Brenda Update: No Longer Homeless in New York City

- The number one request you all ask for is updates on the homeless people we interview. Because our travel is mostly dependent on 3rd parties it's challenging to get updates but whenever possible we try to make them happen. As we grow, we do hope to be able to provide more updates whenever possible.

What's interesting is in her original video, I didn't understand everything Brenda was saying but now it all makes perfect sense.
Many years ago, Brenda used to work at the Hershey chocolate factory in Pennsylvania. She knows of the area including an independent living facility for seniors.
Brenda was homeless in San Diego. Brenda should have been receiving disability from Social Security but as she got older and closer to Social Security age, she traveled to Pennsylvania to apply for an independent living apartment. While waiting, Brenda decided to live on the streets of Manhattan. The moment she got Social Security income she housed herself. Truly remarkable.
Also remarkable, a mother sent me an email about visiting NYC with her daughter when her daughter recognized Brenda from watching Invisible People. The family befriended Brenda including buying a bed for Brenda's new apartment. You can read that email here: / powerful-email-i-21576713
Brenda is one of a few homeless people who engaged with people in the comments of her Invisible People video. Over the course of a year, Brenda would leave updates about her situation and how she was going. I noticed some butterflies on the wall and Brenda informed me that someone from this CZcams channel sent her some stuff.
You can tell by the sound of the room, Brenda does not have much. She has a bed, a few chairs, a small table, and a plant. Social Security does not provide much after rent is paid. Invisible People will be donating to Brenda a special gift to help her with her book but she needs things for her apartment too. However, there is more work to be done on the road ahead. Homelessness is undoubtedly one of our biggest societal issues today and will only continue to grow if we don't take action now.

brenda sprankle Glory Be to God! Please pray for me and my brother. We’ve been homeless over a year now but through prayers, have not slept on the streets yet (friends and strangers have provided us hotel rooms before our car where we slept in got repossessed) nor missed a meal. When we did have our car, we worked UberEats and helped some fellow homeless people with the money that we earned and gave them food from canceled orders. That is the only reason we miss our car.
We just have to trust in God more than ever. We love you and God bless!!

I have been homeless 2 times. The only reason I am not homeless today is because my father passed and my mother came across finances to give me a home. So many reasons people can become homeless. I am very happy you have a roof over your head now:). I will contribute to you. People that think you are beneath them are actually beneath the standards of what people should and need to be.
No one should look down on the homeless as they do not know their story. ! No one knows when it could happen to them

I need money Doc help a young bul out.
William Mount I wish there was help for older women to young for Medicare that need help with medical expenses so they do not end up homeless. I am having an unexpected surgery and it is scary what medical expenses cost. I know ladies that have lost homes due to being single like me and had unexpected medical issues come upon them. It's sad to see people who worked hard or are working hard like me to lose everything because of unexpected debts.

Congratulations Brenda. Being homeless is unbelievably difficult. I lived in NYC for six years and cannot imagine the courage it took to place yourself in the heart of it all. As a mental health professional, I've long been an advocate for affordable housing. As a child, I knew more than I should about sleeping rough.

I was homeless in NYC in the 80s .. and all I gotta say to you regarding those people that told you not to tell people about your past homelessness is they obviously have fears about becoming homeless ...it's thier issues not yours ... you are a survivor ❤️ and a real life hero 🙌 yell your story from the highest mountain top let everyone know so that they can learn to help others who are in the middle of your journey ... so I close this comment saying hi friend 🙂

Could not help to reply. John and Elaine have been on and off homeless since 2011. Been to over forty motels on Folsom Blvd and West Capitol Ave. We R both mental health patients and Wife Elaine no take her medicine. Both born ---1963.. John been Cruzing via wheelchair for many years. Lady your story is the story that I believe. Every thing is a challenge. Thank you Jesus 🙏 for the bed I sleep in for the shoes I wear and for the wife beside me..PS. we been staying n the saime motel on West Capitol in West Sacramento by the month sinc August 26 2018. Story: My friend Ray was homeless once so he told me "if I'm going go down hit bottom then it's going to be in style and I'm going be best I can." So he kept very clean, had his docker pants all press down no wrinkles, had all his face products in his bag, kept shaven and clean cut looking. You coukdnt tell he was homeless like that. Kept his body fit at the gym. He went to AA meetings every night and talked recovery. At night he slept courageously In some bushes cause he couldn't get In the crowded shelter. In couple weeks all kinds of people were practically begging him to stay on thier couch, he was so inspirational at his best at his worse. Rip ray correll. (He loved to know I told that story)

I'm sorry that Ray pasted away!!! My condolences go out his family, friends and you, you're a wonderful friend that i wouldn't mind having in my life!!! That story that you wrote about Ray was nice of you and I'm more than sure he's up in heaven watching over you and who knows he's probably even read the story that you wrote about him!!!
Ray died 7 years later. At 57. He was not homeless anymore. He called me hours before he was found dead mysteriously by his roommate. He was complaining about his heart that month. He was still doing his AA recovery meetings and stated he wish God take him home, he was tired. I was asked to speak at his funeral. I said " I don't know how ray died but I know how he lived. A man of God, a man of grace."

the free phone is paid by a government program through tax payers as I paid for 35 years. I did not complain while I paid the taxes that would help others. Many programs are designed for seniors and elderly folks that have paid their dues.

People say to me work like me. I tell them I worked many years as a nurse. I may had helped deliver you. And they took taxes every check. It ruined my feet and legs. And I fell to my knees. So I can't work. Not that I would not rather work. I am 67.
Brenda have you thought of doing short videos to update instead of comments here ? It might be good for promoting your book also.
I believe it's paid by federal grants, and from actually the taxes that citizen paid into for years and other citizens, homeless need a lifeline, at the least for emergencies, not to be a jerk, the free phone, half the time doesn't even work, so there you have it.
I just can not imagine what kind of people would give this video a thumbs down...
She's a woman with a good vision and she's strong even she is in pain emotional and physical. I cried a lot of her story and thank you for being there for her. I feel her emotion of being afraid and worry for her life ahead. God will always be there. I believed ❤❤❤

Rent doest make you out the street you still depent on a private investors Its hard to sustain and pay in long term. I know many people who go pay a rent and six month later they still in the street cause of HIGH price housing make you vulnerable if you dont have a big Bankroll Or Cash down backup.

I knew it from her video when she was homeless that she would get out of it quicker than anyone. The reason why was her persistence and her street smarts. Every day she would go to the government offices and ask for help. She also picked the safest spots to sleep and she washed every day so she did not look homeless. She also had no addiction other than an addiction to persistence in getting off the streets.
It really helps when you're not an addict. I was homeless and people tend to assume that you're a junkie or a drunk or a prostitute. (SO many people, including some homeless MEN, presume a homeless woman is a readily available prostitute!) I just had to train myself to very early on, when I felt that vibe/ convo coming from them, to look them in the EYE and cut them off with "I'm NOT a PROSTITUTE....."
They'd fall back and often apologize. They would leave me alone, in peace.
Brenda, I am in my first place that is low income and i had to wait two years and eight months to move into my new apartment!!! I love it here!!!!! I was homeless due to circumstances with my mom. I have a disability too!!

I am so eager to read this book, my boyfriend was homeless for a year or two and although he had a lot of friends to sleep with sometimes, it was extremely challenging and depressing. Everyone please stay aware and help whenever you can, don’t break your pockets if you are in that situation, but if you can help please do. Not everyone is scary, not everyone is addicted to drugs, and even if they are, they are still good people inside and out. Stay aware! ❤️

And that they bought you a bed, and you have a relationship with this young girl. I was homeless for a time. I ended up renting a room from a person. I waited 7 months before I received a call for a apt in subsidized housing. I am now in my own apt, praise God. I understand what Brenda has been through. I was a working person. I was injured on the job. I did receive SSDI. There really isn’t enough housing for the poor working class.

I feel so deeply for the shame and confusion that being that impoverished brings. It's so tough mentally and emotionally..the shame is 50% of the struggle. Ppl who have never experienced poverty, lack of support and serious depression have zero idea. Usually younger ppl or privileged ppl who just cannot understand.
When God's holy spirit truly enters and one is a believer ; each tIme we see anyone less fortunate we then are urged to stop and hear them and the story , to pray for then and help them if one is able .. living in poverty is not good but also we are richer then many if we have Love for one another ❤
Here’s the thing, We don’t want children to experience it.
