- House & Garden presents Houses with History from Castle Howard, home to Netflix’s hit series ‘Bridgerton’. Join interior designer Remy Renzullo as we tour Castle Howard, designed by Sir John Vanbrugh and home to the Carlisle branch of the Howard family for over 300 years.
Remy takes us on a tour of the castle that is featured in popular TV shows - most notably as Clyvedon castle in Bridgerton - showing us private spaces usually unseen by the public, including the beautiful Temple of the Four Winds, as well as giving us his take on the spectacular 18th-century state rooms.

It's fun to watch Remy's accent starting off as English and them gradually as he relaxes drifts towards New Yorker.
Maybe focus on the house, not the narrator.
@@SnartNik will do
i agree his accent threw me off so much it was almost distracting haha
I completely agree. I've seen so many videos of this spectacular residence, but never encountered such a bizarrely unique accent that seemingly is generally changing somewhat frequently. 😂
I''m with you on this one. I rarely ever read the comments on the internet, but I just had to know where this person came from because their accent absolutely confused me. Amazing house though and they've done an incredible job - strange accent and all - adding to its preservation for future generations.
Beautiful home and beautiful decoration but interesting to hear Remy Renzullo’s over-the-top accent. He is an American from Connecticut. The affectation is comical.
Very Dorit Kemsley. Tacky
Hmmm interesting lol. His accent was confusing me as he was speaking. Now I know why.
I find it so funny that the title mentions Bridgerton. People seem to have forgotten that the house was featured in Brideshead Revisited (PBS, 1981).
This was Brideshead Revisited way before Bridgerton!! I am a Howard. This Castle was in my ancestral family history.
Ah, Brideshead ❤ if you have not seen the 1981 Granada series, you are truly missing out.
Still a favorite ⭐️
Amen -to the two of you!
Love Castle Howard. It is a sacred place for me as Bridehead Revisited was one of the most influential experiences of my teenage years-one of my first glimpses of a wide and more beautiful world. I took a pilgrimage in 2009- what a beautiful and happy day
I, as well, did a pilgrimage - in 1988 - because of Brideshead Revisited, one of the most influential experiences of my teenage years. A magical day for me to be on those grounds.
I can still see Sebastian sauntering down those upper hallways to visit Nanny. And Charles and Julia sitting on the stairs when she breaks with him. Amazing to see the setting out of that context!
Remembering the adaptation of Evelyn Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited xxx
I love that the family dog Poppy is in a lot of scenes! She looks like such a happy pup, of course who wouldn't be happy to live in such an elegantly designed and decorated estate?
What caught my eye (and I adore the bedroom and especially the fabrics of the blue bedroom) was the small portrait of the little girl as we were treated to a glimpse of the many treasures in the attic. Such a sweet little portrait.
I absolutely cannot with this accent, I'm sorry. 😂😂😂😂 Like, what would possibly be wrong with just using his normal, regular American accent?
He’s an American? I thought he was a Brit (or something…)
@@frostpond He is indeed American.
@@frostpond His father is an upholsterer in Connecticut.
It is very unnecessary; probably just pretentious
I like the fabric on that bed. I wouldn’t change it.
It must be surreal to work at such a place. The blue bedroom is fabulous! And I agree about the terracotta color. There is a reason so many dining rooms are painted red. Everyone looks good while they are eating, especially by candlelight! It was weird to see him casually walking down those halls, which I still think of as haunts of Lord and Lady Marchmain.
Remy just makes life better
To call a castle a home brings it to another level, first off! Rich in culture and history.
I love how the only mention of Brideshead came about when the Queen's bed made an appearance. Like, "Oh, yeah. This monumental piece of television happened to be filmed here. Moving on!" But in all seriousness, thank you, H&G for showcasing this magical property. Brideheads will always have pride of place in my heart. And please follow up with them. I would love to see how the restoration unfolds. Last note: Please change your hashtags! Add #brideshead. It's a classic. And required reading/viewing for everyone.
Castle Howard is exquisitely beautiful in every way! Thank you for such a gorgeous video, and thank you also for showing us so many rooms that you do not get to see on the tour.
My eyes were completely lost in this absolute beauty that I can’t find the exact words to describe properly. But why do I feel a strong urge to thoroughly clean the interior and run a pressure washer on all the flooring of the exterior 😂 Thank you for showing this artful gem.
What a beautiful house and setting. The inside is just amazing and I'm so glad that it is in such pristine condition. Thanks so much for sharing.
Castle Howard is one of my favorite homes. It is splendid. Thank you for sharing.♡
Glad that these castles are still standing.
That blew my mind, those bedrooms are exquisite, being there would be heavenly. Lucky man to have the privilege to dress this beauty.
Simply sublime.
The blue room is spectacular. Love it.
Wonderful. Thank-you.
Breathtakingly beautiful ❤
JUST THE MOST ON EVERY LEVEL-WHAT A TREAT IN THESE RATHER BLEAK TIMES!!!! Remy could not be better!!!thank you-Gianni
How wonderful to see some of the rooms off the tourist trail 🤍
You are doing an excellent job! Thank you for the exquisite tour!!
Very impressive narration by Remy Renzullo. So much knowledge and beautiful work.
Fantastic. Thank you.
Awesome... Beautiful palace...🌐🇬🇧❤️
I have never watched Brideshead so I had no idea Castle Howard appeared in show. Watching Bridgerton and seeing this beautiful castle is what peaked my interest in reading about the history. I love castles and hope to visit Castle Howard on my next London visit. Planning to tour all of the Bridgerton locations. Thank you for the video. ❤
"Bridgerton" is not history, but pure woke fantasy.
@@kermitthefrog3632 it’s just television. It’s not supposed to be real. You can dial down your indignation. Also, the history Ruth mentions is obviously of the house and not of England.
That sounds great! They used so many beautiful real life locations across England. I have done similar things for Pride and Prejudice (2005 and 1995), as well as Harry Potter (which actually used a very large number of gorgeous real life historic buildings). If you’re interested in either of those, I can send you my list of locations.
@@jamesrightasrain795 How about you "dial down" your stupidity? It is cultural appropriation, but I suppose that only works in one direction... so typical.
The history of the house is the history of England; it is representative and it is a history of White people.
Perhaps we should have a White man play Kunte Kinte... after all, it's just television, isn't it? 🤡
Castle Howard is about 250 miles from London
Now, that’s a house tour!
My goodness it would be a half-hour trip to raid the frig.
Great! They are working on reproducing the wallpaper-- hopefully and especially in, "The Chinese Drawing room".
I want to live in that last little building..I will pay rent or purchase it. I love it there
For Me, Great Work, Gorgeous House, I would Love to Visit this Home some day.
Absolutely amazing thank you for showing us this excellent work 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I thoroughly enjoyed this and the young designer working on the castle. He was lovely, low key and personable.
It shows the enourmous wealth from the rich and at the same time how many poor people where struggling to survive , this paradox strikes me the most.
I discovered Felicity Irons rush place mats - they are perfect
Can we compare word count? How many times did he say the word « room »?
The entrance hall of castle Howard and its scale reminds me of Blenheim palace
Astonishing. 😳
Love this so much
This style in modern style at the same time will be even more🔥
The most beautiful house in Britain
Wowww magnifique
I’ve been living in this house for the last 9 months, and honestly I’m sick to death of it. I literally live in 4 rooms, sometimes the attic space and nearest bathroom. I wouldn’t know if others had broken in and were living in other parts of the building! The heating doesn’t work and it gets VERY cold during the winter months. I usually order takeaway and have it delivered just so I don’t have to fire up the oven and so that the delivery driver can see my magnificent home! I work during the day, so Christ alone knows what goes on there whilst I’m away…
00:23 this view is amazing, i want to be here
?? Why is every corner of the Admirals room painted in soooo much blue... was there a sale on that colour, (buy 1 can and get a dozen free!)
Thank goodness the park gives one a place to decompress from the grandeur. I could adjust to it, though.
Magnificent
This kid’s bizarre pseudo-posh-British-nobility-meets-Philadelphia-Story accent is distractingly hilarious. Castle Howard is beautiful, though.
He sounds like the 'Gap Yah' guy!!!
Could not agree more. It sounds like a speech impediment. I'm British born American and we traveled on some posh circles. Not one person ever sounded like this! 😂
I’m sure he has talent, but goodness, what a twit. Mute and caption.
the Ragtime soundtrack was distracting.
It's such an odd accent 😅
Was that pavilion used in Pride and Prejudice for the proposal scene, the one with Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennett?
Is this bloke the love child of Lloyd grossman and Monty python
Sweet doggy!!
IT'S COMPLETELY STUNNING PLACE. thank you so much to show us!!!👏👏👏👏👑👑👑👑👑👏👏👏👑👑👑👏👏👑👑👑👏👏👑👑👑👏👏👑👑
Never heard of castle of Howard until now after finding out my ancestry I'm a descendant of them my great grand fathersx4 is John Howard and great uncles thomas howard and phillip howard ny great grandmother was Norfolk Virginia
stupendo
Lovely ❤
Imagine venturing downstairs for a midnight snack in this place.
Please do a time lapse video when decorating....thank you in advance ❤💐🌹 The china cabinet SMH ❤❤❤
SO much inspiration here! I wonder if the film editors might take a listen to the background and tone it down a bit? It's competing with Mr. Renzullo for attention.
Love your dog! The blue bedroom is saved by the great rush matting. Excellent combination. I could kill a lot of time in this place with just me and my dogs.
dacorated......dacorating.....dacorate.... why such an affected accent 😭
Is that duke’s palace from the bridgerton season 1
What a fantastic display of wealth, intolerance and snobbery!
Unfortunately I found this video impossible to watch due to the decorators hideously fake accent.
At 4:34 we see this man sit on the arm of a sofa with the heel of his shoe on the sofa side. I am peeved with how casually he deports himself around someone else's property. At 7:34 he is leaning against a wall. At 8:50 he is leaning against a wall. 12:00 leaning again. Hard work, I guess.
Another, lesser known stately home, also located in Yorkshire - with thrice the length of the façade of Buckingham Palace, and what was once described by one author as possessing one of the most stunning, grandest of drawing rooms, libraries in England, as well as having been frequented by the likes of Royalty - and was subject to dispute whether or not it wasn't the real inspiration for Austen behind Pemberley - Wentworth Woodhouse - or the Buckingham Palace of the North - stands on it's own - with a mysterious charm and air to it - a diamond in the rough - just south of Castle Howard. Naturally it's incomparable to Castle Howard.
I love how Poppy gets a starring role. She's so sweet
He looks like a young Charles
Where is brideshead music?
The family must have been extremely rich in the 18th century. How come? And how's that now?
how do you clean this place ?
If you can afford to buy The Home, you can most likely afford to pay The Help.
Wage slavery.
Truly a splendid problem to have now, innit?
I could listen to this chap tour Castle Howard for several hours. Any chance he could do more?
Do you use the china?
I had to watch without the sound. Could not listen to the guy’s awful accent 😂
His accent is more dramatic than the house. What is going on here?
He grew up in Connecticut. So did I, but I don't speak like that.
Many people pick up accents when they live in the country long enough. It's becomes a blend.
Pretense. The answer is pretense.
@@kermitthefrog3632 nobody talks this way. Except maybe the dyke of Kent. Ie old royals.
@@justinwilliams7290 You are assuming.
Photos change very quickly and it is difficult to watch. No 3D panorama. too bad!
restoration of this majestic real estate will cost anywhere between €2.0 Mn - €7.4 Mn . . . restoring the artifacts is another €3.0 Mn at the very least if not more . . .
The music doesn't match the beauty of the home. So weird!
Before Bridgerton there was Brideshead Revisited so.....
Interesting video! The narrator's accent is so affected, however - even by British standards.
What is with that candle at 00:16 ?? WTF?
Mate what is this accent? Stop trying 😂
I like Remy's trans-Atlantic accent :) 🤔😍😆
I don’t have enough marble statues in my house…..🤔
Haunted... No doubt.
Unbelieveably opulent, I am fascinated that such a building like this could have been built! It really seems like it should be classified as a palace, why is it referred to as a "castle"?
sorry i’m late! castles have fortifications.
@@hal9713This building does not appear to have fortifications, right?
It was built on the site of a castle
Exquisite- But a Ragtime Soundtrack? Really?
Hans Sloane was Irish
Better with a voice artist to avoid the oddity that is this guy’s accent. Oh, and buy some trousers that fit. Another 3 inches on the length would be a start.
So beautiful. This guys accent is so interesting?
The accent is very distracting but I enjoy his energy
Your voice is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The dog is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The house and gardens are ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you for sharing 🐝
He has my dream job doing intireors of a butifole Baroque staitly home
@@LFO6174 but the problem is I am 16 and I live in monmouth wich is on the border of England and Wales
@@LFO6174 👍
I had trouble understanding the presenter's bizarre accent. Is it Irish? American?
That would be an upper class American trying his hardest to sound like a posh Englishman.
Sorry - I hit post too quickly. He is from an upper MIDDLE class American family. Connecticut. He has recently acquired the accent.
