unit. Meaning you would get much worse signal breakup between walls of a house. Outside isn't much of an issue. Also. Analog might increase the drones weight
So can the GPS be used for RTH? I am so curious about this? The new Lumenier one sounds like it might. But still unclear on this.
I think it works for RTH
Bopping and weaving for your parts you linked because they’re SOLDOUT! Can’t find rush antenna, I have the tango 2 pro with crossfire so identical build? Can’t believe I’m diving down this rabbit hole as my first build🤦♂️
CLI Dump link sends me to some weird site with some notification requests. Is there another link for the CLI? Also, Thanks a ton for this great build video.
did you ever get it? dudes been ignoring my messages
@@justkillen07 Nope, I just followed along with the end of the video and set it up. I also figured that I had enough unique changes to my config that It was overall better to just configure betaflight on my own instead of using CLI. My build flies great tho!
@@gmanFPV did you use the same motors? you carrying a naked gp too? because it doesnt want to fly higher than 5" and the motors got really warm like they were struggling
@justkillen07 mine flies great. Same motors. Almost everything is the same, except I do not have the pit switch. Are you running the same props? Are you sure they are not upside down? I had a hard time telling which side should be up. I followed the tuning steps except I left airmode on instead of having it on a switch and I did not do any pit switch stuff.
What's the flight time roughly?
Would ypu recommend this setup for walksnail avatar hd pro kit? I see thst frame is designed for dji o3 :s
I can't recommend that setup as i'm unsure if the avatar would fit this frame
Do you need remote ID if you are flying under the part 107 license?
Yes, you’ll need RID regardless of the drones weight
What powers the go pro without the battery? where did you connect and what to?
The GoPro just connects via the balance cable that flywoo includes with their naked GoPro kits. You could opt to solder a power cable directly to the flight controller if you prefer.
I'd personally prefer the QAV 2.5" frame with 1303.5 5000kv motors on 4S with only the O3 for recording. Similar to your last years sub250g cinewhoop. Just qav frame instead of the pavo25 frame
Hopefully sometime soon the O4 can replace the gopro
Do you know If the Moonlight would fit into the qav25?
QAV2.5” frame is killer. I have a few drones on that frame as well with the same AIO and an O3. The QAV line in general is pretty damn nice.
Would love to see 8:7 or at least 4:3 5k on the O4. High hopes!
@@TRONCATFPV O4 is coming? 11/9 April? I have to buy a new O3, is it better to wait for the new O4?
I would personally wait for now.
If O4 is coming out, O3 will go down in price and O4 will be the new king.
how much did the build cost
This is a very nice build🫠
Even though you don't need RID indoors why even worry about turning it off with a switch? Just keep it on and ignore it?
Any idea what the best 2-3inch cinewhoop frame to look into is?. Cheers
Im a big fan of lumeniere’s QAV line. They have a 2” and 2.5” frame that are awesome.
Just did a whole build tutorial using the 2” frame a week or two ago 🤙
@@TRONCATFPV yea great video!. You prefer these QAVs to the cinebot line by any chance?. Thanks for any input
Doesn’t the o3 guide from dji say not to use 24 pwm because it can interfere with the o3 gyro?
the majority of my quads are running 24pwm and I haven't had any issues.
If your camera is soft-mounted correctly, 24pwm won't cause any vibrations in your cam footage
Do you use flux to solder the small pads?
yup! always use flux, it will help a lot on this board
How is the flight time with 720mah battery?
Can't believe I forgot to include this in the video lol.
With the 720mah I see about 4/5 Minutes
Hi , nice video. I am newbie and i love drone world but i don't want to buy a builed-drone... so after watching your video wanna know which rc controller i should buy ? a controller that i will use for other drones that i will build myself ... thank you for answering
If I may share my opinion, anything by Radiomaster will be a good option. Radiomaster pocket is the budget but still good option. Radiomaster Boxer is probably the best for the price.
Other than Radiomaster anything with EdgeTX will be great. ELRS is probably the best radio link to go with. Crossfire is good too but is a little more expensive
@@fpvkye7414 hi, thank you for your kind reply. So i want to stay on budget controller radiomaster pocket but they ask for "region" -> fcc or lbt ???
Another question, for the "beginner drone" instead ? thank you for your time
What country are you located in? The FCC is for compliance in the USA and LBT is Europe. FCC version will have a higher output power as Europe has a 100mw output limit I believe.
I’m not sure I understand your second question. Could you try asking it in a different way?
@@fpvkye7414 good morning mate !
I am situated in Italy .
The last question was : which drone i should buy for start ? Not Dji because i love making stuff on my way.
The above website will have all the parts you need and info about them. I’m assuming you want to do outdoor fun flying which would
Lead you to drones in the 5” class. The Joshua bardwell kit is great as JB has a full build series detailing every step of the way. All the tools and recommended parts are listed on his site too.
In terms of what video system you’d want you have a few options:
Analog is the cheapest and lightest. Has worked for years and is very simple to use. Low video quality though
HD-Zero is kind of in between digital and analog. Very low latency and better visual quality than analog. Ideal for racing
You have two digital options available:
DJI
Highest latency of all the video links but highest video quality. Works pretty flawlessly but pretty much no room for cross compatibility
Walksnail
Slightly lower latency than DJI similar video quality. A little more compatibility with other stuff (standalone vrx modules to run on analog or hdzero goggles)
However it may be slightly more buggy
waiting for 2024 build freestyle fpv
Would a caddx moonlight fit as well? I mean in size dimensions. In know it would be heavier
I will check this later today and will report back 👍
Off the bat I know the moonlight has two antennas instead of 1 so you’d have to figure out how to mount those
@@TRONCATFPVthat would be nice If you Check that! The antenna should Not be a Problem :)
@@TRONCATFPV If you are looking IT would be interesting If It fits into the 20 or 25 . Thanks:)
Can you fly this drone with the DJI remote controller and the goggles 2
yup!
Why do you use 2.4 antenna instead of 868/915?
That antenna is 900mhz, don’t be fooled by its size 🤙
Hello what ur thought about avata 2
Not sure yet! Ordered one yesterday for testing. I’ll be posting a review in the next few weeks!
Would this build be compatible with walksnail?
If you added a walksnail VTX, yes
can you please fix the CLI link! i just followed your build/tune but the drone doesn't want to go higher than a few inches off the ground with my flywoo naked gp. doesn't have the RID but still at the 249 weight..
Link should be working now 🤙
Not sure what happened with that!
@@TRONCATFPV thank you, the link is working now BUT i've noticed, in your other build with this frame that it has different motors (green ones) have you flown this exact drone with the naked gopro? Because i followed this built to the T, minus the tbs antenna (have a smaller one) but the motors are struggling to fly higher than 5 inches off the ground with the naked gp. i thought it was the tune but after dumping the cli in with the working link, its still barely hovering! PLEASE LET ME KNOW, i built this drone for a gig
@@TRONCATFPV PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!
@@justkillen07 I only have one build on this frame and it’s with these exact parts. It sounds like you may be looking at my QAV 2.5” that uses mamba motors. That’s a completely separate drone that I have never featured in a build.
What happens when you arm the drone and give it throttle? Also, what batteries are you using?
Is it silent? Or a lawn mower in the air?
I mean, its a drone.
Its not silent, but it definitely doesn't sound like a lawnmower.
dontyou have to use a 900 elrs antenna im lead to believe you cannot use a 2.4 elrs antenna?
That is a 900mhz antenna, just a smaller one
They work great on smaller builds like this
can you tell us how to connect drone and radio
This will vary depending on what receiver you’re using and what radio
@@TRONCATFPV got it
! “Golden nut” between the frame and the AIO is misssing !
(otherwise great video 👍)
cant you just directly go to pinio?
??
You mean completely bypass the VTX switch? Without the VTX switch I used theres no way to turn the RID module on and off since you need another UART.
To fly through multiple walls better to install the full size tbs antenna, innit?
I haven't noticed any difference.
I actually have one Cinewhoop with the large TBS immortal T and the rest with the small one used in this video. I notice no difference in penetration capabilities between the two antennas.
Need to save 4ish grams to get nd filters on there
11:44
This build gives me claustrophobia
Only one thing that needs work... your camera needs to focus! Lol
What is the reason for turning off remote id when indoors? seems like unnecessary added weight
You "need" RID when flying outdoors.
Don't need it when flying indoors.
Switch just makes it easy to turn on and off as needed
Remote id. 🤣🫵
