OK, what you got here was the "English friendly" version. She cut back the enchanted wizard's voice to a minimum. There is another set in rural Norway on the edge of a fjord that hits a lot harder. Basically, Trollabundin means spellbound, and that is what the song is about.

Disappointed they chose this version. The ambiance of the version your talking about adds so much more.

      Cheers for the info Don,
We went with the Jools Holland one to see how it was presented for the TV show we both know well.

Finally. Nice to see my fav ever female vocalist getting more exposure at last. Well in lads. The outdoor in a Norwegian fjord is the best version of this btw

She does the vocals on the soundtrack for the Netflix series The Last Kingdom so you are spot on with that observation.

  • @MotherofUnicornsProductions

Eivor started out with traditional Faroese music, which she showcases here. If you really listen to it you can imagine what ancient Celtic or Nordic music might have sounded like. Even the throat singing is found in many ancient cultures and is thought to be found in ancient Norse music (and the Faroese language is based on old Norse). Over the years she has studies with all kinds of vocal artists and teachers and is even classically trained. All those influences are really well shown in the video of Falling Free you reacted to before. These days there a lot synths and a proper drum set with her on tour but she does keep coming back or implementing her roots in shows and songs.

Comments about the Norway Fjord version are on point. This piece is well known but it’s very different from her usual fare. Her “studio” sessions with videos are almost always works of art. “True Love” “Gillspunin” or “Itokini” would bring you back to her more mainstream work.

@@BritPopsReact I love lots of different types of music! Very eclectic, me! Only thing I really don't like is Oasis (sorry BP1, but they just rub me the wrong way) and drum and bass. Though I did like 'Barcelona'. About the only drum and bass song I enjoy...

That was interesting and Jools Holland has a habit of finding the unusual acts and giving them a platform. always admired that from him.

You should give a listen to her vid. Salt that she recorded in a train yard ...the sound is just perfect for that song. Another suggestion is for Riverside,Polish prog.rock band. Brilliant catalogue of music. Second life Syndrome live DVD recordings a great place to start.

Please don't compare Eivør with Arora. Arora cannot be compared to Eivør. Eivør's voice is so unique that she is an unusual singer who has her own unique voice that no one else has. Aroro is simply unable to perform the vocal powers that Eivør brings without the slightest effort. She is a rare strong live singer with an unusually strong voice. She deserves much more publicity and respect than she gets internationally. She is all the amazing singing female voices in the very popular serie The Last Kingdom.

I think she makes a point out of never singing this song the same way twice. I think she is basically jamming over the same theme and lyrics.

3:49 The likeness to Native American 'cry singing' is amazing. This is a shortened version I don't know if she will have time to sing while inhaling. I think that comes later in the song. 4:41 Ah . . . She jammed it in there. I think she is being possessed by the wizard at this point.

Very interesting, I'm sure this ritual sounding track has some deep tribal meaning. Maybe the last thing you would hear before being thrown in the pot for their lunch. That would explain the throaty bits if you were hard to swallow.

The Hopi Eagle Dance, Butterfly Dance & Buffalo Dance would be cool to see. The Navajo dances are also worth a check out! This somewhat reminds me of that, minus all the dancing and BEAUTIFUL clothing! Chick is really cool though, Chuey chilled right out and enjoyed. B1's face about 4.5 minutes in was classic, I love it when he gets that look. This was AWESOME! loved it.

Primordial sound - or as we say in the Nordic Countries - UR..
Indiginous sound with throat singing from mostly Inuitt culture, other than that this is the original way of sound.
You should look into Mari Boine ior Inga Jusso, Sami iniginous women. World (re)known artists.
I'll have to find some good links to add on here ;)
