This type of thinking is what aids in the gatekeeping of the division. Not just lightweight, but all divisions. Granted you bring up good points that the old guard were underdogs and surpassed the odds after one fight each. But because of that, you now classify all those contenders at tier 2 or lower? That is ignorant of so many factors. Charles vs Arman in my view is a good test, same as Justin vs Max. Dustin could serve to get one more fight against a contender, possibly Beneil if he's recovered, to at least assert his placement amount those "tier 1" lightweights. Styles make match ups, and opportunities being granted is what can cause movement in divisions.
I feel this is tough background mixed with good coaching. Charles, growing up in violence in Brazil. Justin Gaethje, blue collar mini g town is where he came from, and grew up with his tough father uncles and brother. Dustin Porier, grew uo fighting and is a 3rd generation fighter in his own words . Dustin's boxing coach, Charles Muay Thai (which is underrated), Justin Gaethje had Trevor Wittman as his coach.
Loved the video. I just thought it was funny that you included Beneil into the "younger fighters". I mean yeah, technically he's younger than the top 3 but only by a year or so, and he's also been in the UFC for a decade. But maybe you meant younger as in young in the top of the rankings, which yeah, he would be I guess?

Because theres always a derka who takes the belt without fighting anyone then hides in the mountains, refusing to defend it and acting like theyve just done the ufc a huge favour when they do.
They fought each other so much, the math started adding up and now they are unstoppable because like you said. Iron sharpens iron and they shared the octagon in between each other, this is why they are unstoppable so far. They all basically evolved each other clashing their skill sets.
Including conor khabib tony and chandler plus these 4 of islam olivera gaethje and dustin. The true golden era of MMA imo. They are such skill fighters. No other division can compete imo.
We have to give Chandler props. He's a hard fight for anyone in the division any time, he has kept the division exciting, and he has never had a single boring fight in the UFC.
This is all true for another year or so..mma changes so fast, 35- 36 is usually the backend of your prime but 37-38 they are no longer in prime form for 99% of fighters. Lightweight is just a bunch of killers but the young guns will catch soon enough. I don't see Armen getting passed Charley Olives yet, but if that fight was next year...maybe.
I have a big problem with putting Dariush as a "contender". He lost to Charles. So did Justin and Dustin. Unlike those guys he actually consistently fights back with Gamrot and Arman. Justin and Dustin have only fought outside the top 5 once in the last couple years. If they were consistently fighting back like Dariush they would have loses too.
Great point. I don't think Dariush belongs in the conversation for a different reason. Dariush is an OG in the lightweight division. He was in the top 10 in 2015-2016. Fiziev and BSD are new jacks so there is a difference between a vet getting blocked from moving up vs a new jack.
@@denisenoles3159 yeah Dariush has a career of going on good winning streaks getting deep into the rankings then suffering a bad ko loss which he has to build back up from. Wish he could post every day and longer videos at that. Would love a 20-30 min video
Here after the Oliveira split decision loss and Gaethje KO to Max 😢
The Elite Four of UFC (If we include Chandler), and the regional champion Makhachev if we compare in Pokémon terms.
Good comparison 😂
Same thing happened at 145. It was Volk, then Max and then the rest
and 185 izzy rob and the rest but that's not going well currently
beniel is part of the old guard too.. just wait until charles beats arman
Beniel should retire. He did nothing and is boring
@@JopJioin a span of 2-3 years hes accepted fights against Gamrot, Arman, Dustin, Charles, Islam, and possibly Benoit Saint Dennis. All this while Dustin fight no. 11 and Justin fights no. 7 and get praised for giving a chance to contenders. And dont even get me started on Chandler, that dude should be around 15 not 5.
Cuz' we're Millennials. We're the last badass generation. Been through hell and back. We've earned our place.
Hopefully you’ll be able to look at this comment in a couple years and laugh at yourself bro
It's because they are the baddest MFs
After 300, this aged like milk😂
💯 Will be missed, when they're gone, 💯✨️💯 Will be remembered!
Michael Chandler should be in Tier 2 tbh
The rest of the old guard managed to hold off the new guard, I hope Charles can pull it off too! It gonna be the greatest of the old guard vs the best of the new guard in Charles vs Arman! 👊🔥
Dariush is considered old guard after outclassing Gamrot
Poirier is a LW ranked fighter since 2016, top 3 since August 2018.
The most Evergreen lightweight elìte fighter of all time.
Because theres always a derka who takes the belt without fighting anyone then hides in the mountains, refusing to defend it and acting like theyve just done the ufc a huge favour when they do.
Amazing
They fought each other so much, the math started adding up and now they are unstoppable because like you said. Iron sharpens iron and they shared the octagon in between each other, this is why they are unstoppable so far. They all basically evolved each other clashing their skill sets.
Including conor khabib tony and chandler plus these 4 of islam olivera gaethje and dustin. The true golden era of MMA imo. They are such skill fighters. No other division can compete imo.
The little Mikey chandler at the end was funny 😅
We have to give Chandler props. He's a hard fight for anyone in the division any time, he has kept the division exciting, and he has never had a single boring fight in the UFC.
Lightweight is the greatest division in the history of the ufc, the old guard are still holding up
Why cant tjlovesfights make a video on the aj vs ngannou fight?😢
The old guard has fallen
We'll see if tsarukyan can break the trend. It'd definitely make things interesting. I'm excited to see how Oliveira deals with his ground game
These guys are the horsemen of MMA
So happy to see these warriors finally getting the recognition they deserve. They proved everyone wrong, including me.
Those three guys pack insane punching power. They will win an engagement even if the opponent lands 3 times the number of strike they do
I have a big problem with putting Dariush as a "contender".
He was dominating Barboza then got slept, won a couple then got slept by a short notice replacement opponent in Hernandez in like 30 seconds. It’s why he had to win 8 in a row to be in title talks he fell out of the rankings after that loss. hes an OG that’s always been good but had been set back a lot. He’s old now tho it might be over
@kingt0295 You laid that out perfectly. I think it is over for Benny too. Sad! Remember Tony vs Barboza? I have not watched that fight in years. My brain remembers Barboza dominating the fight but then making his silly mistake of going to the ground with his opponent after rocking him and getting subbed. However, when I hear people reflect on the fight, they say Tony dominated. Is my memory wrong?
@@denisenoles3159 I just remember the sick darce from Tony that fight was aggggges ago lol my foggy memory is of it being competitive I can’t remember if Tony got rocked or anything
@kingt0295 Ok. Thanks! I am glad to know that I am not the only one who forgets the specifics of old fights. Some fans act like they remember every fight blow by blow moment but we all must have watched thousands of fights, so how can we remember every detail of every fight? Unlike a lot of people who love to throw the word casual around, I assume everyone on these threads are hardcore fans. Anyway, enough of my rambling.
Nice topic
You know a division is stacked when people care more for the contender fights than the champ😅
Arman is on the hunt
I stopped vid (and nearly unsuscribed) when you said Aspinall 'has seemingly scared off' Jones 😔
Forgot Arman & Gamrot in Tier 2
When a fan favourite has an excuse people flock to it but bsd had a damn volcano on his head and was on antibiotics but since its poirer people acting like hes a contender now.
