    • @newflyfisher
      @newflyfisher  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed it. They keep a boat down river where the float plane lands up on the beach all season. Since we shot this video, they have now built a platform and put up a spike camp for the salmon season so anglers can stay up to a week at a time. Hope you get there soon!

    When you say you fish with a mice fly pattern, do the Labrador big brook trout feed primarily on voles, lemmings, shrews or mice?

    • @newflyfisher
      @newflyfisher  Před 2 lety +1

      Good question David. Labrador watershed have massive hatches of mayflies and caddis which are an important food source as are small minnows, suckers and little trout. But the BIG Brook Trout are very focussed on eating high calorie/protein meals and mice are definitely on the menu. Mice fall in the rivers there all the time, especially early morning, at night and late evenings. That is why we recommend using them as the biggest fish in a run or pool will come after a mice pattern. Hope this helps

      Not entirety true, you can drive to Labrador and catch huge brook trout, lakers, pike.. there's also assessable Salmon River's where you can park your vehicle and walk a short distance for monster salmon... follow the regulations in regards to licensing, and I don't believe you even need a guide within a certain distance from roadways... pack a decent tent, supplies and go..don't forget the bug spray or you'll regret that you ever went there , lol.

    A video like this on big brook trout makes me wonder why the big brook trout are no longer in Wisconsin streams. The Wisconsin State Record Inland Brook Trout is 9 pounds 15 ounces. How did the Wisconsin DNR devastate the big brook trout's food chain in Wisconsin's streams?

    • @newflyfisher
      @newflyfisher  Před 2 lety

      Sorry do not know the answer but suspect over-fishing and keeping of large female fish has had an impact.

      Bookies can only live in a PH7 they seem to just disapear in acidic lakes.we have nice speckled trout here in Quebec I know ponds where you can land 12 inches all day. I've pulled out 6 pounders . We get lakers also ever see the water boil? They chase shrimp ever see shrimp they swim like dolphins

  • @flyguy4515
    @flyguy4515 Před 3 lety +1

    All you need is 4-6lb line for trout. You can even get away with 2. I know they have teeth alot of the times so i stick to 4.

      Good point. We were fishing the larger waters at the start and the hatches were not happening there. But as the week went on, the smaller lake (which they call ponds) started to have hatches. Hope that explains and you get a chance to visit Labrador soon!

    Do guides know that it isn't their indication to set the hook that actually does it. I know they want to seem like they're contributing to the moment but saying "set" doesn't really achieve that. Stop doing it, it triggers me.

      More on cost. Airplane fuel was $18 per gallon and I don't know how many gallons for a round trip. Everything ...lumber , appliances and fuel etc. has to be flown in. At the other place i stayed it was 170 miles and stuff was flown in or moved in by snowmobile. And no, I am not associated with any lodge.
