Well, I might as well start from the beginning. Starting with my 2ds- i mean, uh, DS Lite.
*_4 days until Christmas. 2008._*
Winter time. The time for blankets, hot cocoa, and presents. That's all that filled my 5 year old brain. Presents... what could I get? Super Mario Advance 4 for my Game Boy Advance SP Blue edition? Maybe some new Mario plushies? A game cube?! (Jk, I didn't know what a GameCube was until I got a Wii)
I was sitting down with my mom and dad, watching the tv. My two brothers were in the other room, playing some random game on our old N64. Surprisingly, we didn't own any Mario games on that old thing. My parents only bought the cheap ones, apparently Mario 64 was tOo ExPenSiVe. We only had two controllers, so I couldn't play. Well, I mean, we had three, but the joystick broke on that one, deeming it unusable. I didn't want to play anyways, I wasn't interested.
I had finally watched a commercial for the Nintendo Dual Screen System (The DS, as some called it). And I was simply amazed! I turned my small head toward my mom and dad, pointed to the TV screen, and said
"I want that"
But, since we were struggling with money at the time, my mother sighed sadly. Bad news was incoming. Every time mom sighs, she's about to lay some bad news on you.
"Sorry honey, but we're short on money this month. I'm afraid we can't get you a DS this year."
Despite being a small brat most of the time, I was rather understanding for my age. I looked down and turned back toward the tv, and said "okay..."
Let's skip to Christmas Day. LOADS of presents were underneath the tree. We went through most of them, mostly being shirts of our favorite games and games for our old console. Soon, we went through all the presents.
"Hold on, we still have a few more!" My dad said, going into his room.
Of course! Surprise gifts! Parents always hide the best gifts for last! We scour the house trying to look for the secret presents, however we couldn't find them. They always seemed to... Appear. At least to my young self, they did.
My first brother got a brand new PlayStation 3, with a copy of Crash Bandicoot and that one Sonic Collection game thing (which we still have to this day)
My other brother got an Xbox 360, with a copy of Sonic Unleashed (which I also still have)
Then came to me. I had only two presents from then yet to open. A small thin box, and a larger yet also rather small box. I unwrap the bigger one first... And it was... It was..!
I got a Nintendo DS! I got the thing i wanted that they said I couldn't get! What was the other present? Well, it was my very first Mario game I had ever received. New Soup Ds? Mario Party? Well... No. My very first Mario game was Mario Kart DS. And let me tell you, I played that game SO much! Years and years i spend racing everyone, only going to 50cc since I was too scared by the other speed difficulties. Oh and you better believe I completed all the missions! It was hard, but I did it.
But then, years later... We got a Wii. And young me decided that I didn't need my DS anymore. Granted, I enjoyed my Wii, but my DS got lost to the void that is my closet.
Fast forward to the launch of the 3ds, which flooded my mind with old memories of tossing shells at racers as Luigi in the Poltergust Kart. Remembering this, I went to my closet and tossed everything out of any container, until I found it. I grabbed my old chewed up charger and plugged it in, waiting for it to charge before I went to play it. After about an hour, I thought it was charged enough. I took it off the charger and opened it up... Only to find that the top screen was hanging on by a single wire. The bottom screen worked, just... Not the top one. I was so... Saddened. Here I am, wanting to re-live the simple times of New Soup and Maro Krat, but I can't. But you know what I did? I took whatever game was in my DS at the time, and the rest of my ds games, and stored them in a plastic baggy under my bed. I put my DS in a shoe box, and put it back in my closet. It was also winter time, so I could reasonably ask my dad for presents to get at Christmas. My parents were divorced at this time, long story short I live with my dad and visit Mom every other weekend and holidays. Before winter break, I asked him if, for Christmas, I could get a Nintendo 3ds. He pulled the "sorry, I can't afford it this year" speech. But, I was still dumb enough to think that meant i wouldn't ACTUALLY get it. So, when i went to my mom's house for the winter, I asked her. She said "Sure! I'll pick up some Mario games too for you"
Sure enough, came Christmas day, I got a black 3ds with Super Mario 3d land, New Soup 2, and M&L Dream Team (all games i still have!)
But, once I got back to my dad's in around January... I got a 3ds from him, too. A blue one, with Luigi's Mansion 2 (I refuse to call it dark moon fight me), that one Wreck it Ralph game that people forgot about, and Mario Kart 7. So I guess I had 2 Nintendo 3ds'! Hooray!(?)
Years later, when I finally got a step brother (longer story, he was 5 at the time), I decided to give my blue 3ds to my little brother, along with my big Mario and Luigi case, and a few games (The Wreck it Ralph one and that's it lol). I later bought a smaller Mario case for my DS and games, soon getting more 3ds games as they came out, like Sticker Star, Paper Jam, Superstar Saga DX, Inside Story DX, etc. I love that thing, and I still have it to this day. Now if you excuse me, I'm going to take my copy of Bowser's Inside Story and start a new file so I can play the whole game again. I hope you enjoyed reading this.

I'm really excited at the opportunity to share my history with the 3ds. This system had a huge impact on my middle school years, introduced me to new friends, and really cemented gaming as a primary hobby for me.
I got my 3ds in April of 2012, at the time I was in 5th grade and had very limited funds. I spent about a month prior to my birthday of that year deciding whether to get a 3ds or an iPod touch, because both were in similar price brackets and would function as personal devices I could use individually in my room. I had a DS lite and MP3 player at the time, and access to a wii and laptop that both stayed in the family room, so this would have been my first personal device with internet browsing capabilities. I ultimately decided on the 3ds thinking that I really wanted to play games and the iPod was more of a multimedia device. I saved money a little bit longer and spent hours looking at what games were available so I could decide which one I wanted as my first game on the system. I remember narrowing it down to Starfox 64 and KI:U and just spending hours looking at gameplay videos of the first levels of each game (so I didn't spoil too much for myself) and reading reviews. Finally, my birthday came and I had saved up the money necessary to buy the system, and my parents got me a game of my choice as a birthday gift. I ended up going for Uprising and played LOADS of it. I remember each time I thought I was close to the end of the game another twist would come in and the story would take a whole new direction.
Looking back at my activity log I see that during the first few months of my time with the 3ds I played loads of demos. I had a friend who lived the next street over so that our back yards were diagonal of each other who also had a 3ds. He and I both were in situations where we didn't buy 3ds games all that often due to how expensive they were, so we both downloaded loads of demos. I remember in particular us both playing the Crush 3D demo over and over again, both kind of enamored with the premise of switching between 2D and 3D views to solve puzzles. To this day I haven't actually played the full version of the game (it's retail only, though It's incredibly cheap online, so I don't know why I haven't) but I'm sure even if I did it wouldn't have the same impact as that demo did.
The 3ds was my entry into a lot of video game culture and nintendo franchises. On my DS I had played Metroid Prime Hunters on a friend's R4 cartridge in 3rd grade, I believe, and since that time I had been in love with the franchise's lonely atmosphere and exploration aspects. One of the first games I payed for on the Eshop was Metroid for the NES. I put hours into trying to beat that game, I remember specifically I printed off a map I found online and crossed off areas as I went. I think I actually still have that print somewhere in my closet. Metroid was just one of many franchises that I began to fully explore through my 3ds.
Another factor that aided in the 3ds introducing me to older Nintendo franchises were the friends I made as a result of the 3ds. At school there was a kid a grade ahead of me who I often saw at school playing games on a 3ds. Being way more brave (or maybe naive) socially then than I am now I approached him and asked about whether he liked Pikmin (I was really interested in that at the time having rented it from the video store for the family Wii). I don't remember exactly how things played out from there, I remember it overall being a somewhat awkward exchange (as randomly approaching someone from a different grade level and asking them about video games usually is) but somehow out of that we eventually became friends.
This led to early middle school and a period of time in my life where I met up with this kid from school almost weekly at the town's local library. Each week on Wednesday the library's teen center held what was called "Wii Wednesday" where they hooked up a Wii to the TV in the first room of the teen center and let anyone play. The kid had 2 brothers that were also always at the library with him, among other things in part because they didn't have internet at their house and the library had free wifi. One of his brothers was 4 grades ahead of me and the other was 1 grade below me. The older brother also had a friend who was in the same grade as him (coincidentally they were also in the same grade as my sister, who they were at least familiar with from being in honors english classes). While the younger brother would often go off and do his own thing, the kid a grade ahead of me, his older brother, his older brother's friend, and I would hang out each Wednesday. We rarely actually played the wii (maybe a round of SSBB when I first arrived) and instead would always go to this study room and hang out with our 3ds's and laptops borrowed from the library. It was always loads of fun, and we'd discuss new rumors or nintendo directs and releases while playing games. This group of friends introduced me to emulation, which I am now very into, and got me into loads of nintendo franchises. I don't know why we only met on Wednesdays, since we rarely played the wii and those 3 friends were almost always at the library anyway because that was where there was wifi and it got them out of their house, but for whatever reason I only went on Wednesdays. I guess I lived far enough away from the library that my dad had to drive me, and though he never minded doing so I never bothered asking until it was wednesday.
One game I specifically remember being introduced to by those friends was Animal Crossing. I remember when New Leaf came out it was a huge deal for them. The one who was a grade ahead of me tried really hard to convince me to buy the game, and while I resisted for a while because games were so expensive I eventually gave in and bought it. I bought it the evening after a Relay for Life even in my community, and I remember going to walmart and picking it up, and starting my island fairly late into the evening when all the shops were closed. I just ran around and collected shells for a little while. But following that purchase every week when I met up with these friends we would visit each other's islands and trade items and whatnot. Honestly, New Leaf might be the best experience I had with that system and how it connected me with friends. My town never got to the point where my friends' towns got, but I still had loads of funs. As series veterans they also knew loads of secrets I didn't know, so they were constantly teaching me new mechanics to the game. I remember one time in particular where there was a farmer's market going on downtown where I lived, and my sister was playing music to raise money for the high school orchestra so I had to tag along. My mom let me wander off and go to the library, which was near the downtown square. I had brought my 3ds with me and when I got to the library I went to the teen center. There were very few people there, certainly no one I knew (the teen center wasn't particularly popular at 11:00am on a saturday when everyone was likely sleeping in) so I just sat there and made some designs in Animal Crossing, which I had brought with me. I don't know why this memory stands out to me so much, but I guess it was just incredibly calming, even though I was alone.
There's loads more I could talk about but I'm sure this is already longwinded enough. As I got out of middle school and went on into high school I got more into PC gaming and started to play my 3ds a lot less. I never stopped playing Nintendo games, but just spent a lot more time emulating older games on my PC hardware. I stopped hanging out with those friends for Wii Wednesday eventually, as it became harder for me to get to the library after my dad died and my mom would usually work really late, and I became a lot more invested in my school work so spending a couple hours at the library was harder to rationalize. Looking back on it now I wish I had made more of an effort to stay connected with those friends and spent more time hanging out with them, I could have easily ridden my bike to the library and met up with them, but I guess it is what it is. Ultimately, though, I would never have met them without a 3ds, and would never have developed this enjoyment for gaming without their influence, so in many respects the 3ds was the catalyst that got me into gaming. Even to this day, though I have a switch and excellent computer, I still often return to my 3ds. I just earlier this month purchased LoZ: OoT, and am loving my time playing through that. It is my first time really playing through a Zelda game (I have started games previously but never stuck with them, likely again due to time and school work) and with all the time I have during quarantine I am confident that I will complete it. Looking back on it I can confidently state that the 3ds was a much better investment than the iPod, and I have the friends I met and wonderful experiences I had and continue to have 9 years after purchasing it to back that.
This is such a lovely story, thank you so much for sharing :)

@@jackg5321 Ok, so I usually leave my 3DS on sleep mode in my purse or backpack when I'm out, and at my uni there were regulars you'd pass by. However, when I went to one of my classes the green light lit right when this one girl Laura sat next to me. After a few classes I got suspicious that it was her who also carried her 3DS around. A couple of weeks in, I was early to class, alone, and was playing FE Awakening to pass the time, and she just stomps right in the room and almost yells, "HEY ARE YOU CHIQUI MY DS LIGHTS UP WHEN YOU'RE AROUND ALSO YOUR MII IS CUTE!" Chiqui is my mii's name btw.
After class we talked and she introduced her best friend to me who was also in the class (her friend was super shy). We hit it off by our similar tastes in anime and kpop.
But her friend, Angel, coincidentally had a similar class schedule to mine so we ended up studying together A LOT. During study breaks we'd watch Jdramas and anime and found out that we were basically twins. Same taste in fashion. Same taste in music. Same taste in men (oh lordt we bonded over this). Same taste in food. Same interests in video games. Same culture. Both of us love to bake. We were bound to be sisters. However, we became forever sisters when she motivated me to manage my eating disorder. She helped me when my dad was hospitalized. I helped her with other very serious things but then I'd just be gushing. (;ω;)
Anyways Angel and Laura quickly became very important to me after hanging out and bonding a lot. I introduced to them my bestie, they introduced another friend, and we immediately hit off. Years since then we experienced so much together...new jobs, bridal and baby showers, road trips, even hardships, so much! I'm so grateful for them.
All of this because of my 3DS. I would have never talked to Laura and Angel if it weren't for my DS, really. I was really timid, and it still amazes me to this day how this little console gifted me my most favorite people!!!
Also sorry if this is long!!!

Awesome video! I recently picked up a Switch lite but I fondly remember my 3DS days. From buying the fire red original to upgrading to the cool blue XL model I loved that handheld. So much was packed into it.
Backwards compatibility with my DS games, street pass with mini games, an actual music player and video player, online store and the ability to make stop-motion projects. There was a lot to love. I can remember drawing a super cute picture from animal crossing and posting it to Miiverse, or scanning QR codes to get other Mii's in Mario Kart 7.
Just an amazing handheld. 😍

The minute they announced Ocarina of Time 3D I bought a 3DS and haven't regretted it since.
i regretted buying Luigi Mansion as my first game, couldnt stand playing it for 10 mins
Man of Hokuto I completely disagree. Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon was my first 3DS game and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Granted, it’s not as good as the first Luigi’s Mansion game; but it’s pretty difficult to top a masterpiece of that caliber.
Here's hoping for Luigi's Mansion 3!
That's right
Funny you should all say so, I wanted to get the system soley for Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon.
I was just a kid, then.
I got it for Christmas, and I bought Luigi's mansion months after with the money I earned shoveling driveways.
To get the original Luigi's Mansion at the end of its life cycle meant that the stars aligned fir me.
I'm glad I played it.

What a lovely video. Your timeline describing what stage of your life during each console release is exactly the same as mine. After buying a 3DS day one, unfortunately I didn't really touch the during the last 5-6 years after the birth of my first kid. But on its 10 anniversary I found a New 3DS XL a ridiculous price and reinvested. It's now like a brand new console has just released except this time the launch lineup is loaded with AAA titles and more than I could ever hope to play. Can't wait to get stuck back in!

I'd agree but it wasn't receiving the full support it deserved as the sequel to Q1 so I'd wait to see if we'll get a switch version of it later, Atlus admitted the 3DS was on it's way out and the game wouldn't get the same treatment others had. It's not even just about dubbing and voice acting preferences, there are some parts it's impossible to understand what's happening if you don't speak fluid Japanese. Bad move on Atlus to still give it to westerners and Europe

@@luckmanelm1995 It is cheaper at least where I live. New 3DS is not being sold anymore, but you can buy used 3DS XL online for ~150$, which is the price of brand new 2DS XL.
Ergonomically speaking, yes, OLD 2DS is kinda wonky, I have one myself and it is not as comfy as New 3DS XL. Still better than e.g. PSP imo.

Being able to play DS games on the later 2 systems(I've never owned a 3DS or 3DS XL so far) was amazing to me. I took it to Japan with me when I went over there for my 30th birthday, I got so many street pass hits compared to in the UK where it was very unusual to get 9 hits in one day. In Japan (at least in Tokyo) I found I was getting about 8 hits in about 40 minutes!

I got the 3ds for Christmas one years I can’t remember if it was 2012 or 2013. I remember playing luigis mansion dark moon and writing my own version of the story in my notebook. I also remember playing sonic generations on the school bus, and everybody watched as I beat the game after a couple tries. It was awesome. And boy did I play the heck out of Mario 3d land. I must’ve played that last level 100 times, and to this day, I haven’t even unlocked the special 8 final level. I also remember bringing my 3ds to a show and tell in elementary school and talking about when you select a game it played a jingle. The 3ds is my favorite handheld of all time, and I doubt that will change.
I remember first getting this and happily playing Nintendogs plus Cats on my grandmothers livingroom floor... constantly shaking the system to get the max 10 step coins... playing around in the AR fishing... changing my shirt color to help beat streetpass games.... this handheld really made alot of my childhood memories, and ill always treasure the system. There is nothing more satisfying than hearing that click as the device opened up ❤️ love your videos Arlo, u reawaken the nintendo fanboy inside of me
When the 3DS came out, I was early in high school, so my dad was impressed that I was able to save up $100 towards it. I was intending to save the rest on my own slowly, but my dad decided to cover the rest of the cost himself. That was really awesome. I didn't have money for a game to go with it, so I spent most of my time playing AR Games, Face Raiders, and using the L and R buttons to drum along to my favorite tunes in the 3DS Sound app (Yeah, I bet you forgot about 3DS Sound, didn't you? And it didn't even require .aac files like all the Wii and DSi stuff did!). My first game was Dead or Alive Dimensions which I admittedly only bought for the pretty girl on the cover, but it was a fun 3D fighting game nonetheless. Shortly followed by Bust-A-Move Universe, since I love puzzle games and it was a budget title selling for $10 below what every other new 3DS game was selling for at that point. Really fun game, too. It had a bunch of achievements that added a lot of replay value (Although, as with many puzzle games that have achievements, a number of them were for doing things that were basically entirely up to RNG to actually pull off).
These days, I barely ever boot up my 3DS. At home, I'll play on my gaming PC, my Switch, or my PS4. Out and about, when I have spare time for gaming, I'll usually play something on my phone (Usually Pokemon Go). But as I have a softmodded system, I do have a lot of retro games on there that were never added to the eShop. Particularly GBA games. Most of my rare time spent playing my 3DS nowadays is in the Puzzle League side of Dr. Mario & Puzzle League on GBA. I like to grind for new best scores in the Time Zone mode. Prior to having that, I just did the same in the official eShop release of Pokemon Puzzle Challenge. The one unfortunate thing about GBA emulation on the 3DS is that it drains the battery life like crazy, and you can't put it in sleep mode while playing, either (Closing the lid will turn off the screen and mute the speakers as if it actually is going into sleep mode, but the rate at which the battery still drains in that state proves that the game is very much still running at full throttle the entire time). Every time I find myself having to throw it back into my backpack while I'm playing, I'll send it back to the home menu first, or even power it off, just to save battery. Only needed when playing GBA games, though.
If I had to choose a favorite... I think my #1 3DS game would have to be Animal Crossing New Leaf. It's one of those games where I've played the crap out of it, and I STILL love it, but I feel like I've already done everything in it that interests me. I unlocked both the minigames they added in the Welcome Amiibo update (AC Puzzle League's gameplay is an abomination compared to previous games, mind you), paid off all the loans, decorated my house with all kinds of different themes... Even started planning out my city with PWPs and laying my own custom design cobblestone pathing everywhere, planting flowers and trees in specific locations, etc. A few too many long nights spent on the island catching bugs for money so that I could afford to buy all the benches and fountains later, I started to feel like I was just going through the motions a little bit. Plus, you know, other games came along and took my attention away, as it always does with AC games (And Nintendogs, which is another game that makes you feel like a terrible person if you come back to it again after not touching it for a few months). That actually happened twice for this one, since the big update got me to pick the game up again once! That all being said... I can't WAIT to see Animal Crossing on Switch!
Absolutely underrated comment.

I’m so proud of the 3DS. It started off at a bad spot, it managed to get right back on track.
It's even more impressive if you consider how harsh the competition was, with the Vita having much better hardware and smartphones taking over almost the entire portable gaming market.

I just realized today that i still don't have a 3DS or 2DS.
Thanks to this video i also realized *_All the great games i missed this whole time._*
I'd say it's about time for me to get one.
I bought a 3DS a week ago now everyone says it's dead....NOOO!!!! FML!!!
My only issue with that strategy is the increasing number of online-centric or even online-only games.
I [had] to have a Wii U on day one to have as good of a Call of Duty and Need for Speed experience as I did.
Buying a 3DS today means having almost nobody online to play Kid Icarus or Smash Bros with. And those who bought a Wii/DS in 2014 or later have literally no online functionality anymore, rendering the systems and their games fundamentally crippled in many ways (Pokémon Battle Revolution on Wii being nearly pointless after 2014), the worst example of this issue being in January 2019, with the Wii losing its entire downloadable library of 427 Virtual Console titles (across NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, NEC TurboGrafx-16, and Arcade) and more than 20 of its 330 original _WiiWare_ titles were never ported to other consoles/PC (which would have rendered those games outright *lost* media if it wasn’t for the modern-day modding/hacking community providing those games’ ISO files on the web before the Wii Shop Channel’s shutdown on January 31, 2019)
Also as of late 2017, the 3DS and Wii U were heavily crippled when Miiverse was shut down, ending the social element of Nintendo hardware; and this outright disabled important features in Wii U games like Zelda Wind Waker and Super Mario Maker.
Buying a console at its end of life isn’t the same this decade as it was last decade. I wasn’t missing out on too much when I picked up my PS1 in 2003 (1995 console, phased out by Sony in 2005), my Dreamcast in 2007 (1999 console, phased out by Sega in 2001), or my PS2 in 2009 (2001 console, phased out by Sony in 2013)
But consoles like the 3DS and Wii U are going to be even more crippled than the Wii and DS whenever their internet functionality is phased out.
Don't forget Atlus' contributions to the grand library and absurd lifespan of the system. They've even made the 3DS's final major retail game, Persona Q2.
atlus said sike
I know the end of your video was sarcastic but I'm going to tell my story anyway. I got my (first) 3DS after the initial price drop. Around Black Friday of 2011, GameStop had a deal where you trade in a DS Lite and get a Zelda edition black 3DS with OoT3D for $129.99 and I gladly took that opportunity. Being able to play OoT on a handheld system amazed me.
I was an only child and grew up in the GBA/Gamecube era, so playing multiplayer games wasn't really a thing for me unless I remembered to bring a link cable, or unless I had a friend over. Even in the DS era it was sometimes hard to play Pokemon with people because they might have a gen 5 game and you had gen 4, or maybe you just weren't really good friends with them and didn't want to take time out of the school day to have a battle. The 3DS fixed these problems. I would leave it on and carry it around in my backpack, and the amount of people I would streetpass was crazy. I met and befriended some people because I recognized them on streetpass, and we bonded over our Animal Crossing towns or our Pokemon teams. Even today I go back and look at everyone I met on Streetpass and I get super emotional.
This past year I bought my girlfriend a 2DS because she really wanted to play OoT and Mario Kart 7. Even though I have a Switch now, and we can play multiplayer on that, there is still something really magical about each pulling out our own systems, connecting, and playing sitting right next to each other. Do I have Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Switch? Yes. Does that mean I will be playing Mario Kart 7 on the 3DS any less? Absolutely not.
And the same goes for Pokemon. The amount of hours I spilled into X, Alpha Sapphire, and Moon are insane. I loved every Pokemon game I played on the 3DS, and I traded so many Pokemon with my friends, and battled with random people at conventions.
I even took the thing on a trip to France. The charger didn't work with the power converter I had, so I actually went to game shop and bought a power adapter for that region. Other people on the trip judged me because they said I shouldn't be playing video games on the trip, but they didn't seem to understand that it was my camera. It wasn't a good camera by any means, but EVERYONE was in awe of the 3D pictures I had taken by the end of that trip. And I still have those pics now, and they still look really cool.
To wrap up my novel here, I absolutely adore this system. I have had a few since then, such as a New 3DS, New 3DS XL, and 2DS, but I still have my original Zelda edition cosmo black 3DS, and it got me through some tough times in my life. So although I will continue playing my Switch throughout its hopefully long lifespan, I will always go back to the 3DS and remember the good times I had with it. Thank you Nintendo for bringing so much joy to my teenage years.

Honestly I've still been playing my 3DS nearly every day after all these years (I got my first one in 2011) and I only touch my Switch about once or twice a month. It's sad to see it go, but hopefully they make the Switch more appealing in some shape or form. My final 3DS game I buy shall be Persona Q2.
I'm still guessing that we'll someday get Etrian Odyssey 3 Untold.
Best memory: playing Smash Bros with my friends on the school bus. Victory wasn't always mine but I still had fun.
Worst memory. Circle Pad breaks off the 3DS playing Smash Bros.
I was more of a Gameboy Advanced and DS Lite kid, (Maybe some Gamecube and Wii mixed in there too) playing the classic Zelda games, Nintendogs, Pokemon and basically every mario game in existence. I grew very attached to my DS lite and I was heartbroken when the 3DS came out because that ultimately stopped me from playing my 10 year old system at that point. My DS Lite became obsolete and I was forced to port to another console, BUT I have had a lot of fun with my 3DS and it made me get back into one of my favorite franchises of all time, POKEMON. For the longest time I hadn't been able to play Pokemon because all the new releases were for the newer model that I didn't like or own, but with the 3DS I could play the new games and have tons of fun with the better graphics and new mechanics and honestly I wish I had gotten one sooner. Getting into those new games also brought back the childhood gamer in me and gave me a resurgence to collect P-cards again and without the 3DS I'm pretty sure I would not be as hyped for Sword and Shield as I am right now nor even want the game, so I'm very thankful to the 3DS for giving me back my love for gaming. The 3DS can also play older games as well so that makes up for having to get rid of my DS Lite. I'm sad that the DS basically died after the Switches announcement, but I'm happy I got to experience such a wonderful console that let me get back into my childhood.
The 2ds XL is probably selling really well. My friend just bought one and I bought one a few months ago.
The 2ds XL is not a bad option if you really want to play all 3ds games including the "new" ones, but don't care for the 3D feature. And honestly, the 3D feature being not so great wasn't a disappointment to me. Even on the New 3DS, the 3D feature still wasn't amazing by any means

It was the same thing with my DS Lite when the 3DS first came out, I turned back to the DS games to finish some off and enjoy the system for a bit longer.
I guess the memories and nostalgia cannot be helped. (Until Pokémon and New Horizons comes out)

That's Sad
I loved Streetpassing on conventions. Good times. You eventually even made some new friends by that.
I LOVED those events.
My favorite was the Mario Maker one.
I was at a convention a week ago, brought my 3DS, and met a bunch of people in streetpass. Really surprised me. It's not completely dead just yet :)
Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me. I need to go buy yo Kai watch 3...
Update: I now have the game!
Whoops forgot that existed
I highly recommend it.
shadow king good luck finding it
Raskolnikov Damn, it isn’t in stock anywhere. Glad I bought a copy at launch.
@@anamewritinwater I'm getting it digitally
Arlo: I know ya'll got stacks of 3ds games
Me: **Laughs in homebrew**
My friend is selling me a 3ds for 30 bucks (not used alot) should i homebrew it? Can you get any games you want on it?
@@hugo9016 yes you can, my bro was actually the one who homebrewed it, its just that i hadn't updated the software since 4 months ago so i think thats a factor you have to look into. just make sure it was last updated a long time ago because depending on when it was updated, it will be harder or easier to homebrew. You can get any games as you can fit onto the sd card and you should definitely take the 3ds for 30 bucks. I reccommend you heavily research homebrewing and learn how to transfer your file onto a much higher capacity sd card (Like 32 gb or 64) because you'll definitely need it. goodluck.
@@originalrecipe6113 he hasent used it for 3 years ish
@@hugo9016 are yOU SERIOUS GET NOW YOU CAN PROBABLY HOMEBREW IT SO EASILY U KIDDING ME THATS MY WET DREAM i'm pretty sure the security on the 3ds is so bad you could probably just switch files around with 0 trouble. Still, look up a guide. you should definitely cop
@@originalrecipe6113 xd i tried it on my dsi and it worked like a charm
i still adore my ds collection. my first was was a ds lite which i tore in two fighting with my cousin over the first boss in zelda spirit tracks. despite my horror, this is one of my favourite childhood memories. and despite it’s shortcomings that zelda game is sat snug in my heart, i love it so so much because of that experience. i had to wait one long year before being allowed a dsi. the first console i ever bought with my own money was my 3ds XL and as a ten year old i took that very very seriously lol. i love these consoles so much i play them often today. my parents were very hesitant to let me play video games so my ds and the family og wii were all i had until recently. now turning 18 im starting up the gamer gurl life i always wanted. im very thankful for the 3ds, god rest it’s soul lol
