Bill is stupid fool.
"You think Dutch has lost his mind Arthur?"
This alone shows that Bill is not a bad person, he cares for the gang, he is just a loyal fool
True, but he was also really dumb, if he were smarter he might of felt differently but he wasn't a bad person
In rdr1, he got sick of Dutch(Beginning of the game

you can tell that bill actually really cared for the gang or atleast had sympathy for them
Yeah the worst part of this game is seeing the good men Bill, Javier and even Dutch were before things fell apart. Bill wasn't perfect but he was a far cry from the monster he was in the original.

He never cared, he was just a coward looking from protection within Dutch’s gang. He hated Dutch, John, Arthur, even Javier. Would have been cool if the the interaction between Abigail and Bill trigger a dialog from John since he was close enough to hear it. Maybe he could say have said something like "Back off Bill" or "The only fool here is you!" or "Hey don't talk to her like that" I just think it would have been cool to see him get involved since he was just standing behind them like that.
@Turok Hilsen damn chill the fuck out bruh. It was a joke

Everyone seems to forget Arthurs been loyal to Dutch for 20 years
Yeah i mean Arthur was in the gang when most of the gang members were kids.
It's this game biggest plot hole, how come Dutch trusts Micah more than Arthur and Hosea
Heisenberg Because Dutch was losing his mind and Micah took advantage of that and told him everything that Dutch wanted to hear
Fergie the Manc
Plus Micah was just helping Dutch to become who he really is
@@MindfulnessGamer sure, that's what the characters say about him, though we see Dutch genuinely care about people in the early game, even those he just met like Sadie. This 180° change of personality (like pushing the indian dudes into conflict with the army to take advantage of the chaos and disappear) kinda feels contrived, honestly. Not to mention Dutch seems a whole lot smarter than Micah, which makes it even harder to believe he's being manipulated by him.

You can see why Bill is so out of control in the first game. The gang was probably the closest thing to a real family he had and he didn't really understand how or why things went wrong.
Exactly
It really is sad how in the first game he is kind of like an angry orphan
Also dementia probably. He used to drink a lot, just like his father, who had dementia
He’s like a kid who’s trapped between the conflict of his two parents
Bill is more like a child, he cares about Dutch so much he can’t see brought what Dutch tells him, just like a kid who’s been lead to believe their parents are great, they wouldn’t see through it.

Arthur's biggest flaw: Inability to express himself, he always mumbles and avoids confronting what he knows is a growing threat to the gang. Otherwise he could have just straight up ousted Micah from the gang like he did Herr Strauss
He has expressed himself, it just gets him into shit. So he stopped trying.
Arthur's biggest flaw was not putting a bullet in Micah's head when you get ambushed by O'driscolls in the river.

Arthur: "we robbed a coach then got ambushed, he took a stray bullet to the head, shit happens"

@@choughed3072 arthur is too honorable to do such a thing, which was important to more people back in those days even among bad people/killers. For example shooting someone in the back out of nowhere was frowned upon greatly by many. Even if nobody was to find out they would rather face someone they were to kill, it would probably give them more peace of mind. Also in dutch's gang everybody got a chance and wouldnt be dismissed until it was proven they were disloyal. Arthur had his doubts about micah but would never go against dutch's say in the beginning of the story. Only in the end he would defy him, but at that point he couldnt care less about micah messing up dutch because he was already planning on leaving and getting the others out.

Moises Urrutia then I’m guessing you didn’t play it thoroughly enough. I replayed it once and only found a few pieces of dialogue I didn’t hear. I 100% the game once and did every possible activity that was do-able(including getting the LOTE outfit) by chapter 4 (so that my Arthur would be extremely sick like chapter 6). You can replay it dozens of times but one or two thoroughly played play throughs will be better than a dozen rushed ones. This game requires you to REALLY slow down and take every little thing in to fully experience it. Aim for 100% completion on your next playthrough and there shouldn’t be a single piece of dialogue that you miss.

Honestly if everyone just talked it out and just tried to explain the situation more clearly, without the presence of Micah saying shit, things could have tried and be resolved, instead of the gang just falling apart.
Wolf I gave a like, but honestly, I don’t know. It wasn’t just Micah, I honestly think Dutch had a real mental illness called God Syndrome. It’s rarely explored in media but if I remember right, it is a medical mental illness. The person becomes so blinded of their own glory in whatever, that they tune out the world and walk forward, even if the world is screaming terrified for them not to walk over the edge of a cliff or into oncoming train tracks. I think Death Note tries to show this (although everyone cheered for Light when it aired, now everyone’s picking apart the show and seeing the hundred plus screwed up things Light did in his desperate bid to stay in power, and that he completely lost his original intended goal)
Norinia Yes, to my knowledge God Syndrome is a type of another, more common mental illness called Delusions of Grandeur; interestingly this is quite fitting for Dutch because one of the many symptoms is that individuals when their self-image (and thus self-worth) is questioned in any way will become incredibly paranoid.
@Arminius Chieftain of the Cherusci I think Narcissistic personality disorder (or megalomania if you are an older bloke) fits him better.

There's also a conversation between Bill, John and Charles. Bill yells at them for beeing disloyal and both of them just take it without a word.
When you try to talk to them Bill will say the same thing that he said after his confrontation with Abigail and Uncle.
John says that "Bill is so stupid/blind that he doesn't see the trees in the forrest"
And Charles will say "Well, he's loyal, I can give him that"

That one hits pretty hard. Bill always had a rough exterior, and he’s never been one to show a lot of respect or love for others in the gang (save mostly for Dutch). And yet here he is openly admitting he had high hopes for Arthur out of everyone left. It’s kind of sad
You could honestly tell when Arthur, of all people, started to side against Dutch it really broke his heart
I feel bad for bill in his speech in the game he was abandoned but Dutch gave him a chance I guess he just didn’t want that chance to go away that’s why he’s such a mess in the first game dutches gang was the best thing that ever happened to him

Uncle calling bill “boy” is a perfect example of when uncles mask slips and he reveals just how powerful he is. Wether you buy into the “uncle is red Harlow” theory, its evident that he’s a very experienced and smart man, who only pretends to be lazy and stupid. He’s one of the only people willing to openly defy dutch, and one of even fewer who does so without repercussions. If arthur is a Bear, and John is a lone wolf, Uncle is a Coyote. He's cunning. He survives by being the smartest, even though he isn’t physically the strongest

Sounds like a story left untold tbh, since both Bill and Javier are long gone by 1907 until they resurface 4 years later
Dutch left them, most likely
Things are different now, now I'm in charge.
No more Dutch, and no more you.
I’m sure his time to think over it all, combined with the subsequent abandonment and feeling of betrayal from that abandonment gave Bill a bit of a more clear and resentful view of his time in the gang. You can tell he was angry, and left without a purpose. So instead, he wanted to be what Dutch was himself. A leader. I would actually imagine that Bill did his best to emulate Dutch. I would also imagine, as tragic as it is, that he was very close with his new gang, having run with them for years by that point.

Would not hurt Rockstar at all if they made Arthur say "Insist" to Bill adding to his vocabulary of words like "Implore". After Dutch, I wonder how would that play out. 😂
Bill was too pure, so pure that he’s too easy to be manipulated.
My biggest complaint about the camp - everyone can physically assault Arthur yet we the player are unable to knock those individuals to the ground.

Blind loyalty.
2:42 this made me love uncle more
Calls him a Boy. Damn.
I got the second one on my first play through and it made me finally feel bad for Bill, he goes to Arthur about Dutch but he’s in denial and gets mad like a child would, like a kid hearing negative stuff about their dad they dont want to believe, I love this game and the depth they gave everyone
This really just shows how much bill worry’s and cares for everyone and he’s not that bad of a person
There is loyalty and then there is blind loyalty, the wise learn not to conflate the two. You can still be loyal but not to the point where you don't question something if someone is doing something stupid. Arthur was loyal to Dutch, but once he saw him making stupid decisions and beginning to suffer a mental breakdown he did not hesitate to question him. Not out of some selfish goal for himself but out of concern that Dutch would drag the entire gang down with him if nothing was done about it.
Just wish I could have Arthur point out the difference between blind loyalty and loyalty to Bill and Javier.
Ghoffman91 I know it's just so damn sad when Arthur says he doesn't matter anymore. how everyone betrayed him and John and Micah killed Arthur and Dutch didn't even care it's just so f*cking sad
Arthur was still too loyal. Because he could have run off with Mary Linton and lived the last days of his life selfishly to have the best life possible for him. But he came back, because he just couldn't leave the gang to be, his family that he couldn't abandon, come hell or high water. Whether it was to fix things or end it while keeping as many lives safe as possible, he had to go back.
Bill Williamson is easily the most underrated character in the game. The 2nd most nuanced character outside of Dutch. He was just a crazy old bandit in rdr2, but in rdr2 hes different. Hes loyal to fault, he only wanted to get by and saw Dutch and the gang as his best way to do that. In the end following dutch just turned him over the edge. In the end he couldn't find the same kind of escape that John and Arthur found.
I find the whole "Where's your loyalty!" Crap quite ironic when thrown at Arthur. He's one of the oldest members of the gang, one of the more capable members even mentioned as such by various people in the camp. He never doubted Dutch, maybe complained here and there but was always comitted to the gang, to Dutch.
But when it really mattered they all turned on him. No-one cared about him. Any that would have died by that point. Lenny, Sean, Hoseá... such a shame.
Well, John stuck by him. So did Grimshaw, in the end. I feel like Swanson, Pearson, Trelawny, Uncle, even Strauss would have sided with him too too, not to mention Mary Beth, who all bailed before the end. Plus of course Charles, Sadie and Tilly, who were pretty much openly on Arthur's side but absent for various reasons in the showdown.
Whether it was residual loyalty to Dutch or just trying to help John's family, Arthur stuck with the gang long after he could have just walked away.
2:50 meanwhile, john was in the clouds and smoking

@TheHolyDiver Javier is, as John said, a cynic who desperately wants to be a romantic: He genuinely looked up to Dutch as a fellow revolutionary and was passionate about his loyalty to the gang. In reality, Javier was an empty man trying to force himself ideas he doesn't even believe in as a way to fill the emptiness he has on the inside.
When Dutch lost his mind, Javier took it the hardest of everyone.
I would’ve told him that loyalty isn’t leaving your “son” to get arrested at a bank and getting mad when he returns, leaving your “son” to die then be saved by Eagle Flies, or leaving your “son” to die by Pinkertons robbing a train
Thank you for uploading this video.
You should do these in third person to capture Arthur's body language
"Be loyal to what matters". For John, what really mattered was his family. For Arthur, in the end, what mattered was helping people those could live and be happy as normal ones (John's family and others). For Sadie, it was getting revenge against the murderers of her husband. For Charles, it was fighting for the natives, his equal ones. And what about Bill? Think. That fallen gang was everything he had. He just didn't have anything besides it.

I liked bill I was starting to question why he had to be shot in rdr1 until missions after Molly’s death I saw why he deserved to die

I don't have any faith in video game movies, at the very least not live action ones. Maybe an animated tv show, maybe.

I kinda feel bad for Bill.
He was so fond of Dutch and the gang, knowing that he was nothing without it, that was just too narrow-minded to see the truth.
Like Arthur said: "Bill don't wanna see the truth, that's all"
You know I never hated bill nor did I blame him. You can tell he has a few loose screws in his head and he just looks for acceptance and security, and Dutch gave him that. Bill loves Arthur and everyone in the gang but because he’s more simply minded than others, he was persuaded by Micah. Bill wasn’t bad, he just could t think for himself like Arthur said in their last confrontation.
Bill is such a great character. He's angry, frustrated and drunk all the time, but all of these tendencies come from a place of wanting to fit in and be accepted. And that sadly is why he chooses Dutch's side in the end - the only sense of belonging he's had is to the gang, and with John and Arthur looking like outsiders, he has to back other team. If only he had slightly more capacity to think about for himself as Arthur begs him to, he might have made a better choice. Hard to not feel sorry for good ol' Marion.

I like uncle the most cuz he’s just chillin and so innocent
Yea with them talking, the bond reminds me of the epilogue
It sucks how they don't let you push people back when they shove you. Even allowing short fistfights to break out in camp in the later story would have been cool. Let us land a few hits then have Susan or Dutch come break it up
