- The first thing I noticed when I took my Lectric XP Step-Thru for a ride was that there was a slight scraping noise coming from my front brakes. After doing a little youtube research, I realized that scraping and squeeky noises were common for mechanical disc brakes on electric bikes and some issues were not that difficult to resolve.
In this video, I will show you some of the easy adjustments that can be made on most bikes that have mechanical disc brakes with similar designs to the type on the Lectric XP ebikes.
Here are some of the videos I watched to learn more about adjusting mechanical disc brakes. In my opinion, the first video made by Park Tools was the most informative:

I need to buy myself that bike kit. I couldn't find it on your description list.
Thank you for these TIPS, I can't wait to adjust my breaks. I can hear them scraping.
It would be easier to hear the brake noises without the background music. Your videos are excellent and very helpful, but I would love for you to lose the music. Thanks for the great info.
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, that was a huge mistake. Definitely a poor choice to play around with background music in that video.
Yes! Correct! Thank you for the video btw
Exactly what I was going to comment. Lol

Thanks for commenting! I wasn't sure if anyone else had the issue too.
Thank you so much. I have never worked on a bike before. So far your videos have helped me, fix a flat tire , and now do a brake adjustment. You're a great "teacher' .

Just received my Lectric XP, which has a rubbing noise in the rear wheel. Found your excellent DIY video to fix this minor problem. Many thanks for your sharing.
Glad it was helpful! Little noises can be very annoying and I’ve seen videos where the riders hear it and say they just ignore it.
This was very helpful. Thank you!
Thanks! this is really great info and will save me a lot from researching the net should I encounter brake issues like this. Cheers!
Another very informative video, perfect timing for me as I noticed that my rear brakes were rubbing a bit this past weekend. Maybe do a video on how to replace the pads when yours wear down.
That is definitely something I will record and try to learn to do properly to share on this channel. Thanks for watching and commenting!

You are awesome. I just checked both my bikes because the front brakes on both are really full and both making that rubbing noise. Sure enough both needed that cable reseated. Lol. Fixed. I cannot believe we have rode 28 miles with them like that. I thought it was the fender rubbing. It was the front brakes.
Thanks for sharing! I always wondered if I might have been the only one with that issue. Glad to hear it was an easy fix for you.
Life saver! Thank you for taking the time to make this video.

I have a set of Zoom Hydraulic brakes waiting on my XP when I get my stimulus check. I am a retired motorcycle mechanic. You are doing a fine job young man,
Thanks so much for the kind words. I really appreciate it!
brilliant very helpful video! I had contacted Lectric about the scraping sound in my brand new bike, and they suggested to just keep on using it as-is, that hopefully after a break in period the scraping would disappear by itself. thanks so much (Lectric should pay you a commission for your assistance to the Lectric community)
Thanks! I appreciate the kind words. I have more Lectric videos planned for gear upgrades and Tannus tire liner installs.
great video..hepled me out with an adjustment on my VIVI bike
Very Nice explanation, easy to Listen & Understand, although I myself will need to watch again to make sure I understand it. I will need recommendation on the correct Torque wrench to buy.
Excellent instructions, thanks!

Glad it was helpful!
Great video! Very useful tips
Glad you think so!
You really do an excellent job on your video's. Thank you
Thanks so much. Glad you like them!
Good video. This is a good quick fix if your inner brake is rubbing. I did make adjustments for both, but the brakes continue to rub. Unfortunately, on both front and back outer brakes. I don't have the strength to loosen the hex nuts on the brake caliper. I guess I will have to live with it. Thanks for the video.
Nicely done. to the point and very informative. Nice smile by the way too!
Thank you for watching and the kind words!
Awesome dude!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Subbed and liked months ago, Thanks again for another in detail and very helpful tutorial. I also watched 7-8 vids.
You summed up everything nicely, my brake levers were becoming very spongy and becoming dangerous as in not
stopping. Front and back levers could be pulled into the handle bars. Barrel adjustments, and tighten the cables did the trick. Thanks!!
Thanks for your video
Most welcome! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great presentation. Sure this is great when a person feels comfortable working on their brakes. I would go to a bike shop to work on my brakes. Ebikes are more heavy than normal bikes so you want to make sure your brakes are working properly when riding.
Yes. You are so right. Brakes are one of the most important safety parts on an ebike and if someone does not feel completely comfortable working on them, I would highly recommend taking it to a pro to get them worked on. I honestly did not feel totally comfortable working on mine, but felt that the mechanics of the brakes seemed pretty straightforward enough that if I felt that something might even be a little questionable, I would stop and take it to my local bike shop. When I first heard the scraping noise I was immediately going to head on down to a shop, but enough youtube videos gave me enough confidence to try some of the simple stuff first. I am still not sure how comfortable I would be to change out worn brake pads, but we'll see when the time comes and I may be ready to tackle that challenge then. Thanks for the comment! Safe riding!
Thank you i had to do the second part with loosining the 2 bolts and locking the break squeezer with strap and it works better now no scraping sound when no breaks squeezed Thank you have a nice day : )
Thanks for the tips mine has been making that scraping noise on the front. I'll do some adjustments appriciate it. :-)
Hopefully your issues are as easily fixed as mine were. Good luck!
First let me tell you that you make some very helpful videos. My question is I live in Va and I store my enoje outdoors with a cover winter can get very cold at time so do you think that I need to remove my battery went the bike is outside?
@@joelmorales3273 Thanks for the kind words! Lithium-ion batteries are sensitive to both hot and cold temperatures and should be kept in moderate temperatures when possible. Here is a great article I found on what is the best temperature's to keep your battery at:
ebikeshq.com/temperatures-ebike-battery-storage-usage-charging/
This is a direct quote taken from that website: "You can think of electric bike batteries as a “Goldilocks” type of device. It doesn’t like to get too hot, neither does it like to get too cold, it prefers temperature ranges that are “just right”. That includes temperatures ranges for charging between 41°F to 113°F (5°C to 45°C), typical use while riding ideally around 68°F (20°C), and storage between 41°F (5°C) and 68°F (20°C). "
Since ebike batteries are very expensive, I remove my battery when the weather brings extreme hot or cold temperatures and being a little extra paranoid, I also have an outlet timer so I never keep the battery charging for more than 8 hours which would be more than enough to charge a really low battery.
Hope that helps!

Vidéo très utile, merci beaucoup ! 👍👍👍
Thanks For A Wonderful Video My Wife And I Are Most Grateful For Your Tips Learning So Much From Your Videos They Have Taken The Stress Off Minor Repairs We Can Do Are Selfs Thanks Again
Glad to help! I appreciate the feedback and have more tutorial stuff coming soon.
Bro! Thank you, with your help, I did it.
Great! Nice work!
THANK YOU.
Thanks for the very helpful vide. On my new XP 2.0, the rear wheel caliper adjustment bolt is partially blocked from the opposite side of the wheel. I had to cut down an Allen wrench to create a very short end (about 3/8") on the right angle. This way I was able to access the adjustment bolt from the caliper side. I wondered if all XP 2.0 bikes were like this.
Ok, I don't have my bike yet, but now I know how to adjust the brakes! Thanks!😎
Happy to help!
Thanks for this video. I'm thinking of getting the XP 2.0.
Good choice!
Ur a life saver thought the disc was bent but it should be that thanks
Thanks for the feedback! Glad the video was helpful!
Great to know. Very helpful😅
Great video
Thanks!
Thank you!
Thank you for the tips, just received my xp and noticed the scraping right off. Can't ride it yet still have snow.
You are my new best friend
Thanks so much I just got my new XP 3 and when I heard that noise just rolling it in my living room I was feeling not so great so I found your video and I did the adjustment although with this new version it doesn’t click it was my front wheel that I had the issue with. It doesn’t click, but I just turned it until the noise went away then I tried to tighten it a little bit to see so I can adjust it just to the point where the noise goes away. And in fact, the noise did go away and I’m a happy camper. Thank you so much you’re legend 😎✌🏼
The only other issue that I see is there’s a chip in the paint on the bike a fairly large chip that happened due to shipping i assume. I guess there’s nothing that can be done about that.
Glad you were able to stop the scraping brake noise. Regarding the chip that happened during shipping, I would reach out to Lectric to let them know what happened and see if they have touch-up paint or any other policy to help you out.
@@EbikeProducts thank you very much. I did reach out to them and they sent me some paint in the mail. The only thing now is my front and rear brakes are making a loud squeaking noise when I brake I’ve only written the bike for 8 miles. I called the company and they told me to clean off the rotors with alcohol so I did that and will see if that helped. Haven’t tried it yet. Maybe I just need to break in the brakes 😂
Hi Greg- my bike also came with a marked chip, so I emailed Lectric with a photo of the problem. Within several days I had a tube of touch up paint in the mail and hubby did an excellent job of repairing the chip. Give Lectric a jingle!
Thanx for that!
You bet!
thx for the help
Brilliant
Thank you
