Think about that for a beat. Winning a cup as we learned starts with Defense and Goaltending 1st. High flying goal scorers sell tickets and win regular season game but get shutdown in playoff by good Defense. I hope for the Oilers, Habs, Leaf’s and all Canadian teams much success next year. @Utred2012 Před 4 dny +1

      Hard to say “definitely”, for a very simple reason: luck. As a Vegas fan, there is simply too much luck involved in getting the Cup. Whether it is untimely injuries (regular season or postseason), whether it is a bad matchup, whether it is the team simply not being in gear when it needs to be. So many great teams go on deep playoff runs and just can’t finish for whatever reason. The deep run last year absolutely caught up to Vegas this year. Tampa Bay, the last team to play the schedule Florida will have in these past two years, had it catch up to them brutally the year after.
      Will Florida win it again if they keep this level of play up? Quite possibly. That’s an absurdly hard thing to do, though.

    How is this even a question? Did you guys forget this team got swept many times in the McDavid era to good teams? Colorado, Knights, Jets, and now Florida. Florida is outscoring them 11-4. Why would anyone take this team seriously is the better question? Say what you want about the Leafs, they are at least not getting swept in the playoffs and are actually competitive against good teams. McDavid? Swept FOUR times. The Oilers are the Leafs but with a worse roster construction. What, you think the Oilers would do better if they played in the Atlantic division? They would be a wild card and out in the first round every year.
    But hey, at least they win rounds against bad teams and score at will against bad goalies in the playoffs… but beating actual teams in the playoffs? I was surprised they managed to beat Stars, but it seems they relied too much on young players.

    • @disinformationworld9378
      @disinformationworld9378 Před 4 dny +1

      As for Bobrovsky people need to watch the games. Most of the Oilers shots are low danger. One game the Oilers forwards had something like 6 shots. Are you kidding me? The Oilers are getting outcoached and out defended, this is a major factor why his save percentage is so high. Oilers offense has been completely neutered. Kind of like what happens to the Leafs when they play against elite defensive teams in the playoffs?
      People are missing the point that this is the precise reason why the Leafs scoring dries up every postseason. EDM gets to play LA and other goalies and bad teams who can’t stop a puck from going in. That’s literally the difference between the Oilers and Leafs in the playoffs. If you doubt this explain EDM getting swept against good teams.

    I think one of the most underrated aspects with the Panthers is their true "play for 60 minutes" attitude. You barely see any difference in their intensity of play, regardless of whether they're up by 5 or down by 5. Most any team will talk the talk of playing a full 60 minute game, but the Panthers will filter out those who are just talking the talk versus those who are also walking the walk, because a 60 minute game is the base standard to them. Even when the Panthers aren't playing well (see: game 1 of this series and the Boston series), they force you to have to beat them directly and basically never beat themselves.

    I know for your listing a top scoring D man for the teams that won the cup. I would argue choose the non flashy Defenseman. In 2019 for the Blues Pietro was key scoring, but Jay Bowmeister was the key defensive reason the Blues won that year in 2019. You say there is a key D, but I think if you look harder the winning teams had that silent backstop.
    And show me an effective and useful 4th line and I will show you a Cup champion.

    Poor management / ownership decisions on contracts + roster were hidden so far by 97 and other value players (18-29-14-28..). Others are way overpaid (25-36-5-91-…) or not at the level yet (74-86). EDM lucky to make the Finals thanks to PP-PK, it just shows against a deep team with at least 5 guys playing way above their cap hit. The oilers are grossly overrated. If they had to play in any other division they would be a fringe playoff team that gets bounced in the 1st rd. Their record in the mcd era in the playoffs vs teams from outside the pacific is 1-2 soon to be 1-3, with 2 sweeps possibly soon to be 3. Their playoff wins are against the kings (3x), the sharks, the flames, the canucks and the lone extradivisional win against the stars last week. Swept by the 2021 Jets and the 2021-22 avalanche. Their lack of defense and consistent goaltending won't hurt them within the pacific unless Vegas or Demko is healthy. But until they fix that, this is gonna be their season ending routine every year. Much like their win over the flames, the only reason they beat the stars is because their goalie completely forgot how to goalie. If markstrom or ottenger play even just decent, the oilers don't get past them.
