I'm your host, Darren Van Dam!
This list features some of the best movies on Netflix you've never seen! The many recent releases on this list include movies like The 12th man, Nocturnal Animals and 1BR. Lists of Netflix Hidden Gems are among my most popular, so hopefully you find some new movies on Netflix you've either missed or passed over.
Tired of looking for good movies to watch on Netflix, Amazon Prime or other streaming services? Every week I recommend a handful of the best movies on Netflix, Amazon, HBO etc. so my subscribers never run out of good movies to watch on streaming. Spending 10 minutes watching one of my videos could save you hours of searching, hours that you could otherwise spend watching good movies on streaming that you otherwise might not have ever watched or even known about.
Thanks for watching! - Zábava

Thank you for saving me the time. Your the real hero here.
what movie is the thumbnail?
I'm a retired rockclimber. The Dawn Wall is not only a fabulous climbing movie, it's an amazing personal story about the climbers. Highly recommended for climbers and non climbers alike.
Whats up Tommy Caldwell! Whoot whoot.
@@AndredaGr8t ha, nope, I didn't but some folks do🤷🏻♂️
Super, thanks! Lots of good movies on that list, my fav being Nocturnal Animals.
Glad Circle got recommended. It's a really clever movie that is definitely not boring. I've watched it 3 times already.
It was interesting for sure.
Citcle was really good, I've seen it a few years ago before the recommendation
It was awesome, check out the platform
Hello handsome what’s going on
I can’t find it
Great list. There are a few on here I haven't checked out yet. I'll probably peep Brave, Middlemen, and The Ghost who Walks. Thanks for the recommendations.
AWSOME!!! Your picks are on point. Real movie watchers recognize! You are the average persons guide to movies. You don’t jazz up movies to try to make yourself seem all “artsy”. Simple and clean. Thanks. 🏆🔥🎬
Awesome list as usual!! I would have put "Black '47" a lot closer to #1 but then again I'm partial to period pieces. I can't tell you how much I look forward to your lists. Thankyou so much for another treasure trove of hidden gems to check out and keep up the good work!!
So many good films. Thank you so much for this. I can't wait to see Nocturnal Animals and Circle as well.
Excellent video as always. Merry Christmas to all! Mike from Tennessee!
Same to you
Great list, Darren! I have not seen Nocturnal Animals yet and you got me hyped!
I recommend watching it on your own, it can really split opinions. Great film
Nocturnal Animals is a really good movie i watched like a yr a ago n recently watched it again
I dont know how this video got lost in my notifications. I am always looking forward to new content from this channel. Glad I decided to search it out myself.
The 'easter eggs' in Nocturnal Animals are just amazing and totally tie the two 'stories' together. I love this movie.
ahh, but this is Christmas time and beware, you can't unsee the first bit!
yeah. the opening was ….odd
Nocturnal Animals is one of the most underrated movies ever. It’s not a feel good movie for the stupid - you described it perfectly- thank you for this list,
Saw Nocturnal Animals in theatre when it came out. Liked it but liked it even more on re-watch on cable. I’d call it very underrated. A fav of mine
Saw Nocturnal Animals in the theater when it came out, can't really remember much about it (guess it didn't make much of an impression) but will give it another watch.
Great video Darren! Loved Nocturnal Animals. Looking forward to watching 12th Man. Thanks for your reviews. Merry Christmas to you and your family!❤️👍🎄
As a fan of Vinny Pazienza I'm very excited to check out Bleed for this ... respect
it’s really good imo
Super good movie man!
does it have a Roy Jones Jr boxing scene?
I cant believe I actually watched at least half of the list mentioned and loved them. This is a great list. My Personal Favourites
1) Circle ( Surprisingly Awesome )
2) Braven
3) Middle Men
4) Shadow
5) Bleed for this
Appreciate this channel soo much! You've helped me cut down on browsing time so much since I found you! U da man!
Happy to help!
Vin Diesel's "500 Fights" monologue in "Knockaround Guys" is one of the greatest fucking scenes to ever pierce the heart of my (and the previous) generation of dudes who took shit outside/to the parking lot. I LOVED that shit.
;)
1BR is pretty good and interesting. Love Barry Pepper, an underrated actor. The 12th Man looks really good, would love to see that one.
Great list Van and now i have a few movies to watch 👍 Good call on Goodtime flick i seen that one when it came out and definitely enjoyed the ride. Be safe and Happy Holidays. 🍻
The Dawn Wall is amazing! Thanks so much for the recommendation!
Best movie reviews I've ever seen. Love your natural and casual demeanor. I'm hooked.
Sifted through the list & found some forgotten titles to watch. Much appreciated as always & happy weekend.
What’s going on handsome
Thanks so very much! A great list! Keep up the great work!
Hey? What’s going on
Thank you for being consistently spot-on and just having a great presence on screen. Stay safe out there Dude! Looking forward to your videos on and on!
1BR was a good reco man. Saw it on Netflix but kept passing and tried based on your recommendation and glad I did. I was expecting a formula teen thriller but this was more complex than expected and really held your attention. Thanks and keep up the good work!
I have to say that "Nocturnal Animal" was one of my top 5 favorite movies. It really pulls you into the stories and one of a very few movies that have a "perfect" ending. A must see for anyone.
Great job as always. Would love to see a freeze frame list at the end of the video of all the film's you just recommended. Hard for some to remember all 20 movies..
He usually puts the list together in the description and/or the top comment :)
Nice list!!!.. Thanks BUDD!!!👌👍💥🎅🎅🎅🎅
Hi there - I just watched Hunt for the Wilderpeople. You were right about the boy. He was adorable. Hick and all the characters added a nice sauce to the mix. Loved the storyline, so funny and heartfelt and I saw a New Zealand that I never would have known otherwise. Thanks again for a great referral👍
Great list! Thanks!
I agree Barry Pepper is really underappreciated. I LOVE him in Green Mile and especially Cop Land. He has the chops to hold his own with any living actor.
He portrayed Dale Earnhardt Sr. beautifully in “3”
Also as the sniper in saving private ryan. Our the reporter in we were soldiers
Good Time is one of my favorite films. Great Recommendation
Nice one! I’ll be checking out bleed for this. Huge teller fan. Cheers bud 🍻🎥
Thanks. I'd seen most of these but did find a few that I haven't and I'm looking forward to giving them a try!
Appreciate you 🙏💯 before watching a movie I always come here first
I’m going there your picks are spot on!!
Love your videos and MOST of your recommendations. You have turned me on to some great movies! HOWEVER I thought 1BR was disappointing! Not at all similar to The Invitation (which I loved)!! Thanks for the heads up on Good Time though, that was awesome. As was The Prospect!!!
Nocturnal Animals is really good and worth being number 1.
It haunted me long after the credits rolled..
The way his daughter and wife died.
Going to watch it now!
Seriously I will not drive in unlit area at night again after watching this movie freaked me out that much not even joking ether
Yeah that movie was dark and that stupid Jump scare scared the shit out of me
Thank you for your list and work
My pleasure!
Pretty good list. I'll def have to watch quite a few i haven't watched yet. The Hummingbird project i thought it was a pleasant surprise as well and Nocturnal Animals would also be my number 1, what a great movie that is, very intense tho for sure n not for everyone but a great movie nonetheless
Awesome list thank you
I just purched bud, waiting for the confirmation to my email. Tks for the recomendation.
Great list! There are actually four on here that I am excited to see.
Four outta 20? Auto unsub.
@@bluu_ice6554 HaHa. I've seen most of them already. I was just sleeping on some.
hi, would really appreciate if you can recommend good movies to me :))
This came up in my list, I love finding movies I haven't seen, two foot of snow outside..... Movie day! "Dawn Wall" looks intense. El Capitan and Half-Dome in Yosemite have claimed more than one life. I've seen both; you free climbers are absolutely nucking futz! ✌️🐱
Oh, yeah. I subbed.🤘
Good stuff , Love your Channel Thanks
Bleed for This... one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time, just Wow! Thanks for the recommendation.
Thanks darrin for the list !!!
Black 47 is amazing..John Wick with a musket and kukri.... also Polar is great
This is my favorite Netflix movie guide channel !
Merry Xmas Darren 🤟🏻
Just caught the very exciting Braven last night on Netflix buddy&like I just mentioned, I was very pleased😎 I adore how the film starts out, because of the Dp, wide shots of scenery of the winter season on mountain tops, than goes into tribulations at one working man's home to a employee in over his head&the darkly mess he leaves behind to a unexpected everyday kind of a guy who just so happens to be his boss!! I felt that the location was very fitting for this action crime thriller, it was in the heart of the blistering cold, something I'm very familiar with since being from Michigan and the murderous plot! Our lead gave such a different in ways, kind of performance that caught and kept my undivided attention😎 I sympathized with the character, who was a loving family man who worked hard with his inherited occupation and how he was a beast tamed&the love he had for his old man, played by the very skillful Stephen lang, who I remember first from Fire Down Below with Stephen segal and kris kristofferson, than I noticed his awesome cool performance in the mid/late 80s crime drama from Michael mann,CRIME STORY!(I really enjoyed his performance as a lawyer in that series) I haven't seen lately, drug dealers with military training! I thought that add to the threat was intriguing and up the stakes for our protagonist, making him more of a force to be wrecken with😎 such a interesting father&son bond in terror!! Out gun/out numbered, now thatd what a call a recipe for fun😎 haven't seen this approach on a regular basis since the 90s with my favorite action star,mr JCVD😎 I liked the pace because of a editor who knew what they were doing, the score fit the mood and I even got chuckles out of the actor who portrayed our antagonist lol I was well pleased with BRAVEN 😎 since I'm here,I had to mention the super duper eye catching TRIPLE 9😎I felt that film was just, not quite as entertaining but deserves to be in the same league of Training Day by antoine fuqua and Brooklyn's finest,by fuqua as well😎 such a exhilarating pace from after or before the main title roles! I felt that this film was equal to The Town,my favorite film directed by ben Affleck, because it that same relentless but thought out moved by character interaction even though triple 9 is more of a action crime thriller,it still offers engrossing character and situation while moving in hostile territory! Woody Harrelson was simply country/cool in his performance, I dont agree with the critics saying the cast was misused,I didnt even know that was kate Winslet as the wife of a imprisoned Russian gangster,WOW!! I felt if the synopsis Netflix buddy offered did NOT mentioned, "crooked cops",I would have been left in shock value after the opening heist sequence! Norman reedus was entertaining but hate he didnt have more screentime and more to do smh I always enjoyed his work ever since blade 2😎 Clifton was exciting as maverick crooked cop,he was so unpredictable! Another actor who I've liked ever since 187 with my favorite actor sam Jackson😎 I felt that triple 9 was a fresh, exciting and fast paced crime thriller😎 checkout Blood Shot, based on a comic book, starring disel, I caught it once doing laundry at my parents house on Starz&I enjoyed it😎
Love your videos Man must check your films out 👌👍
Thanx for the recommendations. Missed this one when it came out so I’m getting on this list now- hope they are still on Netflix! The only one I’ve seen is your #1 pick. We saw it when it came out a few Christmas’ ago and it was beautiful on the big screen yet disturbing and a little haunting... but a big thank you, again!!♥️
That's a good movie but odd pick for Christmas time
Like the channel. Thanks for the information. MERRY CHRISTMAS 🙏
Watched Braven today. Worth it.
The title is correct xD haven't heard any of these! Great video
I just finished Hunt for the Wilderpeople. I'd passed on it many times. Thanks Darren!!! It was a pleasure. I recommend it 100%
Really good recommendations. Finally subscribed.
Thanks 🙏
Shadow is phenomenal. The director is Yang Zimou, who is very famous in Asia and is the one behind "hero" with jet li, "the curse of the golden flower" and "house of the flying dagger". Fans of martial art should check all of these movie out, not only the action is really good, the cinematography is amazing. It is like watching a live painting. He does have a color theme for each movie, Hero is mainly red, golden flower is yellow, house of flying dagger is mostly green, and shadow is gray, and they all work. Check it out people, you will not be dissapointed.
Hey Darren! Sorry I can't keep my patronage in the spring I'll get it started again. Great list, I've seen a few of them but not all. I will knock out the ones I have to.
The Invitation is available on Netflix right now. I searched for 1 BR and saw it with a bunch of other movies supposedly related to 1 BR.
Yeah 1BR is a Must see if you like Horror movies that could actually happen and are about something
Of all the netflix review channel, this is the best. I watched for the bleed and loved it. Thanks
Im glad you mentioned 1BR i actually had been avoiding it. The preview looked cheesy. So i will check it out now thanks!
Johnathan Taylor Thomas as Kick Ass...... too funny.
Ugh, I know I know... didn't even catch it while editing either. OFFICIAL CORRECTION: Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
It's probably been 20 years since I even heard the name Johnathon Taylor Thomas.
@@DarrenVanDam which is too bad because he was a good actor once apon a time
@@mchamber366 Haha JTT! When I heard that I was like, JTT was in Kick-Ass? I totally missed that...
Same here I was like wait what he looks different grown up.
this shit threw me off so bad... i thought "no way there are two JTTs, right?... i mean i don't remember JTT in kick ass"
Stranger than Fiction was very good and one of his best roles...it also has an incredible cast.
Nocturnal Animals was brilliant but frightening. I did love the storyline and message👍
Aaron Taylor Johnson - I cant watch him now without seeing Ray - scarier than Bob from Twin Peaks
Good time is one of favorites ever on Netflix, thanks for the heads up.
Thank you for your recommendation of NOCTURNAL ANIMALS starring Amy Adams and THE DEPARTED with Leonardo DeCaprio and Matt Damon. I probably would never have watched NOCTURNAL ANIMALS but I thoroughly enjoyed Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal's performance. Don't know how I missed THE DEPARTED all these years but thank you for your recommendation. This is why I am a subscriber to your channel to get your excellent picks!
Is that a cool t-shirt or did your mustard jar explode?
Cool vid as always and definitely a few pics I need to check out...
Just watched Mosul excellent. Definitely worth a watch good story and action.
Always love the lists. --“the hummingbird connection” seems to be the same storyboard Michael Lewis’s book “the Flash Boys” with just a slightly different perspective. Kind’a like Dragnet, just the names were changed to...
Mg
Good info watched 3 good movies so far, 😊 thanks
This is the most important movie related channel..Damm, it´s difficult to decide what to watch in this era!!! Thank you so much!
Bleed for This is an awesome mention... Miles Teller is incredible in a lot of different genres!
I watched Wheels of Fortune the other night, because I was in the mood for something silly and light. I was smiling for the whole duration of the film. The movie is funny and has heart. Also Wheels of Fortune is like Talledega Nights, Billy Madison, and Napoleon Dynamite rolled into one. Thanks for the great recommendation. I’m looking forward to exploring the rest of the list.
I just watched a really good movie on Prime called “Wade in the Water”. Definitely worth a watch.
Thanks!
Hello handsome what’s going on
Huhuhuhuh hey beavis
I love your list that you put out they are awesome this is the best one I've seen nocturnal animals is an awesome movie I recommend to all my friends. Again awesome list
I actually really liked circle and people talking about the meaning behind made it more awesome with more to think about, enjoyed 1br will def check out some of these others as well!
Keep up the great work!
Shared! 👍
We just got dumped with snow here in NYC so this list is much appreciated
Perfect timing! ... on my part, not the weather's.
You're appreciated...
Right on, fellow NYC lifer 🤘
How many inches of snow? I’m hearing reports of up to 24 inches
Same here in southeast Ct. Buried in snow. Still have power though.
Great list! Per your previous recs, watched Circle, Good Time, and Hunt, really enjoyed them. I’ll check out Close soon. Thank you
Love you man! Just finished Black 47. Killer. Mile 22 is sick as well BTW.
Nocturnal Animals is an awesome movie.... will have to check out more of the movies on the list.
Good Time was nuts!
Thank you 😊
Black '47 is a very good and sympathetic look at the Irish and the British oppression in the 1800's.
Besides "Song Of The Sea" another great animated movie to watch is "Over The Moon" it's super underrated and promise u won't be disappointed! 🙋♂️
Edit: Just watched Circle and it was awesome the ending had me shocked and speechless great recommendation! 😱
Jonathan Taylor Thomas: Home Improvement. Aaron Taylor-Johnson: Nocturnal Animals. 🙂
Thanks Darren! I just started watching your videos and have already watched some of your recommendations. I really appreciate the hidden gems stuff.
I gotta say I have already seen GoodTime and I watched Shadow last week. Both really good movies!
Right on
My wife and I watched "Hunt for the Wilder People" based on your previous recommendation and loved it. Funny and also a bit heartwarming with stunning scenery of New Zealand. Although the characters speak English we found that captions helped given their accents.
Hey? What’s up
Shadow, bleed for this & the 12th man fits me right! thanks for the list🙂
Great video Darren. Just one thing, "Jonathan Taylor Thomas"? I'm not sure Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be too impressed.
I've already watched Wilderpeople. I recommend it. It's a little dry but cute
Norwegian films are really good. Trollhunter is one I like a lot. Give it a try. I can't recall the other one I loved, such good dialog.
Awesome stuff mate 👍 I'll get back with you.
Greetings, earthlings lol😎 just finished What Happened to Monday last night on "Netflix buddy"& let me tell you,the experience felt like the oldschool summer blockbuster movies at the theater like The Rock/Con Air/ Independence Day etc😎 I had the film added on my list after reading the synopsis which caught my attention but on that particular night, after Braven, the time length was to long for me, I couldn't make it through because I knew I would hit the hay during the viewing and that's not fair to the film or my viewing pleasure😎 after watching your video here, you mentioned the film during your brief thoughts on Close(which I also enjoyed very much,I just wanted more action but the action displayed fit the plot, even though the film felt rushed during the 3 act, using the plot twist to quickly wrap things up which I didnt mind,I liked the flip which I had previously expected and it was interesting to know that naomi character was based on a real life bodyguard🙀 plus I felt the action sequences were brutal and engrossing) so last night I decided to enjoy and that I did lol first off,it was engrossing to know that the script was on Hollywood's blacklist and one that gained notice, plus the director did the Dead Snow films and witch hunters:hassel and gretel, which I got a huge kick out of,fun thrill ride😎 as for What Happened to Monday, like I mentioned,it was a thrilling ride from the idea, the pace because of fine editing, the cast, naomi shined! It was exciting to see this actress from Sweden portray 7,well 8 if you include the role all played on the day of their name, characters simotansly, it offered such eye candy to the actress, highlighting her beauty because in Close, she was battered and bruised which gave you an idea of the characters journey and choice of profession which also effected her personal life but what happened to Monday gave her beauty a breathe of fresh air😎 it was cool to see glen close,(fatal attraction)& willem dafoe (john wick/spider mam) in their not extended but very commanding roles😎 the plot made me think of what was or is going on in china or Japan, 1 child per parents while also diving in deception from the government, powers that be! Just the setup&it wasn't drug out,of 7 siblings, hiding and trained to blend in&use each other, as a unit, to survive!! Each one is picked off,one by one because of a selfish desire and led by the heart, the most treacherous and desperate (bible reference). I do not agree with some critics who felt this film lacked character development because for one, this film is character interaction based on its plot which clearly is the title of the film lol plus, dafoe inform his granddaughters that they can be themselves behind close doors but outside, they all must be one character! We get a glimpse of the siblings in their own skin, from different hair styles to matter of opinion (I liked how one had faith in the law until she finds out that the law is flawed and very deceptive) plus one was a virgin, one was the brains(depended on the unity of family). Just the way they are picked off one by one, again, kept my undivided attention! I felt the action fit the tone and wasn't the one with jet li but from the perspective of a family in hiding, who had never experienced life together or for long periods of time outside of the walls that protected them yet imprisoned them. It didnt feel like 2 hrs and 3 min not including credits😎 I was interested, invested in what would be the fate and how from a fictional perspective😎 I like science fiction thrillers,Looper/Prospect/12 Monkeys/Arq, etc and What Happened to Monday did not disappoint, grad A+ in my humble opinion, with a satisfying conclusion😎
