  • Train #202 gets a new crew at the CSX East Tower in Grand Rapids, MI. Then as it departs, it goes into emergency and has to cut out a set of stacks. This gave me a chance to get up close for some ALCO detail on these two. Sadly, never saw either one again... On a happy note, the 4563 which was the worst looking one of the two, was saved from being scrapped and now on display at the Canadian Railway Museum in Quebec!

Prehistoric Dash 9's....I loved these MLW's. The crews always had a love/hate relationship with them though. They out pulled anything else on rails but the ride was like being on a bull for a lot longer than 8 seconds.

I remember in the mid 90's, reading about these Alco's in trains magazine . St Luc shops, {hope that's right} in Canada and the sad story of the shop folks going through the Alco fleet seeing which locomotives still had life in them.
    Long live any ALCO !!!!

In Canada, you spell ALCO, as MLW! All BC Rail's big M's were gone in 1990!

yep these "centruys" alcos were saved if running and no magor problems from the scrapers torch in late 93 early 94 due to power shortages and never lead except for the cat repowered century(number escapes me) the ones not road worthy were scavanged at the old angus shops (montreal) of anything usable to keep the road worthy ones running and parts were shiped from angus to st luc for use keeping road worthys alive
