By useless I always mean essentially useless, and aircraft (bombers) that hide and don't even bomb are legitimately a useless slot in the team. It's rare, but I've seen it a few times.

I've rarely seen bombers who use appropriate tactics and sacrifice as a good bait for right timing.
Instead, any monkey can fly straight to base, drop some bomb, and get killed or J out... or, dock to ISS

I like aiming for a bomber’s cockpit more than their wings, mulching the pilots keeps them from getting any cheeky turret revenge kills.

If you don't succeed in killing the pilots, then the damage is pretty minor. If you go for wings, even if you don't rip the wing it still becomes hard to control. Cheeky turret revenge kills are rare enough haha.

This has to be my favorite 4.7 aircraft for the U.S. tree. I had an interesting occurrence with either the F4U-1C or F4U-4. It was the first time I used MEC on a Corsair and was dragging 3 enemies down from altitude on Ruhr. I forgot to change supercharger gears from 2 to 1 when i got to the deck and the max engine rpm warning started flashing. I had to be going 380-420 mph IAS. As soon as I switched to gear 1 I lost 40 mph and got shot down in the following seconds. I haven't tried to recreate this situation but have wondered ever since how the supercharger would have been even working in a positive way on the deck.
Hmm that's weird. How long ago did it happen? Did you see your engine take damage before getting hit?
@@AdamTheEnginerd I had this happen this past year. It would have been either 1.91 or early 1.93. And I didn't get engine damage. This was probably due to just barely touching the rpm limit as the message was flashing erratically
If it didn't take damage, then your engine was fine and that shouldn't have been the cause of your speed loss. Can't say what was though.
@@AdamTheEnginerd Yeah it was really strange. I just realized I didn't say this but the max rpm message stopped after I switched gears. Whenever I finish downloading the 1.95 update, I'll have to try to recreate this in a test flight.

I mean TBF, the Wyvern did exactly what you're supposed to do with it - go fast, drop your payload, and go fast in the other direction and be santa bringing the gift of low IQ axis players to your teammates in easy to access packaging.
Skip the payload part and bait instead sure. Payload changes nothing (he was killing artillery and AA IIRC).
@@AdamTheEnginerd I mean with the Wyvern's speed and acceleration, you've got the time to hit a pillbox or a tank and still be perfectly safe, so why not pick up a little tip for your services? Also clues the Germans into the fact that you're there, which can grab the attention of some pilots that are thirsty for a kill but would have otherwise climbed.
The sole exception is Advance to the Rhine. The rail yard is something like 32 ground targets, it's literally a free 10~20k lions on a loss without premium. Frankly that amount of pure profit is too much to justify ignoring with how the game's economy is atm.
Because you could be climbing and be better bait instead.
I'm always talking about what's best to win the match for the team. People going for the rail yard are useless for example.
@@AdamTheEnginerd they're useless if they're in a plane that isn't straight up faster than basically everything else at their BR. Not to mention, baiting on the deck is the best option with the Wyvern. My team isn't going to climb anyway, and if I try to climb and bait and fuck it up or the enemy gets lucky, they still have energy and I have nothing. If I can drag them to the deck, they now have no energy, so even if they manage to nail me they're effectively out of the fight. Plus, the closer I can get the fight to sea level, the more I can leverage the natural quirks of a turboprop against my pursuers and reverse the situation on them.
I'm not saying baiting isn't good option, I'm saying that anything that distracts from being useful (baiting, fighting the enemy planes) like payload stuff will be less useful than straight up baiting.

I personally love the f4U1D, and its a shame that the 1C is pretty bad when stock. Like i got 4 kills and an assist in it and still got not enough RP to even get the radiator upgrade. Its a shame that spading some planes take so long. Do you have any tips how to grind the upgrades out faster?
Not really, I recommend not ground pounding until the last enemy dies too.

I only just unlocked this plane, and I love it already. It's mainly because I'm already used to the Corsairs, so adjusting to this plane isn't harder than just trying to learn how to aim the cannons.

If only I was this good back when I was still stuck at Rank III, spading this thing...armament is good, hits like a truck even on glancing blows, but it is difficult to aim due to the weight, which can cause you to leak energy like a sieve if you're not careful. I'm still confused as to how your "side-to-side roll" reversal works, even after seeing all your recent Corsair videos and the Reversals video (of all the times I tried that trick in a Corsair, I only succeeded once, using the much faster -4 variant against a G.55S). That's why I prefer flying heavy fighters like the P-38L-5LO and luring the enemy into vertical energy traps instead.

How do you effectively do the roll from side to side maneuver to lure enemies in? I've seen you do it many times, but whenever I try it in props the enemy ends up killing me.
Can't really help if you've seen how I do it many times. Just pay attention to where the enemy's nose is pointing, and be ready to dodge with pitch keyboard when you see the shots coming.

@@AdamTheEnginerd I don't think that P-51 was a serial groundpounder. I think it was just that time for the sl. Ground target rewards are pretty high for the effort needed to kill them.
My favourite plane. Good guns, nice (reverse) gull wing high speed and good roll.
Back in 2014 when I used to fly the 1c almost exclusively, it was one of the best planes at its tier. However at one point they did some changes to some of the flight models, the 1c included and it rendered it almost completely unplayable. After 1 week of still playing and observing its behavior I noticed something staggering.. by default the tail elevator’s position was sitting in an unnatural state, causing massive drag thus preventing it from efficiently climbing and rolling, as it was creating additional force pulling vectors in other directions. This could be fixes by trimming the elevator right at match start. And surprise, the plane performed amazingly again.

It's called Manual Engine Controls (MEC), it's in the Full Real Controls tab. There are videos on CZcams that explain how to set it up.

Could you do some kind of comparison between the Hornet Mk III and the F7F 1 - I have both on my "to grind" list but don't know which one is more practical
Hmm I'd say Hornet, the 2km airspawn is pretty nice. F7F has worse performance but better guns, and lower airspawn.

What I do is I record it on my laptop next to me at the same time as the gameplay, and combine during editing.
There was this me264 in a match I played yesterday, where he basically went gunship and killed 3 of our team. And one of my teammates was apparently in a match with him for his last game where he supposedly got 5 kills. What he did was he intercepted our climb path, flying just above us while we were all slow. Pretty clever if you ask me.
Good, it's the most useful use of a bomber if you can't win by bombing. If he gets ignored by the entire team and left for last though, he won't be able to do anything.
That's usually how I play. Take a bomber, fly to the path of enemy fighters, make them lose energy and gun them all down.
@@AdamTheEnginerd This is how you play the B-34. Be as aggressive as possible. Take them by surprise. No one expects a bomber to start turnfighting them.

My controls are essentially default with MEC added, so no.
I recommend keeping convergence constant regardless of what plane you're in. 400m-500m is my recommendation.
The reason why a lot of people "hate" it is just for the ludicrous battle rating; basically it's just a F4U-D with cannons, It has the same dynamic performances of a 3.7... and when you encounter all that fancy high rating japanese, german and italian planes, all with a better climb speed as well as their usual better turning performance... everything becames more and more frustrating.
Seeing the ki84s high above your head after just 3 minutes of game, while you are just at half of their altitude, in a plane where altitude is everything, it's to say the least an unpleasant sight.
F4U1C is faster than most of what it faces, and outturns most Germans. Ki84s are indeed a dangerous opponent for it, but they are 5.3-5.7 BR.
@@AdamTheEnginerd I just discovered they put it at 4.7 and no more in 5.0 like before (I don't fly this plane by a long time... expecially due its battle rating) It was very easy to finish against 5.3 and so the infamous Ki84 XD, it happened frequently at me, at least.
In any case... I just discovered also that its climb rating has improved at 19,7 m/s, the last time I used this plane it was way worse; can you tell me if this data is effectively true?

Stat cards are mostly fake news, they don't have much correct info. 19.7m/s is likely only possible at sea level, it's quite optimistic.

I tried to practice energy trap like what you do in F6F-5/P-47 play with P-47-28.
I made a pass to german P47 lower than me(about 800m, maybe same speed) and boom to oppsite side of his head to lure him to follow me.
I thought, "Yeah, I have more alt and same speed. I can E-trap on him with slight spiral climb."
of course, German P47 just climb up very easy and get my six.
then I was needed to have more energy? or Not good to do E -trap tactic on same plane?

Sounds like he might have had more speed than you, or you went vertical in an angle that made it easy for him to line up and shoot. 800m energy advantage is a tiny bit on the low side, but D28 vs D25 with 800m advantage should be enough with a proper spiral climb.
The last guy you killed "wundiesel" has 15676 Air RB Kills. For that many kills the fight he put up was just disappointing. He didn't even try dodging the shot, also that was a 4 man squad of fighters. And that aim

It depends on the situation, planes involved, speeds, etc. Generally you want them to get as close as possible while still being able to dodge their shots. Around 400m in general I'd say.

You can use F4U gears as air brakes in some situations. They cant rip off at all, and this usage even mentioned in its fly manual. Also its supercharger gears are broken completely in game, because when you use 100% your switching alt from 1 to 2 is 1200 m, but on WEP it is 200 m...
They rip at around 750+km/h, but yeah effectively you can use them. They do worse your high speed turn though.
That makes perfect sense, supercharger gear switch altitude depends on throttle.

"petty". i am constantly losing games because people, especially in p-47s, go ground pounding. if 8 out of 16 poeple go ground pound then in the actual fight it is usually 8 people against 12. now factor in allied team stupidity and it quickly turns into a 5 against 12 and every useful teammate gets swarmed and can't do shit anymore. all of you bombers and ground pounders are contributing to less fun in war thunder. now go cry in a corner, or decide to become useful

You're a good fighter player, and I agree that people who use fighters to ground pound are annoying, but bombers are very capable in the right hands and many times have carried their team. I love using my B-25s. I sneak around, drop my ordinance, and then find enemies. It has a ton of 50s on it, and my personal record is 4 fighter kills in one match. Not bad, considering bombers don't get the luxury of boom and zoom. I really would like you to give it a try.
Do you use joystick? I tried to set up MEC but it doesn’t seem to work with mouse controls.
Mouse and Keyboard. You need a keybind to toggle MEC while in mouse aim to use MEC.

One thing about the corsairs I love...All Germans underestimate them. In the hands of a seasoned pilots they are amazing.
By now, Germans know the might of the F4U4B. For the other Corsairs, yeah perhaps.
My second highest-kill plane next to the big goth goddess P-61. Could probably stand to get knocked down to 4.3 but it's still one of my favorites.
Many people say it should be reduced in BR, but meh. I think it's fine at 4.7.
Wep can run out? I'm confused, it never happened to me. Maybe BC i fly mainly axis planes...
Of course, on some aircraft WEP involves the addition of a substance (water, methanol). When that runs out, you can no longer WEP. German planes can run WEP for 20-25 minutes, US navy planes can do around 8-10 min.

Yo Adam, I just got home from the holidays, unlocked the Re2005 and following some of your advices I managed to win a 1v2 against a P51NA and a Spitfire Mk9 (if I remember correctly) all of this while still having a stock plane (and having the luck to encounter greedy adversaries)

They vary from aircraft to aircraft, so for a particular aircraft check out the MEC in the description, it'll be a good start.

@@AssassinAgent Don't waste your time, it's not worth it.
Adam is using manual engine control (MEC). you can find the options for it under "full real controls" and have to set the keybindings for it. there are tutorials on the setup out there. If you activate it (can be activated/deactivated with the press of a button in a match once set) then the game itself won't regulate things like the supercharger or radiators.
My advice is, if you are just starting out with planes, to not use it until you can get consistent good results in your games. MEC can help with performance, but is overall not needed to do well.
There is no set "when to use it".At which altitude to use a supercharger differs from plane to plane. Some planes overheat easily, so you might have the radiator open more than on others (f.e. a spitfire overheating easily will have the radiators set higher than fw190 which barely overheats).

Hey Adam, sorry for the late comment, but when you were at “gear 2”, and said you should have been at “gear 1”, what does this mean? I know it has something to do with a supercharger or something like that, but is it actually significant?

Unless you use MEC, it handles all that automatically for you. I was losing around 200HP by going on the wrong gear, so 10% of my power which is significant.

I wish i can fly the Corsair everytime i flew it. It just doesn't respond to my turns and it immediately likes to the on it's own

Yup spiral climb/go straight up. Keep an eye on the Corsair as you break off, you need to react quickly to go up if he follows you to keep enough distance between you.

Yeah, and because if I climb a bit higher the Corsair loses power while the C205 increases power, so the best thing to do is run on the deck.

It has great climb and high altitude performance. Not much can fight with it above 6km. It's an odd plane though, I don't deny that.

yesterday I learnt side to side and made a reversal on a bf 109 f4 in my yak 1b. I was so excited!! Oh btw, sometimes bombers like me 264 are disgusting i tried the p61 with the turret and knew to turn from side to side and threw off my turret aim. Another 264 came and wrecked me while i was focusing on the other. One more thing 3 me 264s is enough to end a match if they dont get shot down. Its true that its boring before these i didnt have to bother about the bombers but now its a problem and they r super high.

I don't think 3 264s are enough except in something like a max downtier. I've only lost once to 264 bombing.

Do you think you could go over how you start matches? That seems to be where I struggle the most. Previous match with this plane I got three kills before we lost via tickets, the one before that I got jumped by high climbing germans.
I say in the beginning what I do when it's not "climbing straight in"
@@AdamTheEnginerd I know to sideclimb some. It just feels like the line between too far away to do anything and so close enemies jump on me is very, very fine.
@@andrewmandrona7891 It's why I climb straight in nearly every plane, and just retreat if outnumbered and out energied.
Make sure you have speed. It's the most important factor for staying alive through early game.
How is this plane now and how does it compare to the f4u1a. i don't see much difference between these 2 plane's performance and is it worthy of 4.7
Pretty much the same performance as F4U1A but with better guns. F4U1A is severely undertiered, F4U1C is fine at 4.7.

my biggest problem with most F4Us is the rudder. in rb its very hard to get guns on target with it locking up at high speed

I play the American again because they have Swedish as allies and i just tried to play Germany it was in beginning very funny but there was this Swedish plane i didn't know what to do it was my first Swedish enemy plane I thought i could kill him but than oooooffff he killed me.
