    For me, fly fishing is my one and only way to separate myself from all worries and stress. It is my form of meditation, and I never want those days to end. Its not so much about catching fish, even better when I do, but its just about the scenery and the tranquilizing songs of that moving waters. Absolute bliss!

    Glad you loved my home. I grew up in Millinocket until I went into the service and retired to Great Falls Montana, My Sister and Cousins still live in Millinocket. All the waters around the Katahdin region were my playground as well as the forest. I get older and do miss the simple joy of a Brookie on a 4lb line and worm on a stream or beaver pond, to a Landlock on a 8.5 Fenwick rod with a West Branch Special or a smelt pattern on the end. Or shooting partridge on the many camp and logging roads along the Penobscot rive or the many lakes and ponds. I hope you return for another fishing trip and Enjoy the woods i called hone so long ago.

    Amen to perfecting and practicing roll casts. I fish lots of small streams and just laugh when I see people hauling out line , and snagging the willows everytime! I get so many flies from these folks though!

    I have fly fished all over Maine. Libby's camps is definitely one of my favorite areas. So much river to fish and some excellent ponds. Great video thanks for sharing.

      Oh yeah, and you definitely won't go hungry there either. The sandwiches are as fat as the fish.

    Funny how this appears in my feed after I just came back from Libby camps, with none other than Toby as my guide! He did a great job even though it was hot weather. Loved the the 17" colored up male brook trout he put me on though 🤙.

    So glad I found this channel. The fishing is fun to watch, the scenery amazing, the venues (too expensive... hey... it can't be all a win, right?), but the lessons and tips are very helpful!

    Maine is the last great brook trout fishery in the US, aside from the odd secret lake in NY or maybe some lakes out west…. Nice scenery, I’m sure there was a 5lber lurking in that big river at the beginning.

      Parts of Maine are probably more remote than most of the spots your thinking about out west….such an insane state..so cool!

      There is a river in Maine where 5 lb brookies are not unheard of. The sad thing is, the same river held 10 lb brookies a couple of generations ago.

    I try really hard.... To make.... It sound like.... I'm narrating..... A River Runs Through It.
    Also ask Flip of a knot will bust your 5x tippet. Of course not. Knot it up, who cares. The fish will still come in if you know what you're doing.

    Reminds me of the 9 inch brookie I nailed in a west central Wisconsin stream yesterday...TOOK ME INTO MY BACKING !!! WELL...no mosquitoes sand flies no see ums gnats ...when I think of Northern Maine I shudder in comparing it to the BWCA!!! Bugs driving one insane! I will stay with a limestones Brookie ..the Bugs and drive time won't drive one insane.....

    • @robertheal261
      @robertheal261 Před 2 lety

      The bugs really weren't a factor, but I grew up on the east coast and may have developed a tolerance. They weren't bad at all though.

    12lb leader?! On those little fish?! Crazy

    • @robertheal261
      @robertheal261 Před 2 lety +3

      Hi Marc,
      It may seem extreme but when fishing streamers with the potential of large trout, 12lb floro is the lightest that I'll fish. The idea is that that they key in on the bait and won't be the least bit leader shy. I often fish as high as 16lb and don't have any issues hooking fish. Thanks for watching.
      Rob

    • @gregmccrimmon5548
      @gregmccrimmon5548 Před 2 lety +2

      The heavier leader also helps turn a streamer over in your cast. Trying to cast a streamer or heavier fly with 5x doesn’t work so well

    • @axkmster
      @axkmster Před rokem

      I'm a 56yo Mainer who would only use 12lb leader for Lakers or schoolie stripers.. For trout and salmon 4 to 6lb... 8 Lb for bigger fish and heavy flies and sinking fly line..
