- Miis. Those quirky little avatars you made of you and your friends back on the Wii, that were such a large part of Nintendo’s identity. Yet, nowadays people feel like they’re disappearing, and it seems Nintendo's forgotten about them. Why are they being phased out?

Fun fact: Breath Of The Wild's NPC are all built from Mii data.
The Yiga often chose the most punchable, or Punched in looking faces as well. 😂😂😂
first time miis actually looked likeable xD
You hate Miis?
@@VenusFeuerFalleI'm afraid that's incorrect
Thats why the suck so hard
The Mii’s slow disappearance in games won’t stop me from making MORE MIIS!!!!
SAME
Same but I'm still mad at the 100 mii limit on the switch. Why did they do that?!
Same!
I made plenty of Miis.
@@jungeebunglez8599probably because the switch can barely hold more than 5 games of data at a time in the first place. Considering they have made a 500 mii limit in the Wii U though I think it’s a little sad
I don’t trust people who use the sportsmates instead of Miis.
switch sports isn't a game it's a ip that makes you budge because of nostalgia.
@@numeral382 exactly. they didn't even try to make miis cuz the body proportions are different (more "human-like")
It’s called “gen alpha”
The kind of japanese doll you referred to being an inspiration of putting miis in a wiimote is called a kokeshi doll and I dont know why i know that
You watched Nichijou or are just another type of weeb? Japanese fascination isn't exactly a new thing.
@@rockstopsthetraffic
Those are the only two options?
You can be a non-weeb Japanese student, lol -- in my experience, weebs drop out of language classes really early on once it's clear their passion doesn't translate into immediate skill
@@Atylonisus yeah, and the hardcore weebs who are better at hiding it, stay ;)
thomas game docs?
I think Mii won’t have much of a appearance in the remaining switch games. They are probably waiting for the next console to retool Miis, adding clothing and rebrand them for Nintendos’ needs.
I would really like it if you could record a voice for Miis. Also, I hope the next console will have a microphone and camera like the DS family.
@@Octopus2480 Agree, I think microphone and camera can add up to the cost(but maybe not much). How about it being an optional accessory. I think giving Mii proper customisable cloth and your voice idea goes well. I think it can be renamed as Mytendo. You can also adjust the body size(even though the default should be the same as Miis in Wii)
Man oh man I HOPE so
I'm hoping they have more relevancy on the next switch console, I really miss how creative old Nintendo consoles were- the music, the graphics, the stylization and the colours on top of the customization options are all something I miss greatly. Not to mention the little communication options like miiverse and friend statuses
@@ahhh6328 Make have more color and also let you attach accessories like screens and VR goggles. I think maybe a Nintendoverse like the metaverse would be a great idea. I just don’t see the benefit of metaverse in productivity and mainly are just another social media thing.
I think at this point, the Miis are so iconic, they can't scrap them entirely. It's literally impossible.
But at the same token, Miis has certainly worn off their novelty.
From a long desire of Nintendo wanting their implementation of making & using avatars for games; Miitopia on the switch is the only game to offer strong customization with them.
Personally, I think it would be best for Nintendo to eventually move on from them & make a new robust avatar system. There also needs a whole line-up of games dedicated to them, or else it will suffer the same fate of Miis not being used as much anymore. Perhaps both systems should be supported, so Miis aren't entirely phased out.
Nintendo games doing absolutely nothing with Miis is whats holding them back, and I can only speculate even they're bored of it.
@@risa1467 Basically each game wants to have their own avatars.
@@fixedfunshow That much is true. Miis that are featured throughout their games are rather limited in scope, the creator was designed to be heavily limited, and the only one that even goes beyond their limitations is Miitopia for the Switch. Obviously cannot have Miis fit in where they shouldn't too, which goes against developer visions.
Reading that Zelda BOTW & TOK converts Miis into generated NPCs into their style shows that the tech for something ambitious can be done. Will Nintendo share that tech for other studios to implement on the Switch? Probably not.
Or... if we can have Mario Talent Studio return back as a new flagship avatar system Nintendo can use, that'd be great.
What I liked about matt is theres hidden lore in the training rooms
You can see old pictures of him at his peak with trophys and such and now hes retired to train the next generation
maybe he's like wii sports's version of doc louis: they're both african-american, have facial hair, and are great at boxing
I've always thought of Matt as a dad-figure to our Mii's idk that's just a bit of lore I made up in my head
@@kiara23422 still makes sense. He's a father figure who's trying to pass his legacy onto you
I think the Miis won't die. They will just appear less.
There is an easteregg in the Mario Bros Movie with a Mii, Nintendo still knows about them.
But I doubt they will get one more game on their own anymore.
What easter egg?
@@JohnLattanzio98 At the beginning, when Mario and Luigi are at the restaurant, Mario, I think it is Mario, picks up his phone, because someone calls him.
And the picture of the in this moment unknown caller is on the shape of a Mii.
@@SogehtMathe ah that's right. Thats the scene that has the GameCube jingle
@@JohnLattanzio98 This video literally shows the easter egg...
@@Mari_Izu yeah I didn't watch the video entirely when I made that comment. Also I knew about that Easter egg, but I thought the comment was referring to another reference, which is why I was confused cuz I only knew of the one reference
I love the idea of social miidea
Miitomo was the nearest thing. Though the functionalities and usefulness were very limited and it wasn't excellent in user behavior management.
social miidia is the best, but just keep them away from twiitter
Imagine a Mii-themed media where people act like Miis; like everyone has Mii icons and they say wacky things like what Miis say in TomoLife
Like imagine people posting food with Mii like captions or something like that; a central for people to roleplay as Miis. That'd be so silly and fun I think.
*TOMODACHI LIFE 2 ON THE SWITCH WILL HAPPEN SOMEDAY, I BELIEVE!*
I hope the next Nintendo Console has games that seriously uses Miis.
Same 😊
Actually Nintendo does care for their fans. Want proof? I send them a letter and they responded and gave me bookmarks!
@traviscunningham7062 what does the bookmarks look like? Also which nintendo you sent the letter sorry for being nosy I'm just curious 😅 😉 because I might try it
I just want a Miitopia sequel
Breath of the Wild used Miis as a basis for designing its NPCs so I suppose they were there in spirit
miitomo was incredible and it’s genuinely a shame it’s gone. i feel very lucky to have experienced it for the short time it was around. the closest thing i can compare it to was that summer in 2016 when everyone was playing pokemon go. every nintendo mobile game since has been alright, but they can only capture a fraction of miitomo’s magic
miitomo was awful, was too limited, not much to do, and the little interesting things cost money
I remember getting my 3DS for the first time and making Miis of all my family and friends. I love the Miis and I hope they see a comeback on the next Nintendo console
I think Miis will 100% be on the next console. Probably even in an even lesser form than on the Switch, but they’ll be there. My main reason for thinking this is backwards compatibility. I’m positive Switch 2 will be backwards compatible, and since some games use Miis, the next console needs them.
if they make a switch 2 retro compatible with switch games miis have to be there so you can use them on new mario kart 8 super deluxe
Tomodachi Life will always be the greatest use of Miis ever made. That is pure gold.
Crazy how I just found this video in the wild and mouth went agape when I saw my video footage covering the Mii Makers!! Glad you enjoyed that video of mine and this is a very excellent video!!
In the 2000's my older cousin had a Wii and a disks case filled with big Wii titles, but when i used to come to her house i always had her turning on the Wii for me to make Miis of our family members and putting them next to each other while listening to the Mii lobby music, i miss those days
Nintendo making Mii's lesser known on the switch feels like neglecting a newborn baby
Thanks to Miitomo, I managed to rip my own Mii characters as models and use them in GMod to make nice pictures featuring them. I also mess around with Unity, making a test platformer featuring my Mii's. Thanks to kaeru:tomo, I can still (kinda) use Miitomo!
Oh nice!
You’re into something and i wanna talk more about it lol
**Unstructured Gush Warning**
The Miis are GOATed. They were, for a time, almost like my "special interest." I've always been hellbent on being immersed in games whenever I played them (usually accomplished by enthralling gameplay, but if it's my first time playing a game, I want to play it in a quiet place so things like story, characters, music, and environments hit harder), which is hard to accomplish in a loud/bright/noisy place, but Mii Maker found a way to just enthrall me (Mii).
I've made (and backed up to my Wii U) about 70 Miis, mostly based on fictional characters I like. I've made a good Mii character or 2 that really pushes the built-in system, and I've made a few... Not great... Miis that still make fun use of the system (SIDE NOTE: If anyone knows how to make good looking red eyes on the Wii and 3DS Mii Makers - Not Tomodachi Life's, the Switch's, or Miitopia's Mii Makers - Let me know).
Once I get the time to play more games, read more books, and watch more movies, I'll likely hit the cap of 100 unique Miis based on those new experiences.
My 3DS SD Card got corrupted along with all my games and save data, but the Miis stayed because they were part of the 3DS, and being honest: With how much time I put into making and editing it, if I had one thing to choose to salvage, my Mii collection would probably have been it.
I love miitopia so much, it made me like Miis, when I didn’t care about them before
Yeah my characters use a LOT of makeup to look not like miis, but now I use a mii as my profile picture on my switch, and he’s the cutest little guy ever
Next Nintendo console needs to let us edit mii's like how they do in Miitopia. The customization in that game for mii's is amazing
Since the next console will probably take a while, I think the big N should finally cave in and just give us a tomodachi on switch. Could be a sequel, a remaster like miitopia, just something. Shame Amiibo probably will be just dust collectors though, skylanders but with amiibo could have sold both the game and amiibo solidly.
Although the 3DS mii maker wasn’t on a TV, I still think it had a great social aspect. My sisters and I would play a game where we both try to make a funny looking mii and then we send them to each other at the same time.
I think the miis, mainly on the wii. for being able to create anyone like family and such was a major staple for people. Like racing your Grandma on Wii Play Cows was a great Memory for a lot of people.
when i found out i was mortal enemies with my mom's mii in tomodachi life, i nearly died of laughter
Street pass and miiverse should be on the next console
such a great creator
3:13 that looks so cursed 💀💀💀
I Hope Nintendo will bring More Games With miis on The next Console
I hope they return full on in the next console, the traditional ones could be used in Mario and party game while BotW introduced a footprint for "anime-like" Miis that could be used in games where the characters have a more realistic proportions, so you could have the same Mii that could fit on various kinds of games.
The miis must never die...! The sportsmates shall not replace the mii!
Also, this one 3ds game "dead heat breakers" had a unique implementation of miis.
Yeah, that game turned your Miis into furrys!
Bloody loved the Miis. Give me Mii or give Mii death.
Give Mii liberty
Give *Mii* mercy, give *Mii* true freedom, _give _*_Mii_*_ everything I want!_
i will make an army of opal miis to fuel the miivolution!
At least there is a channel called Mii Daily, which keeps the mii spirit alive.
I think Miis will disappear from the next console’s games, but will just be an option for Nintendo Online account profile pictures.
When I initially saw the Miis I was quite disappointed thinking they were too limited, but spend anytime with the Mii maker you will quickly find out that they have so much character and the options that are there are perfect for capturing most peoples appearances in a Mii form.
They did not forget, they eradicated them. We hardly got one game with the Miis, two if you count Nintendo Switch Sports. It's a freaking shame, the Miis allow so much creative freedom.
I worked a temp gig at an airport for six weeks back in 2014. I brought my 3ds with me everyday, and would have SO many StreetPass hits by the end of the day - it added so much to the Mii minigames
I was playing Miitopia while watching this video!
I loved the Mii Parade channel. I got over 100 great & creative Mii's from the contests, My family loved seeing all of the Mii's in our games.
I will literally sell a kidney to live on Wuhu Island as a Mii
SAME OMG, like an island which combines Wuhu, Tomodachi Life islands and Miitopia all in one, with abilities to try out Mii cuisine 🩵
This makes me sad for simpler times. I miss playing my wii with friends/family as a kid.
I hope that when they move on to the type of console (Wii U-Switch) they will make the Miis the big thing again they were!
00:23 I've never seen that in my life!! :O
It's great learning this history, thank you
I remember getting a 3ds for my birthday and starting up tomodachi life, making my mii was such a lovely memory. I would do anything to experience it again ❤
If they don't have Miis on Nintendo's next console, I will flip a whole table
Hopefully Nintendo will utilize Miis more for their next console.
17:44 this sequence is synced to the music
"Somehow, Miis returned" 24:53
Let's hope the absence of Spotpass, Streetpass, cool home menu music, less focus on Mii's is because they had to save as much costs as possible for the Switch since the Wii U failed.
I kinda have some trust in Nintendo cooking with the Switch 2, bringing all that stuff back.
Can we pay homage to deca sports. It was like a discount Wii sports but it was still fun as hell
To clarify about the Mii CPU Cheat in Switch Sports: the Mii Makers between the 3DS/Wii U are different from the one on Switch. Customizability options are slight different, and not everything aligns where it once did on the older Mii Maker, mostly being position and alignment based, like angling your eyes or raising your eyebrows. It looks like that for Switch Sports, they decided to do a bit more varied and newer feeling versions of the classic named miis, that would also fit right alongside the mii-ified sportsmates
18:04
Wii Sports Club was marketed atrociously.
I still remember how I played all the past Wii Sports titles with my grandma. One day I was on the Wii U menu and saw the channel. I was like "What is Wii Sports Club? It probably is some sort of community thing but let me just see." To my surprise, it was another full game in the Wii Sports series. We then played all the way through but we almost missed this game completely."
The Wii U was a horribly marketed with Wii U making parents think, "it is probably just another extension like Wii Plus. I mean the gamepad is the extension, right? The game was marketed poorly on a poorly-marketed console. It was doomed to fail even though, I thought, the new Training games were really fun (I don't remember them anymore honestly though except my grandma and I enjoyed them a lot).
The out-of-touch parents and grandparents were a large part of the original audience for games like Wii Sport and Wii Fit.
Nintendo just had the worst marketing at this time.
I had an old friend who worked on the newer Microsoft avatars and it was almost instant, upon release the whole team who made the assets and rigged the bodies were displaced into other parts of Microsoft. It was such a flop.
I honestly feel like there is a timeline for the Mii’s lol. The start being MiiTopia and possibly ends with Switch Sports possibly. Not sure but it is a fun thing to think about with the Mii’s
I'd like to think Miitopia is about purgatory. Every Mii has died and went into the afterlife.
miis were amazing, excellent aditions, something so basic with so much charm, your own avatar is part of the console and games, but if i have to be honest te novelty was over very quickly, yeah i had fun creating miis with my friends on the same tv but was only once, i visited mii channel and download funny miis i found but i stoped doing that very quickly, i only wanted to play, the extra options of the wii didnt matter to me at the end. thats whow life works, something is popular but has to end someday, i dont miss the miis, picking one on a game is still a good bonus, but not something i need
I think what I find utterly fascinating about Miis is that they are forever tied to the hip of the Wii. Mii, Wii, it's in the name, there's an association there that kind of makes them feel dated. Don't get me wrong, I love Miis and I love when Nintendo is able to find ways to integrate them into games, but there is undeniably a brand shift away from the Wii and Wii U that leaves people forgetting the existence of Miis. The Switch does not carry the Wii name or brand, for many normies, the Switch is a brand new thing, entirely divorced from the Wii brand, so it doesn't come naturally to people that Miis, something they associate with the Wii, would be something that would be important to the switch. Should Nintendo invent new avatars? Probably not, the Miis are so iconic on their own that scrapping it would be a waste of the work they put into developing them, yet on the other hand, it's difficult to separate Miis from the Wii.
I really do hope they'll add Miis back into more stuff, though I know that nintendo hasn't forgotten them, hell for the mario kart ride at universal they use Miis for the ride tutorial videos, also PLEASE GIVE US ANOTHER TOMODACHI PLEAAAAASSSEEE
3:51 omg this is such a little kid thought i immediately related to it. i remember having thoughts of a similar vibe as that --
i used to think that in the alaskan bull worm episode of spongebob when he and sandy are running away from it and the environment becomes 3d that if i turned on my spongebob plug-n-play controller at that time then i could control what was happening. was very disappointed that this wasn't the case.
... idk why i felt the need to share but thank u for sharing for real, that touched me on a deep level i wasn't expecting it to lol
It breaks my heart.
I hope there will be a new version with more detailed Miis in the future
I will admit that I have spent way too much time creating miis and appreciating the miis that others have made
im glad someone finally agrees that the xbox avatars for 360 while very much inspired by the miis have their own charm with clothing and the emotes and are MILES better than the fugly ones for xbox one ugh...
Switch was a step backwards for the Miis, especially Switch Sports.
If you want new Miis, fine; but don't bring new Miis on a console that still uses the old Miis.
Also, make Switch Sports actually worth the price.
16:37
Heheh, cutting the Rick Roll right out
Even funnier to me is that this was the only real thing I did with the capture card I had
An absolute core memory is when I was playing Wii party board game island with a friend and our friend who had passed away a few years back had her mii pop. In the zombie mini game. As a zombie. We were equal parts horrified, shocked and laughing our asses off. 😭😭😭
I loved miitomo and was highly upset when the servers shut down. I had so much fun on there.
Yeah me too
Honestly, I wish we could go back to miis and music.
13:44
Ohh! That's what that Smash 3DS Mii trailer was referencing, lol
Very neat.
Miiverse was certainly interesting. It was like a cross between Twitter and Pictochat. I miss the Mii Street Plaza....
The weirdest thing for me is that every single NPC in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom is a Mii.
No, really.
They're all Miis, and you can even inject your own Miis via hacking.
So they created an algorithm that could take the generic looking Miis and make them look more detailed. Imagine if they did this for other games, and had them pull from approved player-created Miis.
The fact that they could implement their own custom created characters and inject them into any game and have them change to fit that game's art style would have been so unique had Nintendo stuck with it.
But instead, it was kept to just two games. Two games where we can't even USE the feature.
It's the small things like that, thanks to the massive library of tech behind the scenes that manifest in special ways.
Nintendo, despite their faults, walked the walk when it came to systems like that.
I'd even wager Mario Artist Polygon Studio's Experimental World pretty much lives on as Tears of a Kingdom. If you don't know, Experimental World is a gamemode where you build vehicles + grab parts all around a massive playfield. It strangely has ques straight from Zelda and different surfaces have different properties when your machine interacts with it.
It was also speculated that Earthbound 64 would have Mario Artist Talent support, and those characters might appear within the game too.
It took us a really long time to get to that fall part of the video. Hey Nintendo, there still time to save them!
I remember making Mii’s of my entire family and friends lol
Take a shot every time he says Mii in this video.
the wii u and wii had that same feeling that the internet had when it was first introduced. a portal to another world where you can chat to anyone and look at whatever you wanted. like it just felt like magic when i was younger seeing real people's miis from around the world, and they all had something to say
Nintendo land is my childhood, the HOURS spent on it was so fun, i loved it
The moment i noticed New Super Luigi U community for the Miiverse segment, I felt a sudden fear. Those who know, know.
this video just made me mad that i didn't buy a wii u...
Honestly Nintendo struck gold with the Miis, I have never had so much fun just customizing and putting all of my creations in game. Why they decided to just withdrawal, I will never know, but I hope they do more with the premise.
I didn't know about the mii cheat code in Switch Sports. I'm excited to go check it out now
Holy Bowser's Castle, that "AKB48+Me" game looks like a gem, I need to check that out now oml
Brooo, this video was amazing!
Glad you liked it!!
9:46 accurate mii
Nintendo Land was so good man
My few created mii I had on the 3DS have become my OC avatars in Vrchat as well.
This whole StreetPass stuff really didn't work for me as I live in the countryside and if I went to the city, why would I take my Nintendo with me... xD i only once got a Streetpass Mii as I met up with someone who too had a 3DS... xD
best to bring back miis for nintendo.
You can import Miis from the Wii onto the 3DS
this channel is so underrated

I’m pretty sure in animal crossing new horizons your character is a mii. It’s got the same arms with the little round ends.
I worry a lot that Miis will be phased out within the next couple of console generations.
They are awesome.
I was looking for something and the dong at 16:28 lined up perfectly with me hitting my head on the table lol.
Weird, I never thought much of the Miis as any sort of icon or anything, they were just kind of there...
