    Tunch is spot on, many polish brands buy abrasives off the shelf and then use low grade solvents and other lubricants/carriers which negatively effect how much gloss you can achieve. I tell every company who manufacture products to not develop polishes as it costs mega loads to make them extremely well without the naptha, kero, cyclohexasiloxane and aromatics. My teacher makes his own abrasives and raw materials too. What im curious is when will aluminium oxide be replaced with something better or are we stuck with it?. Tunch my request to you is to develop the universal pad, an idea ive had since 2007. Universal for use on any machine type and universal in that it can correct well but be variable in finishing abilities. Finish is more important to me than cut but there is a certain amount of speed of cut that people expect. Customers are paying for a quality polished finish. Loved this video thanks mike and tunch. Please do more intricate ones with industry suppliers.

    Very good information. I've recently started testing 3D products after seeing them at SEMA. So far I'm pretty impressed with the results. I always wondered why there were 2 compounds and 2 polishes that did the same thing. I also liked how he addressed the safety issues, inhaling compound powder can't be good for us. Again, very good video.

    What would be helpful is a discussion of how it cuts. In other words, SMAT Vs Diminishing and how 3D abrasives physically do their cutting and are intended to be used (worked). I think you guys were headed there but got sidetracked.

    • @matthewgibb2640
      @matthewgibb2640 Před 4 lety +1

      There are products that are a combo of diminishing abrasives and non diminishing. Formulation not abrasives alone are most important

    • @danlc95
      @danlc95 Před 3 lety

      From what I've learned from 3D is that none of their abrasive polishes or compounds are diminishing. They are all micro, non diminishing abrasives.
      I know that when I use any of Tunch's polishes, I can continue to cut - without dust - until the defects are gone - for the most part. In some circumstances I do a couple passes, brush out the pad, and start cutting again when necessary.
      So with 3D, their products "stay with me" until the section is complete. They don't dry out and dust up before I'm ready to stop buffing.
      Because you don't have to work the abrasives through a diminishing cycle, you can do both short and / or long cycles to accomplish your task.

    Can someone explain body shop safe to me? The silicone and all that?

    • @danlc95
      @danlc95 Před 3 lety +2

      Silicone interferes with paint bonding/curing.
      Dust from products that contain silicone can cause serious problems in the body shop environment.
      Most serious companies offer compounds and polishes free of silicone to use in those environments.
