    This is the best instructional video I've seen. I found it thanks to your fans.
    Every other video i watched said to blow/huff air over the mouthpiece, but i was never able to. I thought i was doing it wrong

    By far the best instructional video I've seen. Most just tell you "Make it sound like this with practice" but doesn't tell you the fundamentals on how to actually use the call. GREAT video!

      Scott Ellis It absolutely has. I'm new to turkey hunting and I've already seen improvement thanks to your tutorial. I've gotta keep practicing for the next few months, and I'm looking forward to getting out there and getting my first turkey this year. God bless!

    I know that this is quite a long time since this video was made. This is the best instructional video that I have seen by far. I was taught this way when I was fifteen. My neighbor at the time was an avid turkey hunter. He started making his own diaphragm calls when he was younger because there were none on the market being sold. I learned by doing exactly how you are showing. Thank you sir. Enjoyed watching.

    Thank You so much! I have always struggled with this and most videos only show techniques when you have mastered how to make the sound already. I was struggling with the position of the call and never realized that the diaphragm is the key to it! Also panting like a dog really helped me also with knowing i was in the right direction....with a little more practice i will sound better then i already do! Thanks again for taking the time to make this video.

    AWESOME VIDEO! I used your signature series call today in PA just to see what response I could get. I love this call. I heard the bird I got on last year after first using your call. I am assuming it was him as this bird was roosted maybe 100 yards from this spot. I heard him gobble and moved up closer. I did a few of your yelps, and the woods around me blew up with hens, and jakes, and the big boy. This will be my number one go to call. This video helps out a lot, and added with your mouth call magic dvd is about the best thing out there to help out average joe turkey hunters. Thanks again!!

    Scott, your videos messed me up last season, but my calling has improved drastically after "learning to ride a bike" again. Will Primos used to say bend your frame if it doesn't fit. My pallet is wide and shallow as well. With the exact tolerances found in diaphragm calls today, do you recommend bending the frame?

    • @HuntQuestwithScottEllis
      @HuntQuestwithScottEllis  Před 7 lety +1

      I don't recommend bending the frame as it will change the side tension. Thus changing the tone of the call.

    Question Scott. First time turkey hunter and I purchased your call. When trimming the call, are you trimming the left and right sides of the horseshoe? Or are you also trimming the back of the horseshoe as well? I got a month to figure this out for turkey season in northwest Florida. Thanks! Brian

    I so want to be able to add the diaphragm to my arsenal, but I just can't get past my fear of somehow choking on the thing. I'm sure that sounds ridiculous, but as a young boy, my brother nearly choked to death while we were having dinner. He turned more colors than a strutting Tom. Scared me to death. Here I am 40 years later, and I'm still haunted by it. I think I heard Cuz Strickland mention one time that he used to use dental floss by putting it through a section of the tape when he first started in order to not mistakenly swallow the call. I may give that a try. Thanks for the tutorial.

    • @HuntQuestwithScottEllis
      @HuntQuestwithScottEllis  Před rokem +1

      That's a hard one buddy. I'm not sure how to get around that fear. You can use a tube call, but it's not hands free operation.

      @@HuntQuestwithScottEllis Thanks for the reply Scott. Just a little update. I actually took a small needle and some thread and ran the thread thru the front right corner of the tape. I then cut the thread to around 7 inches or so to have just to give me a little sense of assurance. This has actually allowed me within the last couple of days to get comfortable with it to the point I'm just tossing it in and getting proper seat placement of the call. So basically it has worked like a charm in getting past that anxiety that I had. I figure another week and I'll just remove the thread altogether. Thanks again for replying and best of luck to you.

    Scott do you have a suggestion to someone that has been using a diaphragm call for a wile but having problems almost like going threw target panic shooting a bow I need to get back to the basics and relearn how to use the call. Maybe go back to a single reed ?your opinion would be greatly appreciated

    Should any of the tape be touching your teeth? And how big/small should the frame be?

    • @HuntQuestwithScottEllis
      @HuntQuestwithScottEllis  Před 9 lety

      Frame size depends on your pallet. Most will use a standard size mouth. Tape should be touching your teeth as they help to secure side to side movement of the call in the roof of your mouth.

  • @travispara518
    @travispara518 Před 7 lety

    What you you suggest to be done if the call doesn't fit right and chokes the user? Can it be cut down?

    • @HuntQuestwithScottEllis
      @HuntQuestwithScottEllis  Před 7 lety +1

      Yes sir. You can trim the tape. Just cut a very slight amount around 1/16" at time until you get a good fit. Otherwise if you cut too much you'll have to re-tape the call. Best of luck!

    Almost like I'm not using my diaphragm I'm just forcing air so the call makes a sound I think a lot of my problem is I used to go to small town calling competitions with just my natural voice and they way I call is not the same as if I was using a diaphragm it's been really hard to be efficient with both

    • @HuntQuestwithScottEllis

    • @dbuckner902010
      @dbuckner902010 Před 9 lety

      I don't know how to explain it Scott. When I call with my natural voice it's like I don't use my diaphragm. When I put in a diaphragm call I don't think I use my diaphragm since I don't use it when I call with my natural voice.

    • @dbuckner902010
      @dbuckner902010 Před 9 lety
