In the 60s when it first showed up on my TV, I was really put off by all the fighting and paid little attention to hockey until about 5 years ago. So, hearing about the good things that I missed is really good for me.

    So any team losing a Cup Final really does seem to take time for them to recover from, at least enough for them to run it back
    Teams who lost the Cup Final,
    then won it the following season:
    • the 1983 / 84 Oilers
    • the 2008 / 09 Penguins
    • the 2023 / _(24)_ Panthers
    Teams who lost consecutive Cup Finals:
    • the 1968 / 69 / 70 Blues
    • the 1977 / 78 Bruins

    I was 10 years old the last Flyers Cup. We all thought they would be a dynasty but it wasn't meant to be. I remember the MAB Paints bumper stickers that said "Hat Trick in '76". They even went to the semi-finals in 1977 & 78 and back to the finals in 1980. Not So Fun Fact for we Flyers fans, we have the distinction of kicking off 2 consecutive dynasties. The 76-79 Canadiens and the 1980-83 Islanders. We were also victim #2 & #3 for the Oilers. Speaking of which, the 1987 finals were the most painful for me. Coming back from 3-1 to tie the series in one of the greatest games I've ever seen only to fall in game 7. 1997 sucked as well as we were so dominating in the playoffs and just didn't show up in the finals. Now I'm not so sure I'll see another Cup win again.

    From the Oilers' POV, it's important to keep in mind that all the key pieces of the roster are already signed for next year, and none of the players whose contracts are up who they should be looking to keep are looking for big raises. On top of this, a lot of the good, young players have taken big strides this year (Bouchard, Skinner, Broberg, Holloway), and should by all rights be even better and more consistent next year. This was just Florida's year, but I don't see any reason why Oilers can't be the Panthers of 2025.

    @HockeyGuy, I plan on being the worse nightmare in your comment section until you get it through that noggin that it was not a goal. Only genuine hockey fans and the spirit of Lord Stanley know it was not a goal. So get ready to have any Dallas Star's reference to that SC being corrected. It was no-goal, we'll get you to the truth sooner or later, why are you avoiding the topic? You know why, because it was NO-GOAL, Hull's skate was in the crease, it had been called that way all year, and as a result the NHL removed that rule the next year. Gee, I wonder why the NHL did that, you know why, because Hull's goal was NO-GOAL.

    • @THE_bchat
      @THE_bchat Před 7 dny

      I'm not a fan of Dallas, wasn't fan of Brett Hull, and felt at the time that Hasek was one of the greatest goalies I ever saw play. I hated that rule as it wiped out so many goals during the season, all because someone's skate was touching blue paint without interfering with the goalie in any way. After Hull scored with his foot in the crease on Hasek, I was thrilled that the refs just let it go, because a stupid useless rule shouldn't interfere with the Stanley Cup Finals.
