This was during west coast bash 2011, and if you dont know what that is head over to theme park review. Xcelerator was the first prototype intamin launch coaster to ever be built which lead the way for Top thrill dragster and kingda ka . Xcelerator is at Knotts berry farm in buena park, California

    Man that is one amazing complex machine. Goes to show how incredible powerful the human brain is

      And even more so that it couldn’t have just happened by accident, for no reason

      gdoggy1678 - I was there (are we talking about when the cable snapped? or is it a different time?)

    It's like TTD but a little less terrifying

    Nice Footage and did it do a rollback at 2:13?

    Why use compressed oil and not compressed air?

    • @DanielAbdelsamed
      @DanielAbdelsamed Před 8 lety +8

      Because oil doesn't compress (it actually does, but the amount of force to do so is insane). When you use air, it is so easily compressible that the trains weight would cause the air to just compress more, not move the train.

      Liquids aren't compressible, and that is why it is used instead of air.

      For the same reason fluid (hydraulic oil) is used in most such machines, easier to control the the resultant movement. Just think of an excavator that used compressed gas instead of fluid downstream on the control valve. The boom would continue to move in spite of shutting the control lever. Basically, you don't want your working fluid to act as an energy storage medium. Energy should only be stored behind the control valve. BTW, gas (nitrogen) is used in this launch system, but in an accumulator to create pressure against the working fluid to operate the launch system. Basically energy is stored in compressed gas which creates high pressure fluid which powers the system.
