    Mike... Shaun!! Man... I have been trying to figure out what is making my swing steep and coming over the top. I was trying to force my hands and arms to stay back while I shoot my hips way out, but it seemed like the more I did it, the worse it got. And then....this THIRTY MINUTE live session, was me!! That "Figure Eight," along with going back to center and "going no further," was the Pot O' Gold at the end of the rainbow. It now feels effortless to do an inside to out swing. Oh!! and I also purchased that "Little Red Book." Thank you guys so very much for your sincere dedication to the game of golf. Al Anthony

    9:25 Today at the range I tried two things: shallow out my takeaway and downswing with the towel drill, and since y'all said that this weight shift move helps with shallowing the club, I wanted to try this first/with that. About 70 balls into the session I felt the "easy power" that I saw my instructor had last year. It's the first time that I had an easy swing go full distance... probably even further... than I was able to hit it last week. It was absolutely incredible how that figure-eight pendulum affects the power dynamics of the swing. Thanks! This was easily the funnest range session I've had in a long time!

    First let me say I am a huge fan of this website and am a member of your lessons on line. Having said that I have been struggling with the concept of unweighting the left leg then the right leg as I am still doing the back swing (not to mention making a figure 8 with the center of my pelvis while doing the pressure shift and also doing all the right things with my arms , wrists and shoulders). I finally have made a breakthrough by just focusing on my left side by unweighting it as I start the backswing and then re-weighting the left side ( I.e. the fall) at the right point in the backswing ing. By focusing all the weighting and unweighting on one side it has greatly simplified the timing and movements I hope this helps other s who may be as unathletic as yours truly

    Another brilliant video. Incredible the difference in the swing simply by changing the hip movement. I love the concept that the swing is a result of what the body allows. Previously, the gentleman had no choice but to swing over-the-top and steep because of his body position. Once you fixed his body position (in his case, the recentering of the hips), his swing changed dramatically (without even saying a word about his actual swing). Amazing stuff. Keep these videos coming and thanks for all the great work you do.

    Maybe your best lesson. Your student had exactly the same downswing fault (over the top) as I do, and on video I can see that my backswing is similar to his if not a bit worse. Your correction never occurred to me and I will go to work on staying centered at the top. Thank you for the great analysis and corrective action!

  • @johnk.atchley5079
    @johnk.atchley5079 Před 3 lety +1

    So if I understand you correctly, what achieves the slight move to the left, the re-centering, is not an effort to lean to the left before the backswing is complete, but the result of straightening the right (trail) leg which pushes the right buttock back and, because the leg straightened up a little, it caused the entire torso to shift slightly to the left, to re-center. Aha. Last week I had been trying to do what you were advocating but doing it wrong. I shifted a tiny bit to the right on the backswing, that inch or so, but then as my backswing was nearing the top, I think what I did was to lean or lurch my torso and hips to the left. This seemed to work, but I quickly found that it too often resulted in my body, especially the upper body, being ahead of the ball as the downswing proceeded, even if I remained tilted a bit to the right, so that at contact the face was still a bit open, causing shots to go to the right. Watching this video and your instructions was an eye opener. When you made your client straighten his right (trail) leg on the backswing, pushing his right cheek back more, it automatically shifted his body back that tiny bit to the left, re-centering it. There was no conscious effort by him to lean his entire body to the left. Do I have it correctly?

Shaun showing that the right leg can straighten at an angle was my key to getting the downswing to come in properly and consistently to impact since I now had a key to feel when I could initiate the re-centering. I was fighting a swing just like this gentleman with a start down of the right shoulder leading the way and resultant steep downswing- a lot a great pulls 40 yards off line!!! I want to add this.....the figure 8 hip movement is so awesome! Before this, on a video, I learned the figure 8 move with the arms. Perhaps, a figure 8 with the hips, auto corrects the arms(?) Anyway, I am going to be aware of both figure 8's 🥴

    Such an impressive breakdown of how you guys go about diagnosing and fixing a fault. I, myself, have this exact same fault so it was eye opening for me. Too bad you guys coach in Georgia and not So-Cal 😩. Great lesson.

    As someone who has struggled endlessly with a over the top move, and possibly from some of the same issues you addressed in this video... do you like the feeling of swinging out towards the ball during transition? Or prefer more a feeling of arms lowering. The feel of swinging out is more natural for me.. but then I can leave shots way out to the right, and even still pull them with such a over the top move. Thanks for any feed back.

    At what point do you start turning your right hip (for a right handed person) back towards the target during your recent er? Great vids! The previous live lesson where the student was told to keep his weight on his right side longer had me wondering. Thanks for all you do!

    Guys. Firstly, these are amazing and I hope for more live lessons. So powerful!
    Secondly, do you mind explaining when the unweighting or loading of the lead foot happens ready to push off of like Rory? Is this at the recenter of the pelvis or after?
    Thank you!

    Hi Guys One of your best. I think the notion of re centering the hips before transition is something that was not taught to me over man many years by many "topline golf coaches".Would i be right in saying that the opposite to this would be premature hip rotation, which also promotes over the top swings.Also the figure 8 movement of the hips/pelvis might cause a little physical discomfort at first. Am right.

    • @AthleticMotionGolf
      @AthleticMotionGolf  Před 3 lety

      You're exactly right, getting it done before the downswing is a big deal. Yes on the premature hip rotation, see it every week. As far as discomfort goes, you could be over doing the "8". It's more subtle than guys realize when first trying it.

    awesome. i got so many darn upper body check points and swing thoughts...wonder if i could just forget them all and focus strictly on lower body re-center/figure 8. btw, knowing we should always work on the opposite extremes, is it possible to recenter "too much"?

    • @AthleticMotionGolf
      @AthleticMotionGolf  Před 3 lety +2

      You can't be too "back to center", but you can over shoot the center and get too far forward. That make sense?

    I’ll see what happens tomorrow on the range but I think this is a “ha” moment for me too.. at least I don’t see the over the top movement when I practice with a mat at home at all! Fingers crossed
