I knew he was a real mechanic when he asked if you knew where he put his ratchet 😂😂 😂. Good video. He knows what he's doing, unlike a lot of CZcams videos.
Just wanted to thank you for your video as I was having trouble getting the rear engine cover out. This was the first video of someone actually showing how its done
Thank you for this great video. A daunting task for the newbie but you made it look easy. This gave me the confidence to tackle my intake, glow plug module, EGR blocks, air box removal and saved me *thousands* at the stealership. Now I actually think I might keep my D and tune this dog up!
Did my 2012 X5 removal following this. Indispensable! Just 6 short frustrating hours. Mostly due to the inability to reach/unclip the wire connectors, especially the two by the firewall, either by conventional or with a pic. Be careful not to lose 11mm nuts as they may fall into the gap between the intake and the engine where the magnet can"t reach it. I also benefited from the use of a cheap endoscope to see bolts and electric connectors. THANX for posting Andrew!
Thanks for the video, doesn't seem to be alot out there for this process even though everyone does the walnut blasting. I only wanted to get the intake manifold off so in my case I only did the 10 and 11mm bolts on the manifold and the 7mm for the hose clamp leaving the EGR cooler. I'm thankful the EGR cooler didnt need to come off.

Watching this again I'm afraid there is a very important detail you did not mention: The cooling circuit in the egr cooler must be blanked off, not connected when deleting the egr cooler. Otherwise you would short-circuit your cooling system (around the thermostat), which extends the warmup period.
Great video; can you show the egr race pipe installation too please. the racepipe has two wholes on the side visible in the video @19:44 what goes there? The original has some other device to the side; is that piece reused? or it can be discarded?

The issue about the DMV test seems not to have been answered, so the question remains - does removing the EGR valve affect emmissions testing?
That should only be done on vehicles that are for off-road use only and will never need to go through any sort of testing.
Can you clarify what you said around 18:40 for the carbon down the heads? Warm up blasting? Can you elaborate? Thanks for the video!
Walnut blasting. It's the preferred method of removing carbon buildup.
