Monterey was key in the foundation of California History. It was the original Capital of Alta California and served as the location of the California Constitutional Convention.
These are a few stops on the Monterey walking path that tell a little of the Unique history that Monterey has to offer. Visit the first theater, the custom house, Colton hall, the statue of the first Governor of California, and the site of the first Fort.

What a great tour! I can't believe I've never seen that view from that old fort. That seems like the perfect place to have lunch at that picnic table.
